Hi all
Just after a few opinions on which tablet to buy.
I am looking at the TF300T, TF201 and the Acer A510. Anyone got any opinions on which one is best value for money?
I was drawn to the prime originally but the GPS and wifi issues put me off. I then got drawn to the cheaper transformer pad but have been reading that the Acer A510 is a better performer and has better battery life (for the tablet to tablet comparison anyway).
Can't make my mind up!
I am also wandering if its worth waiting a couple of weeks to see what is announced at Google I/O, nexus tablet maybe?
I would definitely wait and see what the Nexus Tab's specs and price are, but even if they are nice they won't compare to either of the tablets you're considering. Also IMO the TF300 is better in almost every way once you add the dock, most likely the battery comparisons you've heard have been just the TF300 v.s the Acer A510 but that doesn't factor in the TF300's keyboard dock battery. With the battery it slaughters the A510, and you wont find a productivity option this good anywhere else. Also having the dock add not only a battery and physical keyboard but it adds a full-size SD card slot and a full-size USB 2.0. I may be a bit biased but as long as you are planning on buying the keyboard dock with the TF300 its a no-brainer.
I would recommend the TF300 if you need a tablet soon. If not and you can afford it you might want to wait for the TF700. At one point I considered the Acer A510 also until I heard about the heat issues. I currently have 2 TF300's, one perfect 32gb, and a 16gb currently at Asus being repaired. And for my smaller tablet I have a Galaxy Tab 7.7. As far as 10" tablets currently available the TF300 is the way to go IMO.
Thanks for the replies.
In the UK you cant get the TF300 without the dock, at least not from a shop anyway!! You can import one or use a shady online e-tailer.
My problem is that I am getting fed-up of waiting. I have been lusting over an android tablet for months.
I think I may well have to wait and see what the nexus tablet is. i'm probably not interested if it is only a 7" version. Really want a 10" tablet myself.
I have a nexus S for my phone and definitely prefer the stock android experience and the very active development scene that goes with the Nexus line of devices.
May still end up giving in and buying a TF300 though!
Thanks all.

believe me, the TF300's Stock OS is as close to stock android as I've seen on a tablet for awhile, and if you're worried about it becoming outdated, this thing has top of the line specs and will last you for a good long while.
problem for you and me is there is always a better tablet coming in six months.. I bought the TF300 and like it so far. I love having the dock because I use pocket cloud remote desktop alot.
Unfortunalty I know I want a windows tablet when they become available and will prolly buy one too.. If you can wait then prolly when the one comes out you want now there will be a release for a new one and you will tell yourself, should I wait for THAT one?
Get the TF300 its nice.. If i wasnt using a dock though i would do the ipad. I like the screen format better for tablet use..
Just got home from work to find a check from the tax man for £430 so guess I'm gonna spend it on the TF300T then! Thanks everyone for your opinions.

You can't go wrong with the tf300, I just got mine last week and I love it. My brother has the tf101 and the 300 blows it out of the water. My wife has the 7in galaxy tab 2 and it is a great tablet, some of the best speakers of any tablet I've seen, but I like the larger screen. Before I made the plunge to a larger tablet, I had a nook tablet that I heavily modified and put ics on it, a great affordable beginners device.
The 300 is such an awesome device, my only complaint is that I didn't get one sooner.

Well I just ordered the tf300 so can't wait for it to arrive.

Exact same, my beginners tab was a Nook Tablet which I put CM9 on. I just now have been transferring over to my TF300. Small world.

You might want to consider the Galaxy Note 10.1. The screen is complete crap by comparison and there's no keyboard dock, but it does have a faster processor... at least in theory. It also has 2gb of ram, although I dont think Android will really need that much any time soon.

For the slight speed bump from a Galaxy Note 10.1...probably not worth it. If they had released that tablet 3 months ago it probably would've competed better.
Add in the fact that any speed concerns will likely be solved with Jellybean, then having the keyboard becomes extra incentive to buy this device.

Nope, not yet. I'm thinking it won't be that long, though, maybe 3 to 6 weeks. Given that the TF700 has been officially released on the 15th of July -- pretty much concurrent with JB itself -- they'll probably need about a month from there. Given graduated OTAs and such (and the fact that in my heart, I'm aiming for a JB-based custom ROM), I'm thinking somewhere around half August for the big flash.

Early to mid-August seems like a good guess. Sadly, we can only speculate, but given that Asus has already updated this thing twice already (and fixed quite a lit of issues so far) and they are already familiar with the JB code....I'd say we're in for a great treat and in a quick manner.

Hi
As much as I like my tf300 I am tempted to sell it because;
1. Guaranteed quick android updates
2. Higher Res screen more so than ipad 3 and tf700
3. Limited use of dock besides charging, stand and USB data transfer
I bought the tf300 because even in the UK where its £400 with dock. It was great value but 4 months on there is a lot of new products coming out very soon.
Anyone else tempted to sell or are their good reasons to keep it...what do you think?

I think that I will buy this Nexus 10 aka "Manta" ( built by Samsung), but I'm still waiting to see all of their specs for taking my decision.
Ok it's confirmed:
Google reportedly set to announce 10-inch high-res Samsung Nexus tablet with Android 4.2
Yeah i agree about waiting for the confirmed specs aswell as price. Also waiting to see the new ipad mini.
Guess i'll know by the end of the week whether to stick or split so to speak.

You should check out all the problems the Nexus 7 is having with screen lifts. Meaning, the actual screen comes out of the encasing and people are having to glue it back in. Remember, you always get what you pay for. Except with the TF300, that was quite a deal. And since it only came out in April and since that time we've been given an unlocked bootloader and Jelly Bean.

The manufacturer is different this time is manufactured by Samsung, anyways it is always good to wait a couple of weeks on new devices see how they stack up in real use.

What do you plan on doing with your Asus? I might do the same but not really sure where i could sell this tablet for a decent price besides ebay since it's not very a very big product here in the UK.
On topic though, buying a nexus 10 would mean no tegra games (some are great IMHO) and the high screen resolution may be more taxing on the process i think. At least it wouldn't have I/O issues (probably) and would likely be quite fast. Time will tell i guess.

I was thinking about selling it on ebay also but I really dont want to let it go for less than 300gbp. Especially with all the fees ebay charge 10% + 10% paypal. So I am hoping to sell it on gumtree.
Tegra games are pretty awesome admittedly but the benefits of being nexus kinda outweight the little graphical advantages.
The i/o issue is dissapointing although it is better on some of the custom roms we really shouldnt have this problem.
Im assuming the processor will be pretty beefy hopefully to cope with the screen res but like you say time will tell. The deciding factor for me will probbly be price on the 'manta'. If it is around 400gbp for a 32GB version I will probably get it. Any more and it is unlikely.

The best solution would be to have both :victory:
I just bought this tablet and would sell it in a heat beat for a 10" Nexus tablet. It must be 32GB minimum I don't understand why all the Nexus branded devices are 16GB ONLY. I played with the N7 and really like it and i mean really like it and at the price point it was sweet. Three reasons why i went with the TF300 was because i got it for the same price as a Nexus 7, 10" screen and 32GB + Micro SD.
The reason why there isn't huge sale on the Nexus brand is do to storage limitations in my opinion, I would have bought the Galaxy Nexus rather then an hTC if it had 32GB or 16GB + Micro SD.
16GB non expandable memory is just unacceptable, they should do what apple does and charge a little more for more memory.
back on topic if the TF300 did not have I/O issues it would have been the perfect tablet, I can't believe Asus can get away with this BS and still sell in stores without fixing. Its understandable that the first gen TF300 had this issue but this should have been addressed a long time ago./
You were lucky to get the tf300 at nexus 7 price! I got 10% of retail price so paid £360.
Would love to be able to own the manta and tf300 but i cant justify two tablets when i also own a galaxy note!
Thanks for your opinions people i think im set on the new nexus 10 depending on price.

Bit underwhelmed with the nexus 10. How's the galaxy note 10.1? Better hardware than the nexus 10 and has some great features.

The best of TF300T is the dock: extra battery and keyboard !!
The gap between the new Nexus 10" and the old TF300T is great in hardware speed, but... really we really need it ?
I dont´t think so, if the TF300T have a nice CM10 rom with the lastest kernel...could be enough for me.
Not me.
My next tablet/notebook hybrid will likely be a Windows 8 machine. Whether RT or Pro I don't yet know. Whether the new ASUS tablet or one of the Samsung ones, I don't yet know either.
The TF300 showed me just how awesome this form factor could be. I love it. But the truth is I use it in fundametally different ways from the way I use my 7" HTC Flyer tablet. And the ways I use it it just makes more sense to buy a Windows device.
Now, my next phone will be an Android phone and my next 7" tablet likely a Nexus 7. So I won't be abanding Android at all. I'll just be using what I see as the right tool for the job.
Is there any windows tablet with keyboard for about £400? They all seem quite pricey. Also, the review i read for the surface wasn't very positive.

So its my brother's birthday and he wants a tablet. He's been using my infinity when and likes it a lot. He doesn't game, just surfs the net and craigslist, youtube, ect. I saw the Tf300 at gamestop for $299 for the 32 gb version. Is this a good deal for this particular tablet or should I just grab a nexus 7 for him and call it a day...Any issues with this tablet so far?

I bought my 32gb tf300t at Office Depot the day after Black Friday for $299 and in my opinion, it was an AWESOME buy. I was going to get the Nexus 7 but decided against it and glad I did. I have rooted mine, installed a custom ROM & kernel and my tablet is getting better benchmarks that my buddy who has an Nexus 7. OH, let's not forget about the extra 3 inches on the display and extra storage compared to the N7. That makes a HUGE difference too. I'm buying the dock/keyboard for my Asus this evening. As far as I know, the only keyboard available for the Nexus is bluetooth.
I have personally seen and used the Nexus 7. I am very happy with my 10", 32gb Asus tf300t and if I had to make the decision knowing what I know now, I would choose it again over the N7.:good:

So I purchased the TF300T from Best Buy and got them to price match GameStop. GS has a no opened returns on anything, BB has a return opened/unopened till 1/24. I'm sure my brother will like it, but if there are any defects or what not, I rather go to BB. I have the Infinity 700T and love it myself so it'll be nice to get him something comparable instead of the N7. Thanks for the response BTW.

Hey guys I have been searching for a tablet for a while.
Basically I already have a 13" ultrabook, but I want something that is smaller and easier to use in bed and on the couch. I also want to use it for SmartGlass on my Xbox One.
So I know that the Tegra 3 is a generation old, but I only want to spend $200, and I want a 10" screen.
Is the TF700 my best option?
What do you think?
Thanks for looking

It's OK for $200 as long as you are prepared to unlock and flash a custom ROM. You won't find a better 10" tab for that price unless the existing Goole nexus 10 can be got?

Asus support is of no help in most cases. With or without warranty
Their customer service reps have a really short script for each and any problem:
Step 1: factory reset
Step 2: send it in at your own cost and we'll tell afterwards how much you owe us
suggest to avoid..
having spent a truck load of cash, and a high speed microsd to do data2sd, i am still an extremely frustrated user of this extremely overrated tablet.
external good looks are extremely spoiled when you start using the tab.
I would say you may get better performance in an old dual core tab, than this one.
In fact my sony tab p is faster than this abomination..just my opinion..
Test and test again before you want to buy this one.(if possible install a few apps and try them out)..
