[Q] Basic NEWBIE QUESTIONS

This is my second time playing with my phone and i hope this time i didnt brick it. I've just flashing my Xperia X10i from 2.1 eclair to Gingerbread 2.3.3. Flashing it using the Generic 3.xx download from this forum. And im glad i finally done it. Who cares... To the question.
1> What is ROM? Everybody talking about changing Rom, Stock Rom, this Rom, that Rom.. what is the meaning of ROM for android? Flashing Rom and Flashing Firmware is the same thing??
2> What is BASEBAND??
3> What is Generic Number?? Build number?? i've change flash my build number from 2.1.A.435 to 3.0.1.G.0.75 and my baseband version,kernel and Android version change along with it.

1. A ROM is the firmware, or Operating Sytem, of your phone. It's a package that contains the OS, drivers, programs and other odds and clods that make your phone work!
2. A baseband is a special package (kind of like a ROM) that controls the radios in your phone (cellular radio [phone part], bluetooth, WiFi etc.)
3. A build number is the version of the Operating System you are installing. Every manufacturer uses different naming systems for their builds, but usually the higher the letters/numbers, the newer the build. A new build will often contain a new baseband, and a new kernel. If you're lucky, you can sometimes even get a new OS version (as you did)!

pudding no root?
ok guys/girls I have been looking on here for a week and a half now but I flashed pudding and im unlocked as well but no root access obviously something i am not doing right. I thought pudding would give root but maybe not? I also have tried booting in recov. but then I can't find anything in there that says root or whatever.
I have the superuser app. dosent work as well as tita. says not rooted? It also says that a newer version is released and that it was put on my sd card but can't find it?
Any help is welcome or just point me to the right thread.

HELP!!?? No WiFi after flashing Kernel

Hello,
i just wanted to flash the Unity V9 kernel on my desire S.
I got an error during flashing "status 7" and i think its because my desire s is on android 2.3.3 and the Unity V9 only supprts android 2.3.4 and 2.3.5.
I just restarted my desire s und realized that my wifi does not work. In the wifi settings it sais "error" and i cant activate it...everything else works fine just the wifi not... I dont want to flash any other rom und want stay stock...
So please help me !!
What can i do to get my wifi working ?

Check your kernel version in the settings and download the same kernel from here and reflash with the same procedure

i found the right kernel nuber but the build number ist not listet there...my build number is 1.47.111.3 and there are only different build numbers...which one can i take? the 1.48.707.1 or the 1.36.481 ?

Btw which version of the recovery do you have and have you made a Nandroid backup before flashing?

Yeah it's a T-Mobile branded rom... Is there also a diffrence betwene the kernels?
Can't i use any of these roms u recommended to me?

As you say your build number is of the stock one so your kernel was not overwritten during the unsuccessful flash.
Have you tried to delete the remembered network and add it again?

The problem is not by the rememered networks... I can't even activate my WiFi !!! Thats the problem. When try to activate it, it sais "error"...so i can't activate it
What can i do now?
There has to be a kernel i can use or am i wrong?

No problem. I am glad that you sorted this out and I am sorry if my guidance on your other thread was misleading. I totally forgot that 2.3.3 is still the latest Android version on the Stock ROMs and the Unity kernel is updated for custom ROMs now.
I am afraid that it will be hard to find a kernel for 2.3.3, since most of the Custom ROMs are on 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 already. But maybe somebody else will provide some information or a download link if you still want to try.
Anyway, happy to know that your phone is good again

Rooting help needed badly

LG P920, Android 2.3.5
baseband L6260_MODEM_Sic_01.1042.00,
Kernel 2.6.35.7, build GRJ90,
SOFTWARE VERSION LGP920-V20c-APR-25-2012
I have tried rooting thru superoneclick 2.3.3 and tried Megatron_Root_Dan_Rosenberg
with superoneclick, stops at step#7 and with megatron, get the message ädb"is not a valid command.
can someone please help me with a step by step guide for rooting the v20c as i have tried umpteen times with the above rooting tools but failed miserably.
I am more of a noob than a seasoned campaigner, please be patient.

Megatron Root
Hi,
Megatron root definitely works.
It took me many goes before it actually worked...It kept saying something about files being "corrupt" (it was a while back so cannot remember exact details).
The phone would reboot a few times, and end up being the same and unrooted.
What worked for me was i did a factory reset, and then ran Megatron root again. It may have had something to do with the number of apps i had on the phone. It then finally worked.

This is a bit late, but adb is android debugging bridge, and is required to transfer files to root locations without su privilages. Adb is part of the android sdk and in the package of platform tools. To use adb you have to install it and configure it, look on youtube, then from command prompt you can us it.

Hi Schubeir,
CM7 is always a winner in terms of a good stable ROM, but you will lose the goodies that make our phone unique (3D as well as HDMI). Very fast and smooth, and because the ROM includes Theme Chooser, there's a huge selection of themes to choose from that will change your entire Android interface.
I'm currently using Promethius v1.3. Fantastic ROM...fast/smooth and keeps most of the stock LG apps. Feels like stock software, only much much faster and everything works! however, this version i dont think will work with your current baseband. you wont get and service if you flashed it.
Ultimately, there are many good ROMs to find in the Development section, so just have fun trying them out. whats good for me might not be good for you.
by the way, do you have ghost calls on V20C?

Did not wait long enough on V20C to know if there were ghost call issues!! the UI was behaving like stop n go n stop n go, lagging every now n then, hence wanted to root and change over to custom rom.
I need to have the 3D and HDMI, purchased this model only for this. I am at present using the DNA_GB 3.3.3 based on the new V21E rom. when i flashed the ThiaiZ O3D V2.7.1 GB.------ NO NETWORK!!!!!
Was it due to the 21D baseband in the ROM? do I then need to flash the 21e Baseband?
which do i flash first, the base band or the ROM?
Cant believe I am trying all this at the young age of 52!!!

OK Schubeir,
I had the exact same problem so no problems. Yes the baseband is what is causing the lack of network.
I know there is any easier way to flash baseband, but i found it quite easy flashing my phone back to a stock v21e kdz, and then flashing a custom ROM built using the v21e as a base. The reason for this is V21E is proven not to have ghost calls, so thats the biggest benefit. it also has much better battery life. And finally, you can flash Promethius which has all the stock goodies (3D, HDMI).
Follow this link and go to point 3 - LG Flash tool.

you must follow it step by step word for word or it wont work. Of course you will need to download the V21E kdz file...jut do a search and you should find it.
After flashing back to stock V21E, root again with Megatron, then flash ROM as you normally would. then flash GAPPS (google Apps) right away also.
Bit long winded, but its a one of and its well worth it getting your phone setup right. With Promethius, the phone runs awesome!

What is the difference between the Stock V10a and V10C?
What is the difference between the custom V10C and V10E?
Can the LG P350 Me still be updated OTA - I ask because I have tried and it just keep trying the server and nothing happens.
If you root and install stock firmware, can you then still use Google Play?
If you root and install custom rom, can you then still use Google Play?
Can I overclock the phone's CPU without updating the firmware or installing custom Rom, but only root it and install some kind of app?
Hope an expert can answer this

For me a custom ROM is way better than stock.
No differences bro. They depend upon countries( v10c,a,e) and also, to install ICS/jb ROMs you will need a v20 baseband or a baseband fix
OTA depends upon the ROM you choose.
In both cases you will and can use Google play.
Yes you can over clock using app such as SetCPU. However it is a paid app.

[Q] XBSA v8/vR3D ROM - ppl calling me hear themselves

as I'm not yet allowed to post in the "[TUTORIAL][P920/P925][ICS v30A/v30C] A Noob's Guide to XBSA v8/vR3D ROMs with AC!D" thread from the dev forum I will ask my question here.
First: thanks for the great ROM! love it! finally makes my LG3D use- and enjoyable again!
Second: Since I installed this ROM I keep getting told from people that they hear themselves when they talk to me on the phone. (echo)
Anyone else has similar problems? Do I use the wrong baseband?
Some phone info:
Android version: 4.0.4
BB version: OMAP4430/XMM6260
Kernel: 3.0.21
Build number: XBSA ICS 3D ROM V8 with AC!D
Software version: P92030a-EUR-XX

I have not had this echo thing happen to me, but my guess would be baseband.
See part 2M for baseband info. If you are using xbsa v8 you want the 28bROOT_CP.fls baseband, and, the P925_CP.fls for vR3D rom. SORRY..I just noticed an error in the instructions... basebands are .fls files You flash them just like the .bin, but realize it will say 'fail' at 150 seconds or so. This only means the flash was successful... basebands are like that in LG Flash Tool. You can check your baseband after flashing it in System Settings/About Phone in Software Information.
If that doesn't fix it, you may need to try a baseband for your country (found in the baseband thread I linked in part 2N).
