I am about to buy a HTC Sensation. However, my provider (Swisscom, Switzerland) offers it only with Branding. Is there a way I can flash such a branded device with the original ROM from HTC? Is it available anywhere? Will I have problems because of the signed bootloader? Thanks in advandace for any help!
Currently, the goldcard method doesn't seem to be working. That's the only way to flash an official ROM without having an unlocked bootloader.
So, currently, sadly no way to do it. Hopefully when HTC release an unlocked bootloader for it, we will see changes.

Do you know whether HTC is planning to do so at all? I heard they wanted to make future bootloaders unsigned, but will the Sensation get an "Update" or something like that to have it unsigned?
I asked HTC about how and when the bootloader will be unlocked and they just tweeted me back saying "Good question. More specific details will be shared soon."
So yeah... :/

Hello,
Got a HTC Sensation from Swisscom and I'm wondering the same, any news on this?
I tried an update found on the forum: version 1.35.401.1, tried to install and said 'wrong client id'... Didn't update.
Just sent a request to HTC customer support to know if I'll get the OTA... But I don't expect much from this.
If I can't unlock and root this phone I'm gonna get rid of it and will never get a HTC again, that's one sure thing. Already regret having bought it, should have waited for it to be unlocked first!

You'll have to wait for HTC to unlock the bootloader (or for AlphaRev to do that before HTC). Expect HTC do provide the full unlock in September.
PS. I bought it unbranded meanwhile.
Well, I got a AT&T HTC ONE X( it's xl actually ).:victory:
I need to ROOT that.It said that if I want to root that.I need to unlock that first. So I try to unlock the phone by HTCDEV.
One click root not work.
One click unlock not work.
Then there came a error with a error code 160. MID ERROR.
Well, then I read some materials and know that unlocking the phone need to root first...
Okay, now I have been totally confused with that.......
Anyone can tell me how to deal with that?
Oh, my version is 2.20.502.7 710RD.
It said that it is a root-available version?
Please help me , I am not so familiar with them.

If you really searched you would simply have to type HTC one x 2.20 root and find that it is unrootable yet
Hi lucentworld
You don't need root to get a custom rom onto your phone. Once you follow the HTCDEV instructions, then you can unlock the bootloader.
Once the bootloader is unlocked, the phone is unlocked to be able to put whatever custom recovery on it you want
Once you have a custom recovery installed then you can put whatever custom ROM on it you wish.
Just because 2.20 is unrootable, this means you cant get root on the standard ROM. But once the bootloader is unlocked, that ROM goes in the bin anyways.
The HTCDEV way DEFINITELY works. I did it on my sisters One XL telstra without rooting first, she was on the latest unrootable ROM.
Good luck

Thanks for your insult. Hope you get banned for your rudeness.
I did not know ATT blocked unlocking. Here in Australia, we don't have such anal carriers. I was able to unlock my sisters One XL by the HTCDEV way. I was simply mentioning the way that I achieved unlocking. Nice overreaction.
Damn, after reading the guides myself. It looks like you are pretty screwed if you have the ATT One X on that version. I was a bit thrown by the mention of One XL. Here in Aus, we have the One X (international tegra quad core) and the One XL (qualcomm dual core). Its a little less confusing, One X = quad core One XL = dual core. It seems in the states, you have ATT One X = dual core, Rodgers One XL, and International One X

LOL, no probs dude,
The Telstra ver. has LTE
And 3G coverage that covers most of the country
Vodafone, Optus and virgin are left with the One X (tegra)
I am happy with the performance and battery life of the One XL, the missus has a Tegra One X, and I really cant tell the difference. Both were just as hard to Root/Unlock
Good Luck OP :good:
So the only thing I can do is to wait for a method to root the 2.20?

Just bought a HTC One X from At&t (I know, should've waited for the X+, but I can't go without a phone for a month). I'm new to Android from having an iPhone 4 for the longest time and I'd love to root my device. I've done lots of reading and I can't seem to find a clear answer as to if I can root my device. I've been to htcdev and I can't get the official unlock to work. I've found mixed results by searching where some people successfully unlocked their phones, others said it was impossible, and others said that they had just done the htcdev unlock incorrectly.

Sorry to be the one to tell you but at this point in time root for 2.20 is impossible until we figure out a to exploit to achieve root. Hope I didn't ruin your day. Hopefully we start getting intelligent ideal and get root to unlock bootloader.

If you had done some reading you would have found the answer very easily. Yet another 2.20 thread.
Hello, all.
I am currently stationed overseas in Japan and on au KDDI service and had purchased the HTL21 HTC J Butterfly.
I unlocked bootloader on my first device using SharpIS method of changing SuperCID (22222222) and getting unlock_code.bin from HTC Dev site on stock firmware phone shipped with (1.15 version I believe). Was rooted and running stock. Phone hard bricked about a week after SuperCID process was done and I wasn't fiddling with anything after I rooted phone, so I don't think it bricked from this.
au kindly traded my hard bricked phone for a brand new replacement (yay!). I was hesitant to root this one due to the last one hard bricking and possibly being detected when sent to HTC for repairs. I saw there was a software update and I... STUPIDLY... updated to the latest firmware thinking it would be easier to root after the update rather than go through the process of flashing stock recovery and flashing then losing root. I've had an HTC device before that I'd unlocked and S-OFF so I know how much of a pain it can be.
Now after 1.29.970.1 OTA, I got the itch to tinker again and I no longer can do temproot method to rewrite SuperCID using goroh kun root tools and SharpIS rewrite method. I type adb shell command and I get $, but when I do dev/sh command it says "device not found" and no # (which I know is root access). This is similar to what Droid DNA (sister device) on Verizon are dealing with on their new updates or ones that shipped with latest firmware.
My question is: Is there some other way to get temproot and another root exploit that would allow me to rewrite the CID to SuperCID (22222222 or whatever number if HTC blocked that one too) so I can unlock bootloader?
fnoji111, SharpIS, and goroh kun have come up with some previous exploits that have been patched in this OTA. I have read some poorly Google-translated tutorials on HTCsoku on how to downgrade where fnoji111 states he had luck downgrading and RUU to previous version but I have had no luck (still get main version lower failure message). I have also searched but have found no other exploits other than the one SharpIS posted in the developer forums which is no longer valid due to 1111111 SuperCID being blocked on HTCDev and now temproot no longer allows access to full administrator write permissions using the rootkit. I am not a developer but I have done this process before with this device and an HTC Evo 3D many times and I can follow a clear instruction. Please help!
For the record I am:
S-ON
Bootloader locked
Software version 1.29.970.1
Hboot version 1.41.0000
Radio 1.01.10.0201 (probably irrelevant)
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies!

While I appreciate the attempt to answer my problem, as I said in my OP I tried the method by SharpIS03 and it no longer works after OTA to 1.29.370.1. I successfully did this method with previous phone at 1.15.370.1. What's been explained is new OTA is new update disabled write permission to system partition meaning no temproot.

Not work with unlock code.... To unlock must be reflashed the radiobaseband... I DON'T kknow-how if with xsim or turbosim it is posibile!
I have no idea if we have some hope to use this phone or of is better to switch directly to anoher one.... taking in account that au introduced already htc one with 13 ultrapixel camera that maybe means less interest for butterfly and less people that gonna work on it...._

Have been a long time loyalist to LG phones over the past 4 years but am getting frustrated at the trend of bootloader locks with at&t handsets. I originally owned the G1 Dream and then the HTC Desire HD from HTC back in their heyday... Both were great phones to tinker with for the rom enthusiast. I have not bought an HTC phone since, because I could not trust their flippant camera choices. I ordered the LG G6 and sold it for the t mobile model, only to discover it may be fully locked down for a while, even with the t mobile model (fastboot commands stripped from the handset for some reason).
Guess I'm looking for a next gen phone with a killer camera and ability to flash to stock Android roms when they're available. Who here knows if I can expect this phone to be fully available for bootloader unlock to TWRP and rom support? If not, I just may end up selling my phone and wait for the Pixel 2 to be released otherwise.

I agree its almost a given its gonna happen. Its just HTC's thing.
From HTC's website http://www.htc.com/us/go/htc-u11-unlocked/
"The GSM Unlocked HTC U11 is the same great device as any HTC smartphone, but without unnecessary pre-loads or SIM restrictions. You'll experience more phone freedom than ever!
The GSM Unlocked edition on HTC.com allows you to pop in an activated SIM from the carrier of your choice* and change carriers at will, or to unlock the bootloader without voiding your warranty.
Your HTC warranty even covers bootloader unlocking on the HTC U11!
For more bootloader unlocking info, visit www.htcdev.com"
Also, there's been a working build of TWRP for this device for almost 2 months, so that shouldn't be a concern either .
Unfortunately you're going to have to find someone else to maintain it, though, since I can't afford to buy a U11.

There are SIM-locked versions of U11 that are sold by carriers, Sprint for sure and maybe some EMEA carrier variants.
No version will be bootloader unlocked out of the box, but all (including carrier ones) will be bootloader unlockable through HTCDev. Usually, only Verizon / EE have their handsets blacklisted from HTCDev, but Verizon doesn't have its own version of U11, not sure about EE.

No there's no chance to brick using HTC Dev to unlock. Just choose the "All other supported models" option at the bottom of the list.
