[SOLVED] Bricked my Transformer.... - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi all,
I had my Transformer up and running on CM10 when I decided to give Asus JB a try this morning. As a preparation I tried to switch from TWRP to CWM. So I followed the instructions here using dd in a terminal on my tablet. After this I tried rebooting into recovery (Power + VolDown).
But I didn't work, it took me directly to a message saying "OS will cold boot in 10 Seconds if the selected mode is not confirmed". I had the choice between wiping and fastboot.
So I went into fastboot and tried to reinstall TWRP using fastboot. This worked withoud errors but after a reboot to recovery I got the same problem. When I choosed wipe date the splash screen from TWRP came up for a few seconds and then it disappeared and I shows me some lines telling me that it wiped my data - and then the device reboots.
A normal reboot led me to a screeen showing the ASUS Logo and the "The device is UnLocked" in the upper left corner. And nothing more happens...
So tried to reinstall CWM using fastpath which also worked without problems. After reboot still no direct access to CWM, had to go through wipe-data again and then it jumped into CWM. I installed several different Images with CWM but none of them solved that problem. The device still istn't able to boot into OS or direct into CWM.
I also tried to flash the blob file from stock firmware using fastboot, but after the transfer ended and it startet to flash it stopped with an red line saying an error occured.
Now I'm running out of ideas how to solve this problem. Any ideas?

If you have working fastboot maybe i can help you, what's your bootloader version?

I'm not sure, is there a way to see the version?

ok,let me put it this way,did you ever upgraded to 9.4.5.30 firmware?

No, not before my tablet got bricked. I tried to recover with a stock Rom afterwards and accidentally downloaded and flashed .30 instead of .26
Maybe this makes things worse but the problem is not caused by that.
Btw: thank your for your support

Did you used NvFlash tool while you were on .26?Anyway you should come here on irc --> http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=asus-transformer <--- it's easier to chat than here on forum.

No, I stupid idiot did not make a backup with nvflash.
I really appreciate your support but unfortunately I'm not at home anymore so I can't chat for the next hours.

Have you try this :
Code:
*** Factory Restore after a softbrick/Downgrade from Jelly Bean to ICS/Clean Factory Restore ***
When You Need This?
* if you get stuck on Asus boot screen (the one with the spinning wheel)
* If you don't like JB and you want ICS back
* if you want to get back to a clean stock firmware
Note: You need to have a working recovery (stock or custom) in order to use this method.
========= Recover /Downgrade from Jelly Bean to ICS/Clean Factory Restore with stock recovery =========
1) Download the latest firmware from Asus site (based os your SKU,eg. ww 9.4.5.26 * to downgrade from Jelly Bean you need the 9.4.5.30 firmware)
2) Extract the .zip file somewere on your desktop (the result will be another .zip file, use it for step 3)
3) Rename the extracted archive to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE" (without the " ") and upload it to a MicroSD card
4) Insert the MicroSD card in your tablet and use this button combination to Power ON and go to recovery --> Start the tablet by pressing Volume Down and POWER togheter for 5 seconds ,a message will inform you that you have 5 seconds to enter the recovery, press Volume UP before the 5 seconds expire.
At this point the device will go in recovery and should start updating your firmware .

Yes. I tried this but it does not work. When I start with pressing Power and VolumeDown the system only lets me choose between wipe data and fastboot mode. It does not recognize any system update files

Problem solved...
Hi,
just to let you know I solved my problem. After trying a lot of different possible solutions described in a lot of threads nothing worked for me. Finally I flashed JellyBean through CWM from external SD Card. This did not change anything but after booting into fastboot mode I installed the kernel blob extracted from a zip file found here by using
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash boot blob
And that's it.... after 10 hours of try and error I finally got my device up and running again....

[Q] Help needed - Stuck on boot screen.

Posted this issue in the [RECOVERY][NONTOUCH][JB] ClockWorkMod Recovery v6.0.1.4 thread. (See quotes.) No need to spam that thread further, so i'll move it here :fingers-crossed:
Failed to flash CWM-touch via fastboot. Tried to reboot and now I'm stuck on boot screen. I can't boot into recovery, only fastboot.
Tried to re-flash official cwm-recovery, but it stopped right after the progress bar came up..

Found out i can also access recovery mode (CWM 6.0.1.3) via the 'wipe data' option.
I have tried to restore backup from recovery, and re-flash rom, but when rebooting it stops at ASUS (Inspiring Innovation...) boot screen.

I managed to flash the 6.0.1.4 CWM recovery zip-file. Then i flashed the .30 update with no errors.
I'm still stucked at the bootscreen.

Installed new ASUS firmware (10.4.4.16) from CWM recovery, everything seemed fine while flashing.

So, no matter what i do it won't boot.
I have the nvflash files stored.
Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Just commenting to say that I am having the same problem. In fact this problem has got me so stumped I actually decided to register instead of lurk around hoping to find the answer. My problem may be slightly different however, while apparently stuck at the boot screen, my Transformer is actually entering fastboot mode directly from boot. Finally, I will add I place the blame on myself because I didn't read the original thread to see that the 6.0.1.4 recovery is for JB systems.
Well, something similar happened to me. Didn't read enough and installed CWM 6.0.1.3, try to do a factory reset through the wipe data in fastboot, and now my tablet only boots into CWM 6.0.1.3 which doesn't even work - Vol+ and Vol- buttons don't help me move through the menu.
If you have any ideas please let me know - and no, I don't have a nvflash backup, only a normal CWM one which I don't know how to restore :|
I wanted to post that I finally got my tf700 working. I don't know which steps are necessary but I'm going to post all I did.
1. Download latest jb build from ASUS
2. From Recovery wipe system data and cache
3. From Recovery flash the jb rom US_epad-user-10.4.4.16.zip
4. Reboot into fastboot
5. Download stock jb kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919961
6. Extract blob file from zip
7. Run this command
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash boot blob
8. System rebooted automatically and said it recognized the signature and flashed the kernel. At this point the boot screen show "Device is unlocked" again. And holding down power and volume let me get to recovery directly
9. From Recovery flash the jb rom US_epad-user-10.4.4.16.zip (I had to do this step again)
10. Reboot system and it booted into jb

Give us some more info about your setup, what version you're on (.26, .30, JB), can you access stock recovery? How did you try to recover?

Perhaps you could try to fastboot flash the TWRP 2.2.2.2 recovery for your Infinity (either 32GB or 64GB model). I'm pretty sure it says it can be used with ICS and JB bootloaders.

Or at the last step, instead of reflashing the ASUS JB update, you could flash the CleanROM v1.3 and you will have rooted, stock-based JellyBean with everything working!

I will add that prior to getting it working I tried flashing all the available recoveries trying to get my tablet working again. In the end it seems that the important steps to getting my tablet working were flashing stock jelly bean and then the stock kernel separately. Once I had done those 2 steps probably could have flashed any available ROM. Fortunately at this point I'm pretty good at flashing recoveries through fastboot so I have no doubt I'll be able to get custom ROM working again.

To get into fastboot mode, it's the following combination;
- Press [vol-] + [power]
- As soon as the tablet vibrates, let go [power] then cycle your rotation lock button left and right till you see the the text start to appear.
Unless you;re going to try and fastboot a system image setup or recovery image or another boot.img, not sure what you wish to accomplish.
I would guess you would be better off installing maybe the GB full version JellyBean update.
Also, I understand there,s a a700 ICS service rom out there somewhere. That might help you also.
But these are just guesses at this point.
What would help, is to know exactly what you did to get yourself into this situation. Like What root procedure from what post? If you tried one of the ICS Boot.image flashes, when you had JB updated, well, no wonder it borked up. If that's the case, it's simple just to fastboot a JB Boot.img back in.
So which thread did you get the root procedure from EXACTLY?
One more thing, this thread belongs in Q&A Forum, so I put in a request to have it moved.

Sorry for dont put my thread into the Q&A Forum. It was a mistake. Sorry again
My situation is: "like i remember" i tried to make the root with the "flash-ICS-patchedBoot.bat".....i know that BAT is for ICS and not for JB but i take that mistake doing the thing really fast.
Ok...i need them to get the fastboot with the JB Boot.img like you said.
The JB Boot.img is into the Rom??? because i saw the boot.img into the JB update.zip
Can u tell me the command to get that flash? Is "fastboot flash boot boot.img"?
Thks for ur patience

It's no problem.
So you fastbooted an ICS boot.img on a JB rom
So, you need to see if you can manually get it into fastboot mode with the procedure I pointed out above (note it will probably wipe your user data, but who cares)
If you get it in fastboot mode, verify via windows device manager, then just put a JB Boot image in there. I have a little package in my Boot.image thread Full /System RW-Root. Don't use the boot mage in it, as it's for a 701. Just copy your JB boot.image in there and fastboot it. You have the correct command.
Verboth has a new rom, that contains an unsecure boot.img for the 700 JB. You can use that one also. It's what you were trying to do originally, just with a wrong image (ICS)
The reason ADB doesn't see it, is because the system isn't running. The newer CWM recoveries should have adb enabled through CWM, but I don't think you put that in yet.
Hopefully you'll get it fastbooted.

Okay, so since I just did this, I'm going to try and give you a "how to" on how I fixed it...
MD and pawitp both are the authorities on this, but I think this will help and I a, sure they will correct me where I go wrong.
First, use the manual process for getting your A700 in fastboot.. power button + down vol, wait for the first buzz then release only the power button, wait for the second buzz then press the up volume button. Your tab should now be in fastboot mode.
Connect it to your computer.
Get a copy of the proper recovery image "recovery-a700-6015" and the following ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952124) and save them to a directory where you can find it easily.
Pull the SD card from your tab and put the ROM from above in the base directory and put it back in your tab.
From the c prompt on your computer use the following fastboot command:
Fastboot devices
----#make sure that the computer sees your a700
Fastboot boot <save directory>recovery-a700-6015.img
----#your tab will reboot into CMR Recovery
In recovery format system, data, cache, dalvik
Still in recovery install the ROM from your external SD card.
The Aroma Installer will guide you through it, but make sure you tell it to install the new firmware.
Reboot.
You should be on the stock rooted ACER Great Britain release.
From there you can download and install CM10 (which is what I did), or any other ROM you would like.

Hello everybody,
I think I have NOT exactly the same problem but very similar.
Let me explain how I got there:
I had JB bootloader and CM11 installed for long and working fine.
Last days I tried out the CM12.1 unofficial rom with successful installation.
I noticed that the camera focus was not working. Usually I never use the camera and was not sure if it worked before. So I went back to CM11 to look if it is rom dependent. In CM11 it still was not working and I went back to stock. The stock rom I found was Android 4.0.4 and I tried to make OTA update what showed me a “not allowed to your device” –error.
However, at this moment I was quite sure that the camera focus is a hardware defect and wanted to go on testing the new CM12.1. I installed it again from CWM recovery and it was not booting anymore.
The problem is, that the stock rom flashed an ICS bootloader which is not compatible anymore. I also cannot boot into recovery anymore but fastboot is working.
Power-On:
shows Bootloader Version ICS-MR1-a055314 (Unlock Mode) and nothing more
Power-On + Vol.Down:
Bootloader Version ICS-MR1-a055314 (Unlock Mode)
Erasing Cache before SD update…
SD update cnd: recovery
--update_package=SDCARD:update.zip
Booting recovery kernel image
Then for just a second CWM is shown:
CWM-based Recovery v6.0.5.1
Finding update package
E:unknown volume for path [SDCARD:update.zip]
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
Rebooting...
Then it holds on Bootloader Version ICS-MR1-a055314 (Unlock Mode)
I could not find any button combination to boot something else.
What I tried and what did not make any changes:
Flashing the recovery.img again
Erase userdata, cache, system
Please help me to boot up recovery again and flash a JB bootloader and new rom.
Thanks and kind regards,
Gandlz
Well, in between I found a solution and can answer my own question now:
The trick is to flash the CWM Recovery not to the recovery partition but to the boot partition. (fastboot flash boot recovery.img)
After restarting the tablet it boots directly into CWM Recovery.
I found a newer stock rom with jelly bean android and installed it to come back to JB-Bootloader. Now I could install CM10.2 CM11 or CM12.1 again.
The stock rom is from a german forum:
android-hilfe.de/thema/a700-zurueck-aufs-deutsche-stock-rom-flashen-anleitung-imagefile.329590
By the way: I’m running CM10.2.1 and it is very much faster than CM11 or CM12.1. I don’t need the newer features and like the old design even more. And also the camera focus is working now, so it is definitely a software issue with newer CM versions.
Best regards,
Gandlz

Hi guys,
So this is my first post but I've been on XDA for a long time. I've been looking for an answer to this problem, and I haven't been successful in finding a post that regards to my situation...
Ok so I just got my tablet today. I upgraded to JB and then I unlocked it using the asus unlocker. I attempted to install TWRP, but when I use .blob files and attempt to load into recovery it didn't work. Anyway, I looked around and I installed CWM recovery instead.
I installed v5.5.0.4 following this guide:
http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/25/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-asus-transformer-tf300t/
Now, I notice it's written back in may of 2012 aka before jelly bean... anyway so I installed this using fast boot, and booted into recovery and it worked. I believe I installed the ICS version of CWM. I tried to install Clean Rom v3.3 and I just get bootloops. I can still boot into fastboot and clockwork mod fine.
I tried to install v6.0.1.4 via this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846554
But once again if I boot into recovery it just does nothing and reboots after a few seconds.
I re-installed v5.5.0.4 and I can wipe data/install everything just as I normally would, and I still have access to Fastboot. Can I get some help on how I can 1 install the correct CWM and 2 install a working rom? I don't think I bricked my device just yet since I can still flash in fastboot etc.
Thanks guys!
You cant't wipe data from bootloader menu, If you do that, you will get unrecoverable brick.
Sorry I believe I mislead you -> I wiped data from within CWM.
Anyway, I used this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757077
I went back to stock and I think i'll stay there for a little while longer, this process made me nervous (I've rooted my thunderbolt, droid DNA, galaxy tab 2 7" and my friends phones) so anyway I believe I installed the wrong CWM and that caused errors trying to install a JB rom on a ICS CWM... If you have any insight let me know...

My suggestion is to flash the latest stock JB blob.
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
Once you get it sorted then flash the latest twrp for jb.
Now, when I try flashing blobs and I go to boot into RCK (I believe that's the term...) it just reboots the tablet instead of booting into recovery.
Android software is out of my element, if this was some C (somewhat similar to C) or Matlab I would better understand (I'm a senior Mechanical Engineer in college)
Edit:
Ah didn't see your post. I did what you recommended, and actually, while my device said it was on 4.1.1 JB, when I hold pwr/vol down I see a completely different menu now than last time, so I wonder if perhaps my OTA didn't correctly load everything from the firmware update hmm...

The same way you flashed cwm.
Windows? Start - in search type cmd - press enter
In the cmd window cd to the directory with fastboot.
Hook cable between tablet and usb port on computer.
On tablet hold power and volume down till you see the bootloader menu.
Down volume till you are at the usb symbol - then volume up.
This should put you into fastboot mode - use the commands above.
Wait till the first command completes before you give the second command.
[INDEX][04 Feb 2013]TF300T & TG-INDEX of Roms/Dev Guides/Kernels/Recoveries/etc. You will find the stock firmware here as well as most other needs.
You will have to unzip to get the blob which you should place in the directory with fastboot.
Thank you very much.
So after flashing the most resent blob, I successfully installed CWM recovery and successfully flashed a rom. I'm not sure what the issue was before. Thank you for the help! much appreciated.

You're welcome.

[Q] How to get TWRP to display in correct resolution?

Been working on updating to JB 4.2 and wound up in a boot loop . Did successfully flash -TF700_421_US_BootRec_Flasher_Signed.zip and was previously unlocked and rooted with 4.1.
The problem now is that TWRP 2.5 is in a resolution that only allows half of the
buttons and options and options to show on the screen. Also re-flashed with -
openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf700t.blob and tried with a few 2.4 versions with
same results. This makes it impossible to install any ROM to get out of the boot loop.
Any suggestions?

How about try to reflash the 4.2.1 bootloader and twrp using one package zip file? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223492
Thanks for the reply.
That is exactly what I did first with the results mentioned in OP. Will give it another try,
that's why it is a little baffling.
Ok. I've fastbooted the blob from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223492
successfully and am back to TWRP 2.5.0.0 but the resolution problem remains. So I am still boot
looping directly into a recovery I cannot use.
Can I use fastboot to flash the blob from TF700T_US_epaduser_V1061144UpdateLauncher to at least
return to a functional state and try to fix my TWRP problem latter?

Yeah, it's a good idea, flash back stock firmware to get back stock recovery, root the device then download goomanager from the market then try to install twrp again. I think your recovery bootloader maybe messup(reflash recovery from stock rom should address this issue).
I appreciate your input. Being somewhat new to android need some additional guidance.
Would renaming the stock 4.2 zip file to update.zip and issuing the update command work or is it
more complex?

That's incremental update. You want a full upgrade.
Alright, what wood be the proper way to proceed?
Sorry I need some hand holding.

Alternative Firmware update Method: download full firmware from Asus web site.
1. Unzip the downloaded file (it will be another .zip)
2. Rename it to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
3. Format FAT32 the MicroSD card that you will be using for the update process
4. Copy the file to (the root directory of) your MicroSD
5. Insert it into the tablet
6. Shutdown (power off) the tablet
7. Power it on by pressing and holding VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons simultaneously
8. When you see white text in the top left corner of the screen, release the buttons ^^ and press VOLUME UP button twice
9. Wait patiently for 10 minutes or so and Done.
Thanks, will give it a try after work.
Also, I should preview my posts b4 submitting for spelling.
Well I think I've found part of the problem. I had to flash a CWM recovery to install the
official 4.2 update successfully. Going into settings I found that my device model has somehow been
change to a TF 300t from the correct TF700t. I believe this may be the cause of my TWRP resolution
problems.
I have no clue how this occurred. But, I do need some suggestions on correcting this.
On a side note booting into recovery now results in a dead robot. I will tackle this once the model reporting is
corrected

I suggest you should reflash the full Asus firmware which included the rom and bootloader. Just make sure you download the right version for your tf700 and the correct SKU and you are sure that you have the tf700 right? not the tf300!!
Yes it is definitely a TF700. I will try the re-flash of official 4.2.

[Guide]Flash TF300T Rom manually on Locked Bootloader ON JB 4.2.1 !!

Dear all users of TF300T.
If you are using Stock ROM (Rooted/Non Rooted) and are bricked or stuck on ASUS boot screen. Then this guide is for you.
As i was using stock ROM (ROOTED) with Locked boot loader without custom recovery and my tf300t was Sofbricked due to wrong configurations at Display Pixel scaling and also reformat did not work for me.!
So i thought to create this guide which may help people out here It worked for me Try your LUCK.
Sorry if i am re posting i did not got any guides out here...
If this helped you please give me a Thumbs up.!
Steps:-
1 Download the latest ROM from ASUS website Which matches your SKU.(Important).
It would look somehing like this (TF300T-TW_epad-10_6_1_15_3-UpdateLauncher . zip)
2 Extract it and rename that file to ( EP201_768_SDUPDATE . zip )
3 Now copy this new renamed file to SDCARD (Root of sd card).
4 Now Press and hold Volume Down + Power for a few seconds. Then you will see the ASUS recovery options.
5 Now Press the 1 option from the left (RCK) by pressing Vol+ 2 times and let it flash the ROM from scratch.
WARNING:- You will loose all data in the internal space!
Now wait for a few minutes. It will flash the ROM.
And wola! Your TF300T will again work fine!!
Any suggestions and comments are most welcomed!

For #5, do we select RCK or something else? When I select RCK and push vol+ twice, I just get the bootloader issue 0x00000000.

What problem exactly are you facing?? Can you boot into android??
Do u have CWM recovery or TWRP??
Did u follow all steps?? r u using the same SKU as u r tablet??
The problem I am facing is that I do not have a recovery working. I cannot access recovery at all. I was trying to update the tablet by downloading the official firmware and placing it on the root of the sdcard. But it wont recognize the update when in Android. (I can boot into Android.)
HI
I think then try to re flash your recovery first using fast bot method...then try this guide again..
or the last option is send to ASUS..:silly::silly::silly:
Is this method work with every firmware, and is it work on me301t?
Sent from my ME301T using xda premium
After Update 7-29-13
Similar problem 300t does'nt go past the asus startup screen, when i tried to do a wipe and restore it just goes back to the asus load screen (with spinning circle)and sits and spins, so then I tried reinstalling from micro sd card using the trick where u rename the file to EP201 after trying to reinstall the newest version and an earlier version from the microsd and got the dead android (same results for both )and when I use recovery I get the android guy and loading bar and he fall over dead with error, but when turning it back on, everything goes back to the stuck loading screen. If you connect the tablet to a pc it says usb driver install failed and if you try to force driver install through device manager, the driver install completes but then says the device cannot start. asus sync does not see it , I want to try to put the ep201 file in the SDCARD folder in the internal sdcard but cannot perform this because the pc cannot see the tablet. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. The un rooted tablet Was running 4.2 just fine before i tried the new ota update 7-29-2013 and thats when this happened , I tried to call Asus, since my warrenty had expired last month they said they would fix it , but it would cost me .....i explained that their update is what made it unusable, but they didnt say anything about that fact. and told me the same .... if you have a idea or have solved the same issue PLEASE post
Thanks
