The search feature goes up and down like a whore's drawers. Not really a problem - you can just use Google to carry out a site specific search if you need something. That's what I do most of the time anyway as I find it to be more accurate (not just for XDA, for for most web forums out there)
As for "Firing someone" - most of the people on here do this for free and as the site doesn't make as much revenue through click-ads and the like, we have to accept the odd glitch from time-to-time as our mobile-phone life would be much worse without this great resource.

Yes the search via the mobile devices can be a challenge. I my self use browsers and the apps.

How do I find the applications I want?

Hi,
I'm new to HTC, and windows mobile. I'm having great difficulty in finding apps that I want, how do I go about finding them until the XDA marketplace is up and running?
I'm currently after an ebay app if there is one, and also a converter app. Also I've read somewhere that there's an app/cab file that allows any program to be in landscape or portrait, but I can't remember the name. Think it was gyrator or something but I can't find it, any idea?

I can't help you with the ebay app, but you want BsB Tweaks to allow rotation in applications, or try PLToggle (in my sig below).
For the ebay app, I'd recommend searching in the windows apps forum (in general), rather than a phone specific forum.
Hope this helps

Mate, before you do buy things .. search .. search .. search! this community has a lot to offer and there is bound to be a freeware that can do what you are looking for.
Of course when all fails default to buying the app. If you find what you are looking for consider donating to the hardworking developers here.

Hi Snerkler,
Searchng on XDA is not easy (I should know). Use this tool, which should give you a fighting chance...http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all.
Also look here ..http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/
And if you google "windows mobile apps" or "free windows mobile apps" you will be surprised what you can find!
Unfortunately we don't have an app store like that other device; however there are thousands of apps out there.
Just thought of another 2 sites:
Clove....http://www.clove.co.uk/
Handango....http://www.handango.com/homepage/Homepage.jsp?storeId=2218
If you are stuck after all this then do one thing.......send me your phone and pack it all in.
Good luck chap

PS PM me if you need more info but don't want to look stupid on here. However you have been getting loads of help off people here which is good; no one's told you to get lost yet or to RTFW (read the wiki (lol)).
Must be your excellent Karma. Do enjoy exploring the world of Windows Mobile.

There's a nice app store app you can get from http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-opnmarket.html that contains some of the xda initiatives (along with other developers creations). Otherwise just look through the forums for your device.
And of course there's Microsoft's own 'marketplace' app store for which there should be a 'Marketplace' app already installed on your phone (or you can go to
https://marketplace.windowsphone.com/default.aspx if you want to view it in a web browser (note that it doesn't work well if you're using Opera (despite that being on many flagship windows mobile handsets) - nice one Microsoft ).
Ian
Thanks Ian,
just installed Omarket, very impressed with it so far.

[APP IDEA] Forums on your HD2

I thought today about all the forums I use. I use a lot as I am sure most of you do. Most forums tend to be built the same way, threads, reply buttons, quote buttons etc etc.
Would it be possible to create an app whereby a forum was condensed onto your phone? No need to use a web browser and have to constantly zoom in and out and mess around with too much directional scrolling. You see I was using twitter on my HD2 today and I just thought that a forum set out like the twitter boxes with all the individual tweets would be pretty cool. Click on your thread and browse with various text size options etc.
The initial screen of the app would have a box to enter the URL of your desired forum and also a list of saved forums or favourites.
Could this be possible?
Thanks.
i like the idea, sounds really good....not sure if it would work though......
+1 for this.
+1 Me too .. it will be Great tool !!
I thought there was already an XDA app. I know there is one for Android.
Yeah; I too would like to see a WinMo app for this.
glad you all agree, we just need someone to dev it!
There is one, but it doesnt fully work. Ill see if i can find it

[App] ezPDF: The best Android PDF Reader

I was really disappointed with all Android PDF readers & unwilling to sell my iPod touch just for apps like GoodReader! A couple of weeks ago I found this great app called "ezPDF Reader" by accident in market & gave it a try & it's just impressive!
Unlike Repligo, QuickOffice, DocumentsToGo &.... it renders everything really fast, renders huge PDF files without any problems & here's the list of some of it's features:
It's super fast & reliable, not a single FC on documents larger tha 40 MBs!
Renders pages & pictures in a blink! It really shames Adobe Reader & similar apps...
Supports auto zooming feature for all columns & pictures.
Supports Night Mode & text reflow the way it should!
Shows thumbnails of all pages while reading in a very pleasant way!
Gets updated at least once a week! (Have had it for about 2 months)
Developers will actually implement your request, just tweet them or email them & in next version it's there!
You can add bookmarks to your documents.
Fully supports password-protected files.
Supports Wake-Lock.
Supports multi-touch up to 3 fingers.
Plays the multimedia content in PDFs.
Comes with free PDF printer for PC!
Supports Copy/Paste!
Supports pinch to zoom, horizontal lock, remembers your zoom level & position when you navigate.
Great animations!
It's just 0.99$!!!!!
& much more...
I really think developers deserve being supported, it's 5-star-rated in Market but it's been stuck in 1000-5000 downloads range for a very long time! Just give it a try, you'll love it! I just don't want developers abandon it coz there's nothing like it in Android Market! I don't know why it hasn't got enough attention though!
Appbrain Link
If you have already tried it, you can post your idea about it here!
They just released another update today which improves the rendering speed much more! I just hope they release a trial version or something to get more attention! Nobody has used the app here?
I have this on a Nook Color and I can't seem to get the menu to redisplay once the overlay controls minimize. How do you do it?

It is the best one among those pdf reader I have used.
If you search the threads started by me, you realize I was desperately looking for a PDF reader with ezPDF features couple of months ago!
Android Market PDF readers are nothing good compared to this & they all carry price tags like 10$!!!
There's no benefit behind this topic for me, just want to make the project popular so it continues the way it is going now! It's been always updated at least twice a week... If you haven't tried it yet, use the 24 hours refund policy to check it, however I don't think you will ever ask for refund!

I just stumbled upon this app today. I was looking for a reasonably priced reader that had bookmarks so I can resume reading of large docs. This fits it to a "T". All the others I looked at were in the $7-10 price range. The UI is taking some getting used to, I would like to see a help or manual as there are almost too many options.

I still consider it as spam. Simple as that. You don't give a review. You just sum up the things it can do, you give a price and that's it.
And now you are talking about a 24 hours refund policy? Man... this is just spam.
I don't know what to tell you buddy! Whatever you wish to call it, I listed the features I think no other Droid PDF reader has, I can't figure out your problem!! Developers are Korean, I am by the way Iranian/Persian so ...!
It doesn't need a detailed review since there's no competition in PDF readers field on Android Market...! I think it is 5/5 rated!
As for manual, I found it a bit confusing too! Actually developers have an odd way of describing the features & how-to-dos! Read their tweets from following URL, somehow it works as their manual!!!
twitter.com/ezpdf
I have this app also, it really is the best. I was ready to buy BeamReader then I found ezPdf

ADW was developed & advertised hereon XDA. Dialer one was advertised here on XDA. Mort player was both advertised during it's Winmo days & now in Android too.

Spamming your app however is different.

This is not a personal vendetta. I encourage all developers to promote their apps. I have no problem with that. The problem is that I think it's rather inappropriate to promote apps in a forum where developers are discouraged to promote their own paid apps. Isn't really motivating. Don't you see that?
And I didn't have had any problems with any moderator. So no, that isn't my motive also.
And of course I have contacted xda developers, but with a constructive request if it is possible to look for a way how developers can promote their own apps without undermining the philosophy of xda developers.
Btw ADW, dialer one and mort are free programs/apps as far as I know.

[Q] App building software no coding

Hi,
Looking for software to develop an app (preferably offline) which will help someone with no coding experience. I am proficient with photoshop & after effects but I don't know any coding.
I am sure at some point I'll require a pro to write some custom script for me but I want to get as far into the project on my own as possible.
I don't want to be bound by some websites hosting terms, with monthly fees and all this other stuff. Preferably, I'd build my app offline and go from there...I don't honestly trust these websites with little app builders then your app is stuck on their site and you're forced to use their hosting and things like that....if it's my app, it's my app!!! I shouldn't be bound to some website or whatever.
So, preferably offline app builder which someone with no coding experience can use?

I promise you I've searched extensively and yet to find what I'm looking for. AppsGeyser lifts content from the net and turns it into an app...it remains on the appsgeyser site so doesn't really fit with what I'm looking for...I just want simple app creation software without having to learn code because what I'm looking to do isn't super-unique, it's just for an add-on to my existing business.
Has anyone ever used Wix for website creation for example?? Fantastic user interface, couldn't be simpler yet the possibilities are pretty much endless especially since you can add custom coding if you wish but I've built a few sites with Wix, all function great, all look fantastic...just a shame they don't have the same service for app creation.

It's pretty much just a local directory type app mate....that's why I mentioned above that I am really not trying to do anything unique so I'd imagine there's some nice editing software out there somewhere I could utilise and have my app designed and created pretty quick....like the above example of the Wix website,...you could have a fantastic looking website up and running in a couple of hours.
Anything guys?
Still looking for nice easy app production software.

Just sounds like thats way more advanced than I'm looking for dude.
I want build an app to ad onto my local directory business and it really isn't doing anything advanced or unique...it's the content that separates it's from other apps, not it's functionality....an app containing a load of menus with click through links (are these called hyperlinks?) to that section of the directory then linked again to open specific entries within that section of the directory....
Surely, there's a nice easy, almost drag and drop, design software out there I can use?
I'm really put off by these app builders I see that are $50 per month or whatever but if I have to go that way, ok. Thoughts? (Appreciate everyone's input and I know it can be frustrating talking to newbies that really don't have a clue so appreciate the input and patience folks!)

I know enough to know that's simply not true...the reason for the post is that there's loads of drag and drop simple app builders out there that require no coding whatsoever....the point in the question is what is the best one and also the embedded question of why are there monthly charges that have such a huge range?
So, no...no code does not = no app.

Eclipse allows drag and drop bit you're dreaming man. There is no way you can make anything work on android when making an app without knowing some basics of code.
So get that book I told you about, get eclipse, and get the book "hello android" which helped me start out.
Android apps are way more complicated than they seem bro
Monthly charges is because to make app building software is so damn hard. Trust me. Try your hand at old school app development. You will learn to appreciate app makers cause no joke its hard as hell

But question is that why any company offer you free tool that helps you to create app without coding knowledge. So only two option is here May be company offer paid tool for that and i think so no as such paid tool available in the market.
2nd option is company offer you online tool where you can create app without the knowledge of tool, in return companies want you to buy their subscription etc... to use that code.
I used some tools for testing person and some of them give you .apk and .ipa file to test your app on device but do not give you source code of app. You can read more about 4 best app building softwares, but as i mentioned that they do not give you source code.
I hope so above mentioned information helps you.
Please don't forget to thumb up button if it is helpful. Thanks
Not long ago, people / businesses in the UK would have to pay at least £12,000 for the development of a simple website, without administration / hosting / commerce functions, etc.
Now, you can produce professional websites yourself with a little cost and effort. Downloading free templates, Adobe Muse, WebPlus X8, etc.
Adobe have now launched DPS (Digital Publishing Solutions) which will eventually become a standalone, offline solution for people that want the ability to create apps on an offline basis, with a one-off cost (no monthly subscriptions).
Without a doubt, such offline app dev software is in development now, and I cannot wait until it arrives.
For now, I use HTML5 based WYSIWYG solutions which work well in good wifi / 4g connection, but with no App Store listing and no ability to push notify, but I can create these without subscription / cloud based resources.
It suits clients that have a user base that would generally be within good connection areas and require their services in such a place.

[B]Update 20140507 - v1.2.7[/B]
[LIST]
[*]Non-Tapatalk forums can now be added to the app. If you enter a URL that does not work with Tapa, the app will ask if you want to use the forum in a WebView instead.
[*]Added a post preview option to the new posts screen. Also added a select all, and a clear all feature. Find them by pressing the menu button on the new post screen.
[*]Various other bug fixes and layout updates
[/LIST]
[B]Update 20140430 - v1.2.6[/B]
[LIST]
[*]You can now add a direct link on the homescreen to any of your forums. It will behave just like having a stand alone forum app, completely bypassing the forum listing screen. This required the Install Shortcut permission.
[*]Forum elements now have sort of a shaded box theme to them. I think it looks a little nicer, but if people don't like it I can revert back to the old look, or make it optional.
[*]Got rid of the cartoon looking default avatar icon.
[*]Improvements to post link, quote, and other BB code handling.
[*]Forum topics listing now has an infinite scroll (at least until there are no topics left), kind of like the news feeds in Facebook and Twitter apps
[*]The left slideout menu has been rearranged and now contains navigation links such as forum index, subscriptions, unread topics, etc
[*]Added a quick popup tip on how to log in when you enter a forum as a guest
[*]Changed the language on the forum listing screen input box to make it more apparent that a URL is the required input
[*]Forum settings have been moved out of the sliding menu and on to their own screen.

I just tried it and it's a good start. It needs some work like labelling. Right now, it's just a box with the word "Add". Need a tutorial or something to guide the user into what or how to get into a forum. Right now, I had to guess and put the entire web address in the box. The key at the bottom needs a label. Even something as simple as "login" or something. I'm no IT/Tech expert but I can get around and figure stuff out. Not everyone is tech savvy so they need a little guidance.
Need a way to access favorite forums. XDA, for example, is a large forum. People don't like to scroll through every phone or tablet to find their forum.
Hopefully, this helps a little. I don't want to sound critical but these are things you need to know.
Taptalk is the gold standard right now but I like competition so good luck.

THANK YOU this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Forum Fiend v1.2.5.
I've been looking for something to replace Tapatalk, and I've looked at FF a few times. Figuring out how to get a forum loaded was confusing. The only way I figured out how to get on to XDA was happening to see it on the Play Store pictures. Logging in was a bit awkward too. When I saw the key at the top, I figured it was a link to purchase a pro version or something.
Most of all though, the look of it kept me from switching over. It feels dated. From the default cartoon avatars before logging in to a forum and icons, to the font and colors, it just feels a little off, although the action bar looks fine. I also feel like the slide out navigation is sort of wasted on the settings menu and active users, neither of which I use much. They might be better suited for faster navigation, search, showing subscribed forums/topics.
The number 1 reason, though, that I am looking for a Tapatalk replacement is the ability to bypass the forum selection page since I only use XDA. If it could detect that only one forum is present and automatically enter that one when opening the app, that would be legit.
Sorry to seem like I was going on and on. I think it has good potential, and some easy-ish fixes can make a world difference.

Thanks, this is good feedback. I have read other comments in the market also saying the interface looks dated, but I am not entirely sure what a more modern interface looks like. Do you consider the general look and feel of Tapatalk to be a good example of modern, that I can use as a guide to work off of?
As for automatically going to a specific forum, that would certainly be easy to add. I was thinking of letting users place icons for their specific forums on their homescreen, so they could launch each forum just as they would a stand alone app. They would probably be widgets technically, but could look just like a normal app icon.

A holo interface would be nice keeping in time with current Google design and the majority of apps that currently being published.

Can you pleae explain what else is tracked and how?
I appreciate the fact you asked for the voice of community. I guess it's somewhat vital for application's life, if anything else for gaining people's attention. Anyway, first thing I noticed when I installed Forum Fiend (yeah, I installed Forum Fiend now for the first time) was the fact that you need to manually enter forum server's URL. It's not a major PITA, but perhaps it would be nicer if it was done the Tapatalk way. The design is quite up-to-date IMHO, but as Jesellers88 said, default icons are cute, but kind of unprofessional, I'm afraid.
Also, BBCode support is a quite handy feature which Tapatalk does not offer (kudos!), but a full-fledged editor with preview, code and other stuff depending on what each forum allows would be even better, though Tapatalk offers nothing.
To summarize: Forum Fiend is quite a nice application, but above mentioned suggestions (mine and from others in this thread) would bring it to perfection, I suppose. This post was intended to be a constructive critique and in no manner something intended to offend your work. I'm not an application developer or anything alike so this is my two cents .
Seems really interesting. Will certainly keep an eye on this project.
nice work. one issue encountered: app crashes when using "Last Page" function on a 1 page post. probably want to handle that better.

Yes sure, I use Google Analytics to track page views, and also I track an event each time a server connection is made (server URL only, no other information is tracked).
I also send server connection information (again, URL only) to a database at my website, so that in the future I can implement a "most popular" forums section.
I see someone saw my comment.
Thank you thank you thank you. I can't stand the Tapatalk app. You have my thanks and full support!

Thanks for the feedback. A preview mode for the BBCode editor would certainly be easy to accomplish, so I will probably be adding that in there.
The primary reason I do not have a forum listing/browsing option like Tapa, is that I do not have access to Tapa's massive forum database (at least, not that I know of). I agree that it sucks having to manually type in the server address though. To try to somewhat get around this, I have been logging which servers are being accessed from the app (server address only, no personal info), and plan on adding a "most popular servers" list, or some other way to browse. It is the best I can come up with for the time being though :-/ If anybody has suggestions on better ways to implement this though, I am open to any ideas!

Thanks, with time and work I hope to be able to rival or surpass the quality of the official app.

Thanks. The reason I started this project, and the reason I lost faith in Tapatalk, is because I had previously bought their "pro" app. Then they downgraded it to a free app and released another paid pro version. I wanted something that works without getting nickeled and dimed!

I don't mind paying if it works. Tapatalk is awful.
