The whole copy & paste function is broken. When I select text and then copy whatever program I use it crashes and doesn't copy. Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

This is a big problem on the Galaxy S3 that seems to be spreading to the Note 10.1. When I contacted Samsung support I was told, like the S3 users to do a factory restore! the other alarming issue is that the s3 Jellybean upgrade didn't stop the issue coming back a month or so later. A ICS fix is to manuallydelete all clipboard folder files but that requires root access!
As I'm not happy rooting under warranty I'm hoping a script can be written' like a windows batchfile in command line mode to run a clean cashe script for said folder on non - rooted Note & S3's but that beyond my skills?
I had issues like this where I would get reboots when I tried accessing my clipboard. I found a temp fix was deleting the clipboard in the/data folder, then fix permissions in recovery. After that my clipboard would work again, but then every now and then it would stop and I'd have to do it again. I haven't had any issues lately though since I've been on the redemption ROM
same on GT-N8000
I've met this same problem recently on my stock GT-N8000.
The problem is also addressed here and here.
copied text from an email from gmail pasted it on snote, sms, calender app no problem whatsoever. may be you have installed an application which is causing the crashes for me it works like a charm

hi i have ICS RC7.4 installed with a VKL1 modem flash to be used on tmobile.
my problem is that the google voice recognition keeps showing me the tutorial/welcome screen instead of going directly to the voice input screen which means i have to press the microphone button before i can talk ..ohh how frustrating. i checked the settings but there is no option do disable the welcome screen. interestingly enough this behavior seems random sometimes the tutorial screen comes up sometimes it just works like it should.
Is anyone else experiences this or knows how to fix ?
thx - phil
If you are running a ROM then you should ask your dev to include GV as sys apk
Or drag the Google voice apk to the system folder before you flash it and not bother the dev with something you can do yourself.

thx for the replies.
is there a way todo this without flashing? or can i just "re flash" my ICS over the current one with the apk in the system folder without loosing any settings/data.
litte noobish here sorry....i made the swap from iphone to droid like 4 days ago. so far i have a custom rom, flashed modem, rooted and unlocked.... its a steep learning curve and im loving it!
There's a way to do it without wiping but it's complicated and youbhave to fix permission and stuff. I think if your custom rom has a no wipe update you could put it in that one and flash that way. Always backup before modifying.

or you could just copy and past the file from your /data/app folder to /system/app fix permissions and reboot. (you might get fcs as you do this if so reboot then fix permissions and reboot again)
Hello all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note i717. I have installed a few ROM's, but recently I installed CM9 unofficial build. After it was installed, I noticed that my build.prop is only like 4 lines long. So I try and add stuff to it (I am rooted, and used RW mode in Root Explorer). I can close the file and save changes successfully, but when I reboot it is back to the way it was with the 4 lines. It is not only that though, any files i add to the "/" get deleted upon reboot.
Things I have tried:
ODIN to stock rom, still did not have a full build.prop
Tried many different ways to change file system (different programs)
Ran fix permissions in CWM and busybox installer script
All with no success. Is there anything else I can try to fix this and be able to edit my "/" and have changes take affect. Or has anyone had this issue before?
Thanks
So no one has any idea what's happening? Is there a way to completely wipe everything and start fresh? Like format the whole internal file system like a brand new phone?

Recently my copy / paste function won't work. When I try to copy text in Chrome, the stock browser or Evernote the app crashes. When in Gmail, stock email app or any other app I can copy but when I go to paste the option to paste doesn't appear. Anyone else experience this? I have a 8013 stock, not rooted.
Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem. Mine is the 8010 stock not rooted. At first i thought it was because i use Swype. I took Swype off and then i purchased Swift Key for Tablets and still didn't work. I then went to the stock keyboard and same result.
I looked at various foroums and google search and no clear answer to be honest.

I'm not sure, but probably your problem is related with the notorious and infamous clipboard bug.
Here, here and here there's some more info.
did you try clearing the cache as all that you copy is stored in memory and never deleted so maybe it is full and causing the error

Looks like you've hit the nail on the head. Sucks there is no way to fix without a factory reset or rooting. I may try flashing the German JB ROM and see if that wipes the cache clear.
If it were just a cache issue, we'd try to wipe it by using the option included in the bootloader menu......
Was just thinking a cache may work as a stack...... and a stack should abide by the FIFO rule..... if so, it's pretty much unlikely to be full at all.....
Quick update. I used the Exyonus exploit app to root the device. Using Root Explorer I cleared everything in the data/clipboard folder, went back to the exploit app to unroot and the copy / paste function is back and my settings show a stock "normal" device. Took less than 5 minutes and worked like a charm.

The past three days i discovered i cannot copy and paste on my device. I can long hold and highlight but when i click to copy there s no confermation that it has copied. Because when i long hold to paste all i see is the clipboard button which does not paste.
Some apps are crashing becuse of the problem
I am running stock ics 4.04
Thanks for your help
I'm having the same problem. It was working just fine until a few days ago, its crashing the browser I am using and any apps I use when I attempt to copy and paste. I think the Samsung Galaxy 7.7 isn't up to par, I'm thinking of returning it because this doesn't make any sense.
I had the same problem....doing a factory reset will fix it...let me know if this works

someone plese help me!
i've got a samsung galaxy s2 hd lte (sgh-i757m)...and i'm having problems finding much information for my phone on here...i know its older, but i just got it...i finally managed to root it using a galaxy s3 sgh i757 root....here is my problem...i'm sooooo confused!....when i rooted it i kept the stock rom that was on there... ics 4.0.4....and it had the dialer and the contacts apk that i love...the one you can slide left or right to call or text....since then i've updated to cyanogenmod 9, and love all the features of it, but it looks like it has the jellbean contacts apk...the real ugly white one that can't swipe left to right to text ect....I've found some downloads of the old contacts apk, but am having no luck installing them!....I've even tied restoring to the old stock rom, then copying the contacts apk into the downloads file, then re-load cm9 and move the contacts apk into the system/apps folder to replace the one's already in there but no luck.....this is soooooo frustrating!.....
.i have to admit i'm a bit of a noob...but both my stock rom and the cm9 show as 4.0.4, so should the contact apk not be transferable???? and why are they different in the first place!!!....I've enabled unknown sources to allow third party apps, and i've changed permissions in the apk to rw-r--r-- and replaced the contacts apk then reboot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache then reboot, and nothing....then i've tried to install apk.......and it shows installing, and the working blue bar, then just says "application not installed"...wtf???...i'm so frustrated!....is there something i'm missing with the owner/groups thing?....i just really want to make this happen....i've spent at least 12 hours on it already.....
please help!!!!!!
