One of the cons for JB was stated to be removal of flash. But its as easy to install and run flash on 4.1 as it was on 4.0.3. I don't even need to have flash pre-installed before JB upgrade.
Why was it made into such a big issue? I apologize if it comes across as too naive or obnoxious. Is there something more to it?
Nothing more to it. Just a bunch of people spreading false information.
Oh? I just factory reset, then updated to Jelly Bean. No Flash Player, and flagged as "not compatible with your device" on the Play store. What is your method for installing it?
Of course, I backed up the app before wiping, so I have a way to get it back, but you have me curious.

I believe if you already have flash installed, when you upgrade to JB, you still have flash. But if you factory reset, only JB apps remained. So you have to install it manually (that's why people recommend that you save Flash app) or restore from backup. If you don't have either, you can download from XDA or just google for it.

Haha, the statement infront justified the second statement: "But its as easy to install and run flash on 4.1 as it was on 4.0.3." So I think he said it's so easy to do it afterward, therefore he doesn't have to pre-installed, he could install anytime...maybe IDK!

Thats what I meant. When I got my infinity here in Canada in mid-August, it came with 4.0.3 without Flash. I had to go about manually installing it and same goes for JB. Its a bit ridiculous to read people holding on JB upgrade from ICS because of misinformation that Flash is no longer available.
The support for Flash on JB is just as good as its on ICS as of today... none!

Adobe itself has issues a statement that Flash will no longer be supported -- in the sense of actively developed -- for any Android version past ICS. Your statement lacks nuance as it is out now, denoting upfront and honest remarks as panicky or plain bull ('misinformation').

Flash hass been ill-supported from the beginning, but it has been the same song with Flash on any other platform -- on Windows, it is the most prevalent and most dangerous security hole imaginable, but you need it to browse so many sites....
You can sideload the Flash apk all you want, making it 'available', but it is no longer supported by Adobe. A regular install is indeed no longer available.

I grow increasingly weary of all threads reiterating the same questions over and over and over (all JB update errors are a good recent example). I'm very close to just ignoring them completely -- they just make you do their handiwork anyway. I'm amazed some people actually breathe on their own (at least I suppose they do).

You do realize that unless one uses a quote, one is answering the OT, and not 'the post above'?
My message was aimed at the dozens of blind chickens who keep making Flash-related topics, when the problem was discussed and solved months ago. Not at you.

After a few days of trolling around, I finally made the leap of faith and installed the ICS leak to my A2, then upgraded to SCV7. It was actually my first custom rom install. I've had root since owning the A1, but never installed a custom rom, or done anything more than upgrading OTA from the manufacturer. So needless to say it was a harrowing experience, lol, but I got through it and am now proudly running SCV7.
My question is, since the ICS leak is a stock Motorola rom, technically, will it work to install it alongside SCV7 using Bootmenu's second system feature? I'm going to guess not, as from what I can tell, the ICS leak needs the official bootloader (ie, not hijacked by Bootmenu.) And of course I figure if I were to try to install it via the stock bootloader it would overwrite SCV7... or worse. I'm obviously pretty new at this, but I'm learning, and just want to make sure I have all the information on everything before I try something. Hours and hours of reading got me enough confidence to do the upgrade and the custom rom install without a hitch. That being said, I HAVE searched and searched (like the new member video said... yes I watched it. That was hilarious) to see if anyone has tried this, and can't find anything. I'm kind of assuming it's something that is considered common knowlege (ie somebody's going to say well of course you cant do that dummy) but that I've overlooked.
Alternatively, could I revert back to the stock ICS leak rom, and then install SCV7 via Bootmenu's second system feature? That seems more likely to work, from what I can tell. However, if I can do it the other way, I'd much rather, as I have my phone nice and set up the way I like it lol.
Anyway, thanks guys for the awesome community and being kind enough to share your knowlege with us lesser beings! :victory:

So I could restore a stock backup to the second system with no problems, just like a custom rom? I just want to make sure there won't be a problem since it is a stock rom.

Yes, as long as you have formatted your webtop and the backup is under 1.3 gigabytes (never seen a backup anywhere close to that) there should be no reason it won't work.

Works like a charm! I didn't think that, being a stock rom, it would be so easy.
Alas though, it's not, as I can't seem to get enough space free to install any apps. Gotta read up more in the original bootmenu thread I guess. It says there's a fix, but so far it's greek to me. Back to researching.
EDIT: Hm, I reinstalled it, formatting the /webtop partition first, and it has 600mb now. Enough to get by I guess. Probably need to switch the stock rom to the first system and the SCV7 to the second system. Depends on which one I end up using more, which will mostly be determined by which one has better battery life.

Anything I should know before I root it?
Is it just like rooting my Note? Just use odin and a costume firmware?

You only can root while you on ICS version .30 or below. Once upgraded to JB there's a different procedure to obtain root. Here is the guide. If you have any question, just ask here. BTW tf700 is not same as galaxy note 2. NO ODIN for tf700.

After rooted on ICS, you need to download OTA rootkeeper from the market to preserve root (keep a copy of root), then use dlpkg method (incremental upgrade) to JB. If you use Asus full JB firmware, it's going to wipe out your root. Once you on JB, use OTA root keeper to restore root, then you need to unlock your device before you can install custom recovery (TWRP/CWM). From here on you can flash any custom rom that you like. I highly recommend TWRP, it works well with tf700. Some people do have issue with CWM.

To install a custom recovery you need to unlock your device, which will void your warranty. If,after unlocking, you want to have a way to recover from any software-induced brick situations, then BEFORE YOU UPGRADE, read the nvflash thread and get the required files from your device. You cannot do this once you upgraded!

Ive manually downloaded the stock jb zipfile from asus site. How can I flash it to my device? Idont have cwmrecovery.

I can take a few days or weeks for new devices to become unlockable - apparently Asus' unlocking server is always behind. Usually it helps to be patient and try again after a few days.

You can do that by unpacking the UpdateLauncher zip once (another zip is inside) and putting it onto a microSD card, then boot the tablet in recovery mode (hold down Volume-down while powering on). Some guides say that you must rename the zip to something specific, I don't know if that is still true. Beware: if you upgrade, you will lose the ability to ever use nvflash because the new bootloader is more locked down and can't be downgraded. Also you will lose root by flashing a complete firmware.

Came from the Prime to the Infinity and was hoping this device was smoother/faster and it seems to be even worse. Should I give up on Asus giving us good software? It's just frustrating having an S3 being so fast and smooth being a high end device and also having 4.1.1. Why the hell can't Asus get it right too?
Should I just unlock and get a custom rom on this? Is that the only way to get this tablet to be fast and smooth?
Sorry to butt in someones thread, but...Got my Infinity today at 11 AM.... Updated to JB, rooted, installed Titanium and all goodies.
Do not feel that it's any slower than Google Nexus 10.1 in no way. Ever screen, it's a less resolution per spec does not look any different.
Happy with it, great tab.

Yes, if you want your device to be fast and smooth you definitly need to unlock and install Cleanrom and Clemsyn kernel. Without them I probably throw mine in the trash.

I encountered a similar issue with another tab. I moved on from there to the TF700 only to relive the same experience. Next time I will do my research before buying another tab. I paid for the tab and I want to have complete control to 'abuse' it!
I've only had my TF700 for less then a week and I know already like my Galaxy S2&S3 I'm going to be rooting and installing a custom ROM on my TF700, strange that I didn't feel this way with my old Nexus 7 but man this TF700 is sweet but suffers from lag at times to where I need to do the Power/volume Down cleanout at least once a day and that helps but not enough...
As with my Galaxy S3 I don't want the newest wildest ROM rather one that is close to stock as possible YET is faster, cleaner and doesn't bog down... The double and triple taps to accomplish tasks or while browsing is driving me crazy already, I am totally surprised by this seeing this is the top of the line tablet and as good or better then the iPad hardware/processor wise..
So any suggestions and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! Now I'm off to start reading up on unlock and root procedures
PS: I am believe my TF700 is up to date (Running Stock JB ver. 4.1.1)...

Interesting sdbags in the little reading up I have done that does seem to be the most logical choice.. Reminds me of KyanROM I'm running on my GS3, well other then one is ICS and the other is JB lol... But both look to be stripped down/slightly jacked up stock ROMS, I always find these types have practically little conflicts with apps and include more customazation without taking a battery hit, speaking of lol.. Are you running CleanROM now and has your battery life increased or decreased?? Obviously that isn't as important with the Tablets(you won't miss calls if you get in trouble battery wise with a Tab). Also is there any Lag with CleanROM?? It is my biggest gripe and THE reason I'm looking to Root and Flash

Do a bit more reading up on the ROM development work for the Infinity.
You'll most likely be very happy stepping away from a stock ROM tablet and going with a custom version.

It can hardly be argues that sbdags is impartial in the matter -- I'm sure you are aware he is the developer of CROMI?
That being said, CROMI is one hell of a kick-*** ROM, and I'm currently running it myself -- it's VERY good in all regards, be it battery life or performance and fluidity. A lot of that depends on the kernel you use it with -- Clemsyn's 650 versions are really good candidates.
A little bit of the lag is still there, admittedly, but that's hardware-related and no developer can remedy that. CleanROM saved the 700 for a lot of users, and CROMI takes that a step further. Props to sbdags, obviously!

Haven't had much time to read up on unlocking and rooting yet but I'm seeing what version OS I have is quite important to how to root, I have JB 4.1.1 and I understand rooting and unlocking is different then those who had ICS..
Thank you for the Kernel/ROM combination suggestion, haven't had to deal with that much with my GS3 but with my old GS2 getting the Kernel/ROM Combo right was pretty tricky, sometimes different modems had to also be flashed to get it right..
Well after some reading here it looks a bit more complicated then I imagined to root and flash my TF700 compared to my phones...
is this correct:
First I need to get ICS Version for my TF700 off Asus site, put it on a microcard and flash back to ICS..
Then unlock, root and install RootLock.
Then update to JB.
Check and make sure my Root is still intact.
Finally install CleanROM..
CORRECT??

TWRP _is_ a recovery for flashing stuff, and CleanROM is pre-rooted, so you don't need to root it. And if you decide to install a non-rooted ROM, you can still use TWRP to flash a Superuser app from a zip to get root.

The tool Thats_OK pointed you toward is probably the same as you found, and the same as for the TF201 Prime and TF300T. I guess ASUS like KISS principles, hehe. It should work for JB as wel, IF you get some cooperation from the ASUS unlock server side. Apparently a lot of people have had trouble unlocking due to their device's serial number not being in the database. That's probably the biggest hurdle to overcome in the process.

Maybe I should just starting reading up on how to roll back to ICS and take it from there,
hard to believe a Unlock download hasn't been created yet seeing how many TF700t's are now on Jelly Bean 4.1.1?

Unlock process is very safe, its either works or not working. Most ppl bricked due to flash a wrong recovery or bootloader etc...but not unlocking.

adb/fastboot is nothing but a few .exe command. All you have to do is download Android SDK on your PC and install it like other software. During the install, just select Android packages (there are many in the option), should be only 2. After that there is a script (its a .bat file) to install custom recovery. This script will kick off adb and fastboot command so you automatically, all you have to do is double click on the script while connects your device to your pc. Once you have custom recovery, you home free.

Thanks buhohitr, having second thoughts now about unlocking now( too much $$ invested in tablet, keyboard and cases to blow warranty off ) and contemplating rolling back to ICS, ROOTING, using Rootlock then flashing CleanROM... probably same amount of steps plus warranty is still intact.. yes?
I have tried Rooting I have even unlocked my tablet as it seems that this might have made rooting easier I have updated to JB. The easiest mething I found i keep getting a ADB server out of date message i tried doing the ADB Fix program and it says there was not issue please point me in the right direction to root a TF700 easily again my device is unlocked hopefully this helps the process more than hurts

I recommend you use the forum's search feature. You'll find many, many, posts related to your situation.
Or now you are unlocked you can flash a custom stock ROM that is already rooted.
Visit the dev section. All you need is a custom recovery and you are set to go.

search a couple more times on the forum itself and was able to find a method that worked. it did take 3 days of active searching (like 3-5 hours a day) only reason i posted in the first place

Well if you are unlocked you just need to do two things ....
1. Install a custom recovery (head over to TWRP or CWM thread in dev section)
2. Either flash a custom rom or super user (SUPERSU) package from said custom recovery.
If you can't find one I will make you one but I am sure there is one in the dev section.

Can you post a specific method you have tried for rooting the Infinity?
It's really important to include details of your attempt so that those trying to help know where in the process you are exactly.
Typically one needs to return to an Ice Cream Sandwich version 4.03 copy a downloaded file to the external SDCard (preferably while inserted in a card reader on ones Windows PC) rename to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.ZIP"
Reboot tab and look for the OTA message in the notification bar.
Once returned to ICS (Android 4.03) degugfs can be implemented to attain root.
After root is successful from ICS then OTA Rootkeeper can be used to save root when upgrading to Jellybean.

Not sure there.
I believe the manual update notice may appear even after an unlock.
When I unlocked my bootloader and was running stock for a month I did not get any OTA updates when they released the update for 10.4.4.25. I had to go to their site and put it on my microsd card and update it that way.

No, unlocking disables the OTA facility. But you knew that, too, didn't you?
I love these rhetorical questions.

Once you have NvFlash installed, you can safely update to whatever version you like -- you can recover with your backups to the state it was in, as far I know. ANY update you perform at this moment in time will prevent NvFlash from being installed, so make sure you get through that procedure first. After that... no worries.

If I interpret his question correctly, it's rather how to find out what exactly that update is that is "announced" at the screen shot, before he lets it update.
Either way, if you would like to unlock and flash custom ROMs AND you are still on v9.4.5.21, then you really should take the opportunity to nvflash. You never know ... and if you entered the game too late (as myself) as of right now you have no chance to do nvflash. You still have it!
