[Q] T959W Opens To CWM Based Recovery Mode Everytime - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I'm a noob but I'd been trying my best understanding to ROOT T959W, I'd followed the steps as described in one of the forums here using odin 1.7 and stock+Voodoo-T959VKJ1.tar and the update in sdcard but unfortunately I don't understand, no matter what i do, when the phone turns on it shows the Recovery mode, I'm however able to boot into the downlod mode and my phone is detectable.
The phone was I guess bricked onetime but i'd used oneclick unbrick and it went back fine.
Please help me to at least get it to a running state not necessarily root.
I don't know if this is right, what should i do next ? Flash the rom CM9 ? or have i messed up ? :S
THANKS A TON!
Attached is a preview.

It seems a little odd. Did you clear everything and not flash a rom?

So you have the "W" phone from Wind and you flashed the bootloader? I can clearly see the Tmobile logo, which shouldn't be on a Wind phone. Just hold on, don't flash anything else and give a few, I'm working with bhundven at this very moment to try and dump my bootloader. Your phone still turns on, there is hope but the more you start clicking all over, etc the more damage you can do, so please wait.

Sure, I will be waiting, Yes it shows the Tmobile logo and when I connect it to Odinv1.85 it tells me this phone is T959V but infact its a wind mobile.
I'll be waiting for you guys and will be more than willing to donate.
cheers!

The T959V in odin is just a label in the ini file in the same directory.
You can change that to say anything you want.
I really recommend taking the time now to remove odin, and it's drivers, and install heimdall.
Look around in the wiki for help on that one.

Me and Brian are working on it. He had to go out for a bit, so waiting for him to get back on IRC and I'm testing it and risking bricking my phone for the good of the 959W users, so please be patient until we have a test package that can restore the bootloaders, param's, everything full for a "W" model. I found a very complicated work around to get out of the loop but I rather wait till we have the 1 click tested and it's easier to use and do.
For now, the standard 1 click should get you back to stock, just don't flash the bootloader at all.

Glad I was able to help but I couldn't have done any of this with the guidance of bhundven and others from Team Acid. Hopefully I'll have the true stock modem our phone came with soon, full stock recovery, etc and be able to put out a full package to help people who are bricked or want to go back to stock.

You also need to flash the pit file. If you follow the instructions in this thread, it will tell you exactly what to do. You don't use Odin to install CWM, btw.
Phidelt82 is correct.
Start with that thread. That will get you back to stock.
Then this thread. How to Mod My MEZ. That will get you started from Stock to get Rooted and install CWM and then its your choice of ROM and Theme if you choose.

Just cool down. Your phone is booting. It works. I don't work for USCC so I'm not exactly sure how it works but I don't know if you would have to activate it again. I suggest you take the phone to the store and tell them it stopped working. They will probably get it all fixed up for you there. Since it's stock right now you shouldn't have any problems (=
PS: In the future, don't dial 911 to 'test' whether you phone works or not.. 0_o

Woah, what do you mean you don't use Odin to install CWM? The newb guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931169
says "
1.Shut phone off, pull battery out and leave it out.
2.Run odin (assuming you have it installed)
3.Load the cwm-recovery-all.tar file into the PDA spot"
And i've read like 15 other how tos that all say the same thing. That sounds like you install CWM with odin.

[ODIN] Stock Rooted ED1 (downgrade from ED2) [2011.05.18]

Well here is something that I hope is the start of some hardcore hacking.
This is an ODIN that I created of stock-rooted ED1 for the DROID Charge. In the course of making this, I bricked my charge (first attempt failed in ODIN) and then created a working ODIN that un-bricked it. I then upgraded to ED2 (I confirmed that I lost root as well) so I could test if this will downgrade back to ED1 and it worked and I have root again!
Instructions for ODIN (for those who are unfamiliar with it):
1. Open ODIN.
2. Put the phone into download mode. Do this by powering off your phone, pulling out the battery, and then holding volume down while connecting it to your pc. A giant yellow triangle should be on the phone's screen and it should say 'Downloading...' ODIN should say 'Added!!' and one of the boxes will be yellow and say '0:[COM#]'
3. Click the button labeled 'PDA' and locate the file you are wanting to flash. For emphasis: YOU MUST USE THE PDA BUTTON!
4. Click start. Do not disconnect the phone while it is flashing, it can cause some serious damage.
5. Wait.
6. When finished, unplug the phone, put the battery back in and power up the phone.
Every time I've flashed this, the phone booted straight into recovery. Just select reboot (press home) and it boots up normally. It should probably be recommended to wipe data and cache afterwards, but I didn't and all of my data stayed in tact.
Multiple people have reported that this works. Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone if this doesn't work.
Thanks to imnuts for the HOW-TO thread on creating ODIN builds.
Download here.
Download ODIN here.
to my redbull habit if you feel the need.
I feel dumb for asking, but what are you using to flash this to the phone? I've never used anything other than simple one click root programs, so if you could give a little more detail I'd be happy to try it out.
Download Odin here: http://goo.gl/52aY1
Download Drivers here: http://goo.gl/Tbcca
Download stockrootedED1-20110517.tar.md5 http://goo.gl/kD3Ld
1. Open Odin3 v1.30
2. Remove battery,Hold Vol down. Connect USB to computer and phone then press power. It should take you to a yellow android.
3. Click PDA Button
4. choose stockrootedED1-20110517.tar.md5
5. Click on the Start button
6. Don't Touch and allow the phone to reboot
7. If its taking a while to start DONT PANIC, its perfectly normal
Thanks for the guide, but it doesn't do anything for me, seems like Odin doesn't even know my phone is there. When I plug it in I get the Verizon media manager link to pop up though.
I edited my first post with a link to ODIN and instructions. I guess I'm a little slow with the typing because you beat me to it medjam, but you left out the step of putting the phone into download mode.
Works for me, though the first time I rebooted I didn't have any network reception. Another reboot fixed that.
Wish I could get rid of the "system update available" pop up, but at least I'm rooted again. Thanks!
that's awesome...I gonna try this right now....If i brick my phone I will just swap it out a vzw..They are tarded and can't tell the difference any ways. Will report back once I finish.

Once rooted go into your build.prop file and every thing that says ED1 change it to ED2...that should quit the nagging to update. Then restart your phone
Credit goes to Jt3 for that info as he posted it in the Charge forum at android central.

AWESOME!!! So glad to help!
Very nice!
I know that this will kick start the development of this device now that everybody can haz root.
so just to be clear here, this will bring you back from ED2 down to ED1. Does this method require you to have already rooted while you were on ED1 and then upgraded to ED2 and lost it or will this work for everyone?
Thanks in advance

[Q] soft brick / can't get into download mode / can't flash with odin

Hey Guys.
So i am having this problem for about 2 weeks now. You won't believe how many threads i read, to find a solution to my problem.
So it seems like i soft bricked my sgs4g. It is in a mode, where i can't do anything.
There is a phone on the left, a warning triangle in the middle, and a computer on the right side. Under that it says "firmware upgrade fail! Try using recovery mode".
So, i really don't know much about flashing, rooting, cwm etc.. So i got some help by a friend of mine to install some rom i can't quite remember the name. It had a lag-fix in it, cwm, root and also a overclocked processor. It worked perfectly except that it didnt' recognize my Sim. So i tried to flash it to a coupel other roms, but everywhere the same problem. Eventually, odin had an error, and now i am in this freaking mode where i can't get out of. Volume up + volume down and plugging in usb cord won't work. since my phone doesnt work, i can't really install adb, to fix the download mode, and even a usb jig won't bring me to the download mode. I really have no idea how i can get out of here. I would really appreciate any kind of help, and i hope that i can get this thing fixed.
If you need any further information about my phone, just ask.
Thanks for everybody who can or wants to help!!

First off, you are in an alternate download mode. Just flash Odin as normal with a stock ROM and all will be good again.
Second off, what ROM did you flash that has an overclocked processor? We don't have a kernel that supports overclocking yet, at least for gb.
As for the SIM card, I've had that problem before. It's from not wiping /data /system /cache before flashing. Once you Odin back to stock, it should work. If not, you will have to contact your service provider to get a new one.

You may have a bad download. You might try redownloading the file.
java is installed, i might have fixed that problem though. i think my download wasn't quite finished, because when i updated java, it wanted me to close firefox..
so, because my phone is not in the actual download mode, it won't find any drivers to install.. can't i just install them manually?

Here is my recommendation...
First used the attached .zip (assuming you are on a 64 bit machine) and uninstall all samsung and android drivers.
Then start over with Heimdall One Click. It will tell you whether you have the drivers you need or not, and if you do not, it will put up directions, send you to zadig and tell you what you need to do.
And you are in download mode.
Heimdall uses different drivers then ODIN.
Go here then and download 32 bit USBDeView.
I recommend restarting your machine after uninstalling drivers.

By the way... I recommended downloading the bootloader one click in case whatever you previously flashed was not for our device and changed your bootloaders.
"java -jar T959V-UVKJ6-One-Click.jar" --> is not the bootloader download.
SMS-KJ6-beta2d_Stock-Rom_with_Bootloaders-One-Click.jar = bootloader download.
hmm.. so it tells me to select Samsung USB Composite device, but it's not there.. :/
i am downloading the one "Download SMS KJ6 (beta2d) Kernel Stock Rom with Bootloaders" right now.
And after i am done im gonna restart my computer.

[Q] Need help rooting Galaxy S 4G SGH-T959W from Wind

I have been trying to root the Samsung Galaxy S 4G from Canada's Wind Mobile. I wonder if anyone out there with Wind and this phone has any success. This phone is model SGH-T959W, which is different from the T-mobile SGH-T959V. I thought they were similar, but not really. This phone was just released in March 2012, and has the latest firmware.
Details:
Model no.: SGH-T959W
Firmwware ver.: 2.3.6
Baseband ver.: T959WUQLB6
Kernel ver.: 2.6.35.7-T959WUQLB6-CL965783
Build no.: GINGERBREAD.WUQLB6
I have successfully rooted several phones before and am good at following instructions. However, I have pretty much tried every method suggested on this Galaxy S forum with no success, including SuperOneClick, manually using ADB, Fastroot, Z4root, Samsung Kies Mini, Heimdall One-Click, etc. Some of them simply said "Failed", ADB and SuperOneClick seemed promising with progress messages for a couple minutes and then just hung forever. Kies Mini won't even recognize the phone even though it's a Samsung and I have updated all drivers.
My main goals of rooting the phone are to try to resolve the random shut-down issues that's been plaguing the Galaxy line of phones, and to run Titanium Backup. Eventually, I'd like to upgrade to ICS. I'd welcome any help.
thanks,
Billy
Unfortunately your phone is not supported on XDA. Do not use any flashing tools from this forum. You have a high risk chance of messing up your phone. Good luck.

Can someone push the kies gingerbread tarball to mediafire or bittorrent or something.
I'd like to collect a little more info.
I will also need someone with the phone to test for me. You need to be familiar with and running linux.
I don't play well with windows and may need to remote to your linux box and get on the phone.
Hi bhundven,
Thanks for offering to help. I'm the OP of this thread. I'd like to help you help me, but I don't have a linux box nor familiar with linux. Also, what is "kies gingerbread tarball"?
I do have the phone that I can do the test for you, if you can show me what I have to do.
thanks,
Billy

Thank you, thank you, thank you, bhundven!!!
Is there a Thank You button that I can click on to show my appreciation?
I have followed your link and read your other post on the 959W. A couple questions:
1, is the USB JIG a must? What does it do exactly?
2, I was not able to root the phone at all, by any of the methods found for the 959V on this forum. So, how do I upgrade to any other ROM's without rooting? Will the use of this JIG solve this issue?

The jig will force your phone into download mode no matter what, unless you are hard bricked. Its not necessarily a must but highly recommended.
I was in irc with bhundven and the other user and as long as you do not flash bootloaders using heimdall to flash something like the antonx one click kernel will get you root. Then you can flash any of the roms. Just remember dont EVER flash bootloaders until he can get a tarball and make a Heimdall one click for the 959W.
A good way to get root using heimdall is follow this post.

Like I said tho dont flash bootloaders PERIOD.

Werd. The only way the JIG will not work, is if you have hosed your bootloaders (specifically the SBL).
It would be awesome if someone got their T959W unbrickable modded, so we could play with bootloaders.
More so, it would be awesome if someone could get me a kies or leak tarball for me to mess with.

Big fat warning!
No one has sent me a kies or leaked tarball for the T959W.
Following the directions below is much like the red pill in the matrix. Once you take it, you cannot go back to what you had.
If you really want to go back, please bug the crap out of samsung and wind for a kies mini installer.
When you get this, please PM me! ASAP!!

Some of the kernels do not install root to the rom. So you will also need to install a rom that comes with su (root).
Most of our current roms do, including cm7 and cm9.
Installing cm7 or cm9 should be the same as the instructions in the thread, but I'll reiterate this once.
Get the boot.img (see the cm7 or cm9 threads)
heimdall flash --kernel boot.img
Let the phone reboot. When you see the "Galaxy S" screen, pull the usb cable and pull the battery out of the phone.
Put the battery back in the phone. Put the backdoor back on the phone (so the battery doesn't fall out).
Hold the vol+ and the vol-, then hold the power button until you see the "Team Acid" screen. Then let go of only the power button.
When you see the clockwork mod recovery, let go of the volume buttons.
Plugin the usb cable and go to "Mounts & Storage" and enable usb storage. Copy the cm7 or cm9 zip file to your sdcard.
Don't forget to safely unmount the storage on your windows, mac, linux box before disconnecting the cable or unmounting usb storage on the phone.
Unmount usb storage on the phone.
Go back to the main menu.
Factory Reset & Wipe data
Install the cm7 or cm9 zip from the sdcard.
Report any issues on the cm7 or cm9 thread, ask any questions on the respective Q&A thread here in the Q&A forum.
I'm a noob!
Hi there, I have been looking for a way tu root my cellphone. I'm from Mexico but I lived in canada for a while.
so i bring my cellphone samsung T959W from canada!.
So I have been reading your posts from july when you said that you was comparing the differences between v and w version and i arrived to this post!
so I did this!:
1.- I download the sdk of android to put my cellphone in download mode
2.- I used heimdall press flash and wait until the samsung screen pull the cable and battery.
3.- press volume buttons and power button then I realize that now my cellphone when i turn on it says exclusive for t movile
and after i pressed volume buttons and power the acid screen didn't appear to me also when I'm in recovery mode there is no such option as install just the update option and when i try to put the cm9 it says that it couldn't confirm the signature
also if you need the tallbar or the thing you said... just let me know what to do! I'm noob in this kind of things!
sorry for bad grammar.. still learning

What you need to do is download this Heimdall one click that is just the kernel.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tea...-Basic_with_a_twist-v1.1.0-OC_UV.jar/download
Run it just like you did the other one and then you will have a custom recovery. After that you will be able to flash the roms you want.

Tallbar? tarball? You need to have the stock tarball for the phone. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you don't have it.
This guide for installing the Galaxy S 4G CM7 or CM9 is not meant for newbies. This is definitely an advanced thing.

I'd welcome any help.
thanks,
Billy

download framaroot install it in phone choose first option install superuser when done choose second option reboot phone and bingo its rooted
I had never heard of "framaroot" before and I always like to know where software is coming from before I run it.
It looks like there is an XDA thread for it: [ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click apk to root some devices, which may have more recent versions, as well as ones that have come directly from the developer.

What do you mean you can't boot up? You need to be on download mode, or are you telling me that you can't get into download mode?
If you can't get into download mode then you're out of luck.

OK you said in your OP that you can get into DL mode. Follow the second post of that guide for getting Heimdall One-Click up and running. Then flash heimdall per the directions of the guide. You'll want to flash WITH bootloaders. Just relax and read through it. It will fix your problems.
Before you do anything, uninstall Kies Mini and use usbdeview to uninstall android and samsung drivers. Then proceed with Lumins guide. If you DO NOT UNINSTALL DRIVERS I can assure you there is no way to get out of hard brick unless you have a jig.
Tip: Uninstall drivers that has the name Samsung or Android.

Actually not true. If you use a different USB port then the one the Kies drivers are linked to Heimdall Drivers will install just fine. I've got Odin, Heimdall, and ADB running for two different phones on my laptop. And this guy is soft bricked not hard bricked.

In his op it says it is bootlooping on the vibrant screen. Quite possibly he actually has a vibrant .

That's what I'm thinking. Or when he flashed with Odin he flashed vibrant firmware to it? Have you ever seen that error before?
Cant say that I have. It could be I havent ever flashed a rom not for this phone.
AdamOutler says one clicks have a safety that keeps you from flashing the wrong software. That might be what is happening. Maybe the op needs to use heimdall-frontend to flash a tar.gz. /shrug.
nemeancestus are you comfortable using regular heimdall? You can flash the files used in the one click with heimdall-frontend. I will link the tar.gz, download it. In heimdall-frontend the first tab will give you the ability to load a package. Browse to the folder you downloaded it in. It will decompress the tar.gz once that is done in the package files pane it will list the files. Once it does that select load it will take you to the flash tab and load the files for you. Now put your phone in download mode and it should show as connected in heimdall. Dont change any of the options set. Just hit flash. After that it should reboot and you will be on stock plus blastoff kernel. You will need to flash a different rom tho wifi does not work and it doesnt have busy box or su preinstalled. Just reboot to recovery and flash a new rom.
The link might not be active yet give it some time I just put it on drop box.
