Okay. First off, some background data. about a week ago my phone quit working and wouldn't let me send or recieve calls or anything. After exploring a little bit I found I had no IMEI or baseband. Both said unknown. I tried the imei fix in the cm10 thread, and it didn't work. So, I looked in my EFS folder and there were only 4 things in there. An imei folder, root folder, .nwksimpin, and nv.log i didn't have an nv_data.bin or anything. I've been searching all over and I was wondering if there is anyway to crate a new one or something. maybe get someone else's and change the lines in it to have my iemi number or the generic samsung. I really need a phone and don't know what to do. Also, for some reason when i tried to revert back to stock it deleted my entire internal sd card. so any efs backups i used to have were lost. If anyone could help, I would be eternally thankful.

Hello. Recently I flashed my SG3 to froyo, and backed up all data with various software. Or so I thought. When I wanted to recover my contacts and messages I only found empty folders, which most likely means that I didn't copy the files out from the SDCard
Well, then I installed a basic windows lost file recovery software (EASEUS data recovery) since I formatted the sdcard, and I was able to find a file called EclairSMS.sbf. Now I haven't found any application that could open it, and all googling results into Motorola's flashing-related stuff or people with same problems but no answers.
So my question is, how can I open SBF file and probably restore my SMS?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is in the wrong area.
..Anyone? If this isn't the right forum for this, which would be?
Eclair.Sbf is over 500mb
I got a samsung galaxy s I9000,I have ICS333as my rom, but i forgot to backup my IMEI. And so now I have a IMEI of 0049....
I have no backups or any .bak files.
Is it possible to restore this?
I have phone signal and can make calls and access play store etc. everything functioning properly. But I'm irritated by the fact i have a corrupt efs. So thxs for any help.
I'm on aokp build 39 and was using devil kernel. After two days off use my Imei was borked. It's happened twice each time two days. Is there a way to restore Imei on my phone? Without being at a computer? I have the efs file backed up but am unsure what to do with it. I searched Google but couldn't find anything concrete.

This may sound crazy but I have just taken the backup /efs folder and put it on the SD card and used root explorer to copy and overwrite the /efs in the root directory of the phone, rebooted, and everything was fine.
Not sure if its the right way to do it but it worked for me. This was a while back though when I first was experimenting with flashing roms, miui would always screw up the /efs so I would flash back to froyo and overwrite the /efs by using root explorer.
May be worth a try, good luck with it.
I can confirm this works. I used this method on icssgs a few months ago.
Phoned in.....
Wow. Sounds great. Thanks guys. If my Imei gets borked again I'll try that

Lost my imei again today. Just deleted efs folder reboot. Copied my imei folder over reboot and all was well. Next time I'll try just copying my imei folder.

I was on CM11 and One day i lost the IMEI number of my phone and lost all network. I think i flashed an update, dont remember clearly. I think the EFS folder was corrupted. I gave the phone to samsung service center and they were not able to fix it. Can any one help me? I dont have any backup.
ANyone? I tried flashing the stock value pack, didnt work
Cm11 suppose to do a efs backup in SD card. Look for it, if found replace efs folder with it and reboot. May work. Good luck.

Oh man!!! I flashed stock over it and there was no sd card, only internal sd! Any other method? Flashing regional stock or something?
Hello peopleI am new to the S7 devs, since I've been browsing in the XDA S7 forum I've noticed a lot of people that lost their IMEI or corrupted it during installing custom ROMS.
It feels so bad even to imagine it, I was wondering if there is someone who can explain what makes a ROM corrupt IMEI or the EFS partition, and why some ROMS does the damage to people and not for others?
And whether having an EFS backup can save you in all cases or there are some cases where you really have no hope even with a full phone backup (all partition included)?
I am a big fan of custom ROMS but unfortunately, I can't afford to lose that phone at the moment.
So I was hoping that someone will shine some knowledge by answering what I asked and also provide some advice to do in the future to avoid as much as possible to end up with a Bricked phone or a useless one without IMEI.
Thank you very much in advance and don't be lazy on typing some lines that might help some people even if it's not me at the moment

What is EFS?
The EFS refers to a folder called EFS which can store information like meid, imei, serial number, config, diag settings and radio settings, etc in an encrypted format at the file system level stores. So it is very neccessary for us to backup EFS before flashing ROMs.
How will you lose the EFS folder?
How will you lose the EFS folder?
As far as I known, you always lose your EFS by mistaken operations. For example, flash ROMs or wipe data using an uncorrect method. Even wrong power on & off ways like taking out the battery to force shutdown as starting could corrupt your EFS, too. Rooting and flashing ROMs usually have no influence on EFS data, but you know everything can happen in the real word. There are some ways you can check whether your EFS folder is lost: inputting *#06# on dialler, going to settings/about phone/status or checking mac address.
What results if you lose the EFS folder?
The loss of the EFS folder may bring about an incredible disaster on your device such as no imei information, base band unknown, no radios and so on which mean your device will no longer be recognized by your carrier. After knowing that, won't you back up the folder?
How to back up the EFS folder?
Bofore backing up the EFS folder you need make sure your Andriod device is rooted. Then, install Custom Recovery on your device. Open the Custom Recovery, select the Backup option, and go on select the paritions containing EFS, then "Swipe to Back Up" to begin the backup process.
There are as well two Apps from wanan to backup your EFS one is EFS Backup and the other Partitions Backup
Always remember before playing with your phone, to read a lot, and always do BACKUPS
