Okay, so my phone had been connecting to data and then just dropping within a minute and try to reconnect and so on, so I sent it into Samsung. It turns out, all they did was take the update that Samsung had put out while they had my phone and said it was fixed. It may have seemed fixed to them, but it is definitely not. It seems as though it only happens when I'm in a 3G only area which is where I live so I basically cannot use my data at all. I know it works when I leave where I live because I went to Los Angeles last month and my 4G and my 3G were working fine. I just don't understand it. I know it's not because my area has bad 3G coverage cause it's fine. I'm just so flustered. Any help?

Looks like tower problem to me since it works fine in town.
Flash every modem available to see if you can find one that works with your 3G tower. Have seen older radios that worked better with 3G due to the towers being old tech. Since the phone and radios are new may not be able to find radio that works consistently. The 4G will work with with any 4G tower. If not able to get 3G contact Verizon and put in a ticket on your local tower. Hope this makes sense.

All radios are on Rootzwiki. If radios don't work call them back. Nothing wrong with phone if works in town although also depends how far you are from tower. If any Verizon phone works you have a case for upgrade of tower or phone. If just at home may give you extender. Do not let them charge you for it.

This device is solid on 4g and when in a 3g only area...soon as you get to a area where the data switches between 4g/3g/1x it becomes flaky at best no doubt. Beans rom seems to have the most stable data connection whem Im on the outskirts of a solid 4g signal...it is a device issue that should be fixed with a software update at some point. The problem is its easier for verizon to release a device with bugs, then to spend the extra time and cash to R&D and fix them before release date. I know it does not make sense, but think about it from there end. Lets say VZW has a device thats 90% bug free, so they release it to start locking people in on new contracts and rake in the money hoping folks dont complain about minor issues. If folks do comlain, well then vzw will run you thru the mill and send you a refurb, or open a claim ticket...by then after enough time has elapsed and no issue is fixed, they most likely will discontinue the device andoffer you a different one, passing the customer on to a whole new set of problems. Welcome to America, where its a dog eat dog world and we are all wearing milkbone undies.

OK so I need some help . . . . . after flashing a new ROM/kernel, I noticed that my network service was insanely poor. I thought it had to do with the new ROM but now after I have tried every which way of flashing and reflashing, I still have the issue. I used Speedtest to see what kind of DL speeds I was getting and I am usually in double digit kbps, 114kbps is my top. My wifes Acclaim regularly gets 600+ to the same server. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I may have screwed up or how I can go about fixing it? Everything works fine in WiFi btw.
Thanks in advance.
Fixed: Somehow I managed to get knocked off my 3G service. Called USCC tech support and they were able to turn it back on for me.

Try updating your prl. Dial *228 when at home and not roaming. Follow the prompts and wait for it to update. Should help and really can't hurt.

Well it's starting to look like I should start think about buying a new phone. I have tried everything within my ability and nothing. In a last ditch effort, where could I find a flashable radio that I could use just to make sure it is installed correctly?

I did flash back to 2.1 and the data issues remain. The PRL on my phone and my wife's Acclaim are both 15110, but she gets 3G service and I don't. It also takes over a minute for my 1x service to load after turning off wifi. Also, If I force EVDO, I will get a "3G" banner at the top of the screen, but data does not work and the banner eventually goes away.
Additionally, is it normal to get a Verizon voice when you *228 while roaming? Because that is what I got when I was roaming yesterday. I have to believe that flashing Fascinate software has something to with it.
You could check the efs clear box in odin. I know it has something to do with service. I did that once in my vibrant by mistake. Are you dialing 911 in your home area? It needs to be in a uscc home area same with *228. The efs clear might break your phone worse so.......

Yes, which is why I said do it while NOT roaming. If you completed the *228 while roaming on Verizon you basically connected your phone to their network not USCC's.

I did the *228 at home while not roaming. When I got the Verizon thing while roaming I just hung up I never went through any kind of programming. This was well after things went awry anyways.
I believe this all started a few days ago when I tried flashing the ComaVolt kernel. I got a boot loop and had to do a battery pull. I then flashed dfgas's superclean port and I thought everything was working fine until I got out of wifi the next day and noticed my network service was aweful.

So, it's been more than a month now since I have not been able to get a solid 3G connection in my area where there is no 4G. Last time I asked no one was really able to help, so I thought I try again. If I turn on my data, it usually takes a while for it to connect and once it does, it stays connected for about 30 seconds to a minute. Sometimes it's longer, but it always drops eventually. Sometimes it has the 3G icon, but nothing happens still. It's a beezy to try and send or receive a picture message. The only time I ever use Internet now is if I have Wifi. I sent it into Samsung, got it back more than a week later and all they did was take the update the GS3 received while they had it. It seems as though if I'm in a 4G area, the data works fine, but other than that, it's almost nonexistent. Can anyone help me, please?

I don't know what to say bro. Is it just your area? How does your phone do on other areas? If it works in other areas then it's just bad service in your area? How does someone else's phone act around your house. You should compare it to another phone and see if that one loses data.

Have you tried any modem swaps? Comparing service on hour Samsung to say a Motorola or an iPhone will make you pull your hair out. I fell into it as well. My wife's iPhone wouldnt drop 3g and my old Motorola got great service in the same spot my s3 would drop signal/go to 1x.
Things really got ****ed up when I went to an area with 4g. Watching my phone, with 4 bars of 4g drop to 3g then to 1x, to no service at all for a few minutes then repeat the process over and over again made me RAGE!

Hi everyone, I'm running CM10.0.0 Skyrocket with UCLD2 modem. I live in Jupiter, FL and when I am traveling through town and pass through areas that switch between HSPA, 3G, and 4G, I often have to toggle airplane mode to get data back. Is this due to my radio? I was doing research in the forum about the various radios and I couldn't find a definitive comparison of the various modems to each other with a chronology of release. I'd guess that newer modems are better, but then I read that sometimes that's not the case. Anyone care to weigh in on why I lose data connection when traveling through different data zones? btw i checked my APN settings and theyre fine.
I too run into the same issue but when I'm at work I know that if you running jb data loss has been known to be an issue with it yes the newer the modem can potentially fix or issue depending on situation best option is test

Just an update, things still seem good with CI3 compared to my old radio. Only thing I notice is it doesn't really like 4G data, it'll say 4G and have good bars, and I can make and receive calls fine. But if I go online it'll stall, and I'll watch it struggle and then swap to H+ and be fine. That’s the only remaining quirk. Not sure why it's doing that.

You can find the blaze baseband here, I'm using the newest T989 and signal seems better.
If you lose signal after flashing the radio you want a reboot usually helps or you may have to get the correct APN.

hows that 989d telus modem running for you? I am guessing that the reason the other modem software is working is cause the hardware is similar or same between some of these phones right? is there a way to find out what chip sets are on these phones to get an Idea of what other firmware works on some of these phones? the T989UVMC6 seems to help my charge time a little and dose seem a little faster on download speeds but still nervous about causing any long term problems but there is no signs of overheating or running flaky so I guess it should be fine.
thanks
I have done some preliminary testing with the UVMB1 and UVMC6 radios and have some very definitive results. There's a speedtest.net server where I live so there shouldn't be too much variance here. I have done some other testing with the other radio (the t989d) with mixed results. The t989d radio is very inconsistent where I live.
The UVMB1 is the first three results, and the UVMC6 is the next three. Pretty conclusive to me. I will be on the UVMC6 from here on
I'm also using the UVMC6 and it does seem to give me a stronger signal. I should probably run a test and get some "official" results.

been running all day with UVMC6 almost 14 hours and still 64% battery and I used my phone a lot today listening to Pandora radio for almost an hour and 4 or 5 phone calls and played on the web a little. I think I am safe to say it improved battery but I rarely loose much signal in KCMO so I cant say that signal is better but I may have seen more H+ than I normally see. my home has steel siding so I dont see as much H+ when inside but it seems to have been H+ most of the time I checked today.
and again thanks for sharing with the rest of us on this information, it has improved the quality of my phone so many thanks
Welcome, I found it when had my skyrocket and figured I'd try it out. It does seem to make signal stronger and battery. The 989D was ok just didn't hold signal to long
