now when it goes to install android terminal and Root Explorer I get errors because they're already installed, but it still wouldn't root even before i had them installed.
I would love any help on how to root this, or at least a point in the right direction in doing this. I know no one has really had success with rooting the Milano on 2.3.4, but i figured with 4.6 million people Someone surely could help.
Thank you so much in advance.

I just got my phone from Ting a couple weeks ago and rooted it yesterday.
Unfortunately I can't directly post Outside links (Not at 10 posts yet, and have no idea what else to post about other than this at the moment, which requires a link (For Credit Due Purposes) and I know it will be helpful to people that were as desperate as me for something that was starting to seem rather impossible and no one was paying that much attention to it.), but this is important enough that I'll try to just chop it up - You'll just have to put it back together to go to that site.
This works:
androidforums
.com/milano-all-things
-root/709963-no
-pc-root-method
.html
Not sure why the guide says "Enable usb debugging in Settings, Applications, Development" since you never use the PC, I enabled it anyway, and also enabled to install third party apps, or else Poot won't install, not sure why that isn't on the guide. (Maybe they got mixed up?)
A few things you might want to know:
After hours I finally found the solution. But the terminal still doesn't work for uninstalling ("pm uninstall com.google.android.books.apk" = Failure), you have to do everything though your phone (I'm using the app "RootAppDelete"). The phone roots itself with a third party app called "Poot" using libraries from "Ministro 2"
Before doing this you're gonna need something like 25MBs of storage or so (Can delete everything afterwards with the exception of SuperUser (Can't delete that) to get the space back (Also, you need a app to actually use root actions). - The "Ministro 2" packages are huge for this phone's tiny internal storage! 11MB around)
Make sure to install anything small first and anything big right before the phone gets over 15MB full, because at that time you can't install anything else, with low memory errors.
Another thing that might have helped me when I did this is - back when I couldn't root I made all apps default install to the phone with the android sdk platform-tools (I didn't want to risk anything so I moved Poot, Ministro 2 and SuperUser back to the phone before running Poot. since they default installed to the SD)
"adb shell"
"pm SetInstallLocation 2"
Know its been said elsewhere, but this works with the Milano. Wanted to say that in case you needed the space to use Poot.
And the last problem is after I did all this, now my headphone jack wants to think it has headphones plugged in all the time, If I move the phone around it starts playing on the phone's speaker. It seems like something is lose. Not sure if that was caused by the root (since it wasn't doing it before, and I've never used the headphone jack before) or because there was lose hardware, not sure. Still working on a solution to that, which I found
something similar here, almost looks like a common problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817872
I would put my proof of doing this have a screen shot of root checker, but alas its an outside link. Understand though.
And as I've read a million times before this, here's a disclaimer: I'm not responsible and use at your own risk.

I have searched google far and wide, found a few cases of similar issues but haven't found a solution yet. Got my T-mobile g2 /DZ about 2 months ago, love the hardware and the form factor, but I cannot stand stock froyo. First of all:
Phone build/firmware (?) number is: 1.22.531.8
Release keys: cl277427
I initially tried rooting the phone with visionary r14, which gave me a temp root, then rebooted when I tried perm-root. Ever since then, the program hangs when trying to even temp root (I have tried visionary r11,12,13, and 14, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling countless times [not to mention downloading from different sources]).
After a bit of searching, decided to try rage method - again it didnt work (terminal emulator > /data/local/tmp/rage - permission denied) no matter how many times I tried it.
Tried rage method with gfree (both .02 and .04), which is where I had the most success. I managed to get s-off, but still no superuser access. The problem occurs when I enter the code /data/local/tmp/root
described in this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...Subsidy_Unlock.2C_SuperCID.2C_and_Radio_S-OFF where it tells you how to 'lock in' the root.
After entering the '/data/local/tmp/root' code, I get an error message that reads something like:
mkdir failed for /system/xbin/, File exists
cp: can't stat `/system/xbin/busybox': Not a directory
Unable to chmod /system/xbin/busybox: Not a directory
/data/local/tmp/root: /system/xbin/busybox: not found
cp: not found
cp: not found
Unable to chmod /system/bin/su: No such file or directory
I have checked, double-checked, and triple-checked that I have pushed busybox etc correctly, and they definitely write to the folder as I am not getting any error messages in CMD.
I would greatly appreciate anyone who can give me a straight answer as to what to look for (somebody said you can't have a file/folder on SD card called 'su' so I have checked that). This is driving me crazy - I bought the G2 thinking froyo would be so much better than Symbian/Motoblur, but I am really disappointed. Even Launcherpro etc are pretty lame compared to some of the custom roms out there.
Please help me!
Alternatively, seeing as I have s-off, any way to flash a rom without superuser? Sorry for the noob question
s-off and gfree ? i don't have g2 version, only desire z. but you can always flash clockwork recovery from adb fastboot. using that, you can switch to other ROM or backup the current one...

Can you give me a bit more detail? About to try and flash a pre-rooted modaco rom. Will probably have to wipe the phone so if it doesnt work I will try gfree again on the wiped phone

Still needing help on this
I am trying to root a motorola i886. Its a really wierd nextel iDEN PTT phone that is running (i believe) android 2.0 or 2.1 but has no touchscreen...
Basically I have been able to get a root shell (#) from 'adb shell' by pushing some program called psneuter to the phone and running it. Once I had this I could install apps via adb ok, but it seems like whenever I try to run any apps that require root they error saying they do not have root access.
As far as I can tell pretty much every rooting guide for every other phone has you putting 'su' and sometimes 'busybox' into /system/bin and 'Superuser.apk' into /system/app. I did both of these but still got the same errors about apps not having root. I tried a few different versions of these files I found from different sites to no avail. Running su on a terminal emulator on the phone itself would get the error "operation not allowed" or something like that. Then I found some other guide where you just copy 'sh' to 'su' and chmod su to 4755. When I did that I could get to a # prompt on the phone's terminal emulator app by typing 'su' but still got root errors for apps that need root.
I though maybe someone here would know something that I missed. As far as I can tell, I have applied the correct permissions to all these files or have at least tried every combination I can think of to no avail (shouldn't chmod 777 just make everything work?)
Also, does the phone usually come with a stock version of busybox on it? Do you need a specific version of these files for your device or version of android?
When an app on the phone tries to get root access is it just basically trying to run 'su' internally or something like that?
Also forgot to mention I have tried all the one-click-root apps and they do not work for this stupid phone. (well the super one click one was how I figured out how to get the adb shell root but the regular root button doesn't work...)
I can't help with your specific questions, but there is some info about rooting the i1, another iDEN with Android. Although it looks like the i1 is actually Android, and not the Motorola-altered, not-really-Android, proprietary software that the i886 has.

Wow, I can't believe someone found this thread and replied after so long. Thanks, but in the meantime I actually figured out how to root it fully and get root apps to work. I think i just tried different su's and superuser.apk's that I found on the internet until one worked...
Now, if you have figured out how to change the nextel push-to-talk chirp/beep sounds then let me know how you did that. I actually found the .wav files for the PTT sounds in some .apk in /system (phone.apk I think?) but for some reason changing them had no effect on the sound the phone makes when using the push-to-talk feature...
Its been 10 years but do you still have the firmware for this device? I need to flash it, it doesnt finish booting up
I don't have a full ROM .zip file for this phone, only some update .zips. But the first link result for a google search for "motorola admiral stock rom" worked for me for downloading a file.
Wrong phone, sorry.
Sorry but i don't understand. Isn't the Motorola admiral a different device? Does that zip work for the i886? If so, how do I flash it, because the i886 doenst have a recovery mode.
Oh, oops sorry, I was confusing this phone with another one. I looked and I don't have and firmware files for this, sorry.
OK, thanks for replying
Hi guys,
I have recently bought an used AT&T Motorola Atrix 2 off eBay. It came Factory Reset with 2.3.6 firmware installed. When I turned it on I noticed Superuser app was already installed. So that means it was rooted previously. Then I installed RootExplorer Pro to check if root access was working or not. Unexpectedly I got "RootExplorer Pro has been denied Superuser permission". I don't know why I am getting this Superuser permission denied error with all apps that need root access when phone was previously rooted. I can see "su" file in system/xbin/ and system/bin/ and Superuser.apk in system/app/ folders.
When I try to Un-root the device using Click-To-Unroot.bat downloaded from here, then I am getting following message :
Connect your device to begin...

and when I am trying to Root the device again using Click-To-Root.bat then I am getting following message:

Couple things you need to understand.
One: just because super user is installed does not mean you have root access. Anyone can download super user off of the play store. It merely manages root access. You have to have the proper exploit and files in place in xbin.
Two: the moto fail exploit by Dan Rosenberg doesn't necessarily root all phones. And to my understanding does not work on the A2.
Three: according to your signature you own a Mb860. Which is the atrix 4g. Completely different phone than the atrix 2 which is the mb865 or me865 (international).
Please post in the proper forum for help. If you do indeed own a atrix 2 (mb865) then you can read the following thread which lays out how to root the atrix 2 on 2.3.6. Cheers!

Hi, This is indeed Atrix 2 MB865 phone and I do have a Atrix 4G phone too but my this trouble is just for Atrix 2 phone. And I am using exactly same 2.3.6 Root.zip files which are on the link you gave me.
Since I bought this Atrix 2 MB865 phone off eBay and previous owner had root but reset it to factory settings. So the Superuser.apk is still in my app drawer and I can't uninstall it also since its in system / app folder. There is SU file also present in system / xbin and system / bin folders as well. Now when I try to un-root it then it says "Permission Denied" and when I try to root it then it says "Link Fail File Exists"
Isn't there any way to delete SU and Superuser.apk from system folder of the phone?
After 3 weeks I finally accomplished to root this phone. I have put everything and every guide on Dropbox at the moment I am making a ROM for this phone which will be released soon. If anybody can help me out please post reply on this thread. the Rom most likely will be ported from CyrogenMod and you will not have to worry about losing you number I will have the setup wizard so you will be able to retrieve your phone number through the Verizon customer service a may ask if you have an existing number just press 2 and it will bring you to Verizon customer service when they ask just tell them this is a new phone my old cell phone was stolen because If you tell them something like I rooted my phone they may not help you retrieve your number if you need any more help just ask.

HEY THIS IS ANDROID ADMIRER HERE WITH A GUIDE TO ROOT THE ZONE
1. DOWNLOAD THIS ROOT PACKAGE
www.dropbox.com/s/y3w8kk4cdgj5eiy/Root for Optimus Zone.zip
2.extract it to whereever you like
now
4. Connect-up your LG, put it in debug mode. Check in "Devices and Printers" to see if the device installed properly. If it did not (yellow bang) then you will need to right-click, choose the first yellow bang (hardware ID in the properties should match the above), and click "Change Settings" then "Update Driver".
5. If you have to manually update the driver, you may have to go about it the long way. I had to click "Browse my computer..." then "Let me pick from a list..." then "Have disk..." before browsing all the way to the Universal ADB folder, plus I had to click "OK" through several warnings.
6. Once the ADB USB drivers are installed, turn off debugging on your Optimus Zone. Leave the USB connected.
7. Start SuperOneClick 1.7, choose "rageagainstthecage" in the top right, and click "root" on the left.
8. When "Waiting for device" shows up, turn on debugging on the Optimus Zone. Let SuperOneClick do its thing (takes a few minutes)
9. Once everything looks done run the test. Now, disconnect and power cycle your Optimus Zone
10. SuperUser may not work; simply update it from playstore
i hope this helps
Finding the device ID depends on your operating system. If you're in a recent version of Windows, you can just connect the device, then locate the non-working device driver in "Devices & Printers", right-click on it, select "Properties", go the the Hardware tab, select it in the list and click the Properties button, go to the Details tab and choose "Hardware IDs" property. They will appear in the box on that dialog.

Help
Thank you so much for this. I am having a little trouble installing the driver. When I follow your directions, I am told that the file is not compatible with Windows for x64. Any thoughts on what I have done wrong? This is my first attempt at rooting, so please be gentle
I could use help, too
I've got all the files (first rooting of an LG device, or a Verizon phone), but do I need the SDK installed as well? I'm only asking because inside your Universal ADB driver files from your dropbox, I'm not seeing anything that I can click to install. Am I missing something and just being a complete noob? Probably, but any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have just rooted my LG Optimus vs410pp using poot-debug.apk that i found on this site. Had to try over ten times . Had to remove tbe battery after every try. Now I want to try and install a rom. I'm trying to backup my current stock roym using Rom Manager and Flashify and both cause phone to reboot to activation screen as if the ClockWorkMod didn't work. Upon looking at the CWM website the Lg Optimus Zone vs410pp is not supported. So was wondering what you are using to modify the ROM.

My Fix
My fix for it was to download the package at the top and copy "su-v3" and rename the copy to su-v2. Idk how smart this was but it worked xD
Apparently, the su-v2 file was left from the package (although a v1 and v3 were included.) And for some reason, that's the version of su that's supposed to be flashed. I've never used this hack, but you could try renaming the v3 to v2.
Also, by now, there are easier root methods available, such as Framaroot, which probably would also work.
(By the way, there's no reason a one-click installer needs administrator access on the computer. It only needs access to adb, which itself doesn't require admin access. Something's fishy here.)
Can confirm that after several failed attempts, renaming su-v3 to su-v2 worked. Thanks!
Anybody have a rom? Successfully rooted and cwm installed. Now Im in need of a rom
link no longer works. can anyone update?
can confirm none of this works anymore.

How to Root Verizon LG Optimus Zone 3 VS425PP with Kingroot – LG Optimus Zone 3 was released by working with one of the United States operators namely Verizon in January 2016. LG Optimus Zone 3 comes as a smart phone with Lollipop Android platform with quite affordable prices. LG Optimus Zone 3 is affordable for the entry level, but the specifications of the LG Optimus Zone 3 is also quite good. With the interesting specifications of 4G LTE connection, performance is fast enough and quality camera. LG Optimus Zone 3 is available in the United States through Verizon with two price options ie contract and non contract.
Specifications owned by LG Optimus Zone 3 comes with a screen support that is not too broad but also not small ie 4.5 inches. The screen uses a TFT capacitive touchscreen display panel with color depth of up to 16 million colors. Unfortunately the price tag of the LG Optimus Zone 3 is quite affordable still offers a low resolution of 480 x 854 pixels FWVGA combined with TN panel (Twisted newmatic) which is still able to provide clear and sharp display screen with screen density up to 218 ppi per inch screen. In terms of design, LG Optimus Zone 3 comes with a plastic cover support that comes in black. The design is fairly simple with the right dimensions in the hand grip that is 66.5 x 131.8 mm. While for the thickness of the LG Optimus Zone 3 itself is 8.89 mm with a light weight of only 113 grams just so it still feels comfortable when used.

Does anyone have any information on how to root this phone?
It is a tracfone running Android 4.1 with 1ghz qualcomm cpu.
Thanks.
I'm also looking for someone who might have some pointers on how to root this phone or install KitKat apps from Nexus 5 dump!!!
I know it is a low end phone but there are lots of people in the Tracfone world who are now able to get Android phones and are NEW to the smartphone universe.
Thanks.
I'm thinking of buying this phone. As a low end Android, how does it hold up? And if you want to root it, try Bin4ry's root method here. Just be careful.
Tried Bin4ry on ZTE Valet but it failed to root
I've had the phone a couple of days so far and while I'm by no means a qualified reviewer of smartphones, I do like the ZTE Valet. I'm too cheap to pay the $70-100 USD/month for a post-paid service that I don't need.
After searching the forums and seeing that no one reported trying to root the phone, I took a brave pill and tried the Bin4ry method (v31). I got the same message that many users reported - after rebooting, it fails to mount and copy the necessary files. Both the new standard method and the old method failed. It did no apparent harm to the phone - just didn't work. Here's some details on the phone I have:
Android version 4.1.1
Kernel 3.4.0-perf [email protected]
Thanks for any ideas or advice.
I just picked one up at Kmart for $80 today and am checking things out, trying to see about rooting it. My Hisense Sero 7 Pro tab is rooted and running great with a DoPa custom ROM.
I also purchased one of these and am happy so far. I have a question on the magnetic and rotation sensor. They seem to show up as installed as ak8962 devices but apps like 'my android sensors' don't show any data being returned. are they just not actually installed?
thanks

The rotation of the device changes the screen from portrait to landscape and 'maps', 'Gas Buddy' seems to show the right direction for magnetic north. I haven't had much time to check yet. AAMF, I haven't activated or transferred my number to the 'phone' yet as am deciding if is a 'keeper'. So far, I think it is as I can use WiFi and 'turn off' mobile data by option. Now checking things like battery life in standby.. Haven't found an option to shut WiFi when screen is off like in my JB 4.2.1 and HC 3.1 devices. Only seem to be able to turn WiFi on or off or see an option for airplane mode.
I agree - the screen rotates (how - I don't know ) I would assume gas buddy is using GPS to find north.

I'm going to get my hands on the phone soon. I'll proceed to attempt to get a recovery or something compiled for it if I can. First, I'd have to dump the rom and kernel which might require root access, but we will see. Once we have a recovery we can port CyanogenMod over to it.
Also I think I know why it's crashing, but I can't be sure until I can test it out myself.

oooops. Sorry posted in wrong thread.
ZTE Valet Z665c - obtaining temporary root
After trying numerous root methods (Bin4ry, Framaroot, ...), I stumbled on a method of getting temporary root using Cydia Impactor. Cydia Impactor appears to be partially successful. First of all, please note that all credit goes to those involved with Cydia Impactor and the discovery of the original exploits (do a search if you want).
This method might seem a little convoluted, but it works reliably for me. Note that I use a Linux machine so you might have to adapt the steps to work on another platform.
Prerequisites:
1. Menu -> System settings -> Developer options -> USB debugging ->Enabled.
2. Menu -> System settings -> Developer options -> Stay awake ->Enabled (to keep the telnet session from going to sleep).
3. telnet (I am running on Ubuntu, but some sort of telnet program is needed).
4. Cydia Impactor
5. phone is connected to your wifi.
Steps:
1. Run the "Cydia Impactor" to "# drop SuperSU to /system/xbin/su". See what happens.
2. It failed for me giving an error related to not being able to remount /system or not being able to create /system/xbin/su.
3. In Cydia Impactor, run "# start telnetd as system on port 2222". You don't need to bother to telnet in. Just let it finish and then proceed to the next step.
4. In Cydia Impactor, run "# start telnetd as root on port 22". Let it finish.
5. Telnet into your phone from a terminal on your computer: "telnet 192.168.1.117 -l root 22". Note that the ip address is likely different on your network, e.g., 192.168.1.xxx.
6. If everything worked OK, you should be presented with a root prompt ("~ #"). I have busybox (obtained from the Bin4ry exploit download) that I adb pushed to /data/local/tmp. The command "/data/local/tmp/busybox whoami" tells me I am indeed root.
OK - now the bad news for me. I proceed to try to install su but remount fails. If I issue the command:
~ # mount -o rw,remount /system
~ #
A root prompt is returned with no error message suggesting that it successfully remounted /system. Woohoo! But a "mount" command (or cat /proc/mounts) says it is still "ro" or read only. Darn. Does it appear that ZTE has crippled the mount command in some way? Now the question is how to permanently install root? I have poked around and at least was able to make a backup to my sdcard using bzip2
This should at least help as a first step. Others including myself have posted elsewhere on this phone. At this point, I'm not willing to risk flashing anything. I'm a noob so I'm hoping someone who is more familiar with the permissions and that sort of thing can complete the root and post a solution.
Thanks.
Awesome!
These findings are great, I'd be willing to check this out soon. (Linux box is down do to hardware issue. ).
If we can obtain root the remounting issue can definitely be fixed. Also, does busybox have the premissions to run?
Try this:
Code:
mount | grep system
That will give you somewhere within the text the partition that is registered as /system . Then:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount [PARTITION-THAT-COMMAND-RETURNED-HERE-MINUS-BRACKETS] /system
See if that works. But anyways, if it doesn't it can still be rooted! (just temporarily, but it is no longer an 'unrootable' device)
Note: I am not responsible for what happens using those commands.
a little more info in response to your questions
Dear Unkn0wn0ne,
I had messed around with it and also tried something like you suggested, e.g.:
mount -o rw,remount,relatime,data=ordered -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p19 /system
Also tried it with the "-n" option to avoid a write to mtab although I don't remember seeing mtab while purusing the file system.
Hadn't noticed that busybox was available under /system/bin:
~ # ls -al /system/bin/busybox
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root shell 1075144 Jul 19 11:20 /system/bin/busybox
~ #
Could be that it has a more limited command set than the one I put in /data/local/tmp. A lot of the commands under /system/bin have a symbolic link to toolbox.
Note that the telnet connection needs to be made over wifi and not the one available over usb. I got the ip address from my router's client list.
Oh yes - thanks for the reminder. Forgot to include the disclaimer about harming the phone or voiding the warranty.
Hope it works out well for you. Glad to hear your encouraging remarks.
Awesome!
Alright so that didn't work. This guy over here has a suggestion (he has scene your thread): - I can't publish links so I'll pm the link to you.
Also if busybox is symbolically linked you'd have to tell it specifically to call to the busybox pushed over via adb to: /data/local/tmp/busybox and not the stock.
In this case: /data/loocal/tmp/busybox/mount
Also the disclaimer is a must. There will always be that person that tries to blame it on someone else.
Note: I am not responsible for whatever happens using the information provided in this post.

I attempted this myself on my Windows 8 machine. I had to enable telnet, but that was easy. I had to reararange the command to "telnet root 192.168.x.xxx:22" (xxx is my IP). It keeps giving me the error "Connect failed."
Any thoughts out there?
try putty
Ph0enix_216,
I tried to connect from a Windows 7 machine and it works using putty for telnet (www.putty.org, a great program). Be sure to set the Connection->Data->Auto-login name to root.
well the guy in the other thread bricked his it sounds like...
http://androidforums.com/zte-valet/799676-ill-help-find-root-method-if-3.html
They tried to modify the mmcblk0p16 boot image and re-copy it back. It seemed to re-copy but then didn't boot with a verify error.. (I am paraphrasing - and don't really understand what they where doing )
