Phone seems hotter than usual - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey guys,
I just flashed cm7 and faux kernel 52 with no overclock on my g2x that was previously running stock v21y gingerbread. The phone seems hotter than before, not sure if this is normal or I'm just imagining it...
Anyone have any similar. Experiences?

Try trinity kernel, the elp one. Some phones don't like faux kernel, others hate trinity. You need to try them all.

Very very true. I loved Trinity when I could get it right but my rig prefers faux kernels

is there a scientific way for me to decide which kernel is better? or is it just a matter of how it seems to me?
Also, I have an extended battery, so battery life isn't thaaaat much of an issue for me... All i want is reliability and stability.

Not really. What you do is get your phone setup how you want and than test the kernel, than test the other in same setup and see which one functions best for your needs..

Sweet, thanks for all the help guys! I just flashed trinity ELP, I'll see how that goes for a few days and if it seems buggy i'll flash back faux/

I have heard others say heat issues with faux newest kernel so you could also flash an older release of his kernel. I used 48 than 50 for very long times with no issues.

Good to know! I've been running trinity kernel for about a day now and it's definitely a lot cooler... My phone was getting really toasty with faux, but now it's completely cool to the touch.

Mine seems to do best with stock kernels -_-
Or maybe I haven't given all of them a try yet

Just install CPU spy and see at what time it stays at 1Ghz! So you should change CPU governor!

Right, there are two from morfic, excellent kernels one is regular froyo, the other is maxmem which gives you 48mb extra of memory, both are great but for me they both gave me minor problems, sleep of death and browser lockups...

[Q] Trinity or Faux

Hi
I recently got into the rooting and modding Scene.. and I wanted to flash a new Custom kernal for G2x I know about Faux and Morfic's Trinity kernal .. But couldnt decide between them ... i tried to install trinity when i had a CM7 7.1 stable release but the phone got stuck in a bootloop .. i am now running the latest nightly #217 with stock cm7 kernal .. Could you please reccoment wjich kernal should i Use??
I am mainly looking for Battery life and abilty to play games (Asphalt 6) thats about it.. (right now i have under volted my phone to 760 mhz)
Thanks guys
i run morfics extreme fun edition. its blazing. i have used faux123's kernels before but switched to trinity because it clocks higher and is more stable in my experience. also i like morfics boot animation better.
also with trinity my battery readings can be funky. like i will have wifi hotspot running for 30+mins and still get the same battery reading. but even though the readings are odd in my experience i have gotten more juice out of trinity.
Try em both and decide for yourself. Kernels are easy enough to test. Trinity is working very well for me with CM Nightly. Havent tried Faux, no need to. Trinity is stable and that's what matters to me most. Your mileage may vary though. Check em both out for a few days, and see what works best for you.
thank you guys .. I will try trinity out...
Well, I personally prefer Faux, but on a side note, you're not gonna get that great of a battery life playing games on it.

well iv found that faux gives a slightly better batter life, about a day with heavy use but trinity is MUCH faster with about 4/5 of the day with heavy use

Did you undervolt Trinity as far as you could?
I liked both and eventually settled in with Trinity.

Eaglesblood + Faux = awesome!

I've had my phone for about 6 weeks now, using a CM7 -based rom (won't name names). The battery life was horrible, the phone was always warm to the touch, and it locked-up often. The SOD happened probably every other charge. I was intending to dump the phone for something else, but after reading many recommendations, I loaded the latest release of Eaglesblood and Faux kernel.
What a difference! My phone is always cool to the touch now. It hasn't locked-up, and no SOD (knock on wood). I'm coming up on a week now with zero problems. If I don't use the phone much, I can get 2 days or more on a charge (unthinkable before). Just wanted to pass along what working for me.
which eb
There is an ICS and an older version which one are you referring to?

EB isn't made for Faux? Lolwut?
Faux's kernels can be used for most roms, unless Faux123 said no to EB?

i think what he meant is eb is not optimized for tirinity kernel. (to be honest i am not sure which one specifically, i personally never used the ics eb, and i think the gb eb is still using faux by default?)

Trinity kernel is so old though... and yes, EB does use Faux by default. Or maybe I flash Faux on every rom so it seems like it is... hmmm... Either way, Faux's kernels are amazing.

Is there a kernel that will play good with Hellfire Sandwich 1.7 (dirty) and that can be overclocked?

Nobody can tell you which Kernel will work best for whatever ROM you wish to use it for because even though we have the 'same' phone, they are not all equally built. What may work with amazing battery life and performance to one person, might be terribly sluggish with terrible battery life for the next person. The only real way to tell which ROM+Kernel combo works best for your phone is to try every Kernel you think your phone 'likes'. Whether we all want to admit it or not, that is probably the best way.
Hope this helped, Good luck!

Are there any kernels that work with CM7.2 RC1 that both allow for OC/(UV) and don't completely break the accellerometer?
I have tried Trinity and Faux. I would really like to get back to ridiculous battery life from this extended battery pack.

Trinity Kernels
I recently installed the Trinity Kernel and I don't really feel like I see a difference in my phone. I feel like my battery has shown no improvement. I installed the ti5 one but maybe I'll try the ELP one instead to see if I get anything different. I'm really looking for longer battery life. I used the phone theses days for about 30min of music a day (subway ride) and browsing here and there. Turned all syncing and app notifications off.
Check out the attached photos. I've seen screenshots of people with bar graphs showing their device at the top way ahead of everyone else.

Poll: Trinity vs Faux

Just gauging how many of you are still using Trinity kernel considering it hasn't been updated in months, while Faux is continually working on his kernel.
I've noticed freezing/overheating issues with Faux but I like that it's updated often enough.
Edit: By no means am I putting down Trinity kernel, just interested in the numbers

Trinity has been solid for a long time. My phone works much better with it. No need to update for the sake of updating.
Harsh is far better for.both of my g2x

On GB:
I prefer Trinity. It's been stable for some time and I can run my G2x for 35+ hours on moderate use. I've used Faux, but somehow I came back to Trinity.
On ICS:
I used Harsh when I was on ICS. But my experience in ICS generally has not been good (LG/NVidia not releasing drivers). So I came back to GB.
I prefer Faux
Trinity works better on my g2x. I think faux is a bit more aggressive, and my phone just acts better with the more conservative kernel.

Faster, longer battery life, more stable.. my phone does not like faux kernels at all. But I can run trinity elpmax at minus fifty milivolts and have no problems

On stock based 2.3.4 I like the stock kernel or Faux 014b2. On CM7 based I prefer TrinityELP for stability and batt life. I do find since Faux's 050 builds battery seems as good as ELP, and Faux has seemed to make scrolling super smooth. But Faux is still just a bit unstable on my phone. I am currently using the djvoleur adaptation of Harsh for CM7 roms. Its good too. I've had no probs with flashing between any of these kernels other than LED touch keys cannot be set to off when using Faux or Harsh.
I am a fan of all 3 - really...
Trinity ELP for GB
I tried everything out there and always go back to that. Fast, smooth, and good battery life. Plus it seems to be the only one that my phone's bluetooth can stay connected to my car's stereo. with other kernel (maybe coincidence), the two refuse to connect after a few connect/disconnect cycles.
also, many people say 24+ hr of moderate use. Is that with stock battery?
to me, moderate use = 3-4hr screen on time. 1hr phone call. wifi, BT, 4G, GPS always left on. 50% screen brightness. I typically get 12-18hr with trinity.
Heavy would be 5+hr screen on and more
Trinity gives me sleep of death, faux overheats and freezes I'm using the kernel that came with cm7 without any problems. Though I did get the SOD before I installed the build.prop tweaks

I've always been a big fan of morfic's Trinity ELP kernel (dated Feb. 6th, 2012). Unfortunately I don't see this kernel linked on his old site (just the ones dated in 2011).
faux all the way!!!!
