Hello everyone, I haven't been on XDA since the HTC wing came out. I've scoured the forums and noone seems to be having the exact problems. I am VERY new to android and may have potentially messed up my tablet.
Anyway, I would really appreciate it if you extraordinary gentlemen could give me some assistance with my TF101. I want to install CWM and root it and install custom ROMs.
First, here are the symptoms:
1.USB cannot connect to the tablet
2.USB cable can charge the tablet just fine with the adapter
3.When trying to access recovery, boots to bugdroid with the blue prism then goes to bugdroid lying down with a red triangle and exclamation point on top of it
What I did to get to this position:
1. did not note what build I was on but used ViperMODS Primetime [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427125] and option 1 to root.
2. Used VooDoo OTA root keeper to back up the root.
3. upgraded to the newest OTA update...9.2.1.21
4. used the back up to "root" with Voodoo OTA RootKeeper
5. Used Rom Manager to "flash" Clockworkmod recovery. First time froze... restarted the tablet and did it again with "success"
Then the symptoms showed up. So what did I do? and how can I fix it? thank you to anyone who offers their input!
your problem is using rom manager use Gnufabio's recovery installer to put the right one in then reflash the stock firmware or a custom rom to get rid of the recognition problem
Tried recovery installer, it says i am not rooted.
from what I read, I have to downgrade before I can root, correct?
But I cant use ADB because of the usb problem... so what can i do?
Have you tried reinstalling the newest asus sync driver? I have to reinstall the driver once in a while because adb won't see my tf.

Try this
look in system/bin to see if you have su there
copy su to system/xbin and try RecoveryInstaller again

It says permission is denied.. which means im not rooted. but I do have the superuser app showing in my tray and root checker confirms that I am rooted... wth!
ive been at this for a full week and i am being thoroughly frustrated...
EDIT!!! I tried a full wipe, and after your trick the process went through! ty! and so now... whats next? just flash a custom rom?
One question... the USB issue is a hardware, software, or bad luck problem? Meaning would the flashing of a custom ROM possibly fix this issue?
Any of the 3. A rom Might fix it, but it's more likely a driver issue on your computer. Linux wouldn't need drivers, so if you have access to a linux machine try that.

Ah I see... because I ordered another TF101 for my mom.. so I guess A) I can try her USB cable and/or B) do this trial and error thing to see if its my port thats busted... do they sell the part? meaning... is it soldered in or ribbon like most phone parts?
Go ahead and try her cable, but the ones that come with are usually fine. I really would think it's driver related.
I've had my Galaxy Tab 2.0 7 for about 5 months now, and have rooted it, installed Modded ROMs, etc. Really enjoyed it.
However, yesterday, I decided to clean up my 32 gig external memory chip, and hooked up the USB cable to the computer as in the past.
Whoops! PC will now not recognize the tablet in USB mode. Nothing changed from the day before, both PC and tablet had worked together then.
Now, I get this message in the Device manager of the PC "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
I tried the normal things, reinstalling drivers, using different USB ports, etc. Nothing worked. So, I'm assuming that I had a hardware failure
in the tablet or the USB cord that came with it.
I'd like to know if there is anyway to "Root" my tablet by Using wireless? That still works, and I can move stuff off and onto the tablet. But I
would still like to have the obvious advantages of it being rooted.
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give.
OK, first off, if you've already rooted it and installed custom ROM's, why would you need to root it again? you talk of reinstalling drivers but have you rebooted BOTH the computer and the tablet since this problem occurred and you redid the drivers? Why are you trying to connect to the computer to erase files on the tablet, you do know there is a file manager in android that you can use to delete files? If you don't mind buying the pro version there is an app called "wifi file transfer" that connects to your PC via a web browser and you can copy files off and on (never done onto myself) your tablet with over wifi, I use it when I'm at work and don't have my cords with me but need to moves pictures from an android device to my laptop.

Need to root it again, because somehow, the root was removed. Still works just fine, have busybox and clockwork recovery, but it is not rooted. Don't ask me why. And, yes, I have rebooted both units, probably 4 or 5 times - reinstalled drivers several times. I normally use wireless to remove files, because it is faster, and easier to find the files I want. I have WiFi Transfer Pro, but that doesn't help the "root" situation. I don't have any problems moving files onto and off of the tablet, just can't root without USB connectivity.
No Answers, I guess. What this boils down to:
Is there anyway to root this device without using USB connectivity?

Here is a tutorial for rooting with cwm, I'm not sure how well it works though.

I guess just download the cwm root file and flash it.

If you have clockwork mod working then all you need to do is flash the same ROM you are running, you should then be up and running with a fully functional rooted ROM if I'm not mistaken

That is for flashing cwm, which you said you all ready have. You just skip to step 11 since you have cwm. There is a cwm flash able root.zip on the page.

wich rom are you using right now?? beacuse if by loosing root you just mean that you do not have anymore the superuser app that does not mean that you losto root!!! for example on my PAC-ROM i have root but no superuser app because superuser is integrated in the setting menu!!!
and so i think that now it is the same for most CM based ROM.
But if you easly want to check it just install from play store superSU from chainfire! it will check root on the first opening!!

I am using the "PSN_Stock_P3100XXDMB1_4.1.2" ROM. And I indeed lose "Root", but still had SU and busybox. How it happened, I'm not quite sure. I followed bluecarbon's advice, and flashed a cwm flash able root.zip. That did it very nicely. I now have root and am a very happy camper.
Thanks to everyone, especially bluecarbon.
No problem, now i know it works. I always do the opposite. I root then flash cwm, so...Now I know.

Good Evening,
AT&T LG G2 rooted, TWRP. Have installed a few different roms but mostly used PA. All of a sudden the phone started experiencing issues with cell Data. So I did a clean install of PA and then had issues with BT, did another clean install and had issues with Wifi.
So I decided ok maybe its time to go back to stock. Hook it up to a win7 computer... Device manager doesn't see it at all (doesn't show up AT ALL). Says charging and that is it, does not recognize that it is hooked up to a computer. Have tried several different computers now and several different USB cables. The only way I could try other roms was downloading via wifi. Tried a stock rom and still experiencing issues.
I think there is something wrong with the phone so I want to get it warrantied, but without hooking it up to a computer I can not figure out any way to remove the custom recovery or revert it to stock. No matter what I do no computer will even recognize the phone is connected, let alone trying to install drivers. Device manager just straight up does not see it.
Any help or suggestions is GREATLY appreciated. Any way to remove recovery/root without a PC connection?
UPDATE: Here was my solution
Took some work but I figured out a way to do it in case anyone else ever runs in to this:
(make sure you are stock rom or on a stock rooted rom before proceeding)
First download the stock recovery.img on the device.
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime...10B_Partitions
Then download/open Terminal Emulator and type:
su
Then
cd /sdcard/downloads
Then
dd if=/sdcard/downloads/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
That replaces TWRP/CWM with the stock recovery.
Then open supersu, go to settings, towards the bottom is full unroot.
Yay no more custom recovery or root on stock rom.
If you are planning on getting warranty you need to use download mode and the back to stock guide also that is the best way to flash to stock and get rid of problems

Agreed, problem is the computer will not see the phone, so I can't use the program to flash it back to stock.
It's not just a driver or com issue, the computer does not see it AT ALL. Device manager doesn't see a new device when I plug it in (in OS, in Download mode, nothing).

Have you tried different usb ports also very important are you using original cable that came with the phone in my case if I try many of the different cables I have, only the stock one works for download mode

Different usb ports, different computers, different cables (stock one included). No luck. Phone says download mode then goes to "firmware update" and says at the bottom B53 then "ROOTED" in red letters. Nothing appears in device manager.
In android regarless of rom if I plug it in it doesn't act like I plugged it in to a computer, just charging. Again nothing in device manager regardless of USB debugging or not.
currently have twrp 2.6.3.3, running D80210b 4.2.2, with baseband M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190034
What I really need to know is if there is any way to restore stock recovery and remove root without using that method (ie using Terminal Commands or flashing a package, since I can download via wifi).
I am pretty sure this phone has a messed up USB port, but I don't really want to send it in with it rooted/twrp on it .

Did you try restore & reset functionality on the phone? I had somewhat similar issue with the plug & pop feature (although my laptop recognized the phone under Devices & Printer but it didn't show it as a separate drive) when I flashed CM11 but then I did a full factory reset, everything goes back to normal. Also you might try uninstall LG driver and reinstall it. Hope this help.

Unfortunately it is not a driver issue, it doesn't show up in device manager at all, on several machines.
I have tried multiple different roms, factory rests, even tried ADB sideloading, no luck.
i remember there's this app called Auto Rec that has an option to unroot the device or something like that.

It worked perfectly and I got the phone exchanged without any hassle, but if your USB is working there are plenty of better ways to return to stock. This was an option I had to use because of USB not functioning. I mean this would allow you to unroot without wiping/restoring but if your going to send the phone in anyway you might as well wipe it as well.

I am a bit afraid of the other methods I saw and this one seems easier
I have a question if you can answer to me.
I restored the official rom from TWRP and did all the process you wrote. Is there any way to check if now I have the stock recovery?
And to see if I am now ready to send my phone to LG?

So I have to congratulate and thank once more this man @crawlgsx for this great thread.
It worked on my D802 (international model) and got it repaired by the official service center of LG in Greece.
Great work, with no need of PC and difficult processes.
Noob question, but will this allow users to take OTA updates? Running stock rooted right now and really don't want revert to stock to get latest ota, but this seems pretty seamless. Thanks.

I believe that in order to take OTAs you must be on stock rom and stock recovery. Be rooted will not be a problem if you have these stock but when OTA installed you will lose root access.
If I am wrong, correct me someone.
Hi
Sorry to bump this thread but I need to unroot my AT&T G2 800 so get the warranty.. I had taken the stock backup using twrp.
Can I restore the restore it using twrp ? and do i need to install Terminal emulator on my restored stock rom and then do the commands ?
Are there any chances of bricking the phone ?
First off thanks to everyone who tries to help me out, you don't know how much it is appreciated!
I will try to keep it short and sweet, I installed a rom that did not work and now my phone will not load past the boot image of the google "colored circles", I have tried to connect my phone to my computer to drop new rom files in my phone but I am unable to do that because my computer does not recognize my phone being connected it makes a sound when I plug it in with the usb but doesn't show connected even when I jtry to flash a new rom in ODIN. I currently have T-Mobile and have CWM Recovery that I am still able to boot into. I used a online backup app through google play store to back up my phone before doing anything, and I was under the impression it was going to also save it in my phone and didn't my fault for not double checking. How do I fix this problem I know someone more SAVY than me can probably fix this easily so once again thanks for the HELP.

Well, Odin is only for Samsung phones. So don't use that. I recommend downloading the factory image (there is a sticky for it), and do a little reading on how to return to stock. It's all the same sticky thread.
Why are you using Odin? That's for Samsung devices. Do you have a nandroid backup you can flash in recovery?

As far as the nandroid backup goes as I said I used a online backup app that backs the nandroid in the cloud and i was under the impression that it would backup a copy to the system as well.....well looks like I didn't do my due diligence because the app did not save anything to my sytem files on my phone. Look in the general forum for the tutorial on how to return to stock. You can probably get by by just flashing the system.img and rebooting. That'll save all your data. See the second method in the tutorial and just use fastboot flash system system.img

Ok, I figured it out and got my phone back to stock with 4.4.3 installed rerooted and applied the tether fix, and audio fix. I don't know whether adb pull works on stock recovery as I haven't tried it on stock recovery. You will need to try that out.
However, if USB Debugging is enabled on that device, you can boot up the phone normally till the lockscreen and use adb pull. It will work as long as USB debugging is enabled from developer options.
