Can someone help please? I installed CWM Recovery thru ROM Manager. Rebooted in recovery to back up my ROM and now I can't get out of recovery. Every time I select Reboot System it reboots me into recovery.
Try here (if you can use NVFlash)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519635&highlight=boot+into+cwm
Like many others, When I saw the thread over in the Dev section about the 5.5.0.4 recovery, I jumped right in and fired up Rom Manager before reading any further in the thread.
Unlike many others, I don't get the same results. My TF101 reboots to the OS with no problem. However trying to reboot to recovery from recovery doesn't work. I have to hold the vol. down button just like a cold boot into recovery.
The only difference might be, that I had stock recovery prior to installing 5.5.0.4, due to having to recover from another soft brick condition after trying to install the CM9 Nightly that is now available over on the official Clockworkmod site. That one had failed miserably for my device.
Good luck with solving your problems with the new recovery. Wish I could explain exactly why mine seemed to work as advertised when most others didn't. But I don't know.
I do have the problem with the Removable MicroSD not being visible. Only the built in "Fake" SD Card.
Update:
I now have the reboot into recovery problem. I used the wipe data option from the VOL DWN/PWR button start up, and now have that annoying boots into recovery problem like everyone else. I hope that and the SD card problem gets fixed in the next version.
Thanks, got everything back to normal with NVFlash method I found by watching this :http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VMHXeYMgPy4
Lesson learned!! :/
Curious where the thread in the Dev section went to, I cant find it this morning...
Unfortunately, some of us cannot use NVFLash to fix this problem.
So, is it too much to ask that the Dev who wrote Rom Manager and CWM actually look in to this for us?
I too installed the newer CWM through Rom Manager and need to cold boot to get in to the OS otherwise it recovery boot loops.

Thread was closed. I was on it this morning and wanted to post a reply saying NV Flash work for me and I couldn't because it said the thread was closed.
I read the whole thing and apart from NV Flashing the was no other solution
How do you know you can't NVFlash?
yea , this morning the thread in the Dev section went to general , and now closed.
Perhaps we should follow this until everything is clarified.
the nvflash only work for b60 and some b70 tablets , most of b70 and b80 cant be flashed with this tool
I'm working on something to fix this, but I still need a little more testing.

any clue where to attack the problem?
Some people reported the new recovery worked when flashed over stock recovery.
any help you can supply on this would be greatly appreciated. it's very uncomfortable not being able to count on your recovery.

too late for us
I was up until 1am following the thread and posting my process, specs.
I am even more curious as to how the thread which was still pretty calm turned in to something that deserved being deleted.
In any event, I think we all understand that what we do is at our own risk. But CWM and Rom Manager have been the gold standard of reliability for quite some time. Once something is a trusted means by which to do something its even more disappointing to see that it no longer works.
the first post was moved because it was not exactly a development post
then, in the general section, I do not know why it closed, there is no explanation
so if microsd is not recognized, i can install rom from internal, right?

I think CWM is not working well with 4.2.1. I would try TWRP as custom recovery, but be very (as in VERY) sure to install the TWRP version meant for your bootloader. In General section you can find a very good how-to written by pjc21, which also list which bootloader and TWRP versions match. The guide is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195883
Use that and don't forget to thank pjc21.
I have rooted my n8013, but every time I try to install a rom it "freezes". I purchased ROM Manager, but whenever I check the download roms there is on a small section with nightlies...I thought for $6 I would get a list of all available roms...was I wrong?
I did download Android Revolution 9.0 and CM 10.2, I added them to my tablet, I disconnected the tablet from the PC. I then booted to recovery with ROM Manager. I managed to get Android Revolution to the point of installing google apps, but it froze, I couldn't click anything or do anything. I tried to redownload and reinstall it on the tablet but it just freezes at random points in the installation.
I have tried to install CM 10.2...twice and both times it just sits at CyanogenMod loop (Blue circle with 2 spinning "wheels" going in opposite directions). I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but this is the hardest time I have ever had rooting & installing a rom. I am no pro and I don't understand all of the lingo, could someone please either help me, or point me to a step by step guide?
Thanks!

I followed this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIYiXzcW7xs
I then followed this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102677 for the recovery.
Now I have actually managed to get CM 10.2 to work, but I cannot figure out the Gapps. I downloaded them to my pc and tried to put them on the tablet but there is no program that can open them (or so the tablet says). I could go poking around, but I don't want to break anything so I figured I would just wait for a response.
I was actually debating on doing a complete wipe and starting back at square 1. Then following this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZKGWN-TQE0 But that just seems like to much work, I have a feeling I am very close to being done and I and want to start all over.
I wanted to get Revolution to work but it wants to fight with me so whatever.

Did you read the special notes in the Revolution HD rom site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547 In the you need section it says that you need the Custom recovery by "High On Android" Then there is a section on the same page that tells you how to flash. You need to follow the directions exactly.
Don't know if you know this but the directions on the 1st video put the CWM recovery on the tablet and then when you did the 2nd video you over wrote that CWM recovery that Revolution HD is compatible with and the one you installed is not recommended by Revolution HD.
I had Revolution HD on when I was rooted and I liked it....... If it were me...... I would return to factory rom........ then follow the exact directions in the first video........
Then follow the directions on the Revolution HD site link I sent you.
Curious......... why are you rooting? What do you want that factory rom does not have?

The reason I want to root is because..well..I want to learn. I cannot learn just by reading, I have to do hands on..I have to actually try it before I can learn it. I am so fascinated by tablets and android that I could sit here tinker and poking around for hours. Another reason I want to root is because I have read that rooting can improve battery life, and that samsungs touch wiz is "buggy". I have noticed that at times things don't seem to work as they should be (buggy, glitchy, choppy).
I was unaware that I flashed over cwm. How do I return it to factory rom and start all over?
Thanks for the help btw, I really appreciate it.

I followed his guide on how to unroot. I made it to step 9 before it said that it had failed. Once I tried to reboot the tablet it said
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issues. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I downloaded Kies but it wouldn't connect to the tablet.
I did find this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311507
I am stopping before I break it even further. Any advice?

Big big problem with that is you are far more likely to end up with a brick .
As the posts shows you are not hands on as you have failed to read the instructions and have to resort to asking users to tell you what those instructions you failed to read are .
Rooting cannot improve battery life .

What firmware number did you download and what country do you reside.
Are you using an official Samsung data charging cable and did you purchase the tablet new?
Are you using a usb extension cable?
Can you get into recovery or download mode?
When you plug the tablet into your computer is it recognized?

First, from my research that was just a Soft Brick..so not a big big problem.
Second hands on means you learn as you go..I am learning as I go, trial and error. Some people learn better by reading, some people learn better by doing. I am the one who learns better by doing. I have rooted a few other tablets with zero issues. I managed to figure out what was wrong BY MY SELF....trial and error. So your statement about me having to resort to asking users to tell me what those instructions are, I followed the instructions on how to unroot...they are what caused me to soft brick.
According to Mike1986 at this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119547
In the ROM Details, it says Excellent Battery Life.
According to http://www.droidviews.com/install-android-revolution-hd-rom-on-omega-rom-on-galaxy-note-10-1-gt-n8000n8010n8013/
As for the battery life, it is far better that what you get with stock ROM on your Note 10.1.

I managed to figure out what the problem was. The firmware link that is posted by Max is for the galaxy note 2. I am not sure if thats just old or what. I went to samfirmware and I downloaded one and I reset the tablet to factory setting.

There is a bad link in the printed directions but you should always go directly to samfirmware for the latest firmware updates.
I hope you know that you nearly bricked your device, it is a must to read and follow directions that are posted exactly.
I hope you know that CM 10.2 will take away S-Pen function.
Max has ROM reviews on his site for most of the popular ones.
As your just starting I would stick with videos that show you how to install roms for your specific device. And if you choose to root again after you do so the next step would be to do a full backup in CWM recovery to a microsd card so if you run into problems you can always restore back to that point.
Good luck

I was actually looking at some of those roms, and I checked through Max's videos, he did reviews of them but doesn't show how to install them. This is where I got confused. I would love to find a tutorial that goes step by step through it. I also did have CM 10.2 on the tablet, I was still able to use the pen. Which is all I really want, I bought the note 10.1 for the specs (2gb of ram). As for the pen, I pretty much just use it for drawing and for selecting small fonts and links.
The 2nd video I posted seems very easy, I just don't know if I need to follow Max's root first, or if I can just follow the 2nd video from start to finish. I am thinking that I need to root again, and then follow the 2nd video.
Do you have a rom that you recommend? and a video tutorial that I should follow?

You are on your own....... I'm not making any recommendations. I have rooted and unrooted many times but I keep going back to stock and that is were I'm staying. lately I have seen a bunch of post like yours with rooting problem and bricking or soft bricking.
If you still want to install a custom ROM your better off going to each roms page under Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Development and read up on them.

So, I'm trying to fix a phone for a friend of mine. I previously put CM10 on it (not sure which version at this point), and he recently started getting stuck in a bootloop. I tried wiping /data & /cache, didn't help. Tried re-installing the rom, didn't help. Tried installing the latest versions (both stable and nightly), didn't help. Tried installing arrgh's kernel, didn't help. Now I'm trying to get it back to stock, just to see if that'll work. I can get into fastboot just fine, and both cwm and skrilax's recovery work, but the only guide I found that has working DL links is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33391825&postcount=9, and while I can get TWRP installed and boot into it, I'm unable to select anything. I don't know if the program is acting up or if there's an issue with the touchscreen, but it's really frustrating. I've got the .win files ready to go, but not being able to navigate TWRP is holding me back. Is there any other way to install these files, or is there a way to get TWRP to work? I'm using the latest version (2.6.3.0). Would installing an earlier version work? Is there any known way to fix the bootloop issue? Is there a rom more stable than the official CM10? I realize that's a lot of questions, but as I'm at the end of my rope here, I figured I might as well get it all out there, and hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

CM10 was never really "stable" on the Q. 10.1 is pretty solid, and 10.2 runs fairly well as well.
If you want to go back to stock, why not just use RSD lite?

Huh. Must be late, totally didn't see that you had posted a link. I think I wound up on that page at one point, but the latest version of RSD Lite I could find from a site that didn't look sketchy was 5.7. When I search for 6.1.5, I get a lot of random download links (don't usually trust those, and a lot of non-English sites.
Yeah, may need to stop for the night and pick it back up tomorrow. Completely missed that there's a link to 6.0 on that thread. Will try that. Now, when you say to use RSD and then using fastboot to flash the stock stuff back, what do you mean? I thought RSD would take me back to stock.

Yeah, RSD got me back to stock. The phone is borked anyway; the power button is iffy at best, and the touchscreen has stopped working, so he's gonna haveta try to get a replacement. Thanks for all the help.
Good day,
I have a tf101 with stock rom (4.0.3)... I recently purchased a Nexus 9, so I figured it was time to start playing with my tf101. Would someone have a link that shows a step by step *How to* to update from stock 4.0.3 to stable KatKiss 4.4.4. I've never done any of this so I need some guidance, if a Youtube video exist that show what to do from start to end I would appreciate the link, otherwise a detailed how to with all related pages would be great.
Thank you in advance for your help,

Use EasyFlasher to install custom recovery and root your tablet. Follow the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
Make sure to install the correct drivers before you begin. Choose TWRP. The version bundled with EasyFlasher is probably outdated, so flash the one from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434422
You're good to go after that. Download latest Kitkat or Lollipop Katkiss by timduru, or try OmniROM by sidneyk. Here are the links:

Install APX drivers from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942
Then download EasyFlasher to your PC and run it. Prompts will guide you on how to put your device into APX mode. Make sure you have TF101, because this method won't work on TF101g or SL101.

I have one more question just to be on the safe side
When I have installed this easyFlasher and put my device (definitely TF101, thanks for pointing out!!!) int APX mode I can root from where? Let's assume I am in this TWRP and want to continue with KATKISS Lollipop, do I need to root first? or ROM (meaning the KATKISS lollipop?) and then SuperSU
is SuperSU from Timduru going to be enough to root in the order shown by him?
Thank you in advance for any help!!
Yes, I am VERY green but I am trying my best to do everything properly and enjoy the speed and functionality

After flashing the recovery, boot into it (power+vol.down until a screen shows to choose vol.up for recovery.)
If everything went right, you should be greeted by twrp.
Now go to the KatKiss - Lollipop thread, download the ROM and Gapps. Get the latest supersu.
Read installation instructions carefully.
Short version:
Put all three .zip on sdcard. Boot twrp.
Wipe dalvik, cache and system . FORMAT data (important if upgrading to lollipop. A wipe won't do).
install katkiss then gapps and last install supersu. Now reboot.
The supersu.zip is always the last to flash, because it installs the su binary and the helper-app into the presently installed ROM.

This is indeed correct in most cases, but Tim explicitly states that supersu should be flashed before Gapps on Katkiss Lollipop:

Also just to make sure: you tried a full wipe and install in the specific order listed in the 1st post ?

EasyFlasher will both let you put your device into APX mode and flash recovery/acquire root, but you don't really need root for flashing recovery or ROMs.

Yeah, I trust timduru, he is an excellent developer. Although I think he is trying to make a point here, so he can give reliable support. In the KitKat thread there where a lot of stupid "doesn't work" posts, just because people forgot to install gapps. From a technical point of view it doesn't matter which comes first, as long as it is done. Quiet frankly, if the gapps would change something that superu did, that would be really strange.
Thank you all!! So, today is THE Day when I shall try... and how do you add LIKE in tapatalk? i can't see this option. I sooooo wanted to like all your helpful hints and instructions!!!

I started with easy flasher but it only flashes TWRP2.2 something, so a very early version ;( and TIMDURU advises to use much higher version like 2.8 something for his Lollipop
How do I put this one on my Asus?
Thank you in advance!!!
I decided to give it a try, put the 2.8 sth version in the internal memory, went to TWRP, pressed install, found this 2.8 sth and slid for flashing... now I am going to check the version... if it worked (fingers crossed) I shall continue with the rest
the task went smoothly, I started working on KatKiss,
I am sooooo shocked how powerful this thing is now!!! THANK YOU ALL!!!
but I can't find developer options to turn on debugging mode ;( and I think I need it because my computer cannot see the device ;(

as for now the device is charging because I remember that there was very low energy level in tablet and above 90 % in keyboard.
After analysing few posts I came to conclusion that my device is bricked. How that happened I have no idea but I decided to un-brick it with easy-flasher and it worked so I repeated steps from previous posts but with version 17 and now I can see KatKiss sweet doggie
and
Android is updating
let's connect with WIFI and life should be good again
