Google has started to distribute the firmware update to Android 4.1.2. The Jelly Bean update will be released in batches and not in one go, which is why some owners of a Nexus device have it already, while others still need to wait.
Many crucial innovations brings this Jelly Bean update but not with: As Jean Baptiste Queru (JBQ) known to 'Google Groups' was, is this is a "minor update", which is based on Android 4.1.1.
"Under the hood" but it should be some fixes for the user but is only now natively supported the so-called landscape mode is a major innovation: This allows to use the home screen can also across. Previously this was only indirectly, so additional software possible.
The update will be distributed over the air (OTA), the first thing is to follow the Google Tablet Nexus 7's turn to later updates for Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Xoom (U.S.) and Nexus S. Gives a precise schedule it to not just missing an official changelog. JBQ, however, has revealed that an internal change with a revision of the device (3G variant of the N7?) And is a new power management chip in context.
How 'T3N' writes, you can also force the update apparently that does not work, however, must necessarily: The steps are as follows: In the settings, choose from the point apps, go to "All" (far right) and the entry "Google services Framework" out. There pressed "Clear Data" and then leads you to the OTA update (Settings> About tablet> System updates) from (Note: We did not, however, the works).
The update, however, can also be flashed manually, how it works, says 'Android Police'. This version is recommended but not more, as the costs for a small update is well out of proportion.
Edit: Move to General pls.
Why did you post such news in Development?
I knew this yesterday. Do not post in development section.

App Store
Please be advised that a software update is now available that provides access to an Apps Store directly from your G Tablet. Owners of the G Tablet will receive an automatic notice of the new software upgrade. Users can then simply click on the Apps Store icon from their G Tablet to gain access to 1,000's of leading Android apps. (Please note that the automatic notification requires that the G Tablet has WiFi Internet access upon power-on.)
Adobe Flash Support
The Viewsonic G Tablet hardware and firmware provides full support for the Adobe Flash Player built into the unit. At the time that the G Tablet was manufactured, the Adobe Player application was not available for this product. We anticipate that a version of the Adobe Flash Player Application will be available by December 19, 2010. Owners of the G Tablet will receive an automatic notice that the plug-in is available for download to further expand their web access and entertainment. (Please note that the automatic notification requires that the G Tablet has WiFi Internet access upon power-on.)
anyone get the appstore update?
None here to report
(no mods)
If this is an OTA update, most likely none of us with mods will get it -- it's probably getting pushed down via the TnT OTA service. They might push down an update.zip and then do a reboot into recovery to run it. If that's the case, we might be able to intercept the update. Maybe.
EDIT: I called CS (I love 'em, they are a great bunch to talk to, in all seriousness). Sounds like the update is ready to go and it sounds like it's an OTA update. Lots of bug fixes as well as their App Store, which sounds like a web site of some kind. It may have been pulled at the last minute but should show up this weekend or early next week.
It also sounds like the new shipments to Staples are part of the reason for getting this out so I hope that means they will work overtime to get this out ASAP. We will see.
Ignoring the terrible condition at launch, the update came pretty quickly. Hopefully we'll see more updates.
No update here and I registered my unit right after I got it.
I wonder if there is anything we have to do to get the update?
Update process?
IS there anything that an enduser needs to do to recieve the update? If it's OTA does it ask before it install that update? I keep checking their website but they don't seem to view it as a communication tool. Those poor CS people are about to get swamped I guess

The site is a portal for pocketgear and apps linked there for download. Apparently all "compatible" with tablets. Since a near-full market now works for the Gtablet with the framework data wipe trick, I will wait for you or Roth to post some magic from the official update

I got my update Thursday night. My tablet posted a notification that I had an update available, I clicked on it and it downlozded. It seems to have fixed the clock loosing time, their market app now works, the update icon was changed, wifi seems to be more stable and reliable. They also seem to have addressed the storage card issues, but it still does not recognize my microsd card installed. It sees it but I haven't found a way to access it yet.
Downside: they screwed up the default home page. The three windows are now blank waiting for data. I have not been able to add or change any thing on this screen.
I am running stock tablet no mods.

Still nothing on the update here... no notification or anything. I sure hope my registration went through. I saw where somone said they got an email after registering, I did not receive an email.

That's my goal - I want the update just so I can mod it into TnT Lite 2.00. Right now I have a vanilla config on my device and I'm waiting it out.
I have a feeling that we won't see the update until Monday, but I hope that I'm wrong.

They told me that there was a UAT period where the CS reps got the update on their test devices. Perhaps they don't have an actual UAT side and they added it to their production infrastructure instead which would have allowed a few consumers to get the update? That's my guess.
Can you check your kernel version? I'm curious if they sent a new one. Also, do you have an update.zip in the root of your /sdcard and, if so, can you post that? That could be the actual update that they sent down.

Yes, that is the icon to update. Just got off the phone with support. The update has been pulled until 11/22. Allegedly there were other things to be included and they wanted to release it all at once, that's what I was told anyway.

Bad decision on their part - better to have an interim update now and another early next, unless there's a nasty bug in the interim build.
A lot of shoppers will be out this weekend and they really need that firmware update NOW.
EDIT: Added a new thread - I felt this was important enough that it was warranted.

Since I got my G yesterday, I have not seen the App Store anywhere on it. Here is the update I have on mine:
Tap UI Update
Current Version: Flextronics/harmony/harmony/:2.2/FRF91/hudson-20101023-135552-TnT_SVN_2638:user/testkeys
I registered my product this morning (2 hours ago) and haven't received any emails confirming registration from VS.
I do have wifi on at power-on.
Purchased it at Sears outlet for $279 of which I think is a steal just for the hardware.
I am still completely stock - no OTA update yet for me either. I did not get any sort of confirmation email when I registered...the screen just said "Thanks for Registering" and that was it.

IMPORTANT! SOFTWARE UPDATE
On November 22nd , 2010 there will be a software update released to all owners of the G Tablet. This update will be automated to your G Tablet when you are connected via wifi, however, some early customers may need to click on the Tap UI icon in the “more” section of your home page to initiate the software update. (The download will take anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour depending upon your wifi network speed.) Please follow the instructions posted on your G Tablet to install the latest product update which improves your G Tablet experience. This update includes a new Marketplace, additional applications, increased performance and micro SD capabilities. Look for additional updates in the future as we continue to enhance the G Tablet Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Important note about Gapps, please go to the following or read the excerpt below: http://goo-inside.me/gapps/#234
So what's up with the 2.3.4 GApps?
**(Please note, YMMV with all of the following information. Nandroid is your friend!)**
This is a tricky one. The problem here is that Google, unlike what they've done for every previous
update to the G1, Nexus One, Nexus S, etc., decided to compile the Talk2.apk and libtalk_jni.so to
be compatible only with the neon board, and ARM v7 (aka, the Nexus S), rather than every board, the
actual Gingerbread API's, and ARM v6 and Tegra as well. So here's where this leaves us:
20110307: Technically works just fine on 2.3.4, just as it did on 2.3.3. Just doesn't have the Market
updates already in it (you'll get the updates as soon as you launch the Market for the first/second/third
time or so), nor does it have the new Google Talk. Because of this, it's still used in ROM Manager for
AOSP ROMs such as CyanogenMod, listed as Recommended in the Google Apps listing, and is given
at the latest/7/universal page, and the above table.
20110503: This is made directly from the 2.3.4 Nexus S OTA. The new Google Talk is included, but
is not recommended for Android 2.3.3 (CyanogenMod 7.0.x), and on most devices four main bugs are present:
Google Talk FC's when switching cameras.
Contacts do not see your video, but you see theirs, and you see your own preview.
Contacts do not see the ability to start a voice/video chat with you, and get an error instead.
Incompatible with ARMv6 or Tegra devices.
Lithid's GApps: Technically, these work. Problem is that they don't work on ARM v6 or Tegra, still generate
FC's when switching cameras, and it has modified APK's and libraries. Because the files have been modified,
they cannot be distributed here or on ROM Manager under the "back up our software" approach.
So what can be done? In the meantime... Not much. We're basically waiting for a manufacturer to release a 2.3.4
OTA update which has a universally-compiled library and app. Otherwise, 20110307 is recommended for everyone on
2.3.3-2.3.4 (CyanogenMod 7.0.x-7.1.x). There might be other options that present themselves (a new OTA for a
Nexus device which has the files we need, someone breaking into the Googleplex (that was a joke!), etc.), but
until then, there's not much anyone can do. If you have any questions, ideas, etc., you can contact me on Twitter.
Thx, was wondering why video chat wouldn't start on 20110503... this explains it.
Got the same problem here.. Black screen when trying to make a video call on latest CN7.. sucks.. hopefully they will fix this soon.. basically we're waiting for LG/Google to release 2.3.4 officially for us?
Recommend as a sticky... This is good info that's going to get buried....
I'm running stock 2.3.3 and I'm still on the old market software (2.3.4). Will my handset update to the new market automatically? Are there any benefits to the new market besides the improve GUI? (I'm desperately hoping the search is improved!)
As much I'd like the fancy new look of the new market, I'm wary of updating due to the new auto-update feature in case my phone has a dodgy eMMC. Is there anyway to disable the auto-update feature before it gets chance to start?
Please note, the new market is very very slow...
Not much of an upgrade apart from the visual changes

The earlier versions of the new market were slow, eg 3.1.5, but the new one is much better, i.e. 3.3.11
Plus, the new version prevents simultaneous installs and crashes, with apps being installed sequentially. I've been flashing new ROMs with the new market, and my apps all reinstall automatically, i've never faced a hangup yet!
Plus, the new market gives you a one-click abort to stop installation of all apps in one go... unlike the old one where you had to cancel each app one by one... Also, there is the option to only update when on wifi. Saves mobile data package and if you have that option checked, and you're not on wifi, your apps wont update at all!!
I would definitely recommend the new market.
The good news is that the new version had a setting to disable auto updates.
The bad news is that Oli is right. For the sake of a fancy UI, it's slower, laggy, and will frequently tell you updates are available for apps when in fact they are not. The latest version 3.3.11 is slightly better than previous efforts, but i still have to abort updates, clear data, and get false update notifications.
If you are on stock and not rooted, google will be pushing this polished turd onto your phone soon.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that wnp
It is slightly better with the new 3.3.11 compared to 3.x.x but could still do with a speed boost!
Market 3.2.0 was just released a few days ago! Wonder what changes it brings!
@enigmaamit wow never knew that! So are you saying that it could be safe to hit auto update on all apps, as it does it one by one? No more chance of a fried Emmc chip?

Yup, i've updated around 15 apps at one go, and the install occurs sequentially instead of simultaneously.
No issues so far (four different ROM flashes with the new market)
The biggest issue for me with the 3.x markets is that "compatibility check" of the application with the device registered. Since there are not too many of you complaining, I presume you are not using a non-standard screen density. If you do it, market will show for many application the "application is not compatible..." message and you're not allowed to download it. 240 screen density (standard for HDPI devices) is too big for my taste, I prefer something like 200-210. In this case alot of applications designed for HDPI cannot be installed (Skype for ex is one of them, but there are many).
Adding this on top of the slowness of the new market, makes me using the "old" 2.3.6 version which is perfect. Unfortunately this version was giving FCs with the ICS ROM I've tested (the alpha from superkid) so I am wondering if it will work at all on ICS or I should be forced to upgrade to the latest market (which is something I don't want).
If somebody finds out a way to bypass this compatibility check, please share, it is very annoying
Thanks for your input guys. I think I'm going to wait until the new market is pushed to my phone. Hopefully by then some more of the bugs might have been worked out. I'm in no rush.

Have just pulled the update down my self, and the installation seemed to go well. The update has resulted in the following error: “Unfortunately, VirusScan Mobile has stopped.”, and with the options “Report” and “OK”. Regardless of pressing send or OK, the same pop-up appears half a second later. Power of and on have not help.
I don’t know what to do right now to get rid of the problem. The device is useless right now.
If you think about upgrading, I would think twice before jumping into the update. Might be better to wait until more success stories appears

Update: Acer Denmark was not able to help (unless I would return it). I succeded in getting into the settigns menu and killed the VirusScan Mobile, so I am able to use it for now (until I have to reboot it )

Ive had the same Problem.
With a taskkiller i have killed the app temp. and then i have erase the Data from Virusmobile in the Setup->Apps.
Until now no Popup.
But i don't konw if the Virusmobile is still running.
Calendar issue
The calendar keeps forgetting what calendar/calendars have be selected for viewing.

Also just installed it - Mobile Virusscan was a bit annoying to stop because the FC message pops up in the foreground like every second, leaving you unable to proceed, so you gotta be quick to get into app control...
I deactivated it and switched to Avast! which I already have on my SGS2 and am quite happy with.
That done I must say I'm a bit disappointed performancewise, I don't really have the feeling it got any faster or more fluid.
I had the A700 EMEA_DE but when check for update it say your device is up-to-date
How you got the update can anyone please upload the update zip file?
Awesome! I also got the update, but will this wipe all my current apps and stuff?
Edit:
I read after searching (hehe, sorry, replied too quick), that OTA updates never wipe the installed apps and data. It only updates system related stuff.
Edit2:
Phew, download is SLOW!
Edit3: Sorry, it's not slow, it's fast, but the tablet was almost out of range of the router.
I got the update too in Germany.
My download was quite fast though. No it doesn't change anything in your userdata.Apps and settings are the same.
For me it seems much smoother in the first 5 minutes i checked it out.
Big improvement as far as i could see.
Someone knows what about the A701?

Nice surprise
Unluckily when I start a manual search for updates, I get the following error meaasge: "System update is not allowed on your device".
Haven't tried it before, because there was nothing to search for. I think it's due to rooting the device, right?
I used method 2 from this post.
Any ideas how to get the update working?
------------------------------
With temp unroot from OTA RootKeeper I can manage to search for an update, but there seems to be nothing available for my device until now.
(Installing might fail anyway due to the patched kernel.)
Yeah I said it is coming soon, I am made great acer muahah but unfortunately I do not have the update.

I have the DE version living in Germany but no update
The A500 ICS update. Also not push to all peoples at the same time.
So I thank DE JB version also like that.
Remember the "Power MANAHEMENT" update?
Also push to DE version first, than FR. and US will be the last.
And HK version need to wait one more month later.
Any feedback on the touch sensitivity after the update?
it will be really appreciated when a lucky german user will upload a cwn dump !
What this update does
The update installs the following stuff:
- JB, obviously. Which includes changing the time font, Recent Apps and colour of the soft button pressing (gray instead of blue).
- Google Chrome.
- Acer Cloud.
- Google Currents.
- Google Voice Search (Google Now).
The update installs the following widgets:
- Google Play Books (doesn't seem to work).
- Google Play Music.
- Play - My Library.
- Play Recommendations.
It Improves the touch experience greatly. Note that the option in the Settings is set back to "Normal", you can change it to "High" but it doesn't seem to be necessary.
No other languages are added.
Google Play Store doesn't seem to be updated. I still need to download the full app after an update.
All the apps start and shut down fast, only the launcher doesn't seem to work that smooth anymore. Maybe try another launcher like Apex?
Also, I can't seem to expand the notifications. Long pressing the notifications shows an option to open the app info.
Can't it play Dead Trigger with Ultra High setting smoothly?
The ics is fxxking lag when playing this game...
Samsung has been on a KitKat spree lately, and it has just about covered most of its popular devices from the last two(ish) years with the update. Today, Verizon updated its support docs for the Galaxy SIII, which indicates that the update is on its way in the coming days, as well.
Aside from KitKat, this update brings a couple of new enhancements, like the inclusion of Isis. Otherwise, it's basically the same song and dance – updated applications, bug fixes, an improved multi-app experience, the like.

Performed update. Now what is this icon?!
I performed the update last night and now there is an icon in my notification bar that won't go away and doesn't appear when I maximize the window. Its incredibly frustrating!
It won't let me post a link and the image file is too big, so add dropbox to the beginning of this and it is a picture of the icon.

Does anyone know what this is?
Nevermind! Found it doing a google image search. It is the NFC icon and can be accessed by expanding notifications and touching the top right (4 square like) icon. From there you can add the toggle button to your quick menu or turn it off.
this is the point in time were i wish i didnt have an unlocked bootloader
Did the update change/unlock anything useful?
Back when I had JB I asked this forum if I could install KitKat and was told it wasnt possible. Did the update make custom roms possible again?

Thanks for the quick reply. That's really disappointing though. I was really disappointed to see that, after updating, my phone doesnt look any different. According to the official kitkat page, I should have new features like immersion, updated hangouts and a new phone app. I don't see any of them, but my phone says its running version 4.4.2 and I'm current on updates. Am I missing something?
