Question about reading books on the tab

I'm thinking of taking back my nook tablet and picking up a galaxy tab plus. I would like to know how the nook app works on the galaxy tab If I want to read b&n books on it. Is it working well for you guys? I also want to be able to share books from my other nook color and will that work well with the nook app on a galaxy tab? thanks!

I haven't used the Nook app on my GTab7+. I find the epubs work very well with Aldiko. Actually never really used the Nook app on my NC for that matter. Have usually just migrated to more featured reader apps.

Works great for me. My wife has a nook color, the tab performs almost as well in this regard. The only feature I would miss is the read out loud option on the children's titles.

I picked up the tab after a lot of debate, with reading being one of my main uses, and not thrilled with all the nonsense going on over in nook tablet land. The nook app works wonderfully, and is my preferred reader both for nook content and side-loaded non-drm'ed epubs. It's very snappy and syncs well with my nook 3g. Plus you aren't locked into the nook ecosystem, which is always nice.

Thanks for help guys. So I can use the nook app to download books and store them on the galaxy from my b&n account? Does this work with magazine subscriptions too? Basically I want to know if I have to be connected to the internet through wifi to view my magazines or books. Thanks.

Although I dont have the Nook app, if it's anything like the Kindle's app, you won't need to be connected to the internet in order to read something. When I "download" one of my books in Kindle, the book is stored locally on my device for reading at any time.
I would imagine Nook's app to be the same. When you think about it, it would be crazy for them to require the reader to be online in order to read a book. Think of how that would turn people off from having access to reading content that they purchased.

Yes your magazines work I just traded the NT to 7+ I actually prefer the books organization in the app as opposed to how the NT organized everything. The only dissappointment is no hulu plus natively on the 7+ without work arounds.

Just an FYI for you book readers. Take a look at Overdrive. If you have a library card and your library has digital content, you should be able to connect to it and download and read books for free. You may have to wait a few days for the newest titles, but I've been reading a lot of books that way. You can't beat free.

For whatever it might be worth, I've really enjoyed using "Moon Reader" as a book reader on this tablet. Very configurable....

Cool thanks for the info. I'm basically in the same boat as you in that I'm thinking of trading in the NT for the 7+ as well. It doesn't help that it seems B&N is having trouble with losses mounting and selling off the nook brand.

It's a joy using Moon Reader. I never got tired using it as a book reader.

My thought on them selling is not that they are getting rid of their revenue stream, merely protecting it from dead treebrick andmorter losses. I feel they doomed themselves by having apps cost3x what they cost in the android market. I don't think you will be disappointed with the 7plus if you have the money. If cost is the main factor the nt is still a good device that doesn't need to be rooted to enjoy using it as a reader or media consumption device.

I use this on my gtab 8.9 and I love it! You can hold up.to 5 books......when the next one becomes available you get an email to download it. Very cool!

The Nook app for android sucks. I haven't found a Library/Reader setup that works as well and as elegantly as the stock NT Library and Reader. I'm considering returning my Nook Tablet from CM10 back to stock+root, so I can have its slick reading system back. It's a pain in the butt to add epubs to the Nook App (they can be side-loaded to two folders on the device) and it doesn't read PDFs and CBZ like the stock NT did. So far I've settled on Comic Rack for CBZ(and CBR) and Mantano Reader, but they're considerably clunkier.

The best ebook reader on this tab has got to be no doubt the samsung stock ebook reader app from the HC version. I have ported the new apk file to my gtab 7+ ICS and it works really well..
There is a thread on tab 10.1 forum regarding porting of this. u guys can check it out if anyones interested. The stock app has good graphics especially for page turning and the page turn sound. kinda gives a real book feel. :laugh::laugh:

For whatever nook might be: Try Mantano Reader. Now with cloud and all customization features, missing with other readers. Even PDFs are customizable in size and colour. Night mode for everything, of course...

If anyone is interested, I love fbreader on my tablet and phone because it has all of the addons that I want like text to speech, you can access your calibre library from ykmour computer if you configure calibre to share, there's an app that syncs where you left off in your book so you can continue on your other device. The library isn't pretty like other ebook readers but the options rock & it's free!

Tried a few apps, but i found Moon Reader is the best.

My Opinion...
I have recently started reading light novels on my Galaxy Tab Plus and I have found two apps to be great ereaders, the first is Kobo Reader, I actually read on this app the most because it not only looks great, but if the epub has embedded images, it will display them as well. The second app is Fabrik Reader. This app is awesome! It looks great, synchronizes with dropbox, my only problem with it is that it doesn't display the embedded pictures.

I have both and use both and with the right apps have no problems...
It is a good product. Can do as much as you are willing to try!

Tintin, Video Editing, Powerpoint?

I've been reading a lot about the Note 10.1. Frankly, tablets are a luxury for me as I already have a decent desktop at home, and don't really like carrying more stuff than I absolutely need, when commuting 2 hours back and forth every day. And I already have the Note 5.3, which frankly is a little over rated for its s-pen integration.
But now I want the tablet, thanks to all the marvelous reviews and comments I've seen! One burning question which I have is games. I'm not a heavy gamer but there's one game which I really liked on the S2, which doesn't work on the Note: Adventures of Tintin. Can someone confirm whether this game can be installed and played in the gorgeous mode? Rather than the laughably ugly 2D mode?
Another question: how good is video editing on this tablet? I'm asking this in behalf of someone who's considering getting an ipad with imovie (spelling?).
Lastly, is it easy to create or edit powerpoint slides with the Note? Its fiddly on my phone, but I imagine it to be much better on a larger device.

I downloaded it to my Note 5.3, backed it up and side loaded it to the Note and it comes up saying, device is not compatible with this game. Please request a refund. So it would seem it doesn't work on the Note 10.1

Of course you can create or edit powerpoint as you like and its better on device have a big screen like Note 10.0 , and it come with Polaris Office preinstalled app , more easy

Yeah, you're right about editing ppts, it should be a lot easier on a larger screen.

Need Advice, please.

I have 500 bucks to spend and am hesitating between getting either the Surface or a nexus 7 + a chromebook. For those who have had some experience with those devices, what do you think would be a better way to go? I am honestly hesitating between the two choices.

The Chromebook really doesn't enthuse me...I don't completely think that its existence is justified yet. It depends how you consider the convenience of two devices vs one.
What are you planning on doing? Will you type a lot? Integrate the products into an existing Windows 8/Android phone ecosystem? Watch movies and videos? Games? Travel with it, or are they devices for home? Will you carry a Nexus 7 around alongside your Chromebook?
Personally, I'd look at the range of Atom-based Windows 8 Pro hybrid tablets. They get better battery and performance than the Surface RT, and have access to all Windows applications of the past. There's heaps from every OEM, and I don't know your exact price-point, so I can't really make a recommendation.

I don't agree re: the Atom systems providing better performance and battery than the surface. I've used an Atom Windows machine and it was a dog and the battery life was comparable to a PC.
I do agree regarding understanding just what you are going to use it for.
Are you a student? An office worker?
Are you watching movies? Playing games? Just browsing the web?
Are you going to need any Office document editing?
The Nexus is going to give you the best app ecosystem and access to Google Play books, movies, and music. The Chromebook is basically just an android tablet in a laptop form factor (with some limitations).
The Surface is more of a PC with some restrictions but doesn't benefit from the Google Play Store. It does have access to the XBox ecosystem but it is not as extensive as Google offerings (yet?).
I have Android tablets and an iPad and in the week I've had the Surface I have found the Surface to have more utility than any other tablet I've owned, but I look at things from a work standpoint. I don't play games or use "apps" on a tablet. I need them on my phone (which is why I have an Android phone).

Thanks for your input. I had the transformer prime but returned it because of a screen that went really bad. I am planning to go to school and was wondering which device (surface or chromebook) would help more on the go (I have a 17" Toshiba at home). I don't play much on my tablet but I like to watch movies on Netflix and videos online and browse the web. I am leaning toward the surface, I guess I am looking for assurance that I won't be disappointed.

That's an impossible assurance, but if this is for school, I think Surface is the way to go. They have a no-restock 14 day return policy. Worst case scenario, you can buy it, use it, and if you don't like it, return it.
Surface already has Netflix, Hulu, Kindle, and supports Amazon Instant Video via the web browser.

If you need Office, then get the Surface. I've tried just about every word processor/spread sheet app on android and none of them come close to the real thing. The Touch Cover and the way it's integrated is also vastly superior to any keyboard peripheral I've used on my android tablets.
If you do work with a lot of PDF's though be warned that right now you're pretty much stuck with converting them into office docs for now, the pdf reader that comes with the Surface barely has any functionality beyond the ability to open and read them, and there aren't any alternatives on the market yet.
As for netflix, hulu and web surfing it's all there. The Surface uses the desktop version of IE10 and as far as I know, it's the only new tablet to have flash support. Subjectively speaking I've found it to be just as fast as Chrome on Android 4.1.1, while I like the way Chrome renders some websites better, IE10 will always pull the desktop version of websites and does a much better job with animated gifs and embedded video.

I find the built in pdf reader more than capable. I work with large pdfs for work and with the options menu at the bottom I can search , find bookmarks, highlight and add notes. What else do you want from a reader?
The only other thing I need is a pdf driver to create pdfs on the go but that is a different app.

You're right, I was a too quick to judge and missed a lot of things that the stock reader is capable of doing. I'm used to using ez-pdf on android and that throws a lot of options in your face and was thrown off by the cleaner interface of the ms reader. I still can't figure out how to quickly get to a page though, and a night mode would be nice.

correct, chromeOS doesn't share app stores with android, so no apps aside for the ones built specifically for that OS (which is just a fullscreen chrome browser)
aside from the rock bottom pricing for a basic use computer, i don't see the point of the chromebook at all.

Best Comic Reader App For The Kindle Fire?

Right now I'm using acv and it's pretty good but it could be better. Every now and then it won't open something and sometimes the zoom changes randomly from one page to another.
Just want to know what other people are using really.

I've been rocking perfect viewer for the last few days. So much better than acv. The image quality is way better.

I have had good luck thus far with Comic Reader Mobile.

Kindle Fire Comic Book Readers
There are a couple of Comic Book Readers to choose from the Fire, for CBR and CBZ files, the best are ComiCat and Perfect Viewer. I recommend ComiCat if you are just starting out and Perfect Viewer if you want an extreme degree of fine-grain control and features.

Plus one vote for ComicRack, the best UI and quality

Hi, you could try ezPDFReader. It's a very good app that enables the S Pen with annotations. Besides you can edit the files.

ebook droid, Adobe reader, etc.

ezPDFReader is too heavy even for note 10.1. I have bought this app since the first time I saw it. I have bought Office Suite too. Better but not prerfect for me at the moment is Polaris office.
