Can anyone comment on the battery life on the Official AT&T 4.0.4? Battery life is one of the most important necessity of mine. Right now I am on SKY ICS 4.2E with the nexus extended battery and I can go with a full charge from morning 8:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m with moderate usage. The ICS leaks were horrible, so that to back to stock GB. Tried Sky ICS 4.2F but 4.2E was smoother so went back and sticking to Sky ICS 4.2E.
If this official release is too bad on the battery life like the leaks, I am gonna skip and stay on Sky ICS 4.2E for a while.

If you're worried about battery life I would stick with SkyICS. You can wait a while till sean works on the ROM a little bit more but hes been working hard to get the tweaks with the latest ICS.

Check that frequently for more updates. :good:
two days on att ics, fully stock non-rooted... yada yada. day 1 was great got 11 hours with moderate to heavy use (mostly internet, set up, download apps). day 2 sucked, only got about 7 hours of use .... slight to moderate use (some internet, fb, 10 mins of map with gps).
i'm hoping day 2 was a fluke.

I'm impressed with it. I got a solid 12 hours of usage out of it. Playing tunes, texting frequently, downloading apps and what not... Keep in mind, I'm not on an LTE and as such I have it disabled. I've heard it can wreak havoc on battery life.
Can't give an accurate estimate for today, as it was plugged in and floating around 30-50%... But it seems better than GB to me.
What about your screen on time?
Yeah... battery life has been bad for me since I switched from skyics Rodgers edition to att official skyics release. Tried reflashing the rom a couple times but the problem remains. Just gotta wait around now for a solution.

The battery life of the official ICS was definitely better than 2.3, that being said I have moved on to SkyICS, and it's simply fantastic, even with the stock kernel
For me, it's excellent on wifi. On 4G, it's decent. I can go about 10 hours with moderate use and system power saving settings on.

My wife and I have the same phone her's is white(stock) mine is black (rooted and using stock rom bloatware is frozen ). I am getting better hours of use with some Words with friends a few calls and a few txt message. I can go day and half before I charge. Wife has to charge nightly and she uses her phone less then I do. I am rooting her phone tonight after work. Both have upgraded to ICS.
My wife has my old Skyrocket now that I have the GSIII..She came from a Cappy to the iPhone to the Skyrocket and she swears by the battery life on her phone and she LIVES on her damn phone...(I do too, I'll admit). She claims it's even better with the firmware upgrade, stock & unrooted..
Stock rooted rogers, with heavy use, I've got a dismal 4-5 hours! But that's scree on & browsing... Good thing I'm close to a charger.......

12 hours! battery @ 78% didn't use the phone much since 5 am. Made a couple of phone calls, surfed play store... not much
i didnt like the battery life on the official build so i am using skyics 4.2f6 now with better battery life! Seanzscreams is the best developer for the skyrocket love his work.
for those of you who were like me and had horrible battery life on any of the ICS roms including Sky, i have found a solution i have tested this on 2 roms so far the first being my Daily Driver CM9 Nightlies, and stock ics. i found that for some reason when my phones screen turned off my phone would not go into sleep mode, the fix for me was to run SetCPU app, which i did pay for, and create 1 profile, for screen off, and just change the the cpu max and min speeds to max 540 and min, 192, i found that will keep your notifications coming without any lag, and when you wake the screen it will not be laggy as well. I'm Currently at 13 hours and my battery is at 79% and i played with the market, and surfed the web some, obviously texted a few time as well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5taHVhbmcub3ZlcmNsb2NraW5nIl0.
it is worse than 2.3.6. now after just over one hour heavy use, down to 63%

Pure bone stock phone here (for now), battery life has been pretty good IMO (compared to my Captivate). The other day I was down to ~72% after >15hrs of light use.
As always, YMMV. My theory is that it depends on the apps you have installed, and what version they are. I would get updates to some apps and my battery life would suddenly be different after the update (sometimes better, sometimes worse.)
My gfs on stock has dropped by about 50%. Lte in sf.

Hey I'm a noobie here but I wanted to ask if I upgraded to a 4.0/4.1 rom would I run into any performance issues? (lack of processing power/lack of ram, etc)
Also, should I expect a decrease in battery life or an increase?
Thanks!

I experienced lower battery life and performance issues.
From apps taking longer to launch to general lagginess of the rom. Other users have complaints about that in the various dev threads.
I started a thread in general about my downgrade to cm7. I have to say it makes the cappy feel new after using various laggy ics/jb roms.
But as with all things your mileage may vary. Not everyone complains about the upgrades.

Thanks, that was definitely something I was worried about. I actually recently started to use the Captivate because my old iPhone 3GS just ran terribly choppy (along with a much decreased battery life) with the newer iOS that was forced onto it so I don't want that kind of situation to reoccur.
I'm personally running the Slim Bean 2.1 rom which is Android 4.1. Other than the small bugs listed on their site, my phone is running butter smooth with no issues. As a moderate user to heavy user, my battery lasts pretty much the whole day and some. You just gotta follow the dev instructions and do your research.
I am currently running slim Bean, but I also ran slim ics. Which I felt that my phone has never run better on either of these two roms... Battery life was about the same for me between gb, ics, and jb.

One of the great features of ICS/JB is the battery settings option. From here, you can see what is draining your battery. When I flashed CM10 a few weeks ago, I noticed one of the widgets I used on CM9 was draining the battery big time (30-40%). So I disabled that widget and now I get battery life that is equal if not better then stock GB.
I've also ordred some 1800mAH batteries from Amazon which will definitely get me through a work day.
I'm currently Paranoid Android JB, and the battery life difference from 4.0 is negligible, but from 2.3, it's quite a change. As far as lag, it would be pretty bad if I was unable to OC it. Currently comfy at 1200MHz with the ondemand governor, and battery life is still better than GB.
I was stock GB for ages and had decent battery life. Then switched to CM 7.2 and had a horrible battery life. Switched to CM 9.1 and it isn't any better. So I ordered a 1800 battery, hopefully it will improve things.

Just as a mini update for anyone viewing this thread, i've tried both CM9 and Jelly Bean Lanight rom. Both have been pretty fast, haven't really seen any lag issues and battery is relatively the same.
ICS update to sgh-i897 captivate
I updated my ATT captivate SGHi897 to ICS recently from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22555425
I am bit novice here on ROM .version build etc. but its running 4.0.3 Build - IML74K eng.
I notice my captivate is now bit laggy in opening up cameraand some apps but not that significant.
Actually It has solved many issues when i was running gingerbread earlier with too many forceclose issues , choppy signal , calls dropping etc.
Also I noticed my network signal is much better and shows " H " instead of 3g earlier. I did not know captivate is compatible for H and not just 3g.
I did notice te browsing is much much faster than gingerbread. ginger bread was horrible than the previous OS.
I was bale to browse in the same places where I was not even getting any signal to make voice calls , the Signal reception is great with ICS now . Not sure how a OS can affect the signal reception.
over all i am happy with ICS on my captivate.
My battery is so awful, I already bought an 1800mAh battery but it didn't really seem to help

The ICS browser has been reworked and made better. It is faster and a lot more stable than the GB browser. Signal quality could be due to the fact that the i9000 with ics has newer and better modems. Btw im looking at your link and i noticed that you flashed a rom from the i9000 forums. I would suggest that you flash a rom from i897 forums. Even though both phones have similar spec they are very different and that could be the cause of your lag.

If you are particular with the wifi calling features and battery life, you can stick on GB as it's good at that point but if you want fancy looking and customization
go grab some ICS flavor specially AOKP as it features a lot.. just make sure to read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470716 before flashing ICS it will help you a lot and save you from headache.. now take some time to read and good luck..

Technically there isn't really a "proper" way to upgrade to ICS on our phone, as Samsung stopped releasing official firmware upgrades after Gingerbread.
If you used lumin's post to flash your phone, you should already have CWM, so all you have to do to upgrade to ICS is flash CyanogenMod 9 or AOKP through recovery (or your ICS ROM of choice, I know a lot of them require you to already be on CM9 or AOKP before flashing though).
Keep in mind though that once you're on ICS, you have to one-click back to stock to go back to Gingerbread. Also, as mentioned above, battery life isn't the best on ICS and you won't have access to wi-fi calling. But with ICS you do get the latest and greatest (for our phone) and a lot more customization.
Do not feed the troll!

Battery Life is the main reason gb is better you may miss some other features like 4G but you'll gain many others in return like dramatically improved performance.
I say wait till bhundven and his team finish the Aries kernel before you switch so you have a solid upgrade you won't regret. You'll love ics at first but unless you don't use your phone that much you'll miss roms like Valhalla black for their great battery. This is why there's been a recent mass - GB migration from ICS.

Thanks for this. Any idea when the kernel will be done?
First off, the "ICS has crappy battery life" is hardly an etched-in-stone thing. Many of us, who have taken the time to understand what is consuming battery, have more-than-acceptable battery life on ICS. Keep in mind though that each subsequent Android release has more "features" which will, in general, mean more CPU/GPU power required to use them, as well as Google bringing along more and more data requirements in their apps and services.
Second, Aries isn't going to "magically" solve anything, especially when it first comes out. While it may be better than the current kernel in some respects, it is likely to be worse in others, at least until we can find the issues and resolve them. It is important to remember that for many people the biggest changes that can be made to improve battery life is what applications you are running and how, not a kernel or a ROM.
As far as when, when its done. You can follow the CM9 dev thread for updates, but you won't find any promises as to when it is ready to be a "daily driver." While I flash Aries pretty regularly, I also have Heimdall at the ready, as well as several other ROMs and kernels available for when I need something that I can trust to use as a phone.
I wouldn't hold off on trying the ROMs that are available for the SGS4G at this point in time, GB and ICS both, and decide for yourself. Try them for several days each. While some ROMs I have tried I just haven't liked the UI and know I won't like them from that, knowing how a ROM performs as far as stability and battery life go, you can't really tell until you've had it running for a week or so after the novelty of the new ROM wears off and you start just using it as you usually do.
My biggest battery drain turned out to be obsessively searching for a battery drain solution on the xda app.
My battery is lasting for days now, even overnight, and, in bad reception areas.
My phone and WIFI service are spotty, in and out, all day in my office.
Biggest improvements:
fresh SD card.
refresh battery stats
flush cache
flush dalvik
fix permissions
let wifi sleep during sleep.
kill DSP and Google apps running
Once the phone runs for a day and a half rebuilding itself, battery had less drain, and boots very fast.
c'est la vie
Regarding battery life....if you want to be able to install whatever apps and not run batterystats and be selective about what your phone is doing and get great battery life then run GB. I have flashed and run every ROM since the Robbit / Team Whiskey days and for the average user ICS roms will not give the battery life a GB ROM will when running the same apps and services. I've had two SGS4's for 2 years and it's been the same for both of them. For the record the best legitimate battery life I ever got (meaning I'm running phone without tweaking certain apps and services to turn off etc...) was Dsex's original ICBINB with his original UV settings from that thread. I constantly had 3+ days of battery life on both phones...it would lose less than 1% in 10 hours of standby.
I love the ICS ROM's and understand that people are passionate about them considering all of the work that Team Acid and the likes have put into them....I am too. I work at a computer all day and my phone sits on charge so battery life isn't really an issue for me....as stated in other threads the only thing keeping me on GB is the busted voodoo sound on ICS.
On ICS ROM's I'm getting 10 to 11 hours (which I do consider acceptable ), tops, without messing with the phone to extend battery life. Flash back to any GB ROM and I'm getting 18 to 20 with the same apps and usage. I'm not dissing ICS, just being honest.

It doesn't work. Seems like it's working up until you make or receive a phone call then the analogue volume quits working. Also sound continues to be heard through handset speaker when headphones are plugged in.
When I first went back to GB my wifes SGS4G was still on CM9 I did a direct comparison of the audio on both phones and it was obvious that voodoo sound wasn't doing what it should on ICS even after a reboot when the analogue slider is working. There is noticeable distortion at higher levels, the noise floor is audibly higher and the phone just plain won't go as loud. If you have 2 phones to A/B compare the difference is very clear.

I used to get about 24hours on my international version S4 running ICS while running a 3G connection, and a good amount of screen usage.
Ever since the JB update(i updated within 2 days of its release), battery life dropped to 9 hours max, and it has been incredibly difficult to live it.
I switched to TrickDroid 9.1 hoping for better battery life. I then turned off Google Now permanently but i am still not getting more than 9 hours of battery life.
Has my battery been spoilt completely? Has its life reduced because ive been running jelllybean for so long now ? Is there anything i can do to fix this ? Or has this got something to do with Sense 4+ ?

I got this phone (S3) with Jb already installed in it, so dont know the difference in battery timings with ICS or JB. But one thing is sure the battery life of this phone (seems with Jb, coz i read the same thing on some other forums as well) is quite poor. I also get less time on battery. Though i have auto sync on for some accounts like gmail, but still battery time shd not be that poor. Hopefully it will be resolved in some next updates. :S
Also i m facing sound issue (posted in other thread in this forum with Jb). Dont know whether this sound issue is only with few handsets or with all One S (having Jb).

What might be a solution for you both is installing a custom kernel
I'm running dark jelly cm10.1 rom in combination with bubba kernel v2.7, and with the right settings I get awesome battery life.
I can really reccomend switching to aosp rom like dark jelly in combo with this kernel.
Or check out xda forums for sense kernels to combine with trickdroid rom, like here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851841

Sons of Android was my first DD when I switched to custom ROMs. I ran it for a whole week and it was really stable and got a 33% battery life increase over stock ROM with similar usage.
Stock ROMs can also crash so you could try any stable custom ROM out here.
Got to agree with xcrazyd on this one. If battery life is the problem the logical solution would be to get an extended battery. Check out the accessories section, you can get one for 7 bucks.
oh dang, 7 bucks for the extended battery? I think I'll get on that. I currently get about 12 hours out of my skyrocket with light use on CM10.1. No matter what the battery life on this phone isn't going to be awesome. Especially when you look at what's using the battery (it's the screen).

If that's the kind of battery life you're getting you need this, not an extended battery.
thanks for replies everyone. right now i have her on the cm10.1 rc5. She seems to like it and hasnt had any issues so far. If something comes up I will try the sons of android rom. She just wants battery life like she use to have on ICS. No extended battery need but thanks for the suggestion. I actually have a 5200 i sometimes use on my i717. Appreciate all you time.

Weird that you would get bad battery life on samsung jelly bean, i had the Rogers jelly bean and it had great battery life. Same with CM10/CM10.1 and MIUI.
