Basically this is a WiFi issue with all CM10/AOKP fresh installed after Sep the 11th.
I said Sep the 11th because that is the best refference I can find.
If I flash any CM10?AOKP based ROM released after that date I lose wifi on 1st reboot after initial setup. To get the wifi working I have to toggle on the wifi manually, or toggle off and then on or reboot. I could not find a pattern. At the end the problem is that the wifi does not start on boot by itself. Let me be very clear here. Fresh flash.
Now here is the strange thing. I have several nands for Paranoid, CM10, SlimBean (unfortunately none for AOKP), taken pervious to that date and if I dirty flash to the last release everything works fine. No problems with the wifi.
The stock ROMs all of them work fine, fresh or dirty flashed.
I googled the internet and checked xda and other forums. I found just couple of similar situations but with no working solution .
One of them says that you have to odin back to stock, connect to wifi and then flash CM10. I did that and no go.
I tried different routers in different wireless configurations, same problem. Static ip and stuff.
Sometimes I get the wifi network "not in range" or the toggle for wifi in setting semi off or on.
If this is a wifi driver problem then:
1. can I get an old CM10/AOKP driver injected to the new releases?
2. why when I dirty flash the old driver (present in nand) does not get overwritten?
3. did you see anywhere a similar problem or it's only me.
Thanks in advance for your help.
same issues here on any build of aokp. wifi works until after a restart. i get the out of range error or wps failed. i have to shut off wifi and turn it on to connect. really annoying. funny thing is on ics i have no issues with wifi auto connecting.
ideas? Kinda weird only a small handful of people have this going on.
I've noticed WiFi issues also while on cm10. Lately I've noticed WiFi becoming better in more recent nightlies. However I've been doing clean flashes, and not restoring any system settings from backups. Even unclicking the boxes from the initial startup that allows Google to backup and restore settings on the phone. I'm assuming that possibly some setting/config is being restored causing the issue... just a thought

Nope i dont restore anything and always do a fresh clean install. If i had to guess its a buggy wifi driver that causes issues with certain routers. That would explain why very few have our issues. I guess for now ill stick to beans rom and wait for the jb ota.
Its worse than i thought as i have this issue on all the aosp varients. I just tried cm10, all aokp, liquid and slimbean. Same wifi error. I nandroid back to beans ics rom and everything is fine. Its got to be a wifi driver issue. There has to be more than myself and the op having this issue.

I flashed Weapon v3.0 a few weeks ago (and wiped everything in CWM) and regardless of the WiFi sleep policy, I constantly need to disable and re-enable WiFi to get it to work after my phone's been inactive for a while. If I don't anything using the internet just times out. I came from xboarder's rooted GB OTA and didn't have this problem, and I didn't have this problem with CM7 either. Any help?
Use cm7 then its way better

I liked CM7, but I had that stupid APN issue so data wouldn't work, both on the RC and 7.1.0.1 stable. The APNs Backup/Restore app works temporarily, but I don't want to reboot my phone every time I do that. I'm probably going to try nightly 201 next, but I still would like to know why Weapon has this WiFi problem while I don't see anyone else having it.
Happens to me on cm7 regardless of sleep policy.
Didn't experience that problem, maybe try flashing an older weapon over it (2.8 or 2.7) and see if that works. I had 2.8 but was having a bluetooth problem and 2.7 is working fine for me.

I had this from a battery management app. Uninstall any you have and reset any other wifi related timed management to not managing wifi. See if that helps. If it does, reinstall the battery management app and don't set it to manage wifi. If that doesn' t work, reflash the kernel and rom
Does the aokp rom contain a bug where the data wont be able to work or something?

next time ask in the ROM's Thread.
but as far as i know it does not. im using build 31 and its working fine.
try pulling out the battery for a few seconds then putting it back in and booting up.
Same here...data working fine in aokp.
Forgot to mention that there is an issue with data dropping in ALL 4.04 ROMs, including other phones.

The issue behind this here is that for whatever reason, the APN settings always seem to get lost. Sometimes the actually load properly and boom data. Then perhaps you leave wifi on and then most (at least all of the ICS roms I've used) drop the APN.The APN is what handles the data verification.
EDIT: As of recently, I have discovered that data is working fairly well on AOKP. I just reset the APN under its menu, then rebooted. Make sure you're running the correct RIL; it does help. Besides that, I've found that fix permission sometimes screws with APN recovery. So fix permissions, reset APN, and enjoy data coming back.
I hope you guys can help me out with a problem. Sorry about the long post ahead, I'm just trying to give as most information as possible.
Introduction: I recently installed the latest releases to see how jellybean was coming along on the Desire S. I flashed PACman and then CM10. I liked them a lot, but I usually prefer to wait until a final release, so I reverted my backup of CM7.2. One week later I notice my internet connection is very unstable, I don't know if it's my carrier's fault, or the upgrade messed with something and the backup didn't restore, and reflashing CM10 changes nothing. I didn't notice any problems right away after testing the other roms, but like I said, everything happened around the same time frame.
Problem: First of all, if I enable 3G, it will almost never connect. Sometimes I get a 2G connection, but most of the times there is no internet at all. On 2G only, it seems that a few minutes after screen-off, the connection drops. Only after I wake the device, it realizes the connection was down and resyncs with my google account. And even while awake, 2G is still very unstable, I get numerous network errors on the facebook app timeouts on google play.
Device info: Should I test other radios? I noted that it came from the factory with 3822.10.08.04_M, and was on 20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11_M (I don't remember when that changed, I don't think I've ever explicitly changed a radio). Now I just flashed 3822.10.08.04 back, but it didn't change anything. Could HBOOT also have any influence the problem? I remember I downgraded do 0.98 so I could S-OFF using Revolutionary. Now I'm on 6.98.1002.
Lastly, probably a logcat would help. How should I go about doing it? Reboot phone, wait for it to connect, put it to sleep until it disconnects, wake it up, wait for reconnection, then logcat? Since the problem persists both on CM7.2 and CM10, I decided to stick with 10.0 (nk111's cm-10-20130109)
Thanks a lot in advance!
Here's a logcat I took today, if anyone is willing to investigate. Started recording after gtalk was online, turned off the screen, waited a bit, turned it back on and checked that gtalk was offline.

I'm having similar issues on Pacman 18 and 19.3.
My connections seem stable, but I cannot switch between 2G and 3G without rebooting. If I don't reboot, the phone has no internet connection.
Also, on 3G, battery life is very bad.
I'm wondering if it would help to flash a different radio. I never changed the existing radio.
I installed CM9 on my phone and it seems to be working fine, except few issues. One issue is that when I enable WiFi Hotspot, it fails to start.
When I go in settings, I can provide settings for WiFi Hotspot. After that, when I enable it, I see in notification area that wifi is being disabled, but after that hotspot option becomes enable again, wifi remains enabled and not hotspot is available for my computer to connect to.
I installed a teethering app from Play store and that works, but that creates an adhoc network only. I was able to use wifi teethering with HTC image, before installing CM9.
I have S-ON.
Does anyone else has seen this issue, especially with Cyanogenmod 9 Stable (cm-9.1.0-doubleshot.zip) on this phone
I've been using the CM9.1 + drain fix + USB fix ROM you'll see in the development section since November. I'm on r8, but they're up to r9b now. This is much better than the plain CM9.0 for our device as it fixed a couple of major issues like battery drain and slow USB transfer rates. I used WIFI hotspot and tethering for the first time last Thursday, and it worked first time no problem. No additional apps needed. Got my laptop hooked up to the internet and able to VPN into work network in a moving car (somebody else was driving honest!). Not sure if that helps answer your question directly, but it certainly works in CM9 series ROMs, and if you don't have 9.1 you should go get it1.

Thanks davidf9. I will try CM9.1.
From where I can get drain fix and USB fix?
Couple of other issues, I am seeing are: 1. no keyboard lights for caps lock or Alt buttons. 2. For some reason my barcode/QR reader/Google gogle apps are not able to lock on bar codes and when they snapshot they get scrambled image. Also, some other apps (like 3d compass) having distorted view from camera. Camera app itself working fine.
Have you see any of these issues with CM9.1?
The battery drain and USB drain fixes are built into the ROM by scverhagen, you don't need to separately apply them.
As to your other questions, the caps and alt LEDs don't work for me either I just hadn't noticed! I don't have any problem with my QR code scanner, but I don't use the other things you mention so can't comment.
I installed scverhagen's build cm-9-1-(3-0-53)-r9b.zip (MD5 1c16aafa8d0220d44b5b7ea22e7fb24c) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32192055. I cleared Delvik cache, battery stats cache and cache partitions before installing it.
It fixed camera / QR Code Reader issue, but HotSpot issue is still there.
I did some more research and found some suggestions about "fixing permissions", turning wifi off and rebooting. I tried these and got Hotspot temporarily once, but on next try it failed.
I guess I need to collect logs and see what's going on. Thanks for your help.
You did a factory reset/wipe while in recovery as well didn't you? Several guides around here recommend doing the whole sequence several times over. Look for some of Strapped365's posts.
As I said, the hotspot worked for me first time, no problem. Just what was built into CM, no new apps. Must have been lucky. Sorry can't help further.
I didn't do a Factory Reset this time . I did that for when installing Cyanogenmod ROM, but I didn't had time to reinstall all apps and do all the settings again this time around. May be I will retry on weekend.
Thanks for the great help.
If S-On, you'll always have to fastboot flash boot boot.img thru ADB or your network never will work.
The PROPER way to wipe before a flash is as follows:
1. Wipe dalvik TWICE.
2. Under 'Mounts & Storage' format system.
3. THEN factory reset on the first CWM page.
These are the minimum requirements for a complete wipe.....
Thanks. I didn't do step 3 for this ROM installation. I am thinking of taking a Titanium Backup of all the apps, following your steps and then restoring apps after installation.
I am hoping this will save me from hassle of re-installing all the apps and configuring them.
That it will do. Just be aware that reinstalling them in a different ROM with their data sometimes causes an issue with an app. It will put them all back though....just not on your different pages that you may have them on.
Hello there. First, let me say that I've researched this issue to no end. Searching here, Google, etc... Utilizing all sorts of keyword combinations. I don't think this is something simple/stupid but if it is, I apologize in advance.
I was running a few versions of Team Venom ViperXL up to and including 3.2.6. I seemed to start having this issue with the Viper ROM. (FYI, I do a full wipe on all ROM installs.) Since, I've migrated to CleanROM 6 R2 once it was based on the 3.1.8. I was partially hoping it would fix the issue I'm having, but alas it only slightly changed the issue (for the better).
What is happening:
- WiFi ON, everything working perfectly.
- If I wander out of range (1 mile away, etc) the signal strength of WiFi drops to 1 bar/bubble and never properly disconnects from my network. This also makes the phone refuse to transmit over the AT&T network until I manually turn off WiFi. Turning off WiFi on ViperXL caused the "WiFi" setting line to grey-out and hang on "Turning off" requiring a reboot after which everything works until I again go out of range. On CleanROM, the "turning off" succeeds without hanging, but will not reconnect properly until I either drop into Airplane Mode and back out or reboot the phone.
- (On CleanROM) Turning WiFi back ON will cause it to say "Not in Range" for the home WiFi network even though I'm clearly in-range. Again, the fix for this is either Airplane Mode or a reboot.
If I manually shut off WiFi before leaving the area of my home WiFi network, it will reconnect on manually turning back on without issue. It seems to only lock up when it has to disconnect due to being out of range.
I've also tried installing the Venom WiFi fix patch on both ViperXL and CleanROM, forgetting and re-adding the network, deleting the WiFi config files manually, etc. I'm wondering if this isn't something specific with my router, as it only seems to happen on my home WiFi network. I'm currently running an Asus RT-AC66U. My issue is that I swapped to this router AND changed ROMs right around the same time (hence my confusion on if it's a phone or router issue).
I did find a suggestion of changing the beacon interval of the Asus router, which I will try this evening.
I have seen other reports of portions of the issue I'm having, but not all together like this. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try?
EDIT: I've also tried various WiFi fix apps from the App Store. They usually correct the issue for the time being, only to have it happen again upon leaving the area of WiFi coverage.
Also, I'm running Bulletproof Kernel v1.1 with S-OFF. I just saw that Bulletproof v1.3 has a WiFi fix. I'll be installing that shortly.
If you want to narrow down if it's the phone or the router, the first thing I would do is make a nandroid backup and then RUU. If it's still happening, it's most likely the router or a hardware problem with the phone.
If it's not still happening then you can try that stuff and I would try flashing different radio's too. Out of curiosity what hboot are you on?

Basically factory HBoot 1.14. I've RUU'd to the latest AT&T one (3.1.8?)

yeah I'd check to see if it's still happening after returning the phone to stock via RUU as a first step. This will be the best way to narrow things down.
