First of all i have tried and tested this on my AT&T Atrix2 running on ICS leak2 and it worked for me flawlesly.it should work for everyone but i can't guarantee that it will.
I didn't develop any of this i just folllowed the steps in this thread and i was good to go.so basically anyone following these steps should be fine.
YOU MUST READ HERE FIRST:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224
Okay so now first of all YOU MUST BE ON ICS TO FLASH THIS.
What i did was downloaded the M7_online.zip,M7_ofline.zip,M7_update.zip and Google_Now_Remover.zip from the forum above.
U need to have minimum of 30mb free in system to flash the online version and 60mb for ofline version.
Now since you wanna try this on odexed system chance are you will not be having this much of free space in the system.so to free up space you can use n number of methods but i don't wanna go into that.
The method which i used was with an app which almost all of u must be familiar with Titanium Backup.as you might already be aware you must rooted to use this.using TB I uninstalled many bloatwares.you can also do the same but a safer way would be to freeze the programs you want to uninstall first and see if everything is working well.if it is then you can go ahead and uninstall it.but hey this is your risk to take.btw the programs i uninstalled were Google plus,Google talk,Music Store,Google play Music,Zumocast,MotoPrint,Facebook, Google play books,Google play movies and tv and i had about 58mb of space which was sufficient to install any of the version of Google now(online or offline).
Then to install google now just boot into custom recovery using bootmenu and flash the appropriate zip M7_online.zip if you want to save space or M7_ofline.zip if space is not a problem in your case.
you.can update your version of.Goolge now by flashing M7_update.zip.it will update either online version or the ofline version depending on which ever you have installed.
If you don't like google now you can revert to previous search by flashing Google_Now_Remover.zip
I am running on ICS leak2 odexed.
Attached are screenshots to backup my claim.

Hello,
I have rooted my HTC Tattoo using universalAND root app. I want to know what can i do after rooting it?? and also if i want to install froyo 2.1 on it how do i do it ?
also will it work on my tattoo ?
Just search for Android Froyo 2.1 in Android Market and push the Update Button....
Wtf search the forums if you know nothing!
Yeah dude he's right do some research.. its not that hard.
I'l give you a quick list of what you can do:
Apps2SD (store apps on SD card)
CPU Overclocking (self explanatory0
FLASH A CUSTOM ROM (I highly recommend that is what you search for first)
Wireless Tethering (share internet connection with your PC)
And lots, lots more...
Your first point of research should most definitely be Flashing a Custom Rom.
But seriously how hard is it to just search google?
@ xtcislove : sorry for being so lazy...actually i was searching for things before posting this..but got really confused half way. thanks for your advice.
@ Android001 : thank you for the starting points..will get to it soon.
no problem..
you do realise he was joking about the market and update thing, you cant do that
yes... well i managed to root my tattoo with universaland root. installed titanium backup. its asking for busybox. when i try to do adb i keep getting an error. i searched the forums for an answer, but they r not helping. m attaching an image if u can just go through it and let me know what can de done..it will be gr8.

I cant see any picture?
I don't know much about the Tattoo because i use a Hero..
For BusyBox i know that it comes built in with most Custom Roms, I know for a fact that it comes with all Villain and Cyanogen Roms.
I think there is an application on the market that I have seen before that attempts to install BusyBox.. but that isn't guaranteed to work.
Does it not just install when Titanium Backup gives you the option to?
And why don't you just flash a Rom then you wont have all this trouble.
Okay a little bit i tell you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=544
Here you should have a look first.
1. Install a Recovery Image
2. Install a Custom ROM
3. Modify your Phone personally but carefully! Do not so much at the system and do not download things of other Phone Section´s!

Have fun
I'm getting an error when I try and ugprade my Android version. I'll start with the history and spec first:
Google Nexus One, bought in April 2010, it had Eclair (2.1) on it. I wanted Froyo 2.2 (for the hotspot/tethering) but the update delays being what they were I ended up rooting it, getting clockworkmod, and installing CyanogenMod 6 (based on 2.2). It's been the same ever since and I've been happy with it. It's only because a month or two ago it stopped being able to update any of the apps that I'm even wanting to upgrade, otherwise I'd be happy with CM6. I can no longer update or even search for apps. If I can't go back to plain Android because I've gone CyanogenMod, that's fine, I'll just go for a newer version of it.
I'm not wanting to live on the bleeding edge with ICS4 on this old-timer (yes I've heard it runs but with bugs), so if I can, I'll go for a plain vanilla Gingerbread 2.3.3.
I downloaded 2.3.3 from here and renamed it update.zip and put it in the root of my SD card. I shut the phone down and then followed the instructions I found here.
It seemed like it would be easy, but I'm getting this error after choosing "Apply sdcard: update.zip". After the error I show two screenshots of how I got to that point.

For anyone with the same issue, you could have posted the solution here.Dont promote other sites.
I think the problem was with the file.
Sometimes the browsers get bugged and they dont download the whole package.
I have had this error a couple of times and re-downloading the rom fixed the solution.
This morning I was checking the update for my GT-P2610. Low and behold, it is now downloading the official version of ICS now.:victory:
Edit: Kudos to Samsumg, It kept my root.

I think it's the same one that is available at sammobile. But it's cool to hear that it's now available as an OTA and that your root was kept
I was wondering if you noticed if there is a difference between the size & amount of space ics takes up after you updated from honeycomb to this ics? I was wondering if I'll have to make sine space for the update. I'm also wondering if you know if it'll reinstall any system apps (the apps that come preinstalled with the tablet) that have been uninstalled or if it'll just update to ics & leave everything else alone like it's supposed to. Sounds hopeful if it kept your root!

You mean re-installing bloatware apps during ICS upgrade? I think I saw a forum post saying that it was "recommended" to reinstall any removed bloatware app before attempting the ICS upgrade(maybe I did read wrong), I suggest to look at those post first just to be sure.
My OTA update failed... Must be due to root, titanium update, etc. Had to go the Kies route. Kies installer would not run on windows 7... Tried downloading multiple times with 3 different browsers... Same result...program too big to fit in memory!
Finally had to download kies installer to tab, changed extension to zip, emailed the zip to my laptop, changed zip back to exe, and wallah... Successful install ok kies!
Then used kies to upgrade to ICS. Talk about a round-a-bout method!
But ICS up and running. Going to try using Chrome browser.

Is your version of GPM installed as a system app? Installing the latest update from APK Mirror doesn't seem to work on the stock rom with system google apps.

It isn't I am on true pure MM rom. Has to be as user app.

I was just able to get Google Play Music changed over to a user app on my Stock systemless rooted MM. I did not follow the OP's instructions though. First I thought that Titanium backup would be able to convert it to a user app, but it ended up hanging. Instead I used Root Explorer to go into system/priv-app and delete the Music2.apk. After that I rebooted to make sure that GPM was removed. Once I confirmed it was gone from the system I re-installed it from the Play Store, and moved it to SD.
All works fine now.
Anyone have any idea how to make this work on a non-root (stock) device? I really hate the fact that this scenario doesn't work properly... I have no access to my 128 GB SD card space.

Hello. It's been about 5 years, and a lot has changed:
-twrp is broken, fastboot fun times
-I've got to go "systemless" root for Google pay & safety net
-there's partitions A and B to worry about
But my main question is, with these things in mind, how am I going to restore from a TB backup from my old phone? (It has all my sms, call logs, apps and data, etc)
Maybe someone can point me in the right direction for how to achieve a rooted android 10 P3a that passes safety net and will allow me to restore my titanium backup, presumably using magisk as the root method.
Is the process straightforward or are there some extra steps and things to keep in mind, any major differences?
Thoughts, comments, questions, concerns? Do tell!

Alright buddy,
If I follow this guide, then install TB, then restore... If I get one single error along the way... Then I'm holding you personally accountable, Mr... Andisa, if that is your real name.
Don't worry guys, I've done the research and compiled a nice guide for you.
Step 1. Install TB and backup everything
2. Now install Split APK Installer
3. Set the filter settings as seen in this helpful image below:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. Look at the list of all the apps that TB will fail to restore
5. Uninstall TB
6. Search for a modern-day complete backup and restore solution while continuing to pray that we'll someday return to the golden era of android custom development.

Looks like you owe me an apology.
You could also try the tools provided by my Android Backup Project. Those should work on Android 7 - 11 but unfortunately not yet tested much on non stick Android builds
