Google Releases Android 4.1.2 Today - Android General

Was just reading through some articles on Mobile Syrup and came across this. Android 4.1.2 was released today for the Nexus 7, fixes some bugs and allows landscape mode to the default launcher.

Android 4.1.2

Will we receive android 4.1.2 or asus will just wait till android 4.2?
The only solution for now is to wait and see.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/09/...e-gives-nexus-7-owners-landscape-home-screen/
I don't think we will get 4.1.2 as we never got 4.0.4 before
I have no idea, but one thing I noticed in this announcement is that one of the improvements is the ability to rotate the Home Screen in landscape.
Just got my Infinity, and even the original Firmware had this ability, which was maintained in the JB update. I really like this feature.
Ironically, my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, also recently updated to JB (Stock OTA update) does *not* have the landscape rotation in the Home Screen, which is one of my few gripes with the device. Yes I know some third party launchers will add this, but often create other unwanted effects, so I haven't explored this yet.
I don't think they added anything that will enhance the experience on this device specifically.

On 4.1.2 they have added to the functionality of the notification menu. Instead of having to use 2 fingers to expand the gmail notification, for example, you just need to use one finger now. But they still haven't updated GAPLESS PLAYBACK for google music.
http://i.imgur.com/CnBTA.png Muahahaha? (But seriously, custom ROMs are great)

Is there an option that has to be enabled or something? I still need both fingers to expand/collapse notifications.
Features I'd like
I've no problem with performance or battery life... those are fine
The only features I want is:
Wifi-Direct back (why would they REMOVE a feature in a UPdate?)
Fixing the random freezing that happens on normal OTA JellyBean and Custom ROMS. You'd try to turn on the screen but it won't, forcing you to reset the tablet by holding down the power button, that's all I want. <<< most important
Getting the wallpaper to scale nicely in portrait and landscape outside the stock launcher app
Removing idiotic items from the settings menu, like the tethering options. This is a wifi-only tablet, so how exactly would you like to use tethering? Your asking a cart to pull another donkey...

I don't know. I think the 4.1.2 is for the Nexus 7 GNex for now. The update we just got was only 4.1.
what the hell, you only had portrait in nexus 7 up until this update? really?
thought whole purpose of tablets were to go landscape
way smaller phones go landscape...why not for a much larger device off break to do that??
apple would have called this an innovation though

Hm, maybe Asus is going to skip Android version 4.1.2 and they will release Android 4.2 (if google release it at 29. oct)
They had skipped 4.0.4, too.
But its only speculation

you can enjoy most of the main features of Android 4.2 jelly bean...
this zip contains apks from Nexus 4 dump (4.2).. which seems to work with 4.1 jelly bean as well...
Do you have any pics?
You need to disable gesture typing or the keyboard will crash if you type without swyping.
I hope this will be fixed soon.
The correct package

I don't want to blow the show or anything, but we can have this without any compability issues in a few days, when the source is out.
I will publish Android 4.2, built from source, with a new ELITE kernel, better wifi, bfq(group) etc., in a few days.
Just wanted to let the people know, who are waiting for 4.2.

Will that ELITE Kernel be 3.1 based? Your preview of the 3.1 kernel is really fast since it is using the updated nvidia drivers (and maybe some kernel based improvements)

I think it's a bit rude for people to come into another thread and hijack it with advertisements on what they are going to release. Maybe this OP does not have your experience level, but they are contributing to the community with what they can. I've seen many people get discouraged by actions like this. This is a place to share. It's the little things, there is nothing bigger.

Apologies for hijacking thread. You can check Rayman's github and see, I believe it is a hybrid of sorts. Again, please consult the experimental branch of his 3.1 source.

Nope, no sign, no smoke signal yet.....
Google replaced the Bluetooth stack in 4.2 and effectively destroyed Bluetooth on many devices. Google is now trying to correct the problem and have announced that 4.2.2 will be out shortly, whatever that means, and have a fix.
So I would think that no devices will be getting 4.2 for some time until Google works out its self-caused Bluetooth disaster.

I own a nexus 7 in addition to a TF700. It is running 4.2.1. The new Bluetooth stack brings back lag on streaming audio - particularly Neflix
There are partial fixes like occasionally clearing the cache on the Bluetooth service/software, and frequently restarting Bluetooth - but its a pain and it doesn't work well.

Right, and I am also not convinced that the new two-bar system UI is usable on a 10" device.
I also don't like the idea of the wasted screen space. On my Nexus 7 it's such a shame.
No thank you, I'd rather keep 4.1 with the streamlining updates Asus keeps sending us. For the moment 4.2 seems like a step backwards.

I would actually say that 4.2 is a step backwards.
4.2.2 is out for nexus devices. That means the bugs(Bluetooth and WiFi) in the the original OS got a fix so we could expect the update for asus transformer infinity in a month or so. Waiting desperately for it.
Why are you waiting desperately? What does it bring that you can't have now?

You can have that now with Switch Me if you want though.
The new multi user support creates lags when a second user is added. The fix? Remove second user ... Gotta love googles betas!
4.2 is a keeper for me, mainly because of Google's swype-style keyboard. It's excellent.
And I would definitely like the new UI that is on nexus 10. The new multi-tasking is kinda nice. I guess swiping the apps up or down is better that swiping them sideways to close them.

The stock ASUS keyboard also has Swype-like feature, admittedly it is nowhere as good as Google's 4.2 keyboard. Nevertheless, I personally don't like swype on tablets, since it is a lot more tiring on tablets, I have to slide my fingers on a very big screen. To me swype makes a lot more sense on phones.
You can't beat Swiftkey... and if somebody comes out with something that does, I'm signing up LOL

User complaints on xda, news releases, Google. Pretty well known bug. Not sure if it was fixed in the 4.2.1 update.

Swype beta is available for free.
It has a mode that displays a smaller version that floats so that problem is non-existing.

4.2.2 is out today for the Nexus 7, Nexus 4 was yesterday I think. Mixed reviews so far. People are happy with the responsiveness and smoothness but there still seem to be some issues.

[feature] real multitasking with multiwindow possible?

so i did go and do own build with multiwindow picked, and i was not too surprised to see when i tap other of the opened apps the other one pauses itself.(YES i know multiwindow is still not completely finished) but my question is are you planning to do it furher so i could for example. watch video on other half of my screen and use browser on the other half without interrupting video playback.

Actually its allready working quite good was able to run antutu benchmark while browsing xda on other half of the screenscreen which proofs both Windows were active and no interrupts happened.
HI,
@op : Its very good that you maintained the features what other users want but can u try and sync up with @XpLoDWilD and keep a track with what all features are currently used in the ROM so that we can know what all features and updates we are getting with each build.
I searched a lot but I couldn't find and thing like changelog,I know we can have a look at github commits but I am talking through a layman perspective. :good:
Thanks a lot for this beautifull ROM :good:
I hope you'll keep this feature !! This one of most important reasons why i'll try your AOSP rom ! You're the only guy to have this feature on AOSP rom of Note 2 !
Thanks !

I too would love a more comprehensive current list of features, just so I know what is and isnt there. And I am VERY excited about getting multiwindow eventually, that held me to JediX until last week, when I came to the dark side...

New UI for Android 12 on Pixel 3A

Hi.
I'm new to this forums.
I update my 3a to Android 12. But no any options for enable new Ui (looks like sand).
Please help me.
Thank you.
Android 12 is developing. Now we have betas, not every feature is expected to be on betas and developer previews

But that's _exactly_ what betas are supposed to be - feature complete and fixing the bugs. If they're still working on features, that's alpha code.

Android betas are like this. This feature isn't present on this beta, there are 4 betas coming in the next months. Technically the features are present but not to the public.
