Yesterday, I headed out and just took a couple of pictures, sent two messages and looked up one address before work...then I pick up my phone halfway through work, 7.5 hours unplugged, and see the battery at 49%. Wtf! Battery stats show Voice Calls chewing through the power...but I've only had this phone since Monday and have literally NEVER made a call. Anybody have any idea what's going on?

Im not one to know a lot about batteries but make sure for the 1st few charges to the phone that you let it run completely dead then recharged. Lots of rechargeable batterys have memorys in them and if the battery is always on the charger and then gets taking off the charger and goes down to lets say 40 percent. You then plug the charger in when its at 40 and charge it to 100. You do this often. The battery will make the 40 mark the new 0. So basically you lost 40 percent of what your battery is capable of.
Now if these batterys that come in the GS3 do this, idk yet. I have had mines since this past tuesday and have not had bad battery issues, yet. This was just a idea, take it with a grain of salt. I guarentee someone else here can give ya a better answer.
PS, maybe buy a secondary battery? Im gonna do that down the road on my next paycheck.

Charged it to 100% immediately after I got it then ran it dead Monday/Tues/Wed night. I'm more curious where the voice call is coming from - I haven't made any calls! Should have probably mentioned that the battery only dropped another 15% between 8:30 and 2:30, with mild use.
Stock kernel is always a last resort but I like customizability. Going to a JB ROM when VZW upgrades.
I would try flashing the stock kernel back to the phone and test for a day to see if the battery does the same thing. If it does you know its not the kernel and you can run the one you want.

Lithium Ion cells in the current batteries do not carry a memory whatsoever. Full drains are not required to dial in the cells. Older nickel cadmium and nickel metal hydride batteries would, and not fully draining before charging would dismiss cells from the battery itself essentially forgetting them (hence memory). If the battery is not delivering full amp/hr performance, resetting battery stats could fix that or its a bad battery.

I flashed 747 Tuesday night and everything was fine until yesterday. Back on stock for now, we'll see how it progresses.
I decided to be reckless, went to CleanROM with 747 the day before a half marathon. After four hours of music at max volume, two Bluetooth sensors (GPS and heart rate) and Runkeeper for two hours, and a half hour of calling after the race...74%. I'm happy.

I had terrible battery drain when I flashed paranoid android last week. The problem was the modem. I ended up flashing the vrlg1 modem and it seem to be good now. That might help ya.
I'm on G7 OTAed onto stock when I bought it, that always ran great. I don't know what it was but it's cleared up...keeping airplane mode on when I'm in the subway helps too.

It's better idea to buy 3 pack of knock off batteries with charger on Ebay for $10. That's what i've done and i've had the batteries for 2 months now.. The knock off batteries last about 80-90% as long as the original. I always keep two charged and swap them whenever needed and bam back to 100% and no oversized backing in which no case can fit

I got those and they worked ok. Don't last as long as the OEM but you have an option of switching the batteries when waiting for the other to charge. They take a long time to charge from 0 to 100%. Still a better alternative than getting stuck with 1 battery. For me they last about 4 hours with listening to the radio on LTE and with everything else running in the background. This phone does suck a lot of juice.

Sounds like its not even close to 3800mah, or even 1800mah. Cheap batteries are notorious for overstating their actual capacity.

If u guys read what I wrote you would only have to spend $10 and get 3 batteries along with charger.. One of the batteries lasts a decent amount of time. I've been running on the Ebay battery since 6am and its now 152 pm. And I'm at 30% with decent data usage. I got my stock battery fully charged and ready to go for when I run out.. And I have the other two batteries as back ups if one of the batteries decides to fail. That beats having an oversized backing anyday

It depends on whether you carry a briefcase , are around a single place regularly, or have neither apply to you. I'm all over the place without a bag daily, so batteries in the pockets makes no sense.

Looked at extended batteries but didn't want to add thickness. Found an external battery pack (8400mAh) that works great, especially since I use a tablet. Gotta carry an extra device, but that works for me. Can get smaller capacity for about 1/2 the price of the one I got.
Can't post links since I'm a noob . Search Amazon for Anker external battery pack.

Finally had a chance to run this battery through its passes the last few days.
Let me describe my day.
I run an IT shop so I get lots of status, info, newsletter etc emails throughout the day. In addition I get text messages regularly, email on my gmail account, facebook updates and hourly twitter updates via plume.
So my phone comes off the charger around 7am(on home wifi), I start dealing with work emails at that time.
I do a commute of about 40-45 min where I'll listen to music that is stored on my phone pipe through my cars audio system in the morning. Get to work(go back to wwifi), then the phone will be on on sound notification for text and work email throughout the daily. I also run NoLED for notification.
Lunch time I'll come off wifi as I head out but I'll the phone will see increase usage as I'll browse various apps, play a few games, etc.
Back to just status notifications for the rest of the work day(back on wifi), then an evening commute home listening to music again, and back on wifi at home.
With that in my the stock battery will start at 100% and by the end of the day as I get in my car to head home be at about 15%-17%.
Yesterday the extended battery was at 45% when I got in the car, and by about 10:30pm was still at about 15%.
Today I didn't use my phone as much today (limiting it to mostly status updates which still come regularly) and my phone right now is at 65%.
This will work for me. I really only have an extended battery for periods where I'm not going to be near a charger... basically a day when I know I'm going to be out and about, as oppose to at work or in my car.
So with that being said I'm happy with the purchase.
edit: I also own an Energizer XP18000 which I can use to charge my phone and my Xoom 4G tablet that will come in to play when I head out on business trips for IT conferences.
So, you're gettng a 30% increase from a supposed 1950mah increase in battery capacity over the 1850 mah stock. That sounds like a 2400mah battery rather than a 3800mah battery.

My testing was very unscientific and this is really only the first day of usage. I vaguely remember that with many of these batteries folks have commented that the increase gains fairly quickly over a short period of usage/recharging?
Do I still need to calibrate the battery when using batteries that've been charged using my wall charger?
I'm switching between 2 1500mah batteries and 1 3500mah battery (which is probably really about 2200mah) on an every other day basis. Calibrating my battery would be such a pain in the a$$.
I'm running CM9 build 17 with Glitch B6 (although I'd figure that that doesn't really matter).

I didnt when I changed a couple days ago from my almost 2yr old original battery with my new Anker 1800mAh. The life my phone got over the weekend was incredible!
You do still need to occasionally run the battery low (<5%), especially if you've had a series of unintended reboots or see the battery % drop suddenly. Not drain but skip numbers like:70% crash 55%.

Had my baby for a little over a year and a half, been nothing but a great phone in that time. This is where the problem starts... I'll be using it like normal, texting and surfing, and will have 98% battery, the phone will shut down, and when it decides to start back up, I will have 14% battery or less.... But it will go up if I leave it alone..... I've tried wiping the battery stats, even charging with the phone off, nothing is working. I will attach screenshots so you can see what's up.

Your battery is bad. Same thing happened to me, I recommend just buying a new OEM battery from a reputable dealer on Amazon, that's what I did. Try setting it down on a table and push on one side and if it rocks back and forth its bad. Or you can just look at it and see its swollen
Mine did that and it was just a bad battery. If you take the battery out and place it on a flat surface you may notice that it rocks left and right. If it rocks a lot or if you feel the middle and it feels swollen it may be symptoms of a bad battery.

It is dangerous because battery acid can get on you and cause sever skin irritation. You can continue like this for 1 to 2 days MAX until you get your new battery. Try not to use it because using it more will cause it to swell more, DUH try to only use it for emergencies and then once you get the new battery clean the terminals and you'll be good to go

I'm curious about charging habits of the people who have bad batteries. I have had my phone since the day it came out and my battery is still fine. I never let it get below 30% unless I'm testing a new ROM. Killing lithium ion batteries is really bad for them. So how many of you drain it all the way on a regular basis?
I'm still using my old vibrant battery (at times). I don't think that it's as strong as the spare that I purchased a few months ago, but, is on par with the 18 month old battery that came with the phone. I zap them all the way down a lot of the time (then swap to a fully charged one). I do(try) to recharge to full before use though.
Mine does it but only when I'm using wifi or data could that still be a bad battery

I run mine down to 1 percent on a daily basis. Never let it die though. I was under the impression that if you let it drain to zero you're asking for trouble. I could easily change my ways though.

Hechoen.......I use mine till under 10% or so and then full charge it. Been doing that over a year now. My wife however plugs hers in off and on throughout the day without letting it full charge all at once and she has a bad battery....

Shallow discharge cycles are generally accepted to be better for Li-ion batteries than deep ones.

That is probably a bad idea. I would try to plug it in around 15-20% with 20% being the best time. According to the batteryuniversity website 20-80% is ideal for li-ion batteries because it keeps the heat down. Charging from less than 15% creates heat because that is a low level and takes a bit longer to charge from therefore exposes the battery to more heat. A good charger and battery will shut off the charger once it hits 100% and only allow for a trickle charge if the battery drops below 100%. But I have seen my phone get hotter from about 85% to 100% if Im using it ie: plugged in and streaming music or using navigation.
Hello guys I'm I little worried. Here's the thing, I tried for some days figuring out how to root,unlock bootloader, super CID, etc.. it was with good battery life, but after I did all that, I installed the viperxl (i used it with my older HOXL) and everything ran good. What I have noticed is that my battery drain is so, I mean soooo bad..!
I tried a full wipe but I think it's still the same. My phone its brand new so there is no problem with older owners. I haven't changed the radio (maybe could be that?) I have lost more battery on standby than when using the phone and that didn't happened with my older HOXL
So could be that I messed my battery when I charged the phone with the nexus 7 charger??
Or what could be the problem?? Any suggestions will be good, thanks....

Is the N7 charger more amps than the One X charger? Some folks on here have said that the device will only pull the amps it needs, others have contradicted this. I don't know enough about the topic to comment either way. I use a Motorola charger on my One X every day, since it has a longer cord than the HTC charger and it happens to work better where I have it located on my desk.
I can honestly say I've used my nexus 7 charger a few times with no problems

Its a mental thing. I use my nexus 7 charger at home and my htc one at work and a high output Motorola in the car. My battery life has always been superb. Running latest viper with beastmode evita...
From what I know about charger outputs, it doesnt matter, it depends on the device. It can only pull in its max regardless of the charger. Higher the output in a charger should be better so your phone can pull in its max
There's also other factor that contributes to horrible battery life. Rogue apps, horrible networks that switches back and forth between lte and hspa+ and so on...
The last thing could just be a bad battery. Not common but I'm pretty sure it happens

yep the specifications of amps is the current that the charger can handle, as long as the charger of the n7 can handle the same or more current than the one xl charger it should be ok, many chargers are 1A.
For the OP , i think you should definitively try with another rom, maybe stock to make sure that the problem is not your battery?

On the one x charger says output: 1A, and in the N7 charger says output: 2A, but I only charged it like 2-3 times I guess, so I don't know why I have that poor battery life,.Maybe hardware problem? Or should I change my radio??
Also how can I know if its a hardware problem??

Your device isn't going to take in 2A. It's only going to take in what it can. I'm not saying that by using a different charger is not going to harm your device, it's just highly unlikely it will. They only way is to flash back to stock and see if that makes a different.
Also, you mention you had another 1x, is your current one a refurb or replacement? That may have something to do with it as well
The Rom is awesome but there are times when it doesn't work for very small numbers of devices...you're just prob unlucky.

It's not a replacement, I soldy older one to a friend and bought this new one, with WiFi I have noticed that standby and normal usage I have a good battery life, the problem is when I'm on 3g/H, maybe could the radio? Because when I'm on data it drains really really fast, like 3-6% per hour on standby...

It might be your radio switching back and forth that's draining your battery.
I have 2 jobs, my first one has lte coverage but not so great in the building so it's always switching from LTE to 4g which I notice drains my battery. My 2nd job at night has great coverage in and out the warehouse. I get full bars of LTE there and my battery would drain very slowly.
In the beginning, I was worried as well because my battery drain seem like a lot so I thought something was wrong but then I checked the battery at my second job and it was great so I figured it was just the network and location.
Overall, especially compared to all the androids I ever used, the one x battery is pretty damn impressive especially for an LTE device.
I came from Verizon using the droid razr and galaxy nexus which couldn't make it past 4 hours on lte with light usage

I have 2 jobs, my first one has lte coverage but not so great in the building so it's always switching from LTE to 4g which I notice drains my battery. My 2nd job at night has great coverage in and out the warehouse. I get full bars of LTE there and my battery would drain very slowly.
In the beginning, I was worried as well because my battery drain seem like a lot so I thought something was wrong but then I checked the battery at my second job and it was great so I figured it was just the network and location.
Overall, especially compared to all the androids I ever used, the one x battery is pretty damn impressive especially for an LTE device.
I came from Verizon using the droid razr and galaxy nexus which couldn't make it past 4 hours on lte with light usage

In from Mexico, so I don't have LTE here, but what I have noticed is that its always on H, with full bars, that's what worry me, yesterday I was on WiFi since I was in my house and the battery was very good, so probably is the radio,I will check with data today to be sure of Its the radio or the battery

I've experienced crapp battery life after using my HP Touchpad charger.
Also, my 2nd HOX had horrible battery life out of the box. After fully draining > charging twice my screen on time went from 2.5 hours to 4+ hours with the exact same settings and usage.
Edit: while we're talking batteries... I heard a tech from.the ATT Device Service Center tell two people not to charge their phones overnight because leaving it on the charger when it's full is bad for the battery. Those guys are so smart! They must get their info from Yahoo Answers.

Maybe I have to do that full discharge and charge cycle, today I unplugged it at 9:25am and it's 12:40am and I still have 28% with 3hrs onscreen time. I'm happy hope that keeps going that way

The battery meter calibration gets wiped whenever you flash a custom ROM. You should do at least 2-3 power cycles before making any judgements on battery. Charge to full, but only drain to 10-20%. Draining to shutoff doesn't make it any more accurate, but has the added risk that once in a while the safety circuit will not engage properly, and you will be stuck with a battery that will not accept a charge.
Also, on any ROM but stock AT&T, you can toggle LTE off. Since you don't have LTE in your area, toggle it off (if you haven't already) in Settings>Mobile network settings>network mode.

That's the explanation I've read previously.
But if so, why did HTC used a different charger plug for the HTC Flyer tablet than all their phones? The charge port is an interesting one, in that its bigger than a MicroUSB port, but will still accept a MicroUSB charge or sync cable (the plug only takes up the bottom "half" of the port when plugged in). The pins needed for data sync are the same, and in fact you can actually plug any MicroUSB sync cable or charger into the Flyer. But you can't plug the Flyer's charger (1.62 Amp) to any HTC phone, only the Flyer (and I assume the Jetstream tablet).
Many have said that this is so people would not plug the Flyer charger to a phone, and damage the phone from the higher amps.
Seems like the difference in amps is the only reason HTC used a different charge port for the Flyer.

In my experience, an uncalibrated battery can go from 8% battery to 0% in a matter of minutes. The only way that I've corrected this is with a full discharge.

You're just calibrating the meter, not the battery. The notion of calibrating the battery is left over from 80s technology NiCad batteries.
Under the best of circumstances, the battery meter is nowhere near accurate enough to expect readings less than 8% to be accurate. If you've experienced some more "accurate" reading at this granularity, it may just be placebo or pure chance. Even if true, I'd rather have a bit of inaccuracy in the low end, rather than play with the probability of a battery that won't take a charge.
In any case, you shouldn't be running your battery down that low. We all do it once in a while, but it shouldn't be habit.

You would be wrong, the battery meter is recalibrated on each boot.

The battery usage data is wiped with each boot or charge (same as wiping battery stats). But I don't think that is the same as the calibration data.

So I have the Zero lemon 7000mah battery now. I let my phone die so I can get a full charge. Last night, I let it charge for 8 hours. When the phone was off, it told me that the battery was at 100%,when I boot it up, it isn't even at 50%...so I turned it off and it said the same thing while it was charging. Please help

I honestly do not know the correct answer for you. I do know with zero lemon, Hyperion, etc...those 7000 mah batteries should never be discharged to zero. If memory serves me, never below 3%.
You may want to try the 12 hour minimum charge cycles again like when it was new? Also, maybe you could use a better charger/cable? I had a zero lemon that started acting wonky at right about 6 months, and they were good about honoring the warranty. While I was waiting for the replacement, I ordered the Hyperion 7000 mah, and they have a 2 year warranty. I've only had it a couple of months, and so far very much like the zero lemon. It actually seems exactly the same (except for the warranty).
One last thing, and this may not be good advice, but I picked up a rocket fish charger, it charges at 1 mah instead of .5 like the standard charger....Just because it charges twice as fast. No one told me to do that, and I don't know if it's bad or good. I figured they wouldn't sell rapid chargers if they were bad.

I let it charge overnight until it was 100%, and it was when I got up. I checked it like a minute later and it was 44%... This is a bit ridiculous.
Have you completely powered off your phone? That might help. If it doesn't, zero lemon was very good about replacing my battery...Maybe get a replacement.

Well it charged 1% every 15 minutes at its current rate. That is obscene.
