I have a Dell XPS17(laptop), Nokia N900 (phone) and a TF700 (tablet).
I am trying to get Bluetooth anything working on the TF700 with my other devices.
I am running Fedora 17 on the XPS17.
I am running JB on the TF700. Its never been rooted or flashed.
I can browse and file transfer to the N900 from the XPS17. No problems. I can access the N900s 3G data connection from the XPS17, no problem. It works well.
Nothing Bluetooth works with the TF700. It seems to pair to both devices just fine, but that is where it stops.
I want to do the following
- send files to the TF700 from the XPS.
This doesn't work, even though Fedora shows its an available bluetooth service. Fedora attempts the send, but nothing seems to arrive on the TF700.
- browse files on the TF700 from the XPS.
Fedora does not show this is an available service.
- access the N900s 3G data connection from the TF700.
In the settings menu, when I click on the N900 paired device settings, it shows a checkbox for "Use for Internet Access". When I enable that it starts Connecting... and takes forever. Eventually it returns.
When I bring up the pop up small settings menu, it displays the Bluetooth icon in the area where it displays the network connection, but says "No Internet connection". In spite of that, it seems as though I can download a web page or two in Firefox and then the connection dies.
I have no Bluetooth tether "client" software installed on the TF700.
I experienced the same behavior in ICS. I was hoping the JB upgrade would address these issues.
Any ideas on fixing this situation ?
Thanks
i used to be able to send/receive files to/from my galaxy nexus and pc. But since JB, the share option to bluetooth is not available.
bluetooth file transfer from play.
my bluetooth pairing is nightmare.... each time i pair to n900 my tf700t JB4.1.1 gets a reboot.... no problem with ICS... is there a BT driver issue with JB? i saw many other threads with JB BT issues... currently relying on Joikuspot to tether my n900 to tf700t.. gosh this is sick... overall is a good update...

I'm using Mobile Hotspot. Works really well after some tweaking. Amazing to do this on the N900, straight forward, with no hiccups whereas on an iPhone 4 you have to inform the carrier, extra charge and/or jailbreak it.

I installed it. I had it installed previously (ICS) and removed it because it didn't work. Now (JB update) I can send files from the TF700 to my Linux box. Yippee.
But... I want to do TF700 file management from the Linux box (XPS17), not from the TF700 itself.a
I can do this with my N900. On my Linux box, I browse the N900 file system as a mounted device in Dolphin and remotely move, upload/download, delete files on the N900 at will. Its really slick.
It appears as though the Bluetooth File Manager uses (provides ?) OPP and FTP Bluetooth profiles when its running. And yet the available TF700 profiles don't change on my Linux box.
Any ideas on making this work ?
Why isn't JB making various Bluetooth profiles available automatically ? Is there a way to make it, like install an obex server and run it as a service ?
Its ironic that all this stuff "just works" on my 2 year old N900 with the lowly Maemo 5 OS, and it seems so difficult on Android. Caveat, I'm an Android newbie.

Hmmm....
Did you follow the instructions here ?
http://myn900.wordpress.com/2010/08/23/tethering-the-n900-part-3-bluetooth/
What kernel are you running on your N900 ?
What settings are you using on your TF700 ?
More troubleshooting and testing.
I connected my N900 to my Linux box via Bluetooth. In Dolphin it says its using obexftp when browsing the N900 file structure.
I installed Bluetooth File Transfer on my TF700. In BFT, I enabled starting OPP and FTP at boot. I rebooted. I checked in Dolphin and still no browsing option is available in Dolphin. I started BFT. It then told me that it was starting ObexFTP. I check Dolphin and still no browsing option is available in Dolphin. I re paired the TF700 to the Linux box. Still nothing in Dolphin.
Why isn't Dolphin seeing an ObexFTP profile from my TF700 ?
I found one difference between the N900 and the TF700.
$ ps aux | grep obex returns obexd on the N900.
There is no friggin grep on the TF700 !
$ps aux on the TF700 finds it.medevial.blueftp on the TF700. No obexd ! Therein lies the difference.
Has anyone fooled with installing obexd on Android ?
And how do it get grep on this thing ?
Sorry if these are newbie questions.
I did a small search and saw the ability to install obexd (and other libraries) from maemo.org to make BT more functional on devices like the N9000.
Would be nice if we could find something similar like that for Android....

I'm going to put obexd on myself. Stay tuned.
Awesome - when you get it figured out, keep us posted!
I will.
I started digging into it. Seems there is a lot missing on Android compared to a regular Linux machine. Looks like I am going to need Busybox and do a bunch of NDK building. No biggie, just more than I thought it would be.
I'm not too happy with some of the ssh packages that are out there either.
Stay tuned.
Hi!
Did you manage to solve your issues?
I am also owner of n900+tf700 and I am heavily frustrated with this tethering reboots.
I am either using a 3g modem or Mobile Hotspot, but both these workarounds have limitations - modem is another device to have with me and Hotspot app drains battery in a matter of couple of hours.

Doesn't come loaded with SplashtopHD but MyCloud does the same thing and it's preloaded on the TF

Really, if can do the remote desktop thing so you can do basic point and click games?
Haven't tried to play any games but if it's basic point clicks should be do able if speed is not a factor.
sorry to disappoint you but clicks in games are very clunky at the best...Not sure why but my first guess would be there are some fundamental differences between inputs in windows api and DirectX api.. and in many (not all) games, a single click seems to only trigger a mouse-over event and you have to double click really fast and precisely in the same position to make it registered as a mouse click.

well for the moment it doesnt matter as I cant see my pc with it.
tried last night with Splashtop... the standard free version only lets u get 1024x768, while HD can get u 1280x720(extra 80 pixel taken by the bottom bar)
i tried launching Mass Effect from it, and it says failed, cos it doesnt support full screen application...
another thing worth mentioning is that the mouse control(or touchpad) is very awkward to use... it's the same control as android, right click = back, where the actual Windows right click = Hold Left Click..
also, the stream is rather laggy, i tried watching video on it.. it's not smooth, i guess it streams less then 24 fps then.. not yet practical, but got its potential, do hope Asus would improve it in the future

My problem is still at getting it and my pc to see each other, but last night I had some network issues. (First could ping other pc's but no one could ping me and also I didn't even show up on the router as there) But after 4 hours and such I think I just want to figure out how to get a refund from them for the HD copy I got since it just doesn't work for me.
Even after I got my PC to show up on the network and everything else, it still doesn't show up. Load it on another pc boom shows up first time.
Damn, i installed the desktop version and showed me webpage to download splashtop for android. Did this and after 5 minutes it disconnected and showed me a paid app for full functionality. I buyed this, but now after 10 days is see it is included in mycloud. So i asked for a refund and they say: too late! this can only be done in 7 days!

Welcome to the ****ed over club then, I bought the HD and normal one. One for my phone and one for my tablet, and after 5 days of fighting with it I still can't get any of them to see my PC and all they do is shout port forward like I am to stupid to have done that first. The site they have also has limited support.
The one that came with the mycloud stuff I think is the old one and HD is the newer one.
Has anyone used it to stream Netflix from their PC? Youtube seems A-ok.
Got it free with mycloud... paid for the HD version. Best RDP software I've tried and I've tried a few

I haven't tried Netflix, but I've streamed live tv from my PC with a couple of DVB-C cards. This works fine and channel changes are almost as fast as when viewed on the PC directly, so I don't see any reason why Netflix shouldn't work too.
In order to play any game you have to set it to windowed mode. I played SC2 the other night. it wasnt bad but it's hard typing and playing at the same time unless you have the dock with mouse
Splashtop HD supports full-screen, so you can run games and watch videos in full-screen now. As to why your PC isn't detected, have you tried manually adding the internal IP of your PC? Did you try setting up Static internal IP? What kind of router are you running, I know some cheap routers have issues with routing properly even with correct settings.

I've had the problem where it was working and then stopped being detected. A reboot fixed the issue but for those that did get it working and it stopped working, this is what I had to do..

Aye I did, it's a netgear one. My pc has a set internal ip of 192.168.1.100 and at first no other system could see or ping me, never needed too so the problem was never noticed. I fixed it so now I can be seen and such but the app still won't find my pc, even when I manually add it to the program.
I went to the router and already forwared the ports it needed to .100 on my end and that is the only advise they keep drolling out at me. I know this works and was livid when I installed it on a pc wired into the router and boom found it right away, I know the issue is on my pc side just not sure what.
Hi all,
It's my first time posting here.
Got my TF fro about 2 weeks now, generally quite happy with it but have some problem using splashtop as some of you here.
I wanted to use TF to control my laptop at office. I was able to control my laptop if through local network but when try to control it from outside internet, I have done all the proper portforwarding (setting port 6783~6785 linked to my laptop static IP) I always failed
My laptop connect to office router (WAG200G) through wireless though. Could that be a problem?
Thanks
I can play games with Splashtop HD and they run great (even games like Crysis2).
The only problem is that I must use the same WiFi network.
If I connect my PC from a different network, it's very slow to even just browse my PC, not to mention playing a game.
@liorry how do you connect to PC on different network?
Did you end up buying a OBD2 Wifi (not bluetooth) interface for your car, noticing android got some problems with ad-hoc connections and can't connect that easy, that you may have thought?
Well, if so, I'm at least not the only one
In my case I wanted to have a look at my engine stats etc. You might also be happy about checking the vin stored in the cars ecu with the one you got on paper, when buying a used car or else. Anyway I did not want those crappy bluetooth thing for some bucks. I wanted it to use wifi and also to be able to connect via usb to a laptop, if neccessary.
I got mine from eBay for about 80$. There is a bunch of these things avaible everywhere. I can't really tell you which one is better in which way. Most of them come out of china and are built pretty cheap, just like mine
BUT at least they work the way the should, once configured right.
IN GENERAL --> without any kind of workaround you shold keep in mind:
BT OBD2 is used for android devices. No Problem
WIFI OBD2 is usually used for iDevices, as they're not allowed to share BT with non-iDevices.
I didn't really make up my head about the second part, as I'm using android on every device I personally own.
Here's a tutorial on how I solved it anyway:
1. Buy yourself some OBD2 interface with wifi and the software you desire. Didn't test anything else but torque pro; no guarantee that other apps support these android-wifi-adhoc-obd-interface-workarounds
2. you need a rooted phone, in every possible case afaik.
3. Plug in your OBD interface and look, if you can see it in your wlan list.
In my case...I couldn't^^
If you see it jump to Number 4.4, if not, just keep on reading.
4. Getting my device, which is a HTC Sensation, with ARHD 6.6.7 - 4.0.3 ICS, connected to it required some effort:
4.1. I used a different wpa_Supplicant, to be able to see adhoc networks
I got this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549065&highlight=adhoc also attached in the Thread. Full Credits go to the dev, although I don't know who it was exactly.
4.2. REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL WPA_SUPPLICANT AND SWITCH WIFI OFF BEFORE!
It's stored in system/bin; so you'll need a explorer (mount R/W) for your phone's file system. I always used the root explorer. Worked flawlessly everytime. (mount R/O afterwards).
4.3. Flash the attached file in recovery -> I did at least find the adhoc network after it. Remember that some wifi off, wifi on sometimes solves problemes with this. This was at least the case for me. Reboot.
4.4. Now that you can see the OBD interface in your wlan list, you propably tried to connect, didn't you?
For most of us, this won't work, that easy, as your OBD interface doesn't work as a DHCP router, so you're in the need of taking a static IP.
Therefore it always depends on which IP range your interface is networking. In the most cases this will be 192.168.0.X
Picture #1 is a screen of the config tool, that came with mine so I can modify these values. (What is not really neccessary, cause you're doing this with your phone.)
Picture #2 are my stats. You can edit yours by long pressing on your desired OBD device in your phones wifi list and pressing "edit network". After that, change to advanced configuration and choose static IP.
4.5. Save your preferences and try to connect. Again I think my wifi needed a reboot to work with the values set now. So just swith it off/on again.
5. You're done. More or less. Because this is just what made me able to connect but drop my connection to the OBD after trying to access it via torque. It did connect (as seen on adapter status in torque), but lose connection after some seconds. It just didn't really work for a longer period of time. There also used to be connecting errors with my home wifi.
5. After hours of testing and experimenting with this whole topic I came to the conclusion my home network didn't work anymore or rather my phone couldn't keep up the connection. What you have to do is switch back to your old wpa_supplicant. Don't worry, your OBD interface should be saved and is still accessable afterwards.
5.1. SWITCH WIFI OFF. Navigate to system/bin via root explorer or similiar. (mount R/W) locate the wpa_supplicate and delete/rename/remove it and put the original file back in it. (mount R/O afterwards). Reboot.
(Picture #3 shows how it looked on my device after switching back to the original file.)
5.2. You're finally done.
Remember not to forget that wrong permissions could lead to errors. Refer to my attached screenshot or your original file, if neccessary.
where you found the configuration tool??
I've been waiting and waiting for ICS to come out, so that I can use bluetooth tethering to my PC at work, like I do with my wifi-only Xoom. Unfortunately, this seems to be disabled. Can someone please confirm this and let me know if there is a way to enable it? I've seen the thread about enabling it on the 4.0.4 leak with the SQLLite hack, but I'm not sure this would work with the new ICS.
Thanks!
Though I have another Bluetooth issue (mentioning it here cause it also lists a driver issue in computer which is a common issue) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931540
I have mentioned therein I was successfully able to establish BT tether (will probably post a screenshot later) but If I recall, I had to right click the device (our phone listed under "Printers & Devices" on Win 7) & then click connect & only then the tether went thru successfully and until then it did not. I hope it makes sense to you. BT Tether is very much part of ICS 4.0.4 stock OTA upgrade (can't say about custom ROM's)

My son always tethered to my Atrix 2 with his ipod touch and he also can no longer connect since I updated to stock ICS. I'm rooted and using SQLite Editor, but I see nothing in the settings.db that remotely looks like enabling bluetooth PAN (tethering). Anyone else have a fix?
Can't bluetooth tether anymore
I used to connect my android tablet to my atrix 2 over bluetooth with GB on the atrix 2 and have internet on the tablet. Now with ICS on the atrix 2, I no longer have the internet profile listed under bluetooth when connecting to it from the tablet, and I cannot get internet to my tablet.
It appears that downgrading my OTA ICS is not an option (but I'm still searching), so am I hoping that I can enable this bluetooth ability again. Has anyone found a way to do this?
I am having a similar issue, I just got a nexus 7 and was hoping to bluetooth tether my A2 to it. I don't use bluetooth really at all, but I wanted to use it for this. When I first tried to set it up I could pair my A2 to my N7 but it wouldn't connect. I tried connecting my A2 to my laptop, same thing, it would pair but not connect. However, I could pair, connect, and transfer files between my N7 and my laptop.
I cleared data from bluetooth share and rebooted, no luck.
I cleared data from bluetooth dun and rebooted. At this point I could pair, connect and transfer files with my A2 and laptop, but still couldn't connect with N7.
I downloaded bluetooth file transfer from the market. It said that I could only transfer files to the other device not from it (same thing whether I did it from the A2 or N7). It said that I connected, but when I tried to transfer a file I would get an error.
I downloaded foxfi and pdanet table from the market, couldn't connect or tether with this either.
I did a factory reset, still laptop worked, N7 didn't.
When I go into the bluetooth setting on my A2 or my N7 the only options I have for either are to change name, or unpair.
After each troubleshooting step, I tried to see if my N7 was able to access my A2's data, but it never could.
I have searched extensively and have been unable to find an answer or a solution.
Essentially, I want to tether my A2 to my N7 with bluetooth, They will pair witheachother but they will not connect. Help?

Yeah tried that, no go.
I've been trying to set up AirAudio on my generic tablet. I know there are other solutions for most purposes and I'm already using a couple (BubbleUPNP is my favourite so far).
However, I'd really like to stream from my tablet's system audio to either my phone or laptop (to get past the lack of bluetooth on my tablet).
So after installing AirAudio and it not seeing anything, I followed the recommendation to install Bonjour Browser, which also didn't see anything - same result for Zeroconf Browser.
A bit of googling suggested some settings for my router - no success.
Then, I tried installing Zeroconf Browser on my phone (Samsung Galaxy Neo) and ... all Zeroconf-enabled devices appeared! Same when I tried avahi-browse on my laptop.
So the problem seems to be that something is preventing my tablet from seeing Zeroconf devices.
Anyone have any suggestions? (apart from "buy a better tablet" or "do some better research before buying anything!" which are already echoing around my head )
A quick update - this does seem to be, at least partly, a router problem. I tried an old tp-link router that I had forgotten about, and Bonjour and Zeroconf browsers suddenly sprang to life on my tablet.
Unfortunately, the reason I replaced the tp-link router is that the adsl part fitzed out during a thunderstorm. So I now have a bit of an unwieldy setup using both routers.
In any case, I'd like to get get my Zyxel router working properly with zeroconf, and I've heard that their customer support is pretty good, so I guess I'm about to find out.
I'll post results to this thread, in case anyone else has similar problems.
Hey there! i was at my local store looking for a controller and came across the Steelseries Stratus Duo, i got it and brought it home hoping that it would work nicely with my phone, the exact opposite was true, i was using Bluetooth
and it had horrible lag and often times disconnected i tried to fix the lag and connection drops, nothing worked.
And sense this has no way to update firmware (at-least at the moment) on the Bluetooth side, i am not able to use it in that mode.
I have tested this on multiple devices, some carrying the bt 5.0 chip some with bt 4.2 and some with bt 4.1
the controller says it is using a Bt 4.1 chip (that's what it says on the box)
all exhibit the same issue's as noted above. most if not all are supposed to be compatible, but all of them are glitchy. with this controller.
So i was understandably disappointed, not wanting to return the controller,i tried out something, if you have ever used steam link app for android and plugged in a USB controller? if so the application will ask you if you want to use it with your device? you can choose yes or no, i tried it and was really surprised that it worked as well as it did, absolutely no issues with lag nor random connection drops.
just REALLY SOLID PERFORMANCE.
So, that gave me an idea, what if i made a stand alone application that allows us to use the included USB receiver with android?
and add extra functionality on top of it. such as emulating other controllers for better app compatibility.
I was looking for a driver or something that can pull access from that receiver. something i can integrate into my project.
As far as i know the controller is just seen as a Xbox 360 controller so i was wondering if there is a Pre-made driver for integration with apps, that would save me a lot of time and would simplify the process quite a bit.
The app will be free and will be given to people on my discord and on host sites.
Here's a link to the discord server i created.
nevermind its not letting me post links (thats fine)
I created the discord server because other people are having this issue as well.
and that's where all the progress will be recorded. also if you have this controller and are experiencing issues you can join too!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
