New Baseband question (MARCH) - T-Mobile LG G2x

So I've been using G2x with July 15 baseband on canadian mobilicity network(wind variant of g2x)
and it's working pretty good except that MMS doesnt work
However if i want to use new ROMs (Singh UI..etc) I gotta have the new baseband for tmobile...
can I just install the baseband or would it have problem with mobilicity network?
or is it impossible for canadian g2x to get the new baseband update?
thank you

The baseband can't be installed separately with any of the P999 tools and don't use any P990 tools such as smartflash because it will brick your phone's partitions and baseband. The T-Mobile basebands work perfectly on WIND so they should work perfectly on Mobilicity too but you have to flash the .kdz file which will install the baseband, kernel, and ROM then you can install a different kernel and ROM which is compatible with the installed baseband.

No, you can't use CWM to flash the baseband, it won't do it. You must use either the LG updater which won't work for the WIND Optimus 2X because LG didn't supply any updates in Canada or the offline update method for the LG-P999/G2X which will work with a .kdz file.

Did you use the offline update? If you had, that wouldn't have happened because the offline update method uses an http server on your own computer to intercept all of the server communication to the official LG update server and enable updating of the phone which has any version of firmware running on it.

The newset baseband for G2X is 15-3-2012.

I flashed the new March 2012 baseband and now my gps doesn't work anymore. It stays stuck at "searching for gps signal." The thing is I don't remember what I was using before, the March 2012 or July 2011 baseband. I'm assuming July 2011 and the change could've caused this issue. However, shouldn't the new baseband be an improvement on GPS signal and whatnot? Anyways, looking forward to hearing some advice before I try to downgrade back to the March 2011 baseband.

If you have flashed leaked baseband "LGP920AT-00-V18a-AMA-XXX-OCT-28-2011+0_CP.fls" it is recommended to flash new v21a.kdz rom(kdz include new European baseband) or wait for new baseband in *.fls file

Well, i am just saying that because you forgot to mention that they lose root by doing so. The question is if it is easy enough to root it with the latest LG firmware since that is not automatically the case.
and also... noone has confirmed any change between the leaked baseband and the v21a. As far as i'm concerned it's just a matter of 0 and 1. Either u got signal or you don't. But correct me if im wrong

Baseband effects all radio services quality AFAIK. And there are some feedbacks that new baseband provides better signal strenght etc.
Can't somebody "rip" the new baseband and post it? My phone drops connection once in a while since flashing the leaked.

Would also like to know if we can just flash the baseband, Im quite happy with my ROM as it is with the leaked version but I would like to get this improved baseband.
Would that be possible to get the baseband from that?

Trying to update with the lg tool

Has anyone tried to flash back to their old froyo rom then update to the new gb version? Itried but no go it says that I have the lates version it. It must be picking up on something deep in the hardware maybe because of the baseband anyone got any ideas ?
You cannot do it as the tool checks the baseband to see what update to give you. If you have the new baseband no update for you via the updater.
Dunno. The updater on the PC told me it could update my phone when I checked with Tsugi installed. Was afraid to actually let it run though as i did not want to risk creating a brick.

As stated, does not matter which rom you have, it looks at the baseband. If you already have the July baseband it will not resend the update. You can not change the baseband by flashing a rom.

Odd. I have July baseband, and it scanned the phone and said that it had a newer version to install, when I stopped it because I did not want a brick. I am not saying that they are actually pushing a newer version... I'm saying maybe the update tool itself has changed and/or is willing to update the Rom based on different criteria - perhaps since it does not recognize the L95G firmware which is what I'm using, for example?

Custom roms for the G2X don't touch the baseband, so even if thats true its a moot point.

The actual L95G device, which has never been released, does have a different baseband. But P999 roms based on the L95G rom have whatever baseband that was on the phone when the rom was flashed. Either March or July baseband.

Flame if u like but i need info lol

So to get started i got a LG Optimus 3D which had optus branding (Australia) and i had to change baseband to a latin one i think to use 850mhz 3G on Telstra i think it was 920h what i was wanting to know can i flash a stock GB rom through clockwork if i can what one will i need to get to keep my 3G? Go there and go to the Australian firmware list get 20B gingerbread and install it via the kdz flash method so that you get the baseband for it. Once you have done that you want to get a pen and write down your vpn settings...
Then just flash any rom and re enter your vpn settings back onto the custom rom and your set...

Basebands can't be flashed via ClockworkMod.
You'll need to flash a gingerbread baseband with the LG Flash Tool.
A guide is HERE.
Once you do that, you can install ClockworkMod after rooting with SuperOneClick.
If you can't root with SOC, then use the Megatron Root in the same thread linked above.
And lastly, once rooted, use Recovery Manager to flash ClockworkMod.

I've got a similar problem.. Lucky Aussies.
I've been using 2.3.5, Baseband L6260_Modem_Sic_01.1042.00, Software version LGP920-V21e-Apr-19-2012
The phone gets reception on the highway, but not near the house. My suspicion is that it is connecting to 2G only..
I'm currently testing JellyBam-4.1.0_p920.STABLE.zip...
Great phone, but the lack of support (upgrades) from LG especially in Australia is annoying..
Any great ideas people?
Cheers
Michael

The phone can be relocked by carrier OTA, but the chances of this being done are zero.
Also to OP. How are you planning on updating your baseband? It cannot be updated except by LG Updater where you flash an entire rom or the KDZ tool, which also requires you to flash an entire rom. Flashing the baseband only is not possible at this time on the P999 version of this phone. Don't use the P990 tool to flash a baseband as the chip is different and you will render your phone a tablet with no radio.

None of the G2X/P999 phone updates will relock it.
The G2X/P999 baseband cannot be changed by itself, it can only be changed by applying the full update which includes the kernel, operating system, baseband, and RIL that is contained in the KDZ file provided by LG or T-Mobile or other cell-phone service provider/carrier and installed through using the official LG Updater or over-the-air (OTA) by T-Mobile, etc. There are posts in the G2X forum with instructions about how to update the G2X/P999, do not use any updater and/or KDZ file for the Optimus 2X/P990. Here's my instructions:

You actually don't have to update the baseband just for that rom there's a zip similar to owains that makes new roms work on the old baseband.... Get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714536

ICS working on P920h

I got ICS to work on my P920h (Brazilian carrier - TIM). Here's how:
Download and flash xbsall's ICS using the instructions found here, with the following differences:
On the LG FlashTool Guide link, it says "select only *.bin file" (step 13 from the second post). To make it work on the P920h, you have to select XBSA404_AP.bin from the RAR you just downloaded and V20A_00_LGP920H_CP.fls from the ZIP you can download here.
You can add them both to LG Flash Tool at the same time (in any order). In case it doesn't work, try flashing both of the files from xbsall's RAR and, when completed, flashing just the V20A...fls.
I used the P920h.dll from the page indicated in LG Flash Tool tutorial.
Don't mind the error messages... once you hear the USB disconnected sound from MS Windows, you can detach the cable and turn on your phone.
Thanks to xbsall for porting ICS to P920 and tiagoclc for making the P920h baseband available.
Good luck guys!
According to xbsall, this method will work for rooting. I haven't tried it yet.
Can you please put a walk-through Video. Thanks
I'm from Brazil too, but I have the european version. I got an error when flashing, at about 28%, did yours flash just fine?
Thanks for the heads up. Got it running on my thrill now.... with cell signal... Taking a step down 2 3g put it ok... wifi seem to be real fast... now just need root and cwm... and maybe alittle oc and this phome is golden....

Do you mean the P920 version? Have you used the p920h.dll? If so, maybe that's not the best approach.
Also, I don't know if the Brazilian baseband will work on your device.

Do you mean, in Settings / About phone / Software Information?
Because mine still shows Baseband version XMM6260, but my cellular network works now.
Which one of the methods did you use? Both .fls and .bin from xbsall and then V20A or xbsall's .bin and V20A .fls?
If possible, please try the other one.
Also, if you continue to have the problem, please specify your model (P920, P920h, P925), country and carrier, so we can help you find a solution.

I guess Claro's and TIM's networks use the same frequencies... that's why it worked on my phone (TIM).
Have you booted your phone after flashing xbsall's .fls? Maybe you don't need V20A.
If not, you should try to find a Gingerbread baseband compatible with your carrier, in .fls format.
is the v20A the newest for brazil?
im never sure because of ghostcalls
-> strangely v20A baseband is the only one that gives me 3G here in europe,
but i want to avoid ghostcalls, so, does anybody know, if there are newer basebands for brazil/south-america?
i read somewhere that v20A still had ghostcalls back then...

I Tried both ways , but none worked for me. I'm getting no signal with xbsall's .fls and 20A .fls ... and my old rom was with 20A from vivo
I am also from Brazil. I installed the ICS ROM but my mobile network Claro works only on 2G. Someone could just install the *. fls? I could not, progress is not moving.
Now i got signal ... but i keep losing it every time.

As it is a beta version, and it was designed for South Korea, we can't guarantee anything. You'll have to try it to see.
I suggest using LGExtract.exe to extract the .fls from a Gingerbread KDZ you know to be working on your phone/carrier (V20A, V21E, whatever). Flash the extracted .fls baseband and see if it works.
