Going back to stock - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

What rom should i use? Stick with the regular GB or flash eaither barebones or valhala black?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app

If you're going back to stock, well there is one stock GB ROM, and the rest are not stock.
Plenty of threads here discussing the Gingerbread alternatives to stock Gingerbread. They've mainly been out for over a year, and rehashing the same information in another thread is unlikely to gain you any more insight than reading what has already been said.

Ahh, i just made the thread quick, should have said which rom, barebones or valhala, as ive read the threads on them im still unfamiliar with them, and are they based off stock gb?

Pretty much, yes. I would say a notable exception is Team Acid CM7 and its derivatives, which I believe is built from source.
There is a reasonable and mainly up-to-date overview of available SGS4G ROMs on the Wiki.

So far, I know about the USCC's official 2.1, the leaked USCC's 2.2 and the USCC's official 2.2.
Are there any custom 2.2/2.3 ROMs floating around?
Just posted my new rom for the ec10 update though it has to be flashed through CWM Recovery

I did but the topics are a little messy!
The ROMs say [ROM] at the beginning of the thread title. Pretty tricky.
Lol....no there are no 2.3 based roms out for the mesmerize at this moment but I'm sure we wont have that long of a wait
This really isn't a Development thread type of post. Posts like this should really be kept in the General area. We are getting too many general questions and posts that aren't related to development in here. This is one of the main reasons that it's getting more difficult to find posts that are actually useful.

Looking for sleek stable rom

Hey guys, im .....lucky? enough to have gotten 2.3.6 on my replacement phone and upgraded wifes infuse to to 2.3.6....its horrible....looking for a stable sleek rom to go to from here. Now id love a jb rom with all the bells and whistles but reading up on it its still being mafe which i understand. But with 4 kids work and in the army times limited to flash test glash test ect. Just curious on yall veiws of the many roms i see foating around.

Looking for a sleek, quick, stable, and eye candy is always amazing to have but gps/bt/stability is the main points. wife gets lost in the house sometimes :/ thanks and dont hit me woth a newb stick i checked before posting but on this horrible gb. Typing this has been a hassle

Many ICS roms are pretty stable and practically everything works.
I would suggest you look into uni-yuma-porn and remICS-UX .. those are my faves.
CM10 is absolutely amazing of course.. you can't beat the jelly beans
Gps works althought it causes a bit of lag when used, which would be a problem if you use it often. It's up to you really, what best fits your personal use

I don't think it matters...but don't hold me to that one issue you may have come across is rainbow recovery (discoloration or static like lines) which indicates you need GB boot loaders. But since you got official GB through Samsung Kies you should already have them (that's how I got mine)...Buuttttt!! Do you have root?

Try the method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081072
If that and superoneclick don't work for you, you may have to flash a pack through Odin that will give you root + cwm

Thanks. Could you provide links for getting the ROMS you recommend? When I go to the Cyanogen site, for example, they don't list the Infuse as a supported phone. So which one do you use to get the CM10?
Looking at the uni-yuma-porn it says to flash the Rom, then flash the GAPPS, but no clue on what GAPPS is or how to flash it.
You won't find it up in the cyanogenmod site. Our phone is not supported officially by them, but it has been developed unofficially. It works just as well as those official devices since it is build from the same repo.
All roms I mentioned are found right here on xda under infuse android development.
Gapps stands for google apps which includes the play store and many other apps such as the setup when you first boot your phone. They are often linked in every Rom that requires you flash them.

I believe the "flash gapps" is just the OP not updated. The early builds of uniporn the gapps had to be flashed separately but I believe they are included now

Just checking up on what everything is.
1. Cyanogen is an android custom firmware. -
2. aokp is an android custom rom base
3. porting simply changing the coding to fit from a similiar device to another
4. All the gb/ics/jb custom.roms.mainly run off altered and tailored versions of these 2.
5. odin used to flash and get a recovery in case of bricking.
6. clockworkmod (cwm) similar used for recovery.
So in essence from base of cyan firmware and aokp rom people make alterations and build platforms ex changing kernels, drivers, and cosmetics.
Hummm.... Believe im getting it..correct me if im wrong

Last time just tried MIUI and I can´t get the UI of ICS, Don´t remember what kind of version tired of MIUI though
Roms with aroma installers give you more options for you to customize the installation. Some frequent options are Gapps, kernels, additional apps and whatever the Chef decides to include.

A Stable ROM for SGS4G?

I am moving from Valhalla ROM and w'd like to ask for an expert opinion... Which one of the ROMs is 100% stable and bug free at the moment?
Not even stock GB is bug free. Here's a list of custom roms for you though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/List_of_ROMs
This question makes sense to me after flashing ROM's for different model phones. Though I will say our Dev's to a fantastic job explaining the ROM's in the OP and keeping the OP's detailed and up-to-date compared to the other forums I've used.
This is - in my opinion - the ROM with the least potential for issues, amazing battery life with great performance:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26464204
Even the GB ROMs (and especially the stock one) weren't "rock stable" by any stretch.
Most of the ICS ROMs that I have looked at are using the TeamAcid kernel. The stability of those are all going to be about the same as the changes tend to be in what is included or not, and the UI theming. Pick your flavor. I have been using AOKP for about a month now as a daily driver and find it more stable than the GB ROMs, the way I use my phone.
I personally prefer the KG4 modem over the KJ6 modem as it handles long SMS messages
sorry, too bad you cant flash anything. It is too unstable. Just Kidding LOL/
I'd flash a GB rom before ICBINB was made, because the reduced slim roms seem to be unstable for me. I'd stay on valhalla

I did it few days ago. Went from ICS back to GB. AntonX's Barebones ROM. Enjoying great battery life now, strong WiFi signal and absence of other bugs.
Personally, I'd stay with ICS, but I'm handing down this phone to my wife (got Galaxy Nexus, yay!). And she does not care much about bells and whistles, she needs a solid ROM she can count on. As much as I loved ICS, it's not there yet.
Can recommend Barebones, great ROM. Apart from the strange color for interface bars, but that's a minor thing, and after all tastes differ. Other than that, it's a great solid ROM.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
I went back to GB and the very next day I went back to ICS. I'm not far away from a charger ever and other than that the bugs are very minimal. I never really thought ICS was that big of a jump from GB but then getting so used to ICS and going back to GB it was night and day. I'd stay on ICS

And I need to update it... eh. so much to do.
Then I have newer version of blastoff v3 and an AOSP based rom coming soon. Which is still BML... for now.
I left ICS to go back to Valhalla FB. GB battery life is so much better. On Valhalla FB i lose 16% percent battery life in 11 hours of light usage .

I don't understand this thread. You're asking if you should go back to GB but you alteady did. Also, you gave the reasons. So what's the point?
ROMs, either Froyo, GB or ICS, as other works like mods and tweaks are there as options. You don't have to use anything. If you like something you try it and if you don't like it then switch to another thing. If ICS doesn't work because of battery, then go to GB.
I see no reason to create a thread for this. What's your point OP?

Hello thanks for reply
Can you send me the link to well stable CM7 or ICS rom?also are they different(I'm really dumb in this)? And method to flash.
I'm sorry man but your basically asking me to give you every piece of information necessary in order to flash a custom ROM. All of this information can be found in the stickies of the various G2X forums. It is apparent that you are not quite knowledgeable enough yet for me to suggest that you flash your phone. I suggest reading the stickies and learning everything there is to know about flashing this phone. All of the information is available to you here on this forum. I will however recommend CM7 as it is a stable and newb friendly ROM to start with. I would download the latest weekly at get.cm . As far as flashing methods are concerned you need to use Clockwork Mod Recovery. There are many threads about it and a bundle of information dedicated to CWM Recovery in the stickies of this forum. Please read them.

there's no such thing as stable. You want stable? Stick to 2.3.4.
CM7 is 2.3.4 (or 2.3.3, depending) GB and is absolutely stable. No reason or advantage to staying stock with this device unless blue tooth phone audio is a necessity.
Latest CM7 is 2.3.7... I'm using the March 2013 version.

CM7 is absolutely stable as Pain said, and he is right. If you think CM7 is not stable go look up stable in the dictionary. CM7 is not perfect, but very much stable. I also believe its only a baseband issue where CM7 has the Bluetooth issue (old baseband works fine, new one doesn't).

Yeah, Idk why I said that lol, I was thinking about the baseband differences from 2.3.3 and 2.3.4, not the android versions =x
and Eve, it all depends on what you recognize as stable. I don't use nor do I wish to use blue tooth functions for calling purposes. So for me not having that option does not subtract from the "stability" of CM7. I am still able to use bluetooth for media purposes which I rarely do anyway. CM7 offers plenty of customization and options for your phone that you cannot possibly have if it is stock. For a first time user coming from stock software, CM7 will make you feel like you have a brand new device!
