Battery discharging. - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think my battery is discharging really fast. I have power saving mode on and brightness at about 30%.
Wifi is always on"unless im sleeping" ram is at about 600+ all the time. Can anyone help me figure out
how to slow down the discharging, and are there any recommended apps for solving this issue?

Go to settings> battery and check battery use specs.
If you're getting more than 7 hours of screen time in a charge, you prob have nothing to worry about.
If you're getting less, check what else is eating it up

At heavy use with max brightness and screen always on batt should be worth 9-10 hrs of working time.
Some apps (esp. Weather apps with warning function as well as some widgets) actually suck away the battery like hell .
Get "better battery stats"and run it for a day and You will know which app/widget is the sucker.
On my old Note I had a "sucking " event after a ROM update: 30% in 30 minutes. With the experts here I solved this in minutes.:

What do you mean by "really fast"?
Like a time in hours?

I think it would go down in 4 to 5 hours if im using it non stop with power saving on and 50% brightness.

That is normal I think nothing to be worry about

Yeah, most tablets would last just about 5-6hrs with heavy use.
That said, I can probably get like 7-8hrs of good usage.
Watching videos, esp HD and on-screen widgets are usually the main culprits.

Any suggestions about my battery life

I know that there are lots of these battery life threads and i have read most of them and I've tried closing processes that i don't need and i have tried setcpu to keep the cpu low when the device is off, which seemed to help some but my phone would shutoff randomly. So last night i had a full battery and went to bed when i woke up 8 hrs later i was at 20% so about 10% an hr not even using the device. I have attached some pics for reference does anyone have any thoughts that might help. Thanks
I don't know about galaxy S but on my X10 the problem was wifi.
When I didn't have a data plan I had wifi on all day and the battery was down in 10h max 12h.
To improve it I had to use JuiceDefender to enable wifi every five minutes for updates..
Try to disable wifi overnight, reboot the phone and see what happens.
By the way, what app you used for those stats?

I don't have wifi enabled, I don't use it that often. the name of the prog is system panel
Very weird indeed. I have my Captivate with Wifi on all day, GPS signal and auto sync and when I go to bed and wake up, the battery hasnt gone down at all. I had the phone go on full battery one day and I even sent a few texts and went online for 10 minutes before it lost just a bit of battery.
Do you have that one LED app installed? The one that shows a little red dot on the corner of your screen when you have a notification?

Ok so i tested again last night and I did not have my im+ app running and the battery life was soooo much better. I also did not have system panel running which records all the battery and cpu stats but i'm think its the im+ app that was taking up all the juice. Can anyone think of another app that does skype and facebook but that also does not take up sooo much batter life??? Thanks

Open up the dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#*
Go to BATTERY HISTORY>PARTIAL WAKE USAGE and maybe that will show you which app is sucking up your battery life while you sleep.
Also try, if you don't absolutely need an internet connection while you sleep, SMODA widget to turn off your mobile internet. It's quick, free, and painless.

I drained mine down to 5% and charged full a few times and still only got 8 - 10 hours on mine until i flashed to jh2 and now have been getting almost 16 hours with same usage and apps installed. I charge mine at night. I use ebuddy with the piwer saver option turbed on abd it does an ok job.

I have the stock ROM and stock launcher and my battery is awsome! 8 hours and I will still be above 80%.
Brightness: Lowest (manually control via stock stock gesture)
GPS: OFF
Wifi: ON all day
BT: OFF
GMail manual
Other emails accounts hourly for the most part.
Widgets: Google/Fancy Weather
BG: Mostly Black
I have never seen such good battery life on a smart phone.
I could easily get 2 days, but i rather charge every night and then not worry about battery usage.
The wifi/gmail/gps made a big difference, its too bad you can't set gmail to hourly or something lik e that. Some of my email accounts i would like to set longer than hourly.
The last few days have been pretty good one my phone. Used to get maybe 16 hours but my last charge lasted me about 50 hours with moderate browsing, gaming, and voice/text. Juiceplotter is telling me I'll be getting about 47 hours

My battery icon depletes one notch when I'm using the screen for about an hour. Some people recommend cycling the battery, in which you do a full drain and immediate full charge, 3 or 4 times. I've done it, but it's hard to say if it explains my good battery life.
let the battery drain COMPLETELY until the phone turns off a couple times, then charge it till 100% without unplugging it.

You don't want to drain the battery that much, those kind of batteries can be damaged. The phone turns off for a reason.
I haven't done the cycle thing and its fine. A lot of that comes from older batteries with the memory problem.
irus, software which is based on data connection drains the battery one way or another. Some apps now support push notifications and IM+ does too. Did you try to use push?
These claims of multiple day charges with moderate use is crazy to me. I have the newest ROM, a black screen, display all the way down, gps off, wifi on when in range, make zero voice calls, run juice, and only have 2 widgets that update every 4 hours. I use my phone for a maximum of 3 hours browsing the web, reading XDA and feedR, checking facebook and the occasional text message. My phone lasts a total of 12 to 14 hours. My battery has a manufacture date of late July. Is there some secret I am not aware of?

Terrible battery life, please help!

Hello I am new to this forum, I just got the Samsung galaxy s 4g this Wednesday and I was wondering if anyone else was having battery issues. Right now I have my phone set to minimum brightness, auto sync off, black bckground and juice defender on. So I don't understand why am I getting only about 3 hours of battery life when all I'm doing most of the time is surfing the web(this forum) and facebook. I even get better battery life from my dads vibrant which is completely stock, has auto sync on, no juice defender, and screen brightness set to 50%. From reading the stats of both phones, the vibrant 4g is supposed to have a slightly better battery. I also don't understand why if the screen is at the minimum it still takes up 94% of the battery whereas on my dads vibrant 50% screen brightness takes up 30%. Is there anything I can do? Will wiping the battery stats help? If so how do I do that from a stock unrooted vibrant?

Check your notifications settings. I know that Samsung's contacts integration with social networks takes a big toll on the battery, hence why I've disabled it. Also, disable T-Mobile's Contact Backup Sync, just use Google's contacts integration.
Thanks for helping, but yeah I have those disabled already.

Does the trick to fully discharge and recharge 3 times work with these batteries? According the the Li-on technology this is not supposed to be necessary but I've heard stories in the forums of folks getting great battery life on other phones after doing this. Many people also say their batteries work a lot better after a week of use (supposedly after "training" them as well.)
I believe the G2 is clocked down for this reason. You could try CPU-set app, clocking down to 500-800mhz when not gaming.
Anyone tried these tricks?

Im having the same issue with battery life.. for me its a deal breaker.. I use my phone pretty heavily for keeping up with email and a little web browsing as well as talking quite a bit.. My iPhone 3Gs lasted me all day of heavy use and with the SGS4G I have to charge the damn thing at least once a day with light usage and if I have to be on the phone a lot then its twice a day.. Not acceptable at all...
Thats with wifi and gps disabled..
On the 3Gs I had wifi, bluetooth and the gps running all the damn time...
Took my phone off charge at 6:30 this morning haven't put it on charge yet at 88% never had this much juice with the nexus one.

I'm not having any issues with battery life or heating. I use wifi teather most of the day and I'm getting to use it all day without issue. I did cycle my battery 4 times already just in case it matters. FYI
The batteries that our phone uses DOES NOT require u to cycle the battery. In fact, doing so will harm your battery. To avoid damage to your battery always charge ur phone when u r at <15% battery level. Trust me I thought the same until I did the research. I will post more info when I get on my PC later.

I just bought a Galaxy S 4G on wednesday. First android device coming from iphone 3G. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to preserve the battery life.
I took it off the charger at 6:30am and the battery was at about 2% at 8:30pm.
I haven't rooted the phone yet to remove some of the bloatware that comes pre-installed.
I've got email accounts synching, brightness set at about 10% w/ a static wallpaper. Played about an hour of angrybirds throughout the day and didn't really do any web browsing with a few phones calls. I mean 14 hours is decent but from what I've read there are plenty of people getting a full day of use and still have 50% battery left.
I guess once the battery fully charges I'll put inception on, turn off syncing and try a few other things.
So I guess I said all that to say this, my battery life isn't great but it's not downright horrible either. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
And yes I'll continue browsing all the forums to see what else I can find.
Edit:
Played through half of Inception in airplane mode, brightness at minimum. I dropped from 93% to 80% in an hour and a half. Not too shabby.
Also created a shortcut to toggle between 4G modes and Edge. I know 4G is going to be a pretty big drain so I'll see how much that helps.
I'll keep tweaking it.
this is completely true and if you read the manual on page 13- h t t p:// downloadcenter . samsung . com/content/UM/201102/20110224044646930/T959_Galaxy_S_4G_English_User_Manual.pdf it says that
"• Do not wait until your battery is completely depleted before charging
your device. Repeating this process of a complete discharge and
recharge can over time reduce the storage capacity of any battery."
right now my phone is at 23% battery level with up time of 46:46:40 hrs/mins/secs. with skype calling (around 10 minutes), text messaging, browsing the net (for around 5 minutes about 6 times a day), and talking on the phone (around 15 minutes)
the settings i did:
1. took a picture with my finger blocking the camera to get pitch black picture and set that as my background and deleted all the shortcut icons (i short, i only have a blank screen with the only 4 icons down below)
2. changed the brightness settings to 2 clicks to the right from 0% brightness (or you can lower your brightness all the way down during the night, and 2 clicks away during the day, this will save you more)
3. disabled haptic feedbacks and audible touchtones, selections, and screen lock sounds
4. disabled animations
5. disabled background data and syncing when not in use
6. disabled packet data (3g), wifi, and gps when not in use
the last two are the biggest settings that made my battery last longer.
7. i only charge my phone when it gets to 20% and the manual recommends not to use the phone while charging
i hope this helps.
and yes it is recommended to charge your battery to 100% before you turn on your phone for the first time and this is also stated on the manual.
one more thing, don't forget to set your browser's brightness setting as well

[Q] Actual battery life

Hi guys, any thoughts regarding Battery life? I get roughly 8 hrs, not the 9.5-10hrs advertised/reported in the forums. Of course, this is with very high use, screen on 7.5hrs, wifi on the whole time, plex on for an hour or so, mobo video playing for an hour, and web browsing for a couple of hours, and some games too. Is this standard? Dock battery is ok, gives around 5 hrs. Any ideas on improving battery? Screen stays at 60% brightness all the time. Plus i have cnn, facebook, youtube, pulse, cnbc and plume widgets on. And active mail sync in the background.

The 9.5h time is stated for constant 720p playback so I don't think your usage is that much higher. I never stopped the time for my ASUS but I am happy with it and I guess that's what matters most.
I use SetCPU (requires root) to set the clock speed to 216MHz when idle. That seems to improve battery life.
I am not getting anywhere close to 9 hours. At first I thought it's the apps I have been running in the background or the brightness, but it's the same after I adjust it. I get about 6 hours.

I bet you can achieve the same if you duplicate their testing scenario.
As for improving battery life decreasing screen brightness can have a huge difference. The screen is often the #1 power usage item when I check on my phone. Also, reduce the checking frequency of any task that needs Wifi to get data.
It's been 15 days now since I had the TF and I can tell you based on my usage - I used up;
12% per hour - airplane mode, play games watch movies in auto brightness
1% per 2.5 hours standby.
So more or less 9 hours usage should be achievable.
I get about 18 hours of constant use with dock
I play with the thing all the time and I honestly haven't ended a day with my battery being below 50% yet.
Actually, out of fairly constant use, I haven't charged mine for, let's see... 2 days, 6 hours, and 52 minutes. Currently at 48% charge.
EDIT: Oh, and I don't have the dock, so it's not counting that.

It stays on auto. When it lasts me multiple days, I can't say I really worry about saving battery much.
For example, I unplugged it this morning at 7, played with it quite a bit today including playing Zenonia for a little over an hour and letting my friends play around, and my battery is currently at 75%.
Hi all. I just wanted to chime in on this thread here. Im a former owner of a xoom and can say that tablet was a beast when it came to battery life. I could have a full charge last for 2 weeks+ with very minimal use all consumed by idle standby. That was something to be said. The tf isn't as good; I can tell already, but I was surprised today! I charged it overnight and unplugged it around 11am. 98%, until I woke it up right now! Its at 97% with 13 hrs 39min. I probably had the screen on for only 5 minutes, but pretty good! One thing to point out that helped me a lot was to always have the tab in airplane mode. You can still have the wifi on and stay in airplane mode. That seemed to make a difference with the xoom. Just my $.02

Its doesn't seem that any of you guys are reading the manual when it comes to battery.
It says it clear in the manual. Why not follow what the book says, I guess some dont read.
"If you intend to use battery power, be sure to fully charge your battery pack before going on long trips.Remember that the power adapter charges the battery pack as long as its plugged into the computer and AC power source. Be aware thats it takes much longer the charge the battery pack and when the Eee Pad is in use"
Remember to fully charge the battery (8 hours or more) before the first use and whenever it is depleted to prolong battery life. The battery reaaches it's maximum capacity after a few full charging and discharging cycles.
"To prolong Battery life, charge the battery for up to 8 hours when using Eee Pad for the first time and whenever the battery power is fully depleted.

[Q] Battery life

So far this tablet has been great, but since their hasn't been a thread yet on peoples experience with battery life I thought I should start one. So far I get about 4 hrs using constant internet browsing, but I hope that it improves as I do more charge cycles. How about you guys?
I'm at 48% after 7.5 on screen time doing mostly browsing, prolly 1 hr of dark shadows. Loving this battery, just need a kernal to clock it higher to accommodate the slight delay I see with heavy browsing.

Expected SOT

Hi,
recently I bought N5 and I am very pleased with it. I could say that I love it. But I am worried about my battery. When I was buying it, the dealer at my carrier store, was hiding the box when opening it from me. I think that the box was not sealed any more ( i dont know if it is only in my country but here it's usuall that when buying a new phone they cut the sticker on the box infront of you). When I called at my store they said that they had only one more. And I am worried that the phone was used befor me for showcasing in the store. My battery usually lasts for two days ( I also have N7 so when on university i use N7 for heavy work) but barely get 3 hours of SOT. Wifi and 4G mostly off and brightness at minimum or max at 30% if on sun. Assistant of, gps of, ART on, using snapdragon BatteryGuru. I would really like to know what SOT should I get with this settings. And if you guys think I should go for warranty and hope that they replace my battery. Is there any way of seeing if the phone was already factory reset? Also I saw guys getting 5-6 hours SOT with wifi on here on XDA. Don't get me wrong I love the standby time but when using it (FB, twitter, messaging, browsing Chrome, 2 mail syncing) the battery drains like F1 car drains gas. If this is somewhere answered close the thread and point me there . Thank you

screen on time is totally dependent on personal usage.
the best thing to do would be to root it and install 'better battery stats'. then you can analyze your battery properly. feel free to let this run for a full discharge and then post your screenshots
Yeah the problem with SOT is purely personal and that is why I posted here to see what you guys think. But still it is interesting to see how different the time can be from user to user. Will post screenshots in the evening.

remove this. It doesn't help and if anything, it makes it worse
The battery drains whether the screen is on or off. If you're getting two days of use with 3 hours sot I would say that's ok. You might get 5 hours if you drained the battery in a day. Does that make sense? It does in my head!

Ok so I removed Battery guru. And here are my stats from today (this was not my normal day of using it). Through the day the screen was almost constantly at the same level of brightness. And a lot of wifi and even 4g usage. But my battery could be draining a bit faster too because of not that good cellular coverage.
As pepdavies said with my normal use probably I would get closer to 4 hours if I would draind a battery in a day. .
Can I aske one more question? If I charge my phone over night and phone is off, will it overcharge my battery the same way as it would if it was on?

ive always charged my android devices overnight while they are on, nothing bad comes from it. you will be fine. i do it on my nexus 5 every night, yet still see at least 5 hours sot every battery cycle(5+ hours sot because i use lte exclusively, it gives better battery life than 3g/2g).

You can leave the phone plugged in 24/7/365, on or off, and it will never overcharge, whatever that may mean. Nor will it overheat, slow down, melt, or explode.
I got 7 hours of screen on time by having the screen on a low brightness but that is only practical in a dark environment. I've also disabled a lot of google stuff and uninstalled google+ which was destroying 20% of the battery regularly. Generally 5 hours of screen on time using lux to lower brightness levels but to a point where the screen still looks nice
4 hours sot is typical for stock

i dont really see how anyone can enjoy using there phone at minimum brightness unless its in a dark room i keep mine at 25% and it looks damn good using a tweaked gamma profile. Regarding battery i average 4.30 hours screen on time and 23 hours total with wifi only mostly web browsing and as said already there will be no harm in charging your phone overnight when i wake up its at 100% and battery temp is at around 24c

you are right that it will never overcharge, it is not optimal to keep your device with a full charge of battery for an extended period of time. by extended period of time i mean 5+ days

there are many people in this world and we all have our own likes and dislikes.
when im outside I enjoy being outside and do not use my device except to check a notification or two. so when im inside and in an average lit room, I can drop the brightness to about 15% and that is enough for me. remember, lighting the screen is the phone's biggest battery hog. any decrease to this will increase your SoT. I enjoy getting an extra 2 hours out of my device before i have to be tied to a power cord
that said, im waiting for my zerolemon battery case to ship and can't wait
