I am with froyo rom (purumod) and with fugumod 800Mhz std edition.
using fs.convert, converted system, data, cache to ext2 and sdext to ext4. Everything was fine here. Phone was very smooth and fast.
(I don't know why I did ) it but I was playing with shell, saw in output of 'mount' command that some /dev/stl4 (-> /efs) is in rfs filesystem. I thought lets convert it to ext2....created fs.convert with content "stl4 ext2". reboot phone. It did turned on as normal but NO NETWORK. Then I searched xda and found that I made a big mistake....a CORRUPT EFS ......
saw this thread for
G3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887769
but no luck....
can anyone point me to some direction...how to restore my phone?
I tried reflashing entire rom but i guess it dose not touches /efs....so no luck.
Please help me devs....
Edit:
I solved this. Please see my 4th post.
(i know int wrong thread, but i hope all devs watching this thread can help me. MOD can move this thread)

I should have put something in fugumod to avoid users to convert stl4 :/
If you don't have any backup of your original files of your efs partition (nv_data.bin etc..) , it will be very hard to restore your IMEI.
if you flash something on your phone, DO a backup of your efs partition (image and files).

Hello everyone I been slowly learning being this is my first Android device. I'm currently on VB and wanted to try out cm7 and like roms. I'm just concerned with the efs problem people are having (which I'm sure it's user error not following directions) .. Also the other thing I'm confused about what is the process to update a cm7? Do I need to backup and restore efs again or is backup stored on the sd card. I will also have a copy of my efs on my computer. I been learning a lot here. And hope I don't get bashed for asking but I'm the type of person who likes to learn so someday I can contribute to others. Thanks again everybody.

Make sure you back up your ENTIRE efs folder to your SDcard as well as a PC. If you do that you can mess up as much as you want and still get your IMEI back. If you follow directions in the CM7 thread you should be safe to convert. If you know how to use heimdall command line and have it installed I do it the old way which I think is much faster. Once your on MTD you can flash between ROMs without having to run any of the backup scripts again. Going back to BLM is as simple as a oneclick with bootloaders(although even that may be overkill).
I was planning to use cwm to convert to mtd and back up efs. But was also going mount /system after efs backup so I can then transfer and backup my /system including my efs files. Then I will continue with the process. Would this be good enough to convert?

Back up your EFS folder first before you convert to MTD. Use a root explorer back up level folder twice. You'll see a folder called "efs". Copy it to your SDcard. Once that is done connect your phone to a PC and copy the folder from your SDcard to the PC. Now you have two backups of your ORIGINAL efs folder. Once that is done follow any of the ways to get onto MTD.

Thank you hechoen for clarifying that. So to upgrade to a new build do I just do the process as a bml rom? Just flash build and restore efs.. In that case?

Yep. Once on MTD just reboot recovery wipe cache data system. Flash new build/ROM. I don't reflash the efs restore but that shouldn't be a problem if you want to.
Thanks so much man for your patience in making me understand how it works. So from what I understand once I'm converted to mtd my efs should restore from one rom to another. Btw I found the efs folder and backed up to sd card and onto the computer will convert to mtd once cm7 11 gets released..

No worries. Glad to help. Now that you have your original efs folder backed up flash away.
I say you wait until release 11. A lot of fixes and a much simpler flashing procedure.

Hi, was wondering, if I was to make a full nandroid backup online, would I be able to recover my device even if its in a bootloop state? Not that my device is in a bootloop state I was just wondering.
Thanks, Mohan.
Yes, you can use a nandroid backup to recover from a bootloop, as going into recovery bypasses the normal boot sequence. It is always recommended to have a nandroid backup of your last good configuration in case you are modifying anything that might cause your phone to become unstable.

Ohh right thanks, another question, im backing the data on my device right now, however its skipped /boot and /recovery and is only backing up /system and /data, are the first 2 needed or will i still be able to recover my rom and data without them?
All your user data is stored within the /data folder, with the /system folder containing all of your ROM files. You will not /boot or /recovery for recovering your data.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me.
Hello, i performed an EFS folder backup using EFS Professional. My question is, why it needs Busybox to work? I must have Busybox installed if i need to restore the EFS folder? I'm on 4.2 stock and rooted.
PS: the backup went ok, no errors. There is anothe better way to backup EFS on gt-i9105P?
PS2: Restoring a nandroid backup, also restore the EFS folder?
there is very little chance that your efs folder will be blown up .. now that you have a backup , you need not need to worry .. while flashing roms and wiping dat , and restoring roms via cwm backup and restore you only need to restore the rom and not the efs folder backup .. if in case , you do not find your imei no. or your efs folder and stuff , you can at any given time restore it manually .. correct me if i am wrong but that is how it works . all the best and Happy Flashing
I was on CM11 and One day i lost the IMEI number of my phone and lost all network. I think i flashed an update, dont remember clearly. I think the EFS folder was corrupted. I gave the phone to samsung service center and they were not able to fix it. Can any one help me? I dont have any backup.
ANyone? I tried flashing the stock value pack, didnt work
Cm11 suppose to do a efs backup in SD card. Look for it, if found replace efs folder with it and reboot. May work. Good luck.

I lost the funcionality Phone in my N8000. I think i lost the imei e someone more else. How can i restore my efs? I have a backup of my efs in format zip and format tar made 5 years ago ( i dont remember what application i used) , but i can not install via Odin or via Twrp, said Invalid Zip format on checking Digest File. I think the problem is checking the md5 generation that is not compatible with Odin and Twrp.
Someone can help me to restore the /efs partition with old backup. Thanks
see your identical post .
I resolved this situation, using Solid Explorer and Qute Terminal with root.

Thanks
It is not solved, when reboot the system, the imei of phone, N8000 is another, is from another file from i used to recover.
Manually from my backup what files and permissions i have to copy to the /efs in root of my N8000? First i copy nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5 and the folder /imei and works. I do not known the original permissions of the files, perhaps now the problem is this.
Someone can help me?
Thanks
With this guide "[GUIDE] Recover your IMEI in 9 steps. " https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-recover-imei-9-steps-t1264021 , i resolved my problem with imei, no problems with reboot, but now i did not have access to Wifi, i can not connect to my Wifi Network.
Someone can help me, how can activate wifi? What files i need to copy from my backup? Before clean the /efs i made a backup the old efs.
Thanks
Flash stock rom .
I flash the stock rom and now i did not have any problems
