[Q] JB not working with encryption - Asus Transformer TF700

When I upgraded my unrooted, encrypted TF700 to JB it froze and I had to do a factory reset. The reset automatically put JB on it and it worked again. Once JB was installed and working I tried to re-encrypt and it froze again. I now suspect that JB simply won't work with encryption on my tablet. Has anyone else had this experience as well? If so, have you found a resolution to this problem?
I value encryption more than the last upgrade to JB and if there's no fix to the encryption issue, then I would like to know how to roll back to ICS.

This also happened to mine and had to factory reset as you did. I have not attempted to re-encrypt and do not plan on it since each time it took so long to boot up and because I like quick access to my information and entering a pin everytime was slowing me down.

Wow, I had been planning on encrypting my tablet in the next day or two, so this is good to know.
I will post the results of my attempt. Hopefully you can get things working.

New 3.2 update bootlooping?

OK, weird one this. Downloaded the update with no issues, it installed ok, it went to android recovery and then rebooted after a few mins into my homescreen. All good! - Then after about 5 seconds it said shutting off.. it then went through the whole updating procedure again. Ok no probs i thought, it needs 2 reboots.. fine.
However it has now done this 5 times!! and counting..I guess thats not right.. so how the hell do i stop it? lol
edit: managed to get quick view of "about tablet" and its still showing as 3.1 so the update is not applying.. i wonder why?

Are you rooted? That would be why. It's not advisable to accept an OTA update when your system has been altered. Unlocked is ok, just not rooted/modded.
If you are rooted and have a nandroid backup from before the update, try to restore from there. If not, boot into fastboot and restore to your model's original stock image (from motodev) then let the OTA updates bring you up to 3.1 and then 3.2. Re-install CWM Recovery, and re-root after that with solarnz' Universal Xoom Root and go from there.
If you're not rooted and your system is just continually rebooting, you should still try the fastboot/restore stock images procedure. There may be something easier, but I'll let someone else advise you on that.
Good luck!
Appreciate the help. No i am not rooted but i certainly dont want to restore a stock image as i will lose everything! Its nothing that cant be restored but why should i go through the hassle after accepting an OTA update if it doesnt work!
Currently now on my 16th reboot! - Getting fed up now...
Any ideas on how to apply this update ok?.. or at least stop it! lol

I can't think of any way to resolve this that doesn't involve a wipe of some kind. Have you checked any other Moto/Xoom forums to see if anyone else had the same problem?
My condolences on the irritating situation and the potential loss of your stuff. Actually, a good reason to root is that you can back everything up!
Well i took the plunge and wiped by unlocking. Cured the bootlooping (obviously), and so then thought - why not root aswell
All done and running Tiamat 2.2 and very happy!
Appreciate the help peeps..

Type password to decrypt storage?

I've had my Nexus S for a year now and it's been pretty problem free... When it had Gingerbread it had the odd reboot glitch but since ICS it's been solid. I have the bootloader unlocked and had root. I had tried out a couple of custom ROMs and had gone back to stock ICS in anticipation of JB rolling out in July. I got the OTA push of JB in mid July and after a factory refresh have had no problems with the phone until yesterday.
I was typing a text message and my phone rebooted in my hand. It never did complete booting and left me at a prompt that stated "Type password to decrypt storage" and nothing would make this phone boot! Also, since the JB update I no longer had root and Clockwork Recovery no longer worked because I didn't have root... which I wasn't worried about up until now. I had to tether the phone to my laptop reset Recovery using the SDK tools and then wipe everything and reset the phone and reinstall all my apps. Funny thing is I've not been able to find much about this from any of the forums I read frequently... seems there aren't many who have experienced this.
Just wondering if anyone else has run into it...
it's happend for me too. i had to wipe cache and fixed.
Same thing happened to my Nexus S. I have no idea how it came into this "type password to decrypt storage" damned state. I'm trying all passwords and PINs I know but none is working! I'm trying to avoid a factory reset.... Isn't there a way to log in and override this thing, something like forgotten password in emails???
still no solution for this? i've wiped data and cache and still no fix!
I'm facing the same issue: woke up this morning to find my phone asking for a password in order to decrypt storage. Very annoying, since I don't have a very recent backup.
Running CM10.1 nightly 0210 with stock CM kernel. I tried reinstalling CM and wiping cache, but that didn't help. I'll see if I can fix it and and will repost here if/how I fixed it.

If you can boot into bootloader (fastboot), try to flash Google factory image.
untar (unrar/7-zip) the tar file and flash the update zip within. This should wipe everything including system.
Code:
fastboot -w update image-soju-jzo54k.zip

It seems that there is no other solution for this other than a wipe data/factory reset. It's the solution offered in a googleGroups discussion as well. (Can't post links yet, not enough posts...)
Luckily after re-installing ROM and gapps all my apps were restored, and I was able to extract all my pictures and some backups on the sdcard using the mount USB option in CWM. So no big data loss for me.
It's a strange issue though, and should've been solved long ago. First occurrence I found was somewhere in February 2012, that's a year ago!
HELP!
I just had the same thing happen to my phone. Can you please dumb down what you just said for me? The only part I care about is how to recover my pictures. I haven't done the factory reset yet as I've been trying every password I can think of and now see that it is a bug and not something I have done. Anyway, I have 3 gigs of pictures of my 18 month old that I will cry if I lose so if you can help me recover them I would really appreciate it. I have tried hooking my phone up to my computer in it's encrypted state and it does not register. Please explain what you did in simplified terms for me as I have no idea what ROM or CWM means. Thanks!

[Q] Getting new TF700T - best way to get JB optimized?

I'll likely be purchasing a new TF700T and Dock today, probably at Best Buy (they've indicated they'll match Amazon and such). I doubt it will have JB onboard, so will need to do the update.
Since I'm starting completely fresh with this device, I imagine the update is the first thing I'll do, so will have no data or other files, settings, etc. for me to worry about. But I've read here that some have needed to do a cold boot or a factory reset to get things working right with JB.
So - what is the optimal way for me to get my new Tablet working best with JB? Just do the update and get started, or a cold boot and/or factory reset after the update is done? Any particular steps or actions that need to be taken?
Thanks for the help.
I just did the update without having to factory reset and/or cold boot.

Thanks. I was also researching this at transformerforums.com and they have a protocol recommended to minimize the potential for problems, which includes a cold boot before and after updating the OS, as well as a Factory Reset as the final step. It sounds like possible overkill (although not harmful), and was just wondering if there were any consensus about an optimal way to do this for a brand new device.
Thought I'd get a "second opinion" here.
I did the update and then did a cold boot. No factory reset.
*shrugs*
On windows you reboot your pc after an install. (Usually. I never do...)
On Android you do a cold boot. It's the same process, except a regular restart on Android doesn't empty the memorycache.

Just bought it a couple of hours ago. Not sure exactly which numbers you're asking for, but here's what it says:
Build # JRO03C.US_epad-10.4.4.16-20120927
Plugged the Tablet in, it booted up and very quickly advised of a Firmware Update. I allowed this to proceed, but this wasn't the JellyBean update. The only setup I did was allow it to connect to my WiFi network.
I then checked Settings, System Update, and that's when it downloaded and did the JB update. Everything went smoothly. No problems.
So far I haven't done any cold boot or anything out of the ordinary. Guess it wouldn't hurt to cold boot now before I start testing it out.

OK, you already on JB. I thought you maybe lucky and still on .26, then I would recommend to save your bootloader with NVflash. Back to cold boot, if you have issue then you could try cold boot or worst case factory reset, but if you don't, it's not needed. This had happened to me after upgrade to JB, I did a cold boot and my table started to have randomly rebooted and blank screen issue.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy s3 roaming only, not activating

So I'm totally at a loss of where to go or what to even search for.
I have a verizon Galaxy s3 that I rooted and unlocked the bootloader on. I flashed a couple ROMs and now it won't connect to the network. It tells me it is in roaming mode only. I called verizon, but they said to just return the phone because it won't talk to their network.
I've read some things about "triangle away" and I kind of tried that. But it kept telling me that my flash count was 0 anyway. So it didn't do anything.
My IMEI and ICCID are correct to my sim card and phone. I originally flashed CM10 for the verizon s3 and it worked great for a few weeks. Then I tried a couple others and they worked also. Then I flashed the euroskank ROM, and that's when it no longer would connect. I went back to a previous nandroid, and still no connecting.
I don't know what the problem is, or what to search for, or where to go.
Should I try to install a stock rom. I know I keep seeing things about odin and installing the stock rom. Should I do that? That's something I haven't tried yet.
So, I tried reprovisioning the phone with *2767*3855#
And when I did that, it said sorry, your phone is not yet activated.
But I know it is, or, at least was activated. And when I call verizon they tell me it has been activated already. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of trying to go back to stock
Same Problem
Flashed CM10.1 nightly just to test it out and then boom, no more connection. On any ROM. Scariest part? I have gone through the restore process and am now back to an unrooted phone with out of the box firmware. I believe I will take it back to Verizon now and see if they will give me a new one.

So I don't know if we have the same issue or not. But I got mine working for now. Don't know if I'll run into problems later, but this is how I got it working right now.
First, I installed back to stock settings and radio. I followed the instructions in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709
I did the stuff in section 5. Including Flashing a Stock Radio. So I went back to the VRALG1 4.0.4 ROM.
And I did the I535VRLHE radio.
But it still didn't work. BUT, once in stock settings, I did the reprovisioning.
*2767*3855#
And then that finally worked, it went through, and my phone activated. So it works now. Hooray!
But I REALLY really want to know what happened. So I can avoid this happening again in the future. Can anyone tell me what happened, and why this fixed it? And how to prevent it happening again as a flash more ROMs in the future?
Also, SpecePatriot, let me know if that works for you. It'd be good to have more than one source to know that works.

I had the an issue with my phone stuck roaming and this method worked great! Only problem I came across was trying to run Samsungs update for Jelly Bean, Every time I attempted to update my phone would crash and go back to ICS. Luckily I had a back up so I wiped my phone, restored from my previous backup (which had Jelly Bean) and worked without roaming issues!
My input is if your having roaming issues is to use a backup you made before you had the roaming issue. Follow this tutorial above to get your phone back to stock, root your phone, then restore from your backup through CWM or whatever you are using.
I am not too sure what causes the roaming issue but I did notice while looking for networks, my phone found ATT ad TMobile haha.I am assuming what happened was that the Cyanogenmod update I was downloading automatically was set for another carry which changed my wireless settings. I will be downloading nightly's manually for now on lol
Thanks for this fix, Saved me a lot of time and aggression

My S3 is having the same issue after a CM10 modification. Reflashing to a stock ROM fails, wiping and reflashing fails, trying a different rom on cwm fails, no backups to flash to (all result in error). So I stumbled upon this thread, read about reprovisioning, and I took it to mean input the numeric code into the phone dialer. I did that, and nothing happened. Can anyone provide insight on reprovision and how to do it? Google search on reprovision isn't giving me any hints.
If the reprovision is just failing and I've been doing it right, does anyone have any other suggestions? Really hoping my phone isn't soft-bricked with no ability to call/text.

I have a galaxy note 2 on Verizon. This used to happen to me on CM 10.1 first stages but issue got fixed as the nightlies started. It only happened to me when I sometimes rebooted the phone or when the battery completely drained from 100-0% then when I would charge it and boot the phone it would show me an x and no signal bars. I would have to restore to a TW rom to get it to activate again but going into settings and switching to CDMA/LTE mode. Now I'm on ParanoidAndroid 2.99beta ROM and it still gives me that issue. Hopefully soon it will be fixed.:fingers-crossed:

Thank you buddy,
This helped me get my phone back in working order -- For those of you wondering why the "*2767*3855# is not working is because you are using the wrong flash. You must use "Official VRALG1 4.0.4" - and currently the link is down on the thread - I just googled it and found it elsewhere. I tried one of the other OTA's and it would not work. Also, do exactly as netskull described - even regarding the antenna. When using VRALG1 4.04 - The second i entered the last "hashtag (#)" it popped up another screen which helped get my phone working. I did not have to press send or anything. Kind of sucks that I lost all data on my internal card, but I DID back it up and now I will have to go through and restore. Since some people were wondering -- It did not mess with anything on the external card... It did unroot my device, however, so I will have to do that again as well.
For some reason, flashing the latest MIUI messed up my phone and put it in roaming all the time. Oh well, happy i got it working, and subscribed . Thanks once again Nertskull.

Please help, stuck in Bootloop !!

Recently I unlocked bootloader, installed twrp and succesfully rooted my device, but while I was tinkering with my device I accidentally wipe all data, partition, etc in TWRP now I guess I wiped out everything including OS !!!
How can I restore ? Do I need to flash new hammerhead image ?
Right now I'm following this tutorial

It'll be great if anyone of you can point me right way.
You can just flash any custom rom using this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575150
Or
Follow the thread you posted to restore a factory image..
But restoring a factory image will unroot your device..
You have twrp so the first thing you did was make a nandroid, right? Live and learn.
Thanks for the help, I just flashed new image. Everything works good except wifi, random drops + slow speed.
I contacted google for replacement and they send me RMA form. Unrooted the phone, bootlocker locked + flag reset.

Before rooting wifi problem was rarely occur now after rooting problem arise more frequently, now even after unrooting wifi is super slow sometimes not even connecting. I hate RMAing but seems like no other way.

You have twrp so the first thing you did was make a nandroid, right? Live and learn.

Awesome advice. I made a nandroid of my N5 first thing after getting all my apps straight. Playing with flashing a rom in TWRP I did a manual "wipe data" which proceded to wipe out the entire SDCARD in the process including my nandroid. Sooooo.... Yes, make a nandroid but also back it up to your computer or dropbox right away.

Don't RMA it, there's nothing wrong with the hardware. All you have to do is reflash the factory image. If you didn't know what you were doing, you shouldn't have been messing around with your phone in the first place. Reflash your phone back to its factory state and next time do your homework before you start tinkering. People like you are going to cause Google to change their return policy so that returns are much more heavily scrutinized.

You know how to read right ? also I did reflashed to stock image and unrooted + locked bootloader but problem persists, what do you propose I do now ? I started loving my phone now I'm getting new one, it's hard for me too, it's like adopting a son.
