Ridding the web of Tapatalk / forum burner /etc - General Questions and Answers

I almost enjoy browsing the web on my tablet more then my PC. Except one annoying thing.
It seems A LOT of forums are now using tapatalk, forum burner, and other paid apps. What's the problem? I don't want it, but every other forum I access will popup messages asking me to buy their app. Some forums even pop it up with every page view!
Further, these seem to add an additional 'signature' to its user's forum posts informing me that they use tapA talk, on every single post. Why is this a problem? Because forums already support signatures, and have recognised that some people don't want to see these repeditive signatures, and provided a way to hide them. Tapatalk has gone ahead and bypassed this feature for the sole purpose of marketing their app.
I'm sorry, maybe I'm just old fashioned, but spamming every user on the internet to use your program is considered....spam, to me anyway. I might even enjoy using tapatalk, but I will never know. I simply refuse to install software from a company that uses such sleezy business practices. I will not be harassed into installing your software.
Chrome and 'Browser' popup blockers don't block them. Is there any way of disabling this without disabling JavaScript entirely?
It is remarkable that so many forum webmasters have accepted this as the norm and assist in its spam. Do they get a cut of the sales? I don't know, but what I do know is its making my web browsing experience on my tablet more painful then it should be.

You ever figure this out? Seems I'm always tracking down a new interest and searches land me on never-before-visited forums, each one quick to spam me that they too support some sort of dedicated app with an annoying popup. Gets even worse when cookie-less/incognito browsing.

First off the app is great its 100%better than using a browser i recommend it highly. Secondly the sig is optional you can write whatever you want or disable it completely. I think ppl usually leave it saying sent using tapatalk to inform others of the app that's how i found out about it. And im glad i found it its a much better interface than scrolling and zooming on web browser

IMdb Mobile

Hello.
i looking for apps to add to my phone, and i really want an imdb mobile app.
After searching i have came to the conclusion that non exists (please correct me if im wrong).
i then found this site
Code:
http://nolanbrown.com/imdb
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
it redirects if you use IE , using chrome it appears to work.
after reading the about bit
"Since being released January 5, 2008, IMDb Mobile has been raved about as one of the best web applications available for the iPhone. It was voted a "Staff Pick" by Apple, made Apple's Most Popular page in Entertainment and in a mere 15 days, IMDb Mobile received more then 20,000 visitors."
it appears it was designed for iphone viewing and i guess the creator set it up to check for the browser and have a blacklist (it appears his blog not updated in some time, maybe chrome wasnt out when the he had the blacklist??? i dunno only guessing) so i assume changing the user agent on one of my mobile browser would make this site visible (unless anyone has a quicker solution).
i dont really want to change the user agent everytime so anyone know a imdb mobile app / quicker solution to use that site.
thank you for your time.
larry.
+1 for a IMDB Mobile App...would definitely be a nice app to have!
I would also like to get one...
Just as an alternative solution you can use the ebook-reader TomeRaider3, as they have the imdb database as a free download on their site (approx. 158mb) to read offline
Will give it a try...but I think an online app would be even better
Nevertheless thanks for your share!
Ascenca
i used to use it
i thought it was rather poor though, and if i remember correctly it is quite limited in what information it gives you.
the proper site works not too bad though.
Just downloaded this for my HD2 its an upgrade of a slightly older one and runs great once you go into the settings and assign a video player for the trailers to play on. In my case i navigated to windows/ windows media player

Android Market Give Away??

I was just wondering if Google or anyone else had noticed this loophole?? Download a paid App, back it up to your SD card, get a refund for the paid App and then reinstall using the backed up App.
It isn't something I have done or will do but was wondering if this does actually affect things or the App??

That is interesting but I don't think so.
Doing that would be the same as downloading warez...not welcome on XDA
You won't have access to future updates, also, doing this regularly makes you a douchebag.
Like I say, it isn't something I do and I support the Android community. Was just thinking that it seemed such an easy way to exploit the Market and maybe Google should do something about it.

Not being an actual developer I may have some details off, but...
I think Google implemented an app authentication API that checks with the mothership when you run a program to see if your Google account is authorized to run the app.
I ran into an issue with this (I really should let the developer know, don't know if it was an issue of the API, or their implementation) with Locus Pro. I had been using the free app for a while and decided that I liked the app enough to throw some dough towards the developer. So, I purchased and downloaded the Pro version and immediately threw it on the SD card (Moto Droid1, <256M for apps... need every Meg I can get...). First time I tried to run the program it started up and then popped up a notification stating that I wasn't authorized to use the app. I moved it back onto the phone and ran it again. This time it worked. Then I moved it back to the SD card and haven't had an issue since. I'm hoping that the app doesn't decide to check with the mothership next month (when I'll be heavily using it) while I'm in Sweden w/o a data connection.
What about all of those tablets that don't have the Market installed? Surely these Apps can be sideloaded and there would be no way to check the validity of these Apps.

As stated above, weather it works or not, it would be considered warez and everyone knows our stance on it.

Looking for apps that use notification bar ads and your horrible experiences w/ them

I'm a developer who distributes free and paid apps on the Play Store, and have recently been seeing accusations that my apps use notification bar advertising.
MY APPS DO NOT USE THIS TRASH AND NEVER WILL.
I actually have avoided advertising altogether, (I'm using the free-lite-version/paid-full-version model).
I want to put some apps on a test phone that actually do use notification bar ads to determine if this is simply random chance or if perhaps these apps are doing more nefarious things like waiting for other APKs to be installed before pushing ads, or waiting until other app-processes are in the foreground before pushing ads. This may be difficult as I believe the push rate is fairly infrequent.
My wild guess is that these apps aren't that evasive, though their design is still to disassociate the advertising from the app that is its source. I imagine they simply delay a week or more before firing the first ad, and probably only do so if the device is asleep.

Edit: if you do know of any apps that do this, please post links here (on the Play Store or off). I have no idea what apps actually do this, and so far haven't run into any myself.
Thanks for your dedication. I will follow this thread and try to spread the word.
On my Samsung I long press the notification and i can see the app info of the app that actually sent the notification, maybe you can use this to know which apps are messing with yours

Thanks, but I actually don't have any such apps on my devices at this time...this is all coming from user reviews, so I don't actually know which other apps they have installed that might be firing the push ads.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/mjva1/list_of_known_airpush_enabled_infested_apps/)
BTW, I personally have a Tasker profile I enable/disable on need. It just logs all notifications with the notification's title and app, allowing me to detect airpush apps.
EDI: I remember some game kept sending chinese ads to my notification bar, and if I remember correctly, I had it for quite some time before it started doing so.. and it only started doing so after I installed another app. I'm not entirely certain about it as it happened a few months back, but now that you mention it, it might have been the same scenario.

Best chat app?

Hi,
I have a website and quite a few members have suggested that adding a chat room would be a great idea.
I'm searching for something I might be able to integrate well into my site.
Has anyone tried RumbleTalk or C-box?
I made a lot of research in
finding a chatroom for my website. I used envolve for a
while till they closed up, pitty. I tried IRC but I truly did not like
the look and feel and the “mess” of text in there.
I had several points which are important to me.
1
– First I needed a chat that can be seen in mobile (all versions) so I
narrowed down the search for html5 chat room that look good on both
mobile and pc.
2 – I needed a custom design, I needed my background to be black or transparent. This was very hard to find (my site is dark).
3 – I do not like to install the chat in my server as this is high cpu and resource consumer. So I need a chat service.
4 – Lastly, I needed the ability to add youtube videos and upload files.
I have checked several chats and only 2 met my needs, RumbleTalk and Cbox.
I choose RumbleTalk finally as it can be integrated into my page and not only as toolbar.
PHPBB Social Network, search on Internet Bro. xD
in Indonesia we mostly used BBM..
but i think whatsapp ist better
Well I was looking for a html chat. I did quite deep research on it in the last year. Tried over 20 of them and I can tell you, the best one is Rumbletalk. Thats for sure!
Rumbletalk is number one!
It is. It also has a free trial available now.

The thing is that with Rumbletalk you can manage just about anything. Backround, text style, wight and height of the chat room, etc etc,.. That is why so many people love it. You can also use it as a floating chat or as a window chat.

Chrome: download manager mess up and help disabling link disambiguation popups

Hello.
About the “download manager mess up” take a look here (grossness warning!): Can't STOP a built-in manager download in an acceptable way… :-/ (v56, v57-Beta) @ Google forums
Briefing for documenting purposes: built-in download manager intercepts certain download links' files, I guess because of file extension (apk files not captured, for example). However, built-in download manager is deprived from file download cancelling ability. Had to delete all of the application data to stop the mess.

}
In essence, a dodgy issue. Not overly critical in most situations, of course, but certainly dodgy. Better do not tap/click on overkill sized files, or you'll regret it.
With regards to the link disambiguation popups, this is something I've wished to get a solution for some time already, to no avail. So let me explain:
There are sites on which no popups are seen. Example: this very forum. You can tap where you want or need without popups. If something's a little cramped, just a little bit of zoom is all you may ever need. I use “force enable zoom” and you should also if not, as you may guess.
There are certain sites, though, where this is stuff gets in the way. Notorious example: eBay desktop mode (I've included the desktop site redirection to make your life easier in case you are using the @#$% mobile user agent).
It is obvious that there's something in these damned sites' coding which forces Chrome to go into “link disambiguation popup” disgusting mode. So, if any of you may know some sort of way to prevent the browser going disgusting mode, God would be grateful. Maybe some sort of mod and/or app? Any feedback/contribution welcome.
Mostly wrote this because I've recently revisited the Firefox browser, and I've been on the verge of switching to it. Too bad Firefox has 0 bookmark management capabilities.
Have a good time fellows.
Cheers
