I was trying to change the clock font by copying new fonts and renaming the current fonts. I thought I did everything ok. But upon reboot my Xoom is not stuck on the honeycombing boot animation.
I have tried several reboots and keep getting stuck at the boot animation.PS I have a rooted 3.2 wifi only stock US ROM on a Canadian Xoom.
How can I get things back to the way it was before my bonehead move? I renamed all the stock font files with a -back so they are there. I just need access to get the files in the oder they were.
Help please!
If you can get it into android recovery mode then you can flash a rom file, such as the stock rooted 3.2 and that should fix it no problem. And if you have troubles with that the idk what to tell ya man.

Can you not reflash the rom?
I was hoping not to have to reflash, but in the end that is exactly what I did. I reflashed a stock 3.2.1 image. Curiously, only a few of my apps auto installed. I had to manually go to the market and rechoose every other one.

Just make sure that you only do a batch restore of missing apps and data--not system apps and data. That will screw you up.
Well i am new to android custom ROM i was using my official gingerbread 2.3.6, I rooted my samsung galaxy ace and installed Clock work mod Recovery v5.0.2.6
I took the complete back up of my android os using it with reference to some youtube tutorials. Everything went fine and it showed backup sucessfully created like in the video. I even could install a custom ROM and run it on my phone.
When i started to restore from my backup ... during the time when it is restoring system , after a while it shows the error "Error while restoring /system!"
can anyone help me out to get my official copy of gingerbread back....??
Any HELP is appreciated....!!!!
Thank you in advance...
You can only use CWM to restore the system image for the Rom you're currently on. You need to flash back to GB and then use your nandroid to restore your setup.
Did you installed ICS firmware? Because gingerbeard can't run on ICS firmware
Hey thanks for the help.....
i got the problem fixed by installing gingerbread os first and then recovered from clockwork mod recovery......
Now i have all my files and same os that i have backed up!!!

I am having the same error. On Lollipop custom rom, trying to restore Kitkat CWM backup. Then, i get error while restoring /system. So, I flash the same custom kitkat rom, where my backup is based on. Reboot and went through initial rom setup and confirmed it's running Kitkat and same firmware as the CWM backup I was trying to restore. Reboot in Philz CWM and proceed to restoring that back up and i am having the exact same error (error while restoring /system!). I checked on the CWM log, it says "tar: invalid tar magic". Does anyone have any idea?
I have a problem with the backup - fails to restore, a backup file looks like this: see attach file
i can't restore this backup,it's tell me "system error".... so i trying open "data.ext4.tar.a" on PC, like you see i try UNYAFFS utility, also fail..
-- note, all "normal" files are empty,i already try change extension to file with data, always the same --- ERROR
any idea?

Sorry to hear that...
I guess if you cannot open these files to extract the files you have a big problem. No other backups available like in googlemail?
Unfortunately no

Give me details. What phone and os. Also, why are you restoring from your PC? Can you get your phone into cwm or similar recovery? What started this problem or what was the last thing you did successfully.

Hey, phone was SGS2, i 'm trying restore from PC because i got super brick - my phone is dead, i need replace motherboard.
First i was install stock rom 4.0.4 with Odin, everything worked fine, so i make backup with cwm and install JB 4.1 - non official, also everything worked fine, after this i remembered that i have forgot some files in stock rom,so i make new backup to JB rom and reinstall stock rom from backup that i make before -- until this stage everything fine. Now i wanted return to JB rom and i try flush backup through cwm and i got error - something like "system image error", so i flush it from begining -just clean rom..
After this i remember that i again forgot some files in stock rom, so again, flush stock from backup trough cwm, after i try back to JB rom trough cwm - like in first time,no success, so i try also like in first time - clean install.. in middle of progress phone just shutdown and dead...
Thank for helping
P.S
After first time that i cannot reinstall JB rom trough cwm i thought that backup doesn't performed correctly, so i make new one.. all those file from second backup, the rom was JB 4.1 with Siya kernel
Yeah umm. I think you lost power during your flash at an early state. Could be wrong but how could you flash a Ron and realize you didn't have some files? Was it your own build?

1) Rom manager is not compatible with Atrix 2. I would not use it. Why do you need it anyway??
You can use Atrix Bootstrapper to go into CWM recovery . Rest can be done there. Or you can use Boot Menu Manager.
2)Of course! it will still be there! the backup is saved on your SD Card. So as long as you don't format your SD Card. It will be there.

Rom Manager does work with Atrix2. If you're on Stock ICS, you can install CWM on every boot, then flash the Bionic recovery through Rom Manager. That will allow you to use the 1 touch backup in RM, just hit backup rom and everything does what it's supposed to.
Here is the CWM on every boot for Stock ICS.

2)will the CWM recovery exist after flashing new rom or i need to install it again??
when i restore to stock fom JB, it means downgrading the firmware right??
so will there be a chance of bricking or is it same to restore anytime from any version??

No, your Recovery will be wiped after you flash a new rom, but you can install it again and restore your ROM.
But when restoring a rom, make sure you ARE ON THE ROM you are restoring.
E.g. If you flash JB and want Stock ICS back with your backup. First flash the Stock ICS from RSD and then restore your backup from CWM on it.
Or Vice-Versa.
@41rw4lk, Thanks for rectifying that. I did not bother with Rom Manager much.

I don't think any recovery exist after flashing a new rom. We have a locked bootloader, so we can't replace the stock recovery.img, all of our recoveries hijack the boot process to work. CM10 and PA I believe have a built in recovery, and that's about as close as you'll get to having a recovery exist after flashing a rom.
As far as restoring from JB, I believe you can downgrade to ICS, but you'll have to look at the JB thread to be certain. I'm on AT&T so I haven't had an opportunity to try JB (officially). CM10 is based on JB, but for our phone with the locked bootloader, it's more of a pseudo experience and is based on our ICS framework.
As for bricking, there is always a chance to brick, that's part of the mod game, but if you read and pay attention to what you have and what you're doing, you'll be alright.

YES. there is a big problem if you are not on a ROM you are restoring.

Yes. I will say though, if you're on an AT&T branded phone with AT&T firmware, do NOT try to flash the new JB FXZ. It doesn't matter who your carrier is, it matters what firmware your phone is using. So, if you're on AT&T then you need to make sure that the things you flash are for AT&T, or else you will brick and that will be then end of that.

MIUI (had battery issues, but I think they got it all worked out)
there's a few, you'll just have to look. Most of the time, if something is not meant for AT&T, the devs will post in the description that it isn't compatible. If you want stock ICS back at anytime, you can do yourself a favor and make a backup of your stock ICS all setup the way you like it, so you can restore if needed. If all else fails, there is an Official ICS FXZ that will get you back to stock ICS.

You're killing me smalls. You're on ICS already, you're not downgrading anything, nor can you downgrade ie. Gingerbread. There is no Official JB for AT&T, so that's not an issue. CM10 is a JB based rom built on an ICS frame, (for our phone at least), and again, you're not downgrading.
To make a back up, boot in to CWM or whatever recovery you're using (not stock), and click backup. You might hit up the noob thread to get an idea of the terminology and basics for our device. Not trying to be rude, but you're running yourself in circles. You got to walk before you can run.
Hi,
I have a question.
I already flash 4.1.1 via OTA and use some bloody init.d script for R/W system, that doesnt work and gives me reboot after I enter into supersu app.
My question is... how can i flash 4.1.1 again (i wanna clean system, just for better feeling.) If Im using TWRP recovery? Because, ota file doesnt contain stock recovery as RUU does and I didnt find any ruu for 4.1.1 CID_032 | villec2.
Or, can I flash OTA update as update.zip in TWRP recovery?
sorry, for my bad english.
Step 1: relock the bootloader (check out some xda forums). This is a pretty easy process.
Step 2: find your desired stock jb online.
Step 3: connect your phone to the pc (make sure you have the htc drivers installed).
Step 4: run the RUU or stock file as an exe. An installation guide will follow, just follow it through.
It should work after this!
If you have questions or run into problems, let me know!

Thanks, but I think there's misunderstanding. I know how to use adb - relock, etc.
My point is, that I have android 4.1.1 (updated via OTA) and I wanna re-flash this with same android - 4.1.1 (due to I've installed a script that doesnt work - Easy_InitD_1.1.zip... and makes me couple of reboots. And I would prefer to have a clean rom, without any "possible future" problems.
Damn, I think Im getting worse, isn't this true? =D
edit: bloody RUU for JB would solve my problem, but it doesnt exist, yet.

Haha no problems friend!
I've found a link to a custom ROM using JB 4.1.1, you can look into that?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871866
Also you can instead remove TWRP (if you know how) and instead install CWM (clockworkmod).
I found CWM to work better than TWRP.
I myself am using CyanogenMod 10.1, very nice and clean, works perfectly ad has Android 4.2.1
That might also be an option if you want a clean ROM. ^^
I think you're missing something here.
The fact is that there is no original JB RUU that can be pushed to phones already after JB OTA, which updated their phone to custom ROM and want's to go back to stock now.
Running an ICS RUU will do no good since it will fail based on lower Hboot version.
My recommendation, therefore, is to use as close to stock JB ROM like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076855.
I will choose to go back to TrickDroid 9.1 if I had to.
Another option if no RUU is available is to get a nandroid done on the JB OTA just after flashing and rooting. And restore it.

I had the same problem and no stock jb nandroid to go back to. Luckily I kept ics nandroid in my laptop, restore that and run OTA jb update again.
There is another option. Get Zenrom ICS, check for updates, download jb, install and then do factory reset. Then root it ( superuser, busybox, modified boot.img), make system back up and keep it in pc. Then you have it safe and you can go back to it if you need full stock jb.
I hope this will help.

Yes, you should be. Download zenrom, reboot recovery, wipe everything a few times, flash zenrom, set it up, then recovery, flash STOCK RECOVERY ( very important), prompt for update, download, install, set up, ( you may get a few errors here and there so just do factory reset in setting-->factory reset). Then flash twrp, flash superuser, backup.
