[APP][2.3+] Encdroid - EncFS file manager w/ Dropbox/GoogleDrive integration - Android Apps and Games

Hello xda-developers,
Been a follower of these forums for a while, but now its my turn to publish my own apps!
Encdroid (free)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mrpdaemon.android.encdroid
Encdroid is a file manager application for Android devices to keep your files encrypted on Dropbox, Google Drive or the local storage of the device. It is compatible with EncFS so volumes created with Encdroid can be accessed on Windows/MacOS/Linux desktop and laptops and vice versa.
Hope its useful for someone out there... Any reviews/comments welcome. Oh, and its open source, so contributions welcome:
https://github.com/mrpdaemon/encdroid
Cheers, long live Android!

Thanks. Taking a look now.
Edit. You need to mention that the download on market is only for US users due to export regulations.

Thanks, I just edited my OP.
Its because of the US export regulations around apps with encryption. I'm going through the process of notifying BIS to let me put it on all markets

Can now be downloaded from all countries.

Thanks, I'm going to implement this sometime soon hopefully

This will protect my files, this is very good!
Installed here...
Thanks a lot!

v1.2 is out with external IV chaining support!

v1.2.2 is out with some bugfixes.
BTW, for anyone out there using Encdroid, which cloud storage service would you like to see supported next? I'm planning on implementing Google Drive first, but if a majority of folks would like to see something else I can be convinced

I would like to see on F-droid.org. Many cloud storage options don't work without API keys and unless those keys are in the source code they can't work in an F-droid.org-built app. Ubuntu One does work in the MobileOrg app so I think that may work . Anyway some kind of ssh option would be nice

Thanks for the pointer, I wasn't aware of f-droid.org before, very cool work you guys are doing there!
As you pointed out, Dropbox access requires API keys, and it is not a very good idea to commit the API keys into the repository since anyone can scrape it and use it for their own purposes and then Dropbox blames my app for their mischief. The way I have it now allows anyone to create a build of the application using their own API keys which lets them use the app with up to 5 Dropbox accounts. I've already gotten Dropbox to approve my API keys for unlimited usage, so those keys are what the Google Play store build contains, but they aren't in the repo for the reason I outlined above.
I'm thinking of a way to have f-droid build my app with Dropbox functionality - if all your build infrastructure is open source then it isn't possible for me to give you the API keys to let you do builds without disclosing the API keys to anyone else. Another alternative is for each user to obtain their own API keys and somehow give those keys to f-droid and get a custom built apk, but I'm not sure if that is possible. I could also do some build work to let my app be built without Dropbox support and have f-droid build that version, although that would significantly reduce its usefulness. I'm going to look into supporting Ubuntu One sometime in the future.
Can you elaborate what you meant by ssh option? Do you mean accessing volumes through SFTP or something?

Thanks! I've built the app already and it works fine without keys: when you try to authenticate to dropbox it crashes which isn't a big deal. I'm not sure about ssh: I know some of the f-droid guys like to use dropbear ssh server on their phone which allows their computer to sync via an rsync script. There are some problems building the Dropbear frontend app and I think it needs root so it's not for everyone. I know MobileOrg can sync via ssh: https://github.com/matburt/mobileorg-android using this library http://www.jcraft.com/jsch/

I was looking for something like that. Nice work.

rsync is the usual way you would synchronize directories over ssh. It is included in Cyanogenmod but you wouldn't find it anywhere else. There is a frontend called Rsyncdroid but there is no source code for the rsync binaries. F-droid.org will probably look into building Rsyncdroid with the Cyanogenmod source. Until then you'd have to call it via the terminal or a script manager which would kind of limit its appeal. Very soon, F-droid.org will have the Ubuntu One Files app and that would be a way to (sort of) synchronize a directory.

Version 1.3 released with:
- Add support for volumes on external SD card
- Major performance improvement for volume unlocking

@mrpdaemon, It is great to see an open source file encryption app that does not require rooting one's device! Thank you for your contribution!
I have a few questions, and if these are all answered by the app itself please forgive me as I don't currently have an Android device to test on (I'm going to be getting a tablet soon!):
It sounds like the way Encdroid currently works one has to move a file from it's original location into the Encdroid encrypted volume, correct?
Subsequently, the only way to open a given encrypted file is to open Encdroid and then open the file via whatever app is associated with that file type, correct?
When one opens an encrypted file (via whatever app is associated with that file type) what is the state of that file? Is it unencrypted into a temporary file someplace, and if so, is that unencrypted temp file securely overwritten when the file is closed? Or is there some other method(s) at work to protect the security of the file? (I'm not doubting you--I just want to understand how the app works. )
Do you have plans (if it is even possible without rooting one's device) to enable Encdroid to transparently handle file/folder encryption (eg, similar to the way TrueCrypt for Windows works--software just sees the files like normal inside the TrueCrypt volumn)? It sounds like DroidCrypt might being able to do this, but I'm leery of trusting myself to a closed source unknown piece of software (especially for something security related!).
Does the Dropbox integration just mean that one has the option of storing the encrypted files/containers in their device Dropbox folder?
Thanks!

Just released v2.0 with Google Drive support. Hoping that it's useful to more people now!

[APP][2.3+] PassLock 1.5.1

Since I have a lot of passwords I needed a password manager which will fit my needs. I did not want a manager that keeps my passwords safe on their servers but I want to export my db so I can have a backup! That's why I created PassLock password manager and I release it to the market for everyone.
PassLock keeps your passwords safe using AES-256bit and is free.
- You can group your passwords
- You can change/edit your records and also transfer them to an other group
- You can change your master pass
- You can import/export your database
Anyone that will give it a shot please leave feedback.
Since v1.0 I have changed some things that you can find below.
Changes in v1.5.1
Disabled auto-complete/auto-suggest words in passwords fields.(This might not work for all devices and all android versions.Trying to improve)
Changes in v1.5
-Show/Hide option when you type your master pass
-Lock database only and not exit
-Highly configurable password generator added
Devices Support
Unfortunately google does not release yet any documentation about 2.3.5 and also I can not create an AVD with this version for testing the app.
I have test it on 2.3.3(API 10) which is also has the same API with 2.3.4(API 10). If google changed the API level in 2.3.5 it might not work and I will fix it when released.
As far for the SGS2 I am not sure why is not working for some of you...Maybe it's the rom you are using?!As I can see 15 SGS2 has the app working fine!
For any other devices I have to search more so please post your device with the rom you are using and if it is working or not.
Thanks!
Note: The 3 permissions that required are just for the import/export of the database and for the ads!
Download from here
thanks, id much rather have a local manager then a cloud manager.
Showing as incompatible with my Thunderbolt. Running A05PTh30RY 1.3X which is Android 2.3.5
So why does the app need internet access?
If it's supposed to be a local pw manager i don't see the need for any network access at all, specially not internet.
Ads supported maybe
Wraios file Maybe you could add froyo support too? Very nice app.
None of my device supported, neither NI Adam nor Galaxy sII
Works great on Galaxy S XXJVP 2.3.4, Speedmod T5.
seems to work, but can I access it while on the browser to fill fields or is it strictly a look up your info in this program then go to the browser and enter it manually? (or copy paste)
Would be nice if there was an option to autofill
I just installed on my Atrix. Seems to be working okay. I will do some more testing with it later. Seems to work as advertised--good and simple. Thanks for the dev work.
Will not install to my Tmo Hd2 running Android
The app doesnt work on many phones I think you need to fix it to gain wide popularity.
But anyways Thanks
And after going to my blog, I think you will Thank me also.
See here http://www.techofweb.com/google/android-passwords-manager.html
But again I dint like its non-working on many Android devices.
Hope you will fix it soon.
@jwgizmo maybe you do not have a 2.3+ version?!
Thanks vostdev

[APP][1.6+] PDroid - the better privacy protection app - will you use it?

Hi,
I have recently developed a privacy protection application for Android.
You can use it to block access for any installed application to the following data separately:
Device ID (IMEI/MEID/ESN)
Subscriber ID (IMSI)
SIM serial (ICCID)
Phone and mailbox number
Incoming call number
Outgoing call number
GPS location
Network location
List of accounts (including your google e-mail address)
Account auth tokens
Contacts
Call logs
Calendar
SMS
MMS
Browser bookmarks and history
System logs
SIM info (operator, country)
Network info (operator, country)
For device ID, phone and mailbox number, SIM serial, subscriber ID and device location it also allows supplying custom or random values.
Unlike others (e.g., Permissions Denied or CM) this does not make applications crash when access to private data is blocked.
The following short video shows some of its functionality.
PDroid does not require ROOT or any Android permission to function, nor does it need any services running in the background. But it does require patching some ROM components, so that it needs to be ported to different devices. Currently it is available for Nexus One, Nexus S, Desire HD (Gingerbread) as well as Magic with CM 6.1 (Froyo).
So I am wondering if I should release it for public use and maybe port to other devices. I will only do so if you would like to use it, since it requires some fine-tuning to be more user-friendly. So please vote if you would like to use PDroid.
I would love to use this app on my galaxy s and tab.
Especially the point to give the apps random or custom information instead of just blocking the access is important.
If you need help testing the app on those mentioned devices just let me know
I hope you get enough positive feedback to port and continue developing this app.
I ll love to have such an app on my Xperia X10 mini pro (cyanogenmod 7)
so basicly it's a LBE replacement? The major disadvantage of that one is being closed-source. Do you plan to open-source yours?
I would like to give this app a shot too with my devices (Nexus S 4G, EVO 3D and Epic Touch 4G). Does not require root, but assume that root is ok? Also seen that you have for Nexus S, but was not sure if that implies to the NS4G as well. Looks promising.

Kind of. The functionality is similar to that of LBE while I tried to account for its disadvantages, such as not being able to disallow access to some data (e.g., system logs, incoming and outgoing call numbers etc.), requiring root or being unreliable since LBE requires its protection service to be running so that malicious apps still can steal data if they are started before LBE after boot.

Yes, basically any device, for which Android can be directly built from AOSP (and this includes Nexus 4G) is supported right now.
Love to see it for the T-Mobile G2x especially if it is open.

That's a nice list. I'd really like a version for my Motorola Defy.
How hard would it be to reuse the code to make it run like LBE, i.e. make an apk that works on every phone without having to patch ROMs for every type of device?
I too would like to use this app, sounds awesome. If you need any beta testers, I volunteer

Impossible, since the actual application logic performing the data access control is based on the Android application framework and not the SDK. Plus, doing it the LBE way requires root and will never be 100% reliable. In other words, there is no way of creating a proper solution without patching the ROM.
I would like to have this for t-mobile US Vibrant since we're getting no Gingerbread love from t-mo or Sammy and I'm all flashed out with nothing else to do.

If I can help in any way, any way at all, I'd be very happy to do so.. I'm running CM7.1.0 on my DesireZ @ 1.2ghz...
Thanks a lot!
Looks great. I'd love to get that on my Thunderbolt (CM7) would there be anyway to block permissions like internet and SD card access, I know Cyanogenmod lets you disable them but you have to reset your phone after a change for them to take effect. Also I don't know if it falls into the scope of what this project is intended for but I've seen people ask about making certain apps work on 3G that only work on wifi or the other way around if you could make an app think it was using one or the other for a connection I think that would be very helpful to some folks.
I'd test this on the t-mo Galaxy S2 if you're willing to do it...

Not in near future. Doing that would require modifying the kernel and that, in turn, would make PDroid much less portable.

[2.1+] MissingLink - cross platform file sharing/synching and device remote control

Hi all!
So I've been working on an app in my spare time on & off for about 2 years and have finally put it up on the play store. I'm looking for opinions about it, as after building it for so long I've most likely got severe tunnel vision and wouldn't know what's intuitive and what's not to a new user!
What does it do?
Remote control your PC (mouse, keyboard, media buttons)
Copy files to & from your PC or other Android devices
Sync files automatically
Share clipboard data between devices
Open URLs and files (eg music, video) on remote devices
Supports sleep and wake-on-lan of devices
Why? There are similar apps already!
I wrote it out of frustration with the available options for "inter-connectivity" between my devices. I use a HTPC to watch movies and wanted a remote app to control the HTPC (remote mouse, play/pause/volume). There are many existing such apps but I didn't like what's out there:
Are complicated with separate "remotes" for each app that you have to juggle between, etc
They don't behave like a keyboard & mouse, but have special buttons to learn
They often require Java on the PC
Can be slow
I wanted much more than just a remote control app if I'm going to have a "server" running on my PC...
If you want remote clipboard sharing, file transfers, etc, you have ot install separate servers for each app on your PC... I thought I could do better, and you only need 1 "server" on the PC to do all of the above.
Finally, I wrote it to be peer-to-peer. This means that your PC isn't really a "server", for example, you can transfer files/open URLs Android-Android without a PC being present. One such case is when I'm often reading a webpage and open the link on my wifes tablet so she can check it out too!
It's also cross-platform. The same core bit compiles on pretty much anything, but so far I've only released the Android and Windows ports, as they're the ones that I've tested the most. Coming soon will be OSX, Linux and iOS last (I HATE objective-C syntax!)
I've got heaps of other features which I want to add, to build this into the ultimate way to make your devices cooperate... but with the existing features I thought it's time to release it & see what others think!
How can I download it?
The app is called MissingLink (one word, if you want to search for it on the play store). Or the direct link is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.peaklabs.missinglink
The Windows version is available on my site at:
http://www.peaklabs.net/apps/missing-link/download/
Quit blabbing
Ok If you have time please give it a shot and let me know what you think! It has a trial as synching is a paid feature, but if you want I can reset your trial! Just message me.
Just hoping to get some feedback as I continue building it! Thanks heaps!
Oh and if you have any features you think might come in handy, please let me know! I'm sure there's so much that could be done with our devices that find each other and are connected via TCP/IP that isn't being done yet

Hi! Glad you found it useful
It's free, but you can upgrade to pro from the app - currently only file synching and PC shutdown/restart requires "pro"! I think as I add features in the future they'll most likely end up being part of the "pro" upgrade.

Certainly will! That's the next OS I'm going for actually.
Just wondering, what would you need it for - Android->MAC remote, or also due to file transfers? Some people have trouble with setting up windows shares between windows & OSX, and ML can be a replacement for that between win & osx too... Just wondering how you'd use it, as my wife is an OSX using photographer and I'm always annoyed by her backup needs with her weird (to me) file systems
I can completely understand about the shortcomings of the 'current' offerings, Sounds like ML is exactly what I've been missing for years.. (Wish I had something like this since I had my first android phone, to be honest).. Too bad I killed the battery in my tablet, but I'll be sure to test it out as soon as the tablet's charged and the phone is re-flashed.
Thank you
Hi. I've installed the app on my phone and Nexus 7. The Windows app is not playing at the moment. I keep getting a path error. Will report back tomorrow (it's late here), This could be really valuable. Thanks for your efforts. John
great work. this is what i waiting for
force close on kitkat
First time starting it gives an FC, after that it wont FC anymore, haven't recorded the logcat though. just saying
Working perfect on my Nexus 5. You sir are a genius. Very smooth and no-brainer install and usage. As matter of fact I typed this from the app itself :good:
Edit: I didn't like the icon so i made one for my use, but why not share it?
FC at startup with CM11 on ART
EDIT: second startup worked perfectly
Awesome. I think the icon above looks nicer, but apart from that, nothing much to say. Maybe try using different colours, maybe white instead of green would improve readability. Thumbs up
i'd love to have something like this for mac. as it stands android file transfer is not a great solution and i prefer just to adb push/pull things instead of using that.
hope there is a mac version soon!
Looking for the Linux version.
Once it's out, this will be my app.
I'm currently using a bunch of soft for the same things
- explorer ES for smb exploration
- Pushbullet for sharing pastes
- pydio for remote file access
- airdroid for some file exchanges
However some of these apps also works over mobile data and not only Wifi.

Hi All!
Thanks for the awesome feedback, glad people are liking it. I've noted your issues, and once I finish the next update I think I'll focus on building the mac & linux versions.
Also several requests for configurable UI colours, that's going to be a pain to code, but I think I'll have to do it in the end!
Please if anyone is seeing force closes, press the "Report" button. I may have found 1 cause of them but there may be others :-/
Thanks heaps!
Upon trying to activate the trial features after having had it installed for less than a minute, I get "Failed to start a MissingLink trial. Have you previously done a trial with this device?"
The answer is obviously "No," but the only option available is "OK."
Cannot find a price anywhere, and attempting to buy the pro version (since the trial is not available) results in an error.

From Apk to Ipa (or opening an apk app in ios device)

I have built a simple app using app inventor (I'm not a programmer), and I wonder if there is a way to use it also on IOS device. By converting it, or maybe by opening through a kind of android emulator.
I have seen that many question have been asked concerning the other way around (Ipa → Apk), and that no tool has been invented to do that). I wonder if there is a way (through Windows 7)
it could be possible
according to an answer of this question* on stack overflow : "Excepting time/effort/money and litigations (!), there is nothing inherently preventing an Android implementation on Apple hardware, however."
The answer provides some interesting solution, such as hosting your apk file on a website you could access with any device, or dual boot, or emulation.
Did anyone tried one of them?
*Is it possible to run .APK/Android apps on iPad/iPhone devices?

See, android works on xml and java
On the other side the ios apps use obj-c or swift... So it is not possible, you could learn obj-c or swift and essentially just make anotger app for ios, you made the app right, it wud b easy for u to make it again, just diff syntax right?
Thank me if i helped ?

This is the inital release and a testing version. I have only tested on my device, but it is working well. Please comment here if you have success.
Future updates may remove other items from the home screen and/or add compatibility. There is also a lot of potential for customization here.
Oh my GOD ! thanks you are my hero. Works perfect. The TV menu is really fast now !
Can we remove the unused space previously occuped by trending and others lg **** ? same as blocking their ip from the dns ?
First of all, thanks for sharing this.
While I'm clear on how to proceed for testing (USB drive, etc.), I would like to understand what you mean by "copy the script to /var/lib/webosbrew/init.d/".
init.d is a directory and I need to copy the file with your code there, correct?
Sorry for the stupid question but I'm a total newbie on webOS.
Legend, bought my new LG TV and was so disappointed seeing the new UI. Excellent work, I love the way you've used bind mounts to make things safer for folks to use, very clever. I had great fun fiddling with it.
For anyone curious, here's what the TV looks like after running this.
I've also noticed that when the TV boots, it shows a much nicer quick menu, like the older TVs had. I spent some time but was unable to figure out how to launch it. Would be pretty cool if we could restore the old home button functionality.

"(root) Startup user hooks (executable scripts present in /var/lib/webosbrew/init.d are run on bootup)"
Yes, copying the file there will enable the script to run when the TV boots, otherwise when the TV reboots the ads will be back.
The next version will have an option to auto install the script.
What's the difference between this and just adding a dns to block adds? Thank you
Just wanted to say thanks for this. It's really sped up my TV and made it all a bit smoother. 'm interested to see how you make it self install and how customisable that space is in the next version.
Is there an updated version for 6.3.1? The script fails on the checksum.
