Overclocking Xperia Tipo[Discussion] - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

Hello,
I've recently bought Xperia Tipo and while reading the threads I came to know that its processor is underclocked...Have any of you guys got a success in overclocking the phone...?
Since I don't have much knowledge in this,so I want to ask, what overclocking benefits us?Will it make phone run faster, gaming without much lags and compatible for more games? Also, will this help in receiving Android JB on this phone?
Cheers,
Centurian

You are right the phone is underclocked and we will be able to overclock it someday, but we need to change the kernel for that I think
At this current point in time I know we can unlock the downloader and root it (android jb) maybe more
Now this has been achieved we will need a dev to find a way to overclock it since the CPU apps in the market only allow us to run the CPU at 800mhz max.
I will update when I know more, please say if you find out before I do though
sent from my baby xperia tipo via the xda android app

Have you or anyone else tried rooting the JB onto this?
Also,is the app like SetCPU good to overclock or will it even work on tipo?

We can't overclock the CPU using any apps until the kernel is modified, this is because the kernel is told we have an 800MHz processor so wen we try to use setCPU it won't go any higher
sent from my baby xperia tipo via the xda android app

we could overclock the phone by loading a kernel overclock module
but i have no idea how to build yet im still setting up my computer after moving house so i wont be able to do any real work for a couple of weeks but i will see if there are any prebuilt modules that will work
then i am gonna learn how to build and start playing
but we need cwm just in case it all goes wrong

please correct me if I'm wrong. as far as I know overclock only possible with custom kernel. no module can do it. however, we still can add several stuff via modules like new govs and iosched. I've downloaded the kernel source and build several iosched modules. unfortunately, the modules cannot loaded into the system due to unknown reason. the kernel source also a lil bit messed up. I never could build a complete kernel due to error message.

I used droid overclock on my droid and it overlocked by loading a kernel module or is different in ics

No that's right.. most moto phones are over clocked through modules.. we have locked boot loaders.. so no custom kernels.. the modules are loaded on bootup... which processor does tipo have?

Qualcomm snapdragon s1

I remembered that Xperia X8 had a module to enable overclock, how about Tipo?

tipo have no module to overclock

Someone would nee to build one

Now they released unlocked bootloader shall we be able to overclock our tipo?

Are there anyone, going to spend time to mod this phone, it is a lower price range phone.
Most people will probably spend the time on a higher spec phone. I am interested in this phone, it's a shame that sony phone contains alot of pixels problem.

it is possible to overclock with a custom kernel, and BTW Tipo / Miro are not underclocked, the chipset is just slightly slower than MSM7227A (1Ghz).
R
Edit: i was wrong. Its underclocked.

Wait for a custom kernel to overclock the CPU.
Anyone tried overclocking on the FXP CM10? It should have an overclockable kernel.

Is it true that tipo could be overclocked??
Because months ago I thought that tipo has Qualcomm MSM7227A processor (which can run up to 1GHz), but today I looked for in many web pages, and all of them say that in fact the processor is the MSM7225A, which can only run up to 800MHz..
EDIT:
It seems that tipo has Qualcomm MSM7225A processor, so I imagine that we can´t overclock it, right??
http://developer.sonymobile.com/2012/06/13/xperia-tipo-and-xperia-miro-two-new-fun-and-stylish-additions-to-the-xperia-portfolio/

It's the same cpu as the L3, so it can be overclocked up to 1ghz.

The Tipo/Miro (it's basicaly the same phone) hasn't got that much devs now. We just need a rebuilt kernel.

No it is MSM7227A i have checked that with antutu benchmark and many other apps

[Q] Overclocking

Im rooted my desire Z yesterday to the gingerbread sense 3.0/3D rom.
im very happy that i have done it and my battery experience is either improved.
but my experience of the reaction time, smooth animation ect. were kindly bad
this is why i want to overclock my processor, but the rom included the new kernel 2.6.35.10 to be exactly. this kernel is not yet overclockable and i wanna know why.
- why make different kernels need different methods of overclocking
- why can it by bad if you overclock it to high.
- can i just flash another kernel to overclock my new gingerbread sense 3.0 rom.

if you overclock the processor of your device you can smoke your DZ
but if you do it with careful it is not bad for your device.
the kernel that you have its a stock kernel (factory kernel) and its not customized for to be over/underclocked... you should flash another kernel for to change CPU speeds...
nornally you can overclock your desire z (good machine mate ) 1.300mhz-1500mhz i not recommend to do overclock upper than 1500-1700... i had read some threads that some people was smoked his device (all with the proccessor QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 1ghz)another think its the freeze problem when you overclock your processor too much.. be careful!
and one important thing.. also its important if you do underclock.... don´t put it under 245mhz more or less because maybe your device don´t has sufficient power to exit of stanby mode
i recommend that ALWAYS do overclock with SETCPU.apk that its available free for XDA MEMBERS its the most safety mode
sorry for my english

You set the kernel speed to what you want with setcpu or something like it. These kernels tell you what the max is. You can set it however you want.
You obviously have no understanding or concept of what you want to do.
Therefore i suggest you dont do it.
i know exactly want i want, but it is so confusing cus i followed this how to
http://eeepadhacks.net/transformer-hacks/how-to-overclock-your-eeepad-transformer-to-1-6ghz/
after i installed the kernel and rebooted it freezed and i rebooted several times but it kept freezing.
So can you offer me some help so that i can overclock tot 1,2 ghz
flashing kernels is easy, making sure they're compatible can be tough. for you running Prime 1.9 I suggest clemsyns latest kernel. I think he's up to 21 now. you can find his tread in development. just also know that if the kernel flashing doesn't go well you can always reflash your rom to return to a kernel that works. once your new kernel is installed you need to install an app to regulate your CPU frequencies. I recommend setcpu which can be acquired on xda for free. I'm not going to post the link, just search for it, I believe its in android general forums. other than that you can search the market for overclock and choose from the many options available, just know that some programs might not work for the transformer.
EDIT: make sure to get clemsyns "b" kernel unless you have installed voodoo sound separately.
thnxx for the replay i wiil try the other romm

Depends. In my case using Prime 1.9.1 with the "official" overclock kernel I can use in perfect stability 1.6ghz. Last time I gave a try to a clemsyns kernel (v9 maybe?) I could get stability only up to 1.2ghz..... it kinda varies between the kernel, rom and specific machine as some might work better than others.
Also as already said, just get a kernel that works with your rom and set it at the clock you want using SetCPU or another app.
Great work ! you helped me all out, now i overclocked to 1,2 ghz succesfully and i can play tekken 3 without any lag thnx to you !

[A700] [KERNEL] iconiaN - OC-UV

First as always, I am not responsible for any damages caused by using any files I release.
ok, right down to the point of this post.
I built kernel with the help of faux123 with OC/UV & GPU OC and have been asked to release it, so here it is:
Downloads:
iconiaN Kernel for A700 Final version
Currently it only clocks to 1.5GHz (Used SetCPU) more work is still to be done
GPU is OC'd to 520MHz
I welcome feedback and suggestions :fingers-crossed:
Please do NOT package these kernels with a custom ROM, instead point your users to this thread
Massive thanks to faux123 for complying with GPL, as I borrowed the GPU OC & UV from his kernel sources.
GPL States I should provide full source, so here it is: on GitHub
Wow. That's definitely a must have! I hope this will change the experience and launches apps faster.
Aren't the CPU and the GPU put together in one socket?
Will this kernel be packaged in iconiaN 2.2 by any chance?
I wondered why you wrote that the GPU is clocked at 1.5 Ghz. That`s a little bit too high in comparison with the mali 400 and other mobile GPU. Now I looked at your github and I see 520 MHz. A really nice Overclock too. Maybe you have clocked the CPU to 1.5 GHz?
I will test the kernel in a few minutes. Big THX for this
I was tired.
Was thinking CPU lol.
Yes it is a 520MHz sorry
I've not done the cpu oc yet though.

Vorbeth,
I downloaded and installed this last night. It was stable, but seemed to lag a bit. I think the OC of the GPU helps less than an OC of the CPU. Running the modified kernel OC'd at 1.4 seems to have a greater impact than OC'ing the GPU... it really seems like 1.3 GHz is not fast enough to support the higher clock speed on the GPU...???
Obviously, getting the both ramped up would seem to be the best scenario.
Your work on all of this for the A700 is very much appreciated!

This kernel does have the 1.4GHz cpu speed.
I'm going to see if I can push it a bit more.
Aiming for 1.6GHz CPU & 600MHz GPU.
Sent from my EndeavorU using xda app-developers app
Yes Sir! If 600 GPU aren`t stable, I think we can life with 500 too, when the CPU runs fine at 1,6 Ghz.
I`ve tested Wild blood(gameloft game with the Unreal engine 3, that works after I edited the build.prob) with your default kernel, and I think it was around 20 fps so I definitively need more horse-power
Sorry for the Double post, but I have downloaded your new kernel from google docs, and I`ve got no error during the CWM installation. So nothing to worry about Sir

What is the original GPU speed of the A700?
It seems that wiki thinks it's already 520MHz:

You will see that it was 416MHz, the same as the nexus 7 and One X
Thank you for your reply. Seems like iiki doesn't have the correct information, since the One X is also listed there where the GPU says 520MHz.

Thanks Vorbeth - when you do get around to it, is it possible to post a link to a flashable kernel version that we can use with the CM10 nightlies?
This has been out a while now (and I've not had time to try it myself), but has anyone out there been using this this past while? Thoughts? Anyone? Bueller?

[Q] OC Kernel for d2g running CM7.1 kang/pooka?

I've been looking and searching for an overclock kernel for my d2g which I finally have running CM7.1.0. Since the unit came with 629, I used the unofficial cm rom from kang?pooka? We all know it uses the gb leaked kernel 2.6.32.9, and the os version is of course 2.3.7.
Suprisingly, everything works great, but I'm just never satisfied unless I'm overclocking lol.
Advice on a daily user kernel that's compatible with this cm7 port? Not just any droid 2.6.32 oc kernel will work right?
[Edit]
Partially solved,
I used the Milestone Overclock and SetCPU combination, seems to be working ok for now...
You cannot swap kernels on DROID2/D2G/DX. Their bootloaders are locked. Unsigned kernels cannot be installed.
There are apps and governors that let you overclock the CPU, though.
Oh that explains my failure to find any oc kernels for it lol and I should have known, since I know it has a locked bootloader. I use SetCpu for underclocking, which I know has an option to pull custom freqs from a text file, but I have been hesitant to try that if the speeds aren't supported in the kernel.
I'll look into it more and look at additional governors.

I made some progress, using Milestone Overclock to mod the kernel and SetCPU to control the clock. I found that I'm only stable up to 1340 Mhz with a vsel of 80.
This is progress, but I am more than significantly disappointed considering my last HTC Desire Z clocked from stock 800 to 1.5 ghz with no problems at all (besides obvious heat) lol.
I shall keep at it!

As of Vengeance kernel version 1.43 overclocking has been removed for the Miro. To overclock you need kernel version 1.40 or earlier.

I don't believe that you can anymore, try getting in contact with the dev of the kernel to see if they can get one. You shouldn't need to overclock now though, the tweaks what have been added to the kernel make it just as good at normal clocking as it is overclocked.
My bad, you can still download it from the devs MediaFire account. Here is the link http://www.mediafire.com/download/rr5mnzl5pmdal6h/Kernel_Vengeance_Mesona.zip
You still shouldn't need to overclock though.
