[Q] wifi issues after installing custom roms - HTC Sensation

i seem to have come into a problem while installing custom ROMs. i have so far been successful in unlocking, rooting, changing CID and installing custom ROMs but my problem is when i do install a rom i find that my wifi doesnt connect it either says that its is searching for wifi or it just stays blank. i have installed so far for different roms, 2 where stable CM builds.
i have read a thread where someone had the same problem and a user here requested he tried different kernels, i have flashed 2 kernels and still no luck.
P.S wifi was working while it was on stock root.
i have an sensation XE and right have a CM10 nightly rom installed with a kernel belong to the same provider. i have no idea what to do next in order to resolve this.
I apologize in advance if a similar post has already been made but i wasnt able to find it after researching on different terms and checking the similar thread results that came up as soon as i posted this title.

Maybe RIL doesnt match (just an idea). Try with Getril from the store and see if it works.

or install the wifix manager.it helped a lot of people

S-On??
I don't know if yours is the same issue but I recently had problems with WiFi not switching on with custom ROMs.
I use Bruce's CM10 ROM and all was well with WiFi up to and including version 24/09. However versions after that gave me the WiFi problem.
Turns out that it was because I was still S-On and using ClockworkMod as my recovery tool.
I installed the 4ext recovery tool (which has a Smartflash default option for S-On users) from Google Play and, having restored to a ROM where WiFi worked, flashed my ROM of choice and now have no problem with WiFi at all.
I'm now running the latest CM10 ROM from Bruce, 3/10, and it's absolutely brilliant!
Hope this helps

Well first things first. Make sure that the kernel your using supports the operating system the rom uses. Sense rom only works with sense kernel and aosp rom only works with aosp kernels. Ics only works with Ics kernel and etc

Dugyc, I don't think that's the case with me.... Cause even with previous CM builds I couldn't get the wifi to work, back then I thought it was because the build was still fresh so bugs were definitely going to be there. Instead I just stuck myself with a root stock rom instead.

Blahbl4hblah, I don't think that was the problem cause when I flashed the CM10 rom, I also flash the kernel for CM10 which was provided by the developer.

Provide a logcat to the developer then. Reporting an issue doesn't help you or anyone who may experience it without a logcat

ICS or GB?
Before you rooted and flashed ROM to your Sensation, which version of Android were you using?
Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich?
ps. If you're not using 4ext as your recovery tool, I suggest you try it, it fixed my WiFi problem, which sounds very similar to yours, even though some Custom ROMs worked for me.

Looking for an AOSP rom...

Hi, so I'm looking for a rom that is Sense-free, allows blutooth to work with Sixaxis controller, allows Wifi-Hotspots, and doesn't have any audio routing issues. I currently run CyanogenMod 9 but I'm growing more and more annoyed of the Audio routing problems. Is there anything out there that will truly satisfy my needs? I'm starting to wonder.
Roms I've tried:
Virtuous Quatro and Inquisition. Both did not work because they had Sense hidden in their roms.
ARHD 6.6.7: Did not work because it was already a sense rom (This was my first rom)
CyanogenMod 9: Works with the things stated above, but I'm growing annoyed of the audio routing issues.
So is there a rom out there for me? Or will I just have to wait until a more stable CM9 to come out? Let me know, thanks.
jDrOid's ROMs
Try JDroid Exodized ROM (Without Sense) its an AOSP ROM, wish i can post links,
download it from this site: hox . jdr0id . com
Hope that helps.

That's Sense based
All proper AOSP roms are CM9 based atm, so will have the audio routing problems unfortunately
I've been looking up CM 7 Rom, I found one that looks good. SuperSensation. Do I need to do anything special to flash it on?
I dont really know about you guys, but i am running OpenSensation for like 2 weeks, and never had audio routing problems. But, instead, the battery drains like hell.

Cm7 is Android 2.3 and is dated. I think you'll need to be on a specific firmware to use it, in not sure which
I'd rather have a fully working rom than buggy or broken. Can someone let me know what firmware are you need to run? I have the latest and need to know if I need downgrade.
Have you tried going to any apps that require a microphone? And heavily draining battery is very bad I use this phone all day..

you need to be s-off'ed and downgrade the firmware to hboot 1.17 because cm7 is a GB ROM. Grab the 1.17 firmware here and follow the instructions to flash it here but using the hboot 1.17 file instead

[Q] Darkforest Stuck At Beats Logo?

Hi
I've just tried to do a install of the Darkforest custom rom - version 6.1.0.
Im running Hboot 1.27.1111 and am S-OFF I'm using the clockworkmod recovery
I've installed the update.zip via clockworkmod and the rom seems to have installed okay - i've done the superwipe etc too - but now when i turn the phone on it starts to load upto the beats logo and then doesn't get past that point?
Anyone have any answers for me please?
The only answer I've got is: I have tried flashing it last week, had the same problem, couldn't solve it and used another ROM.
Every ROM works fine on my device, but Darkforest didn't.
install 4ext recovery and try to flash it again.see if it works
best wishes
Guys, please read maybe the last 4-6 pages on the thread. Known issue and I've only had a sensation for 4 days now (and 2 of them don't count because I've been at work or out) meaning I haven't had a chance to debug it yet. Latest stable version is 6.6.0

I actually have similar problems
Hello. Actually, I'm having very similar problems as you. In my case, after trying all combinations of custom ROMs (dark forest included) firmwares, etc, I'd found that I'm unable to boot ANY sense-based rom, even though they all successfully install without any issues. I then attempted to install aosp and aokp based roms and to my surprise, it worked flawlessly! I know for a fact it's not a software or installation issue because I repeated each attempt on my sister's Sensation 4g and it had zero problems my particular phone experienced. As of right now, I'm totally stumped as to why this is happening, but I guess I'm lucky that I could still function running Touchcream 2.1 or CM9. Please try more combinations of roms and fw to see if you're having similar problems. If you do, then there's a possibility that we're having hardware issues.

Wifi Authentification Problem

Morning All,
I really need your help today. I recently purchase the HTC one S (Ville) and I decided to wipe all the T mobile bloatware and put one of this wonderful ROM's that you guys have developed, well I'm able to use my phone, my data plan works good i have no issues except that my Wi-Fi is not connecting to the internet not matter where it is, if it is a home or in a public cafe or the office when it connects it goes into a loop of trying to connect and connect and then it finishes with "Authentication Problem" I don't know what else to do I have try 3 different ROM's and they all give me the same issues, I have try Android 4.0 , Android 4.1 and 4.1.2 (I believe) I keep getting this problem. PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUE... right now I'm currently running Team Venom ViperOneS_2.0 and its the same issue. :crying: PLEASE HELP ME>..

Agreed, this is in the wrong section - but surely Viper users have working Wifi - it's not just the AOSP-based ROMs that have working Wifi?? (I use AOSP/CM but I can't imagine all these Sense users have no working Wifi!)
Rafael - I think you need to flash the "Extra Wifi Partitions" for Jellybean (do a search!)
I have the file called WiFi jb fix file but don't know how to post it here..

No working WiFi on any sense based jb ROM If you have an hboot of 1.14 or higher... There is no way to flash the partitions with hboot 1.14 as well...that's the bottom line to include viper..high hboot no WiFi.. As stated earlier you must use aosp base to get WiFi or have hboot 1.06

Does this mean that even if it ran it will not work? please help me.

Ok ... You can not flash the WiFi partitions on hboot 1.14 it will look like it works but will not work.... Any of the older ICS ROMs should have WiFi... What you are looking for is a ROM with a base 2.35 or lower.... Aosp work because they use a 2.35 base.. With that being said you will get WiFi on jb sense if you get an ota, find an ruu which aren't out yet or upgrade/ downgrade hboot ... You need 1.06 or 3.16 hboot to get jb WiFi on sense.. Hope things are a little more clear...if you get an upgrade through your phone from HTC for jb you will get wifi....otherwise use cyanogenmod or AOKP for it...

Roms that work with T-Mobile htc one s

I've been using $droyd$'s AOKP 4.2.2 ROM and the only issue is that as of right now, you can't record in 1080p. Other than that, its very smooth and fast.
Also if you were unaware before, wifi-calling doesn't work on any jelly bean rom.
Good luck!

WIFI issues are a nuance of this phone and the tmobile seems to be the most affected - it's different for each access point, user, phone, rom and firmware. In short you'll have to try it.
My tmobile worked with wifi on CM10 and CM10.1, it would not work with Viper until I downgraded my hboot (partial s-off enables some firmware write access) and flashed my wifi firmware. It get's interesting - I then put the old firmware back and the wifi still worked!!
Did you see the S-OFF thread? This will enable you to flash the radio firmware which will solve any problems.
Remember your WIFI channels - different countries use different range of channels and some access points 'helpfull' set the channel automaticlly. I have many devices that cannot cope with channel12.
Not trying to be a buzz kill here, but what's the purpose of this thread? I mean the Dev section is right over there, and the first page is flowing with fully working or close to fully working new ROMS.
Just saying.
I see what your saying. But honestly when you go through the a certain ROMs thread, they never say how WiFi doesn't work on T-Mobile phones. Or any of the problems Tmobiles users face. And who wants to go through a thread having to look for that one specific detail about a ROM whether or not to see if WiFi works. Also when looking through these ROM threads you find people that just like to say thank you (which there is nothing wrong with) that fill up the pages, making it harder to know if everything in that ROM is really going to work on your tmobile HTC one s, because people do search through comments to see what the users say. Therefore I made this thread for all T-Mobile users who want to post and say whether their ROM they are using works perfectly or if they are experiencing problems. And who wants to go through the process of flashing a new ROM without even knowing whether something like WiFi works. So yeah that's why i made this thread
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I get that, ROM posts can be a little all over the place sometimes. I didn't understand at first; I'm one of the few T-Mo users with pretty much no problems. It also doesn't help that the ROM database that some guy did in the Dev section hasn't been updated for some time.
Thankyou

If you are S-ON and have high HBOOT and want a Sense-based ROM with working WiFi, you were looking at TrickDroid 7 (TMOUS based), Unknown Retribution, and I think one more (Energy Blue, IIRC) that were based on recent updates. Since they were all based on the TMOUS ROM, everything should work without doing anything super special, including WiFi-calling. Virtuous Ville+ also had working WiFi, but no WiFi-calling. Recent CM 10.1 nightlies are working really well. At least, those are the ROMs I've used.

Right now I'm on Viper 2.1.0 with the full firmware from the 3.16 WWE OTA -- I only made that jump because S-OFF makes it easy to switch without having to downgrade HBOOT. So HBOOT is 2.15 and Radio is 1.11.50.05.28. But I've just started using that and can't give you much in the way of impressions on WiFi stability yet. Just flashed it last night and didn't have any WiFi problems downloading my apps last night or weather checks this morning.
Before that I was using a recent CM 10.1 nightly on the TMOUS 2.35.531.10 firmware. So HBOOT 1.14 and 1.11t. I ran that firmware combination from shortly after its release until flashing Viper. ROMs in use were either CM 10.1 nightlies or Unknown Retribution (TMOUS 2.35 based).

noob question- What do you mean by TMOUS 2.35 based. And how does that affect the cm10.1 nightly
I mean ROMs that were built using T-Mobile US's 2.35 ROM as a base. Other Sense-based ROMs, like Viper, start with different ROMs as a base. The different Sense bases are part of the reason people run into WiFi problems when using ROMs originally created for other regions.
CM 10.1 has an entirely different heritage so it has its own ways of dealing with those issues.

Gotta Tell you the Viper 2.1.0 rocks...its fast awesome battery life and its got working wifi...not wifi calling but just wifi in general...it honestly is the best sense ROM...I have tried CM 10, Virtuous Ville+, P.A.C Man and even the ICS ROMs and I gotta say the Venom team makes an awesome product...
"[rom][S4][15FEB]Updated_4.2.2_AOKP-Working-video" seems to work great with TMOUS hboot 1.14, added the new camera (in the post) with photosphere, The only little bug I found is the bluetooth doesn't list station info on my car stereo. I saw a tearing fix using bubba kernel, but I'm just living with it for now. Everything else seems to work great!
I just flashed the LiquidSmooth JB ROM from Droyd and this thing is amazing.. Coming from a rooted Stock Sense there really is no comparison, I might give Viper a try but this is clearly gonna be my daily driver

[Q] Confused about installing ICS ROM into an existing GB ROM

It has been a long day of researching on unlocking my aunts SGH-T959W . I have finally finished rooting the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956025
My phone has the following status atm:
Firmware:2.3.6
Build no.: Gingerbread.WUQL86
kernel: 2.6.35.7-blastoff-v2
Blastoff does not detect any network signal, and hence I have to install another ROM
However, I am having a bit problem making a decision which ROM to install, since this is not even my phone and I am not sure.I was looking at this list http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/List_of_ROMs
Basically I just want a stable ROM for her phone, and something fast.
One thing particularly confusing is, how can I install ICS kernels into a Gingerbread ROM, that is just not compatible. And if you guys can provide links that would be useful, THANKS !
With blast off kernel you can flash any ics or jb roms. Ics is solid except for wifi calling and the battery won't go for days...maybe one day. Jb needs some work still gps doesn't work and wifi is broke on 4.2.2. If you're after something stable and wifi calling isn't a deal breaker go with any ics and proton kernel. O and the latest cm9 has broken video but proton kernel fixes it.
I can vouch for CM9 with the Proton kernel. Ultragen is supposed to be good too. If the JB ROMs haven't got GPS and WiFi working when I get The Urge, I'm trying that combo.
Btw, Google Voice works for WiFi calling. It doesn't show as the cell phone number at the recipient's phone tho.

Thanks, so I was looking at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Installing_a_ROM
in the upgrade/downgrade path section, it says I have to go CM9 to upgrade, am I am still in GB (MTD) or (BML) ? And why is I can't find blastoff kernel in the list. What I am confused about is how can I get proton kernel in CM9, in the list it doesnt seem to have it in the list. Okay wait is this what you mean, go to follow the instructions of flashing to CM9, then flash to CM10 ,slim bean 3.1 or paranoid andriod 2.99

Ahh I don't need gps xD.
There are some interface changes going from gb to ics I like. Valhalla Black and CM7 were the, two GB ROMs I used other than stock, and I liked them both for different reasons.
Usually I try a different ROM because the one I'm on flakes due to a bad app, sun spots or sumthin'. If I gotta wipe and reflash, I figure may as well try something new.
I miss swype and the office app from the stock ROMs, but I like the overall experience better with the custom ROMs.
From a security standpoint, you really have no idea if the devs can be trusted, but that's not to say SAMSUNG or Google are implicitly trustworthy either. Just saying... For that matter, having private info on a smart phone isn't probably the most secure idea either. You pick the risks you find acceptable.
One of those risks is taking on the tech support for a phone you don't own

Oh, and I believe unlocking and rooting are two totally different things. The former relates to being able to use other service providers and the later gives more access to the device's software 'innards'.

It's probably because our wiki is outdated. Forgive us.
What matters is the version of cwm that you're using. Blastoff has 5.0.xx I forget which exact version is in the kernel. Anyway then you should be good to go. I'm not sure you still have to go to cm9 first. I think all our roms have the right stuff to take you from blastoff to wherever.

There are some interface changes going from gb to ics I like. Valhalla Black and CM7 were the, two GB ROMs I used other than stock, and I liked them both for different reasons.

Lol, I am just trying to save my aunts 20$, and also I get to learn something new. what method do u usually do to change custom roms is it flashing from CWM or is there a software ?. I have been really careful regarding what i do to the phone since yesterday as it is not my phone, that is why I have been asking all possible questions before starting anything . I know unlocking and rooting are two different things , but in order to unlock you need to root.
Ok so I am flashing to CM9 now , after that should flash to a different ROM, like CM10 or should I just stick to CM9 or move to Ultragen. blastoff is a battery drainer, i got up this morning it went from 100% to 30% O_O

okay cool .I am rewriting this question, i think it did not get updated in my previous response. What I am confused about is how can I get proton kernel in CM9, in the list it doesnt seem to have it in the list. Okay wait is this what you mean, go to follow the instructions of flashing to CM9, then flash to CM10 ,slim bean 3.1 or paranoid andriod 2.99
You'll be able to flash any MTD rom from any other MTD/BML rom. The problem will be going from MTD back to BML but you probably won't want to do that.
As was mentioned, you will need a kernel with CWM 5.x+. You can find the blastoff kernel if you go back a few pages in the development forum.
As for which ROM to install? I recommend Team Acid's AOKP (link in my signature) using the Proton ICS kernel (by beastmode). It's been a very stable combination for me.

what are the chances of me going back to BML rom, so once I upgrade to custom ICS based roms, I can flash different roms that are only related to ICS and JB, and not Gingerbread, since it a version behind? So if I went to CM9 , i can easily switch AOKP with proton ics kernel or ICBINB ?
Thanks FB , I followed your post for rooting it was really useful. Also I thought BML and MTD, are just file systems or type of mapping, why are they supported in kernel level and not ROM level?
