So...I have had an Evo Shift for well over a year now, and rooted for most of that time.
Something broke. Namely the down volume key. It thought it was continually pressed. You can imagine what happened every time I powered up.
I managed to get into safe mode, and unroot the phone. Took it in to get fixed. They had to replace it.
I now have a brand new Evo Shift. I have no idea if it is on the latest OTA or not. How do I tell?
Here are the specs from the About page:
Android version
2.3.4
HTC Sense version
2.1
Software number
2.77.651.3
More
Baseband, Kernal version, etc
PRI Version
2.97_003
PRL Version
60690

Once updated the official way (RUU from HTC website from AT&T), bringing your phone to android 2.2.2, then their is currently no way to root it. If you rooted from android 2.1 then updated using Cyanogenmod, then go here and use this to root: http://unrevoked.com/recovery/. Download, run it and follow instructions. N.B- This (current version - 3.32) will not work on factory updated android 2.2.2.
P.S. - You should have made this thread in the HTC Aria General section here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=681.
I don't know is that official way i updated my phone.
It was like auto update.
A message poped out and ask me whether want to update the version or not.
Is 2.2 and 2.2.2 equivalent ?
How if i never root before ??

Check your hboot version. Instructions:
1. Turn off your phone
2. Hold volume down
3.Power on (still holding volume down)
Look at HBOOT and reply what version you have. If it is 1.02.0000, then your phone is currently unrootable. If you see 0.57, then you can root your phone by doing what I said in my first post. I don't know why it only says 2.2, but the hboot version will tell it all.
The Asian release was just 2.2

Yea its 1.02.0000 =.=" bad news :/
I pulled this from HTC Sprint Hero MR 2.27.651.6.exe. I believe that you just need to rename it to HERCIMG.zip and then boot into HBOOT via VOL-DN and PWR.
android.turnertechrepair.info/rom.zip
I may be wrong on the numbers. but the RUU Ver I stated was right. I'm a noob in this area. But I flashed that to my phone and those are the numbers I saw.
can you extract the stock recovery for me and zip it in a HERCIMG.zip and post it? I would be very appreciative
is this a new update thats coming soon?
Whoa........

This is a maintenance release for our Hero's back in November of 2010 and is 2.1
no this isnt new sprint hasnt sent an official update sense November this is the ruu they sent out back in april im pretty sure
http://www.talkandroid.com/21754-sprint-hero-maintenance-release-2-32-651-2-now-available/
This was the update that came with the Sprint Zone application. This is what I had installed prior to rooting back in December 2010.
OK, I appreciate all of the feed back. This is a file I pulled from the most recent ruu on the sprint site. It is definitely 2.1. I will get the correct numbers for you all tomorrow. I used a similar file to put my hero to stock as I run linux and couldn't RUU. This one is a little more recent than the one that was previously posted on this forum.
Hello, New here, checked through the suggested threads but they do not entirely answer my questions. Hope any of you guys can help.
I am with o2, and have recently handed my HTC Desire in for repair under warranty as it has the motherboard fault where it reboots continually in a loop!!
My HTC Desire has 2.2 Froyo and is not rooted, totally stock.
I know for most Mobile manufactuers, it is normal procedure when a phone is in for repair for the tech to install the latest software, in my case 2.3.3 Gingerbread. As 2.3.3 for the desire is not an OTA update, and comes with many disclaimers, will the HTC Tech guys still install?
I don't want this update, as it will stop me rooting my phone, which is something I plan to do once I get it back. If I would have known prior to handing my phone in, that HTC have blocked the ability to root the Desire then I would have certainlly made it clear that I do not want stock 2.3.3 from them, rather use a custom Rom with all the nice bits that Gingerbread and Sense give, rather then the stripped out version from HTC!!
If I get my Desire back with 2.3.3, do I have any grounds to refuse the phone and ask for a new one seeing as 2.3.3 from HTC can't be reverted?
Thanks
Ryan
Just noticed today that the Telus Desire HD (Same exact hardware as the Inspire with the 2 mics and same radio) is getting the Android 2.3.5 update with 3.0 Sense. This is good news I would imagine for Inspire Users. It means a base for the Inspire for 2.3.5 has been created with the correct drivers. Also it increases the chances that an official ATT Inspire build may just be released.
http://androidadvices.com/telus-canada-htc-desire-hd-android-235-ota-update/
where to get the link ?
At this point I haven't seen an actual RUU yet. Although I assume it will soon surface. The update is being given by OTA at the present.
I just got the OTA update and applied it to the Telus ROM and it's running on my Inspire right now. Seems to work 100% out of the box. I'll put a rooted ROM together and hopefully have it out tomorrow.
Edit: Posted a rooted ROM from this here:

i have been using my inspire 4g for few years now with the stock 2.3.3 w/o any problem until i accepted the update notification from at&t for 2.3.5 which i hate now. Long story short, it just made my exchange email crap and it became a burden. I do not know anything about rooting so bought a used Atrix 2 hoping to have ICS on it.
But the phone came withe the following:
Android Version: 2.3.5
System Version: 55.11.11.MB865.ATT.en.US
Build Number: 5.5.1-175_EDFFW1-11
As soon as I power on, the setup screen comes in where I enter my google details and it takes me to home screen and all is well. But when I click the 'Contacts' icon, it takes me to AT&T address book directly and starts rotating endlessly. Never give me an option to disable AT&T address book in contacts. It goes directly there and never completes even though I have data and wifi enabled. I tried at&t support as i don't have at&t phonebook registered - they asked me to upgrade to ICS.
Then I tried the OTA ICS upgrade and it always says the 'The device is upto date and no software upgrade is necessary'. It never upgrades the OS. At this point, at&t said they can't do anything and asked me to talk to Motorola. Motorola said this phone is running a version that is not supported so they can't help either. I have been googling and reading a lot of posts in this forum for help without much success.
I did check out the following and asked for help there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2047087&page=2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968&page=69
Can someone please point me a thread or give me steps i need to follow to get this phone out of stock and working condition?
I am also working on getting my inspire out of stock OS but would love to get this phone fixed first.
Thanks in advance.

If you want to get the official ICS then here is the fxz for AT&T US phones (if you are somewhere else or using a different carrier, then you probably don't want this and need to supply more info.)
A couple of things to note. Once you upgrade to the official ICS there is NO going back to Gingerbread (unless someone hacked something together and I missed it), but it's best to assume you won't. Make backups before you do anything, better safe than sorry. If you don't like not having an option to revert to Gingerbread, then there are other options, but not the one mentioned.
If all is good and you want to flash the Official ICS, then you can visit the noob guide which will tell you how to flash a FXZ and what is needed.
Thank you. I really don't like the idea of not going back to Gingerbread but at this time my priority is to get this atrix 2 up and running. So am ok to get the official ics but the following says i should go to 2.3.6 in order to get to ics. Is that still true for the link you provided?

The link you posted is for ICS Leak#1, that will get you on ICS and as long as you're on Leak #1 only, you can revert to Gingerbread by using a specific FXZ from the link you posted. Your choice. The Official ICS that I posted has everything and will overwrite everything, so whether you flash from 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 it's going to upgrade the bootloader and system. Just remember, if you use the Offical ICS, then no more Gingerbread. Personally, I haven't wanted or needed Gingerbread since I got ICS.
Dear jsknair.
You can directly flash with OTA ICS update, no need to go to 2.3.4 then update to 2.3.6 the OTA ICS.
I very easy as other guy said study noob guide. After that within 10 min you will be on ICS and its really good you don't think to go back to GB.
I like to thanks Jimbirdman :thumbup:to help me for update my Atrix 2.
