How to root (the update before JellyBean) - Asus Transformer TF700

I have seen around that everyone has JellyBean. I am still on the update that happened 2 or 3 weeks ago, at least that is what I think I am on. I haven't clicked on upgrade firmware for the JellyBean recently so I believe I am not on JellyBean. Anyways, I went on Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and it claims that I lost root on the update from the update 2-3 weeks ago. Is there a way that I can reroot my device before updating to JellyBean. I really dont want to unlock my device since I don't want to void my warranty since the device was soooo expensive.
Thank you for those that respond, I appreciate the time you put in helping me.

You can follow the same step as before to re root. If you go into settings, scroll down to the bottom ->about table -> and read the "Build number" I think you should be on .30.
read the "rooting section"

[Q] Prepping for ICS

Well I'm one of those people who might have missed something while browsing and searching the forum.. owning several Android devices which are all waiting for ICS it's getting hard to keep track of what to do
So here is my situration.. I have TF101 that was originally rooted via nvflash but the last WW OTA update ASUS released i just used rootkeeper to re-root my beloved device.
Other then rooting the device is pretty much stock when it comes to recovery, launcher and kernel.
So knowing this do I still need to unroot and re-root with natcho to keep root and do the OTA update to ICS ?

[Q] Canadians Able to update to .26

Any other Canadians able to update to .26, ive been trying for 3 days checking updates and havent gotten anything at all for signs of an update available.
Anyone know if our version up here would be slightly different at all?
I'm not in Canada but have had mine for a little over 2 weeks and haven't received the update yet either.

I updated mine manually. I never got any OTA. Im from Vancouver.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
the manual update doesn't let you keep root or does it?
the forums get a bit confusing on that with everyone posting slightly different things at times.
Not sure as i dont root my devices.. but im guessing it wont

As I booted for the first time the update was there. I will root when it is more solid. Besides I don't need to be rooted yet either. I hear that there will be an update soon to fix the occasional flicker prob on the left hand of the screen.
There is a. 29 US and no OTA update to. 26 WW for me in Canada.... Still at. 17. Do they do this on purpose or is it a bug?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
No update yet, though in a way I'm glad because otherwise I probably would've updated and then been unable to root without downgrading (which sounds like quite a bit of a hassle). Since I haven't encountered any major issue with the tablet thus far I'm not too worried about not having the upgrade.
I wouldn't have rooted if it weren't for Sixaxis controller needing it, but while I was at it I took advantage of that to grab Titanium and a few more root apps and am glad I rooted in the end.
Weird.. my Canadian TF300 came with US firmware. The tab was brand new sealed in box from tigerdirect.ca.

That's because Tiger Direct ships product directly from their US warehouse. Same distribution for both countries. You are fortunate, will get .29 update with battery stats and face unlock.. Fyi: For Canadians wanting to upgrade to. 26, go to Asus support Site where you can download and manually install... Just did it

No, it's called Voodoo OTA Root Keeper for a reason... It only works with OTA (over-the-air) updates.
FYI to fellow Canadians not receiving OTAs, Asus has posted the .29 update on their support site today. I just installed, working perfectly. You can find it here: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+Transformer+Pad+TF300T&p=20&s=16 Make sure you check to ensure you install the correct software version. Is confirmed in Settings/About Tablet/Build Number. Enjoy.
I am going to assume now that the bootloader unlock tool is out its easier to flash su and such onto this to root it?
am i correct on this?

I'm not getting anything either... got mine from BB, was on US .17, returned that due to lack up updates (and not being able to unlock), got a new one from BB which is on WW .17 and still no updates/unlock
Anyone hear anything about possible fixes from asus?

[Q] able to keep ROOT after 4.1 update?

Well we've already heard the great new TF700's gonna be getting JB within 72hrs. Now here comes this maybe stupid question since Im a noob , will we be able to keep our root by using like Voodoo OTA rootkeeper after such a major update, or we have to wait for a new root tool?
How are we supposed to know before its released?
Wait until someone confirms OTA Doorkeeper works. I'm going to give it a try when I get the update. No one can really tell unless the app doesn't support JB

We heard some news that TF300 after upgraded to JB able to keep root, so we believe we should able to...but for our TF700, only time will tell!
Or if you have an unlocked bootloader you could simply keep using what you have and wait for a day or two(i know its hard) and the awesome devs of this community will have a rooted rom out based on the new JB Update. The roms out now based off of ICS and the TF300 JB are already great. It wont take long to get the little bugs squashed with official source. just my humble opinion.
In order to keep root with the TF300T JB OTA you had to use SuperSU and Voodoo together. Others staying with Superuser and Voodoo lost root. Make sure you check the keep root function in SuperSU's settings though before starting the update. Also worked with the 4.1.1 update last night.

how exactly they both work together? since I haven't used SuperSU before so any detail would be helpful.
Is that I just toggle ON SuperSU's OTA survival mode before the OTA, and restore the root by using Voodoo after the OTA?

New TF300T few questions on rooting etc

Hi all,
After much debate between the Infinity, Prime and TF300 I settled on getting a TF300T. It's new out of the box and is charging up right this minute.
I am coming from a Motorola Xoom which I had rooted running EOS JB ROM and TWRP Recovery.
I've been having a look through the TF300T forums and I see that the general advice seems to be not to be not to upgrade OTA until I have rooted and unlocked, is this correct?
I have seen SparkyRoot but was wondering lso what is the best and easiest method for rooting ? I am in the UK so I guess I have to make sure I find instructions etc for the UK version?
I am not looking to install any custom ROMs yet, I want to see how the stock goes for now. I am interested in getting it rooted though because I have apps like Titanium, Sixaxis Controller which need root privileges.
I guess you guys in this corner of the forum will be seeing more of me now that I have a TF300T. I will see how I get on with this tablet for a week or two before I finally ditch and sell my trusty old Xoom.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm assuming you have not taken the jb update. Here's what happened to me...
I was on ICS. I rooted using the debugfs method, in the Dev section. I took the jb update and thanks to ota rootkeeper I was able to restore root with no issue. I had to wipe data shortly after to resolve a problem. That caused me to lose root permission, and I couldn't get it back without unlocking and using step 3 of the jb root guide, in the general section.
I'm now on stock jbwith an unlocked bootloader, twrp recovery, root, and a couple of tiny mods from the Dev section. I consider having twrp much better than maintaining the warranty because you can easily do full backups, and flash things like mods and root. Hope this helps you.

I have rooted my TF300 first then I was on ICS.
I have used [ROOT][TOOL]Debugfs automated root v1.9 - update 7/2/2012 - Prime & TF300t by sparkym3
and after I have backuped my root with OTA rootkeeper - free version.
I have checked my root with Root Checker-Free version.
I have updated my device on JB by OTA without problem.
Restored my root with OTA rootkeeper.
And finally, I have unlocked my TF300 with Asus tool: UnLock_Device_App_V7.apk
Restored my root with OTA Rootkeeper.
Installed TWRP Recovery, which is for my part, the recovery which is more stable
And actually, I'm on [ROM] Asus Custom Rom - JB Overclock Edition V01
If you want to know more, click on my sig and go to see the index for TF300
Awesome thanks guys
It's finished charging now, I've turned it on but disabled wifi so I don't get any OTA updates.
Looking at my build number it says: IML7K.WW-epad-9.4.3.26-20120416
I seen some guides where the build number was important, I'll go back and double check.
I'll check out those links Phil. Going to make sure I read everything properly as I don't want to end up bricking my new toy

Do I just do an OTA update to get it up to 9.4.3.29? I guess there will be a succession of small updates and as long as I stop on that one?

Thanks Philos64 shall do it now... will report back later with the results.
Big thank you coming your way

All so far so good...rooted and all backed up, just waiting for the JB update to download now.
Just one more thing? I was looking at TWRP and I was wondering how to install it? I know that on my xoom I already had CWM installed and just ran the file from recovery which gave me TWRP but how can I do that with the TF300T? On the TWRP website it says about 2 options:
Install Fastboot Method & Install ADB / Terminal method...both of which I have never done before. Is it easy to do as long as I follow the instructions?
Thanks again
Well everything went well, I got root access which confirmed with root checker, done a backup of my root and installed the Jelly Bean update but then Root backup lost my backup

Then you'll need to unlock the bootloader and follow the guide in the general section to get it back. For twrp, go find links to the twrp site in the Dev section. They have install instructions on the twrp site. Again, you must unlock the bootloader to install it.

That is brilliant news! After reading the forums here i thought that now I was on Jellybean I had lost the ability to root. I guess a lot of people don't want to void their warranty by unlocking their bootloader. I had to do the same thing with my xoom.

Unlocking/Rooting with current JB firmware?

Is there a way to Unlock or Root the TF700 with the current JB firmware? My TF700 came stock with JB, and it seems like Asus took down the links to the ICS firmware on their support site.
As others have said in various threads, you can be on JB and unlock no problem. It says ICS only but Asus are just lazy and haven't updated their site. I unlocked on JB and everything is fine.

Curious to getting root w/o unlocking it? I looked at some other threads and only talk about keeping root while upgrading etc.
So far loving this tablet, the dock makes it 100x more useful when you need it.

As far as I know, the only way to root it without unlocking the bootloader is if you have ICS and just use the debugfs command program, as far as rooting with JB I know you have to have the bootloader unlocked. In all honesty I don't mind taking the risk of unlocking my bootloader because I have Geek Squad Protection on my tablet and can just get a new one for free.

You should use TWRP 2.3.1 instead of 2.2.2.3, which he reccommends, though. They have fixed the issues he talks about.

I'm wanting to take the plunge myself - but do you have to use the Asus unlocker tool or is there a way around that? I'm too late to get SquareTrade I think. Too late, and too poor LOL. I just have that nagging feeling that as soon as I do the thing will bork on me.
Edit: Sorry...I just read that you can't unlock without the ASUS tool, and it's a damn shame. I want so bad to rant right now but I won't.
I think I'm still going to unlock though.
The only way I could find to root was to install CWM recovery first, and then install the CWM SuperUser app. I replaced CWM with TWRP when all was said and done. Both are now touch interfaces making things so much less laborious. The links for doing so are all around the web and these forums. I had my frustrations but in the end it was easier than I thought it would be. I'm happy I took the plunge. I believe a lot of my frustrations were from ASUS' horrible implementation of Android. My benchmarks are now 6300+ on Quadrant with 2D GPU rendering on. I know benchmarks aren't everything but, you won't be sorry if you're giving up some kind of warranty to get the device you paid premium dollar for.
