I was wondering about rerooting after the OTA update. I found one thread for rooting but that was for leek 1. Just wanting to verify before I do some stupid.

ICS_root from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742879 should work.
OTA Rootkeeper seems to have worked for me.
I had Superuser do root protection but it only partially worked. Root could not add new programs. I rerooted using Leak # 1 method. Worked fine. Only issue is that Superuser force closes if you try to save the program permissions to sd card. Hopefully a future update to Superuser will rectify this issue.

Confirmed.... At least for me.
I was stock GB 2.3.6 rooted. Updated to ICS via OTA and lost root. Used that link above to regain root on ICS.
I was rooted on 2.3.6 and after the ICS OTA I lost root but still have Superuser installed. Is it ok to re-root over existing Superuser? Also what should be the USB connection type? Mass storage? Media Device (MTP)? Camera? Charge Only does not exist on ICS anymore.
Thanks
Jude

Reference to 2nd part of your question, I used MTP mode while rooting as indeed charge only mode does not exist. Hope this helps.

Just successfully re-rooted OTA ICS over existing Superuser. USB debugging on and connected as Media Device.

So I updated this week to GB 2.3.6 using Kies and the official update from TM. It deleted my root access. I have attempted to root it again using SuperOneClick, but that doesn't seem to be working.
Any other options to root?
What version of SuperOneClick? I have only heard of success with version 2.2
I am trying 2.2 now. I was using an older version.
Like the other 200 threads say... SOC 2.2 will root it fine. So will flashing a drhonk kernel using Odin.
I have used SOC on 4 sga4gs now and it worked on all of them.

i also face this problem.
when i use SOC, it stucked in step 7(sometimes stuck in step5 )
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032
Download stock+Voodoo-T959VKJ1.tar and use the directions listed in the thread.
Since you're on stock you'll want to use the ODIN version since you will not have CWM.
Will give you root and CWM Recovery back. I just did this on my sister's phone that she just picked up for free, so it was stock upgraded with KIES. Worked perfect.

Have you tried ViperMod option 1? it work?
If not, reply is easy: you cannot root ICS on TF101g at this moment!
You need waiting until some "gurus" find the new right way

I don't really remember how I did it but I have a B80 too and I can root but my problem now is that my tf does not see my SD card.
When I check with root check basic it says I have root access.

After using it a few days after I got it sent to me in November 2011 I found out I have a TW variant with serial BA0 and 8.6.6.10 ROM on it.
With Razerclaw I could get root (ASUS Appbackup exploit). Then without too much thinking I accepted an OTA update to 8.6.6.23 beginning of December 2011 -> root gone , and no way to get it back.
Until Februari 2012 when I really tried a lot: nacho did not work whatever I did, but vipermod prime 1.4 worked after many trials. First thing I did was installing the voodoo rootkeeper.
When I saw the ICS availability, i was hesitating to update, because I was not so confident that the rootkeeper would work and HoneyComb worked fine, but i took the risk and lukily it worked.
He guys i got a ques ...i have rooted my atrix 2...now if we get an ota update i cannot do it because i have rooted and maybe some files have been modified by sulercharger script or some other app....so it i clear my user data from the settings-privacy then will it remove my root and make my phone like stock new...i have never installed any custom rom

Wiping won't unroot I don't think, but root should not affect the update. You will lose it when you update, but there will probably be a way we can make some changes before the update to avoid that.
The supercharger script might be an issue but probably not. It should have an option to unsupercharge anyways, but you should be fine without it.
The update will check to make sure you have not deleted any of the bloat that is not removable without root. so if you have done that your best bet would be to fxz back to stock if it will not update.
Nopes....didnt remove any bloatware....ok so wont that brick my phone as uts rooted...i read somwhere in xda forum that an atrix 2 was soft bricked because the guy rooted
Normally if you are rooted and download and install an OTA update you will lose root. I always have. However, this handy free app has been tested and it says it will preserve your root if you OTA update. Check it out here: OTA Rootkeeper

that won't work for the ICS update. at least with the leaked international ones. No it won't brick you, you will just loose your root. If you wan't the updated to stay rooted, don't do it right away and give us a few days to figure out how to keep it.
Even if you did softbrick you could almost certainly fxz back to stock.
Thanx alot sir..... i wont update until an official update or till we get a fully working ics custom....no hurries
This is a method to root Atrix 2 running on Android GB(2.3.6) / ICS(4.0.4).

I had the issue the other day, on stock 2.3.6, I also saw that alterdlikeness had a similar issue as well. It was updating past the 3.03 on both su and Superuser.
I had issues on my A2 with 3.1 only, and it would just FC and not work. I had to remove and basically re-root, and leave it at 3.0.1.

You missed the point I was trying to make to those wanting to update thier binaries for su and superuser.... not new root exploits.
I just want everyone to know there are issues with 3.1... however today an update to 3.1.2 today has been proven to work for those having the issues that both alteredlikness and I have seen with FCs.

On Stock 2.3.6 rooted. The new updates to the Superuser app allow you to update the binary and use the settings now.
Updating thread for superuser 3.1.2 now..
This method works as stated today I was trying to update my su binary but update was not getting successful so I unrooted and rooted back using this method now everything is updated and running smoothly.
About to root my girlfriends phone to eventually install Lithium.
Coming from a AT&T Galaxy S2 so things are a bit different here.
Should I use this method or Jimmy's from this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327741
After that what steps do I need to take to get CWM installed so I can backup and install a new ROM?
Thanks thanks!

I think they are the same, except this one has a more updated version of superuser - I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
I personally have always used the one in Jimmy's thread and just update the superuser app and binary (and, thanks for reminding me about that post - I never thanked him until today - and due credit to p3droid & JRW 28 of course).
As for CWM recovery, just install the A2 Bootstrap app after being rooted. Use the bootstrap app - top button, OK, bottom button to boot into recovery.
Good luck to you and your girl!

Boom, was one setup ahead of you and just finished all that. Currently backing up in CWM and waiting for a painfully slow download of Lithium and we should be jammin. Can't believe how easy it all was actually.
So I assume since this CWM is loaded from an app there's no way to boot into recovery should a bootloop or rom failure happen? Is that something people worry about?
Thanks for your response bud.

The cwm on boot feature may already be included in Lithium (edit: yes, it it included - just checked)... if not, you can set that up rather painlessly. And, yes, some of us do worry about that very much so..

Are you on the ICS leak already? Are you on AT&T? If you are on the ICS leak and on AT&T there is a way to root it in the leak thread in the General section. I put the files back up today.
If not, I really am not sure, one of the guys on the other leaks might be able to help there.
I generally don't root my phones but I needed to increase the size of my SD cache so I rooted it.
I have read the threads on what to do if you have rooted and installed a new rom but I only did a portion of this process.
To root the phone, I followed the guide on this forum and completed the following:
Enabled USB Debugging and Unknown Sources (Phone)
Double-clicked "RootDebugfs" on PC with phone connected to computer using OEM USB cable. It ran to completion.
Installed - ez_unlock.apk and rom_manager.apk
At this point SuperUser was supposed to install but it didn't. I downloaded and installed Superuser, updated the Superuser binaries, and I was rooted. I confirmed this with Root Checker.
I never unlocked the phone with Ez-Unlocker
I never used Rom-Manager either.
I did install SD Speed Increase and increased the SD cache size from 128kb to 1024 kb.
Now there is a Verizon update that I should probably get. In the near future I will need to update to Jelly Bean.
What do I need to do to install these Verizon updates?
If you're rooted, stock recovery and not unlocked you can take any OTA but it will break root. But as far as I've seen you can root again.
If you're unlocked with custom recovery you need to flash back to full locked stock and stock recovery to accept OTA.

As long as u have stock recovery then just take the ota and re root. If u don't have stock recovery the gym flash it with ez recovery app. That's how I updated my phone this morning

You could also just wait until someone creates a flashable zip and flash through CWM or TWRP.
Thank you for the replies.
I did not change anything regarding recovery. I only did whats indicated in my initial post.
If I do the OTA update will I just root again using the same process I did initially?
If so, is that just "double-click "RootDebugfs" on PC with phone connected to computer using OEM USB cable and run it to completion."?
I appreciate the support provided and appreciate all responses.

Just be aware that it's not unheard of for the root exploit to get blocked in the new OTA. It doesn't sound like that has happened here, but just FYI. That's part of why the common mantra is to just wait for someone to post a rooted version of the stock rom... or go with a custom rom (shout out to CleanRom here).

Thanks a lot for the information. I'm sure I can handle that. I'm considering not doing the update and then either waiting for the Verizon update to Jelly Bean or find a Jelly Bean ROM and take that route.
Thanks again.
