Hello, I just bought this device and I think I have a problem...
BTW this is the one s s4 no brand.
after retrieving my Google contacts and loading up all my Facebook ones with their photos, no message appears.
mean that on my desire after a while a pop up appears saying that he found some contacts that may be linked.
Nothing appears on the S.
Yet some contacts got linked without asking me something and I manually linked 3 more. But that's hard and i'm lazy..
Someone can help me improving my experience?
Tank you all!
Solution:
Use G+.

Hi All. im running a A stock rom on an HTC desire UK standard non branded.
Im having a small but annoying problem when adding a new item to one of my secondary calendars on my desire.
Whenever i create an event in one of my secondary calendars it automatically adds myself as a guest in the google calendar application on my pc.
Ive been reading up on the google help forums and have found this..
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Calendar/thread?fid=49e2af446cdd7de000048bfd7b698604&hl=en

It is 2012 and Google still hasn't fixed this issue.
So i updated my HTC ChaCha android version to 2,3,5 and upon restarting i noticed that the updates under the clock on the main screen doesn't work anymore, i can press it and it goes to my twitter & facebook updates no problems at all and i can see there has been new posts on both twitter & facebook but it doesn't display on the main screen under my clock if you understand?
Everything else seems to be absolutely perfect with the phone though except this, is there something that changed to stop it showing updates on your main screen or has it disabled something that i need to re-enable i have looked everywhere but can't find it anywhere. Sure it's not a big deal but it was nice to see when new posts and tweets were posted up without having to jump into both Facebook & Twitter to see.
Hope someone can give me a hand, on another note is there anywhere i can find about how this LINK thing works? reason i'm asking is that my daughter has a facebook page (she hasn't posted her mobile number on facebook) and i have her phone number obviously in my mobile, but there is no way that i can see for me to link my contact that i entered manually to her facebook page, is it because she doens't have her mobile number on her facebook or something else? some info would be awsome.
HTC ChaCha is a really nice phone though so glad my wife bought it for me for my christmas, first android phone and i got to admit i will never ever go back to anything else
Welcome!! I can't help sorry as I don't use Facebook and use osr custom rom.

Go to HTC Hub and update the Clock Widget, then remove it from the screen and add it again. It could help you... If you want to link Facebook acount, go to contacts (people), open your daughter (with number) and tap on the small chain button in the right top corner. Then just select facebook and find the account you want to link.
While I'm a huge fan of Google products and services, there attitude of ignoring the masses when it comes to certain features that everyone wants/needs in the name of 'it's better' the way we designed it gets frustrating.
I'm hoping someone here knows a solution to this:
My contacts [not even the same name] keep getting merged/linked together automatically. It's happened on every Android device I've owned, and it's always happened to completely different names. I keep my contacts meticulously organized, and would never have a duplicate that would even need to be linked together. I've sent emails to Google asking how to disable it, etc. and they tell me it's a feature that everyone likes basically.
The most recent linking disaster was it linked my current girlfriend 'Lisa' with my ex-girlfriend 'Elizabeth' with TOTALLY DIFFERENT last names...WTF? So when I hit the dial button on the contact clearly labelled 'Lisa', and with her picture...I was actually calling my EX! Needless to say this led to a long argument that there was no way I could accidentally call me ex when trying to call my girlfriend, and blaming it on Google is ridiculous.
It's done this with a contact 'David', my then boss...and a contact labelled Dad...so when I tried calling work at 2AM (when I start) I actually woke up my dad in the middle of the night. There is no way of knowing when this happens unless I manually check every contact to see if there has been any merging or memorize everyone's phone number so I can see if it's really dialing the right number. It even linked my friend Charles, with Les Schwab Tire store once before.
Anyway, everything I've searched on the subject says that there should be some sort of notification asking me if I want to link/merge contacts, and to make sure to select 'NO'. I've never been notified though, and just get surprised at least once a month when my phone calls someone else, when I select a contact to dial.
Whoever knows the answer will save my life!
Thanks

I've never noticed this...what version of Android are you on and what phone do you have?
In haven't seem it either...are you talking about the "merge duplicate" feature? Did you happen to leave the first or last name blank?

It's happened on my Atrix running GB, also on my Note running ICS. It's happened to 3 other people's phone I know.
I think you might be on to something...it does seem to happen most often to names where I have no last name entered. It merged 'Lisa' with no last name to "Elizabeth" with a last name. It has merged 'Dad' with quite a few different names beginning with D.
They are not merged/linked when viewing contacts on the web in gmail...they are still separate there. It just merges them on the phone only. The most recent one I can't figure out the algorithm behind thinking these were duplicates and merging them automatically was: [Lowe's] and my friend [Lana], Hit her picture from my favorites menu, and got the Lowe's Home Improvement store. Her picture was displayed on the dialing screen and everything. Had to go into contacts, choose 'un-link', and sure enough it had automatically merged to two contacts after sitting separately for years.
This isn't Google. This behaviour is of the stock contacts applications by Motorola and Samsung. Each one modifies the Google contacts app in their own way, especially with regard to linking of contacts and social networking. You'll be better off asking in your device forum to see if others are facing this issue, and contacting Motorola or Samsung about it. It doesn't happen on AOSP Android ROMs, and on pure Android devices like the Nexus line.

This is definitely the best advice. I had this problem when I got the original Evo which was running Sense. Your phone might be trying to link similar contacts as well as facebook contacts if you've logged into the facebook app and let it sync contacts. I recommend going directly to your Google Contacts and doing a bit of organizing and cleaning. Once you have that cleaned up it will hopefully not mis-link your contacts again, even when you log into facebook or something like that.

Right. I did that when I first got my phone. I named all my contacts properly (First name, Last name) so the Sense Facebook sync linked my Facebook contacts correctly. If you want to keep nicknames rather than formal names, then adding all your contacts' email addresses from Facebook will also link them correctly regardless of name. Even if your email addresses and contact names don't match with Facebook, you have an option of manually going through all your contacts and linking them (in HTC Sense). You'll only need to do that once as Sense stores an '< HTCdata >' tag in the 'Notes' field of each contact indicating which Facebook contact it is linked to, so any future sync will immediately link the contacts based on this tag. The best Facebook sync app for AOSP ROMs, HaxSync, also makes use of these tags.
Organizing your Google contacts just once in your life goes a long way.

Hey people, I have a problem and I think you can help me or at least, point me in the right direction
My Facebook account was recently banned and closed, no reason was given "out of security reasons" and so, even after an appeal to just find out why, they just stopped and closed the case.
Well I made a new account and all that stuff and just noticed, my Samsung Note 10.1 (2012) is still showing a lot of contacts and old messages. I was wondering...are the contacts saved on my device? Because the Tablet isn't connected to the internet and it is still showing everything.
Is there a way, to see the names of the contacts "still in the app".
I hope you can understand what I am trying to achieve.
Thanks for reading. :good:
I have to add to that, the device is rooted.
No one?

All the contacts and messages are mostly stored as db files.
You just need to open them from /data/data/com.facebook.whatever
You can even do this from phone easily by:
1. Install this app: My Android Tools
2. Select 'Database' tab under 'Data Info' from options.
3. Choose Messenger app and look for db files one by one for contacts.
Maybe that can help. I'm not sure, since I don't use Messenger. I use FB from browsers
Couldn't find anything googling the subject (actually couldn't find any valid solution). It seems it's common to many android phones...
I have over 4,000 contacts and both the contact app fro Samsung or Google contact app (which I installed) have the ver bad habit of quite randomly linking contacts (A lot f them...) and it's sincerely a very big pain. I can of course unlink them one by one but not only it would take ages but also they tend to recombine with some others later.
Question: has anybody found a working way to simply disable/forbid any linking at all? Or even better manage the "smart" (hum...) rules around the merging and select our own. I would be more than happy to link on phone numbers ONLY, so that my Google and whatsapp contact link. But I can't stand this stupid phone linking unrelated contact even within one single account which is expected to be properly maintained already (Such as hundreds of contacts within my google account alone)
Am I the only one??

Nobody with the same annoying issue? Been googling but found only people with the problem, not the solution to it...
I have some account link suggestions that dont make sense at all lately and ppl on telegram suddenly have new names cuz my phone, oneplus5, thinks that contact has a new number suddenly.
This problem has been driving me absolutely mad! I have nearly 3000 contacts over three google synced accounts and many contacts are linked within and across the accounts with nothing in common.
Did you found any solution for it ?
Thanks
