[Q] CM9 nighty and CM10 ?? - HTC Sensation

I've noticed on the CM website there are nighty builds for CM9 being released relatively frequently. My question is that are these more advance than the stable CM9 releases? Or are they beta builds for CM10? If so, why aren't they labelled CM10?

That's because there not cm10. They haven't even started to release one build so they won't be.
Nightlies are more stable then the stable build
Your so called stable build is just a label. It's just another nightly

Thanks for the response. Why do u think they are just labels rather than proper stable releases?
Is there a change log anywhere so u can see what new features have been added or fixed?

Fair enough.
I think I will just go ahead and update to the latest version of CM9 then in the hope that battery life improves.

Why don't you just use one of the custom cm9 roms there better
Sent from my Sensation using Tapatalk 2

Two reasons I think. Both of which make me sound like a wimp by the way.
I don't want to venture away too much from aosp and I don't have the technical knowledge to see what the main differences are with the variations.
Also because I've only installed two roms, both have been CM ones and I'm too cautious to try something new!

There's like nothing wrong in trying in the other roms. If something is wrong with them then just restore your backup
Sent from my Sensation using Tapatalk 2

True. I just don't like having to install all apps again etc. Plus all of my apps are installed on my SD card (the ones that allow anyway) so I hate having to format my SD card to get rid of all unnecessary stuff (I'm ocd about that!).
I will start being more experimental I think though. Its the only way forward!

ROM Toolbox Pro or Titanium Backup works pretty well in restoring non-system apps across ROM changes but not sure how it handles apps moved to SD card.
If you restore ROM from nandroid backup, it will be like nothing has really changed. It's worth trying different ROM's given different optimized ROM's and even different kernels are out there. Or Bruce CM10 which is pretty awesome.

I've heard nothing but good things about Bruce's ROM so I think I may head over there. One of the things stopping me is that there are so many updates being released for it all of the time I feel I should keep waiting!
Thanks for all of the advice guys.

Updates are awesome. I could hardly notice difference between updates but I like keeping my phone updated.
Best thing you can just flash new update on top of whatever you have no need to wipe even cache. Totally effortless.
If it fails, flash previous ROM.

I wasn't aware it was that easy. Thanks for the information. When I get time I am definitely gonna give it a go.

I have one more question please.
So if I want to update my current version of CM9, which is the most recent stable version, to the last version released, which is a nightly build - do I have to wipe everything (phone, cache etc) or do I just flash the rom and that's it?
Many thanks once more.

Wipe Dalvik and Cache only, then install. (You might not even have to do that, but I don't know if the CM9 install scripts wipe those for you.)
When it boots everything will be just like you left it.
That's ONLY if you are upgrading to the newest Cm9 build.
If you want to go to any CM10 builds do a full wipe first.

If everything is going to be as I left it (apps, settings etc) I will try the latest cm9 before I try cm10.
Many thanks.

Though all the features are working on his build now, if there are small bugs that may or may not happen then it's not completely a release candidate yet

Cyanogenmod 7.2 kang (built 1/20/11)

Alright, I noticed you guys haven't seen a nightly release in a while and since I made this for a friend of mine and even gave it to my brother, I figured everyone should have it too. This is basically Cyanogenmod 7.2. No, I will not build CM9 for your device, and I probably won't end up maintaining this release (I might, not sure.)
The Rules:
Don't report bugs, this is a nightly also I am sure bugs will be picked up already. Treat this as any CM nightly. Wipe before flashing (unless coming from a previous pure CM build and even then, wipe cache and dalvik.
Instructions:
Download > Wipe Data, system, dalvik, and cache. > flash > enjoy
Download link:

Gapps:

Enjoy guys.

not to gripe, just purely sharing my experience
the shift has problems making and recieving calls. No audio is the problem. A restart solves it, but it comes back at its leisure. Another problem is that the time doesnt stay synched with the network. I flashed using Clockwork and Twrp. I made sure to wipe x3, and i reDL'd the rom x3 already aswell. Everything else seemed fine.

Message from AT&T to update Rom! rooted, unlocked bootloader

Ok people, Here is a couple of Questions for you. My AT&T One X is rooted with an unlocked bootloader however, I am running a stock Rom. I just started getting this AT&T message that is giving me the option to update my software. But! It gives me a choice of 1, 2, 3, 5, and 8 hours to remind me if I do not do it now. If I let the update happen, will it crash my phone? Will it take out my root? Permanently ?? I am afraid to update because I have been reading that AT&T has been trying to fix their back door.
Also, How can I stop the reminder from coming back???

If you haven't installed an custom recovery you would need to with this tool.

Getting links.
Then CleanROM 2.5 SE (stock debloat performance and battery mods)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26119274
Or CleanROM Lite (very slim speedy rom mostly everything stripped out install own apps from market)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27048708
And then kernal from (general consensus is 1.82 is the best for performance and battery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26933428
And finally a radio from (will have to try them and find out which works best for you with data speed and signal)

I will do that. I have to get up early for work so I will be back on tomorrow night. One last thing though, you said to flash the Rom then the Kernal? I thought the Kernal came first.
Oh and what if I flash the Kernal without updating to the new Rom? The reason I'm asking is that My wife has the same phone However hers is Rooted but not BL un-locked. so if I flash just the Kernal would it work? Then, would it solve the AT&T reminders to upload their Rom?
Sorry for all the Questions, Gary
These kernals are recovery flashable. Meaning from CWM so ordet doesn't matter, technically the Rom will flash a kernel, but some users say one is better than another so just throwing out options. I don think there is a way to get rid.of.the notification unless you could.freeze the updater app with something like titanium backup, or go custom Rom route.

I want to thank you for the recomending this Rom it all went in beutifully! I ended up flashing my wifes phone also.
Today AT&T sent us messages that stated that there would be no more reminders and that if we did not choose to update they would update anyway. So I shut down the phones until I got off work and took out our access cards then turned off Wi-Fi. Finnally when I could this afternoon I started flashing.
Nice, I'm glad it worked out for you. CleanROM lite is nice too, if you want a leaner Rom.

I found my original nandroid from just barely post unlock/root, and restored it. I'm on 1.7x and would like to stay that way if at all possible.
Does anyone know what to freeze in TiBa in order to get this to stop? I just want to stay on stock/rooted for right now.

So if I have 1.73 rooted with bootloader unlocked. Can i just install clean rom to update to 1.85? or do i first have to update? If i have to update first is it better to use the Peter's guide post or can i just use bootkeeper and to the ota update?

Battery life will never be something someone can tell you is "good" as it all varies by individual, phone, kernel, running processes, apps, etc.
I don't really know now to answer your question. It's all opinion which is "better".
That's what nandroids are for. Flash both and see which one works for you.

On synergy I had a lot of FC errors and my wifi would randomly drop. I haven't read anything of others having that issue on the forums but each new release I would flash that. I guess I was just more used to Beans, although I loved the amount of customization and theme options of synergy. Also the fast charge option that came with the kernel built into build 9 of beans was a big plus.
I'll promote synergy
Started off with earlier versions of bean
Loved the 50gb Dropbox but have found synergy to be phenomenal
Plus they've added a feature where they back up your imei when flashing the rom, jury's still out on whether it's 100 percent effective in restoring imei without the roaming problem

[Q] What should i choose? PA or stay on CM?

Hi! I'm new here, but i am a bit experienced in stuff...
Anyway, when i got my Tab 2 7.0, i did flash it to Cyanogen. Now, i am on RC2
Now, i am stuck on a question: "Should i get ParanoidAndroid 3+ or stay on CyanogenMod?"
I *can't* find any clear opinions, bug list, installation instructions or kernels... ( I know what is Factory Reset, but "Wipe Everything"? )
So i ask your help, guys. ParanoidAndroid seems an A+++ rom for me, as i like costumization. No, do not ask me to get Xposed, it's already hard as it is for me.
So thanks guys!

I never flashed cyanogenmod on my tab (may be I am afraid of the term "nightly" makes it seem very unstable, you know!, though, they say they are as stable as they come).
Now there is this PAC-ROM , claims to have all-in-one features of all the roms together, i flashed it as well, it was also a good rom to test, but there were some bugs in it (you can refer to the thread), now I am using Adishakti's Dark-Fantasy-2 rom, which is a modded paranoidandroid+AOSP+ maybe caynogenmod ROM but it is really very good and stable, least of glitches i noticed elsewhere

I agree, also. I think it is funny how people go crazy over ROMs which are just other roms modified to the makers preferences. Not to say the makers do not deserve credit for their hard work, but why not take a good ROM and mod it to your own liking. Just an opinion.

Wow, so many comments on my "2cents"
Maybe my comment was perceived as "noob rant"
I had some experience with cyanogenmod in the past with some older phones (gingerbread ones) and definitely i was hooked to it then. But like I said, I was just afraid to try it on my Tab because of that dreadful suffix to it, and Luigi, your comment has really moved me
I am a member at cyanogenmod forum for last 2 years by the same name and I think on this forum too by the same name.
I actually had nothing much to post on xda previously because almost everything I wanted to know was already posted and i used this forum's knowledge to flash friends' phones mostly and had no experience of anything i used so nothing to post, but, since I now own a Galaxy tab P3100 and most of the time I am reading this section about the tab, I just wanted to share what i thought appropriate, that's all.
Thanks for pointing out that the rom I was talking about is a modded PAC-ROM, and I think what one flashes and uses is a matter of personal choice, i just shared my opinion as i think the OP asked for that.
Thanks for the comments
Alright installed cyanogenmod "latest nightly":good:
Working furiously since last 3 hrs installing all my apps all over again
Cleaned my internal memory (wiped it)
Maybe i'll come to like it.

Actually I had a huge backup of applications but I happen to read the SGT2 cyanogenmod nightly thread and right there in the first or second post users are warned against using titanium backup to restore apps. And I thaought, what the hell, maybe I need to wipe Internal memory clean from time to time so why not now.
Somewhere in the forum a new app backup software is suggested, "helium backup"! Any experience with that?
So now we are going way off topic
Back to the topic, after using the new ROM whole night (seriously I was on a night shift!), I found out it to be lot better than someone else's modded version, I used "PimpMyRom" to my heart's content!!!!!

Yes, I used pimpmyrom to add bravia2 engine, the sound tweaks, gps mod for better GPS lock, except for the quality of video, all other things improved as expected. I could not notice difference in video quality.
Gprs was also improved, no 3g where I live.

4.3 for G2X?

Hey guys,
Soo... JB 4.3 is out, and seems quite interesting and worth upgrading to. So, I have a few questions:
1) Will it be worth for the devs to work on 4.3 for the P999?
2) Do you think there will be any roms for it?
3) If no, do you think that the development for the P999 is dead?
First, let me ask you a question. Do you know why we don't have a proper JB ROM yet, or even ICS ROM...?

I'm daily driving a hackfest, and I love it. I'm sure there's many others who can live with a hackfest too.
If there was a 4.3 ROM I'd think it'd be apolkosnik to release it but with a broken radio like the current 4.2.2 ROM out.
There isn't even a hackfest version of android 4.2. There is no complete source to any hackfest for this device anymore I believe. Development is dead unless Maz ends up getting something released if he's still working on anything outside his kernels in my opinion

Not too mention the limited ram is going to cause too many issues

Not gonna happen. Way overdue to give up on g2x to receive any fully functional 4.0+ but like previous post said hackfest run well enough.

I'm using eaglesblood 4.0.4 as my daily driver and love it. The only thing is I don't have video recording and have choppy playback on the videos I took when I was using cm7. Other than that I absolutely love it and its incredibly stable.

That's what I'm currently using, and I wish EB would still work on it. Its really a great ROM. Oh well, I'm most likely gonna buy the MOTO X in a few months anyways..

hmm...closest app to a fully functioning recorder that i have tried so far but still not working correctly. The video freezes up every few seconds while recording and then continues to record again and then repeats the cycle in the playback. Appreciate your tip man but I gotta be honest, I think I'm pretty sh*t outta luck if I want a fully working HD recorder for an ICS ROM on this device lol.
With the right mods you can make your CM7 G2X look like Jellybean:

Temasek's CM7 Kang with one of the Trinity MAX kernels. ELP-Max for battery or T15-Max for performance.
If you want properly working ICS/JB, then buy a new phone. Period.

If you want something fast and stable,
The last CM7 (3-01-2013)
Pick a Trinity kernel

The SD and Internal SD are reversed, so if you have a larger SD it makes it seem like you have a large internal memory. Also the directory name for the "external" (now your 5gb internal) has changed to /mnt/emmc
