Strange issue with POWERAMP - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

so I don't use the stock music player but ever since I got the phone while using power amp to play music something it makes a weird ERHGHGHGHGH noise like a CD skipping. I tested it out on stock music player and it never happens. a few times poweramp couldn't find my music (located on SD card).
Could this be related to power amp or maybe an SD card issue? I'll listen to stock music and see if i have it happen but I haven't had it yet.

It could be power amp pulling for more ram than you have available. Try clearing your unused processes and see if it helps. If not it could be a setting on power amp. Also, are you running any kernels/ROMs? And I don't think power amp has been updated for jelly bean yet. I don't k ow for sure but i could be wrong.

I think I'm good on ram but I could see that being possible. I'm running SYnerygROM r68 with leankernal 0.7 but I've had it happen on stock also. I also have the original root method so Idk if that makes a difference

Try clearing the data from it and reinstalling see if it works.

Try increasing the size of the audio buffer:
Poweramp settings -> Audio -> Advanced tweaks -> Audio buffer size
Also, have you noticed any trends with this sound? And have you skipped backwards to see if the sound plays again? I've noticed that songs downloaded via torrents on a cellular data connection often have glitches

thank you, this actually seemed to work. at least after a few songs of testing. No, it's not an issue with the songs (totally random, works fine on google music/stock player)

Anyone else have horrible music playing experience?

If I use the stock player, which seems nice, as soon as I enable an EQ, I get this terrible effect that sounds like it's being over compressed. It happens with all the eq settings, and even custom.
I stated using Mixzing and it's a great player, the eq is awsome, but when I play songs it skips all the time.
That's odd. Mine doesn't seem to suffer from any compression with EQ use.
I don't actually use EQ but i have some poor experience playing music at times.
Sometimes when I'm listening to music through the headphone port and the phone does something (receive a text message or just use data or something) there are audible pops and clicks in the audio. Once the phone is done doing what it's doing they stop
I experience the same small pops and hesitations when playing music. Mine occur both from the speaker and the headset jacks. Sometimes I can play an entire song and have no noise, but most of the time it occurs a couple of times during a song. Very annoying.
Mine doesn't do that either. Good for me I guess, but odd.
I also have noticed the same issues. Especially when there is an incoming call. Granted, IM not stock, running cog 2.1.5

Yeah, I get the crackling noises too, but haven't noticed whether it's only with mixzing or stock player.
same issue here with the stock player AND mixzing. others have said that apps running in the background cause this issue but I tested that by killing everything in the background first and the issue still occurs. I know that android will auto-start stuff it needs but if the stock apps kill the music quality, then they have more fixes to release.
Weird, when I get a notification my music stops completely just to play my tone... is this normal? Any way to disable this? Hell I didn't even know stock player had EQ adjustments, where do I find them?

Bluetooth playback is when I notice the most distortion. I don't bother with any kind of EQ.
I get clicks and pops from all headphones, anything I connect the phone to, car, stereo, anything connected to the headphone jack.
I've tried and listened to music using all of these and get clicks and pops from all of them.
Stock player
MixZing
Cubed player
Tunewiki
Meridian
The player from Cyanogen mod
Pandora
Last.fm
Astro player
Every music player app I've tried clicks and pops, pauses and stutters. It does this no matter the encoding of the file, no matter the source, it clicks and pops and clicks and pops. It's worse than the cheapest mp3 player I've ever owned and frankly, I wish I could return this phone to AT&T but I'm past my 30 days. I really expected some updates, real updates for the GPS which is why I kept it past the 30 days. I thought the clicks and pops were a fluke, but to this day, GPS sucks and the music player clicks and pops. It's beyond annoying and if I could return it, I would.
Earlier today the GPS had me in Bakersfield, CA, over 2,000 miles from where I actually was. 2,000 miles!
And no, the explanation "it's a phone, not a gps or a media player" is not acceptable. These are features we pay for as customers. And a fix for these issues means I don't have to screw around with custom ROMs and settings and hacks and blah blah. It should just work, period.
Click click.. click click...
Yes, I get clicks and pops and stutters, yes I do...
...and yes, I've tried all the various buffer options in the MixZing app and am using the full PAID version, PAID version of the app. That would be the media player I bought because the stock one that comes with the phone can't read playlists created elsewhere. If you have even a moderate music collection it's absurd that the damn stock player can't read a standard playlist file and users would be expected to create all their playlists on their device. Ridiculous.
May I suggest you try two things and see if it helps:
1. Try a lag fix if you haven't already
2. Download SetCPU, lock the cpu at 1GHz and try music
I'd be very interested to see if either of these would help, have you tried factory resetting or a new ROM?

[Q] Equalizer/Audio Booster

I am currently running AOSP CM7 Mod (Gingerbread).
I am looking for an equalizer/audio booster besides the DSP which comes with the ROM. DSP actually does boost audio, but results in extra noise being added randomly.
The other option would be for those CDMA Hero owners who are running DSP successfully - could you suggest any optimized settings? Everything I've tried hasn't worked.
Try power amp music. Search for it on the market. It might be what your looking for.

Searching for that app I found another one called "Equalizer" which works great as well, plus it can be used as a widget for easy adjustments.
Just another suggestion..

I have been using the DSPmanager on my cm7 rom for a while. I found when I turned up any one of the fields past 5 then my audio output becomes choppy and sometimes my phone becomes nearly unresponsive. I try not to turn up any field past 3 or 4. The higher you increase any field the more resources your phone uses. I have also heard talk in other threads about your CPU speeds could affect audio playback. You may experience noise or blips if you min CPU speed is 176 or lower. Once I made these changes I stopped having problems with my phone not working properly. But I do get occasional pauses or stuttering.
I wonder if your SD card speed could affect your music playback. I get short pauses occasionally during playback and I'm not sure if its related to the DSP or SD card or what. Or could it be the format of my SD card is fat32 instead of an ext file format? Has anyone else had this problem?

[Q] Major static when using Equalizer app

I installed Equalizer and was happy with it, until last night. I've eliminated the headphones and the Note itself as the culprit. (Headphones work fine on MP3 player, and audio sounds great from speakers. Also, initial "Samsung" startup sound is fine through headphones.)
I'm getting A LOT of sort of squeaky static when using Equalizer, either with Music Player or Video Player. The static doesn't start right away, but after a minute or two. I REALLY like the way the audio sounds with Equalizer (minus the static), so I'd like to keep using it. But it's unbearable the way it is. I poked around in the Equalizer settings, as well as Music Player settings. I've got my Music Effects set to Equalizer. I have no other sound effects app running.
Also, I can't seem to disable Equalizer. I force stop it, and it keeps coming back to appear in my notification area. Can't find a setting for that, either.
Anyone else have any issues with this app?
Thanks!

Just noticed the same issue myself. I'm not 100% sure it's because of Equalizer yet, though... still have to do a few more tests. But it does seem to be the likely culprit.
I know what you mean... I really like Equalizer, so I'd love to be able to use it, but I think the static problem would be a deal killer for me if the app turns out to in fact be the cause of the problem. I'm especially choked since I JUST paid for the full version, like half an hour before realizing the problem!
BTW, for what it's worth, I'm using an Asus Transformer Infinity.

Just so as to not tarnish the reputation of Equalizer, I've now come to the conclusion that the problem is NOT in fact the Equalizer app. It happens with or without Equalizer running, and regardless of whether "Music effects" in settings is set to the stock option or Equalizer.
What I just found out today is that the problem seems to be related to playing of media off of the microSD card. When I play a movie off of the microSD, I get that buzzing sound. But when I play the exact same file off of the internal storage, it's gone! I guess this is a sign that there's some interference being generated by the microSD port that isn't properly shielded. Lame, since I was using the strategy of keeping all my movies on a microSD card (and a strategy I'll now have to change), but at least it's resolvable.
Try another SD card. I also keep the media files on the SD card and I have no problems .

I have a Samsung Galaxy A8, and when I play mp3s I get weird static sounds and popping noises, I also experienced this on the Samsung Galaxy S8. However when I would play the same song through YouTube on my phone I wouldn't get the noises. After reading this thread and trying all the different suggestions to no avail I thought to myself hang on I'll try and play an mp3 on my (Samsung Galaxy Tab a 10.1. SM-T580) To my surprise no static or popping noises. I am not sure as to why this is however I thought I would mention it for you or other people to work out a possible workaround.

Q - Mp3 playback skips in custom roms

I noticed mp3 playback will skip (best way I can describe it, sort of similar to the old old cd players being bumped while playing) on custom ROMS. Happened on Miui.us v2.12.28 and Avatar 2-Feb-2013. So I rolled back to stock I727UCLF6_I727ATTLF6 and imagine my surprise that mp3s playback with no skips at all.
I'm totally lost, not even sure what to try next. I even looked at the debug monitor during playback but nothing seemed obviously unusual.
Anyone else run into this problem?

Did you flash any audio mods or anything like that when I ran miui for short period and avatar didn't have issue with mine... did you wipe dalvik and cache in music player then reboot
My audio skips in the Google Play Music 4.5.910I.560208 (latest).
But not like op's, it just like's to skip to next song when there's 30s-1:30m left of the track :S Not always but 3 out of 10 times.
No audio mods at all. Even noticed this after flashing avatar.

I have noticed if I use a different CPU govenor the skips become less frequent. I went from power save to conservative.

I've never got this but you could try poweramp and set the audio thread priority to ''Large +250ms'' under Audio>Advanced Tweak

[Q] Music Enhancer constantly crashing when listening to music

So I just got my one no more than 3 hours ago, been setting it up and just put my SD card in. Went to play some music and after about 4 seconds Music Enhancer crashes. This just keeps happening until i stop listening it music, even if i'm not in the music app. I've tried deleting the app folder in Android > Data, disabling all download options in settings, then clearing cache on Music Enhancer. After a reboot, it still happens. Has anyone run into this?

I've run into this too, but with my M8 on Sprint. I haven't found any solutions yet, though. Anybody?
Yup!
I have the same problem here.
Unfortunately I have still not found a solution. I've just disabled all the music enhancer functions which has stopped it, but i'd really like to get the album art downloader working. I just don't understand the issue....
Are you all using SDCards? how much music do you have?
64GB SD here, with about 2,000 songs. Maybe it's being overloaded?

Yea, I'm using an SD card. 32 GB with 14GB of music on it. Not sure the song count, though.
