VRLG7 Unlock - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Using the new VRLG7 baseband which Verizon gave us in the most recent OTA. I have rooted but now I need to unlock the bootloader. I have heard mixed opinions so I want to get one last opinion here. Do you guys use Ez unlock 1.2 for unlocking the VRLG7 or do you use the one in Google play at the moment which is 1.4?

There u go bro this is ez unlock 1.2
The v1.4 isnt confermed yet to be working so to be on the safe side this is the 1.2 version. I uploaded ot to my dropbox

1.4 in the play store works it just doesnt confirm that the loader is locked or unlocked.

Root/unlock after OTA?

Does anyone know if the current root/unlock methods for the VZW S3 still work after applying the latest OTA update?

I'm not sure about root, but I believe the bootloader unlock does. However, I've been reading that the current version of the bootloader unlock tool in the market is screwed up and to use version 1.2.

Yes on both accounts OP.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I can testify they both work. Just make sure you use the 1.2 version of EZ-Unlocker as 1.3 and 1.4 have issues.
Thanks for the replies all,
Mike

[Q] Flash - I think I am missing something

I have rooted my Verizon GS3 and Bootloader Unlocked. I have tried 2 ROMs so I think I must be missing a step or something here....
After I Flash to the JB Rom (CM10 and Liquidsmooth) when the phone reboots, I get the following:
System software not authorized
by Verizon Wireless has been
found on your phone.
Please turn off your phone
and go to the nearest
Verizon Wireless store for help.
after which I use Odin and go back to stock 4.0.4 with Root.
Anyone have any ideas that may help? Couldn't find that on the forums at all.... Thanks in advance.
You're bootloader isn't unlocked. If you're using ez unlock the new market version is not working correctly. I don't have the older version, but if you search its been posted a couple times.

Bootloader, how to tell if it's locked on nonrooted device

Hey guys, just recently had to unroot the S3 due to some minor hardware issues. I flashed the stock Rom and all with mobile Odin and was even able to update with the ota.
Is there a way to check to make sure the bootloader is locked without having to unroot again? Have a feeling I missed a step but just want to be sure.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Of the Samsung screen flashes by very quickly at boot then it means you are unlocked.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
If you did a ota then your bootloader is locked iirc. Which version did you flash with odin? I think the F2 is the only version that doesnt relock but i could be wrong. But as suggested if the samsung logo goes away real quick at boot you are unlocked.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I flashed the rom they had from stockrooms.net, so I'm guessing it was one of the first roms the S3 had. It seems like I'm locked since it did an OTA twice (one I manually allowed then another one automatically) and the Samsung logo doesn't just flash by.
As x714x posted, if you accepted an OTA then your bootloader is locked.

The HD stock build is the only one that wipes everything.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Just unlock again using EZ Unlock 1.2 to be safe. It will not hurt anything to unlock it if it is already unlocked.

Help lol bootloader prob

So how would I know for sure if my bootloader is unlocked can't flash any kernel but ez unlock says its unlocked

When your phone is powered of completely, hold the power and volume down keys at the same time. This will then bring up a white screen with a load of text. Look at the top and if it says 'S-off' then I assume you've unlocked the boot loader. If it says 'S-on' I assume not. But this isn't always the case.
Try it anyway and if this helps please leave a thank you

That is just for HTC devices.
Just reboot your phone and if the first samsung logo when booting up disappears quickly then you have an unlocked biitloader.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
The simplest way to tell is if you reboot your device and if the first splash screen that appears flashes "Samsung" really quick, then you are unlocked. If you are not unlocked it will stay up for a second or two.

You are rooted, yes? If that's not the issue I'm not sure what else it could be.

Yes been rooted can flash ROMs but not kernel
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
What version of ez unlock are you using? Make sure you use version 1.2. The later versions don't work.
Actually they do work as I used 1.4 and the only thing is that it says unknown. Also once it gives you the prompt saying the phone is unlocked you flash a custom recovery to see if you have successfully unlocked the bootloader.

You probably flashed an incompatible kernel. Basically if you flash a kernel meant for ICS it won't work on jelly bean and vice versa.

It has been widely known/reported that 1.4/1.3 are non-functional. I think you are the first person I've seen to claim otherwise. Maybe it works for some? All I know is that 1.4 did not work for me I had to revert to 1.2, and this is the same for everyone else in the ez unlock thread on Rootz.

I'm assuming you downloaded ez-unlock from the market? That's version 1.4, which has been widely reported as non-functional. Uninstall the current app then download version 1.2 from this thread and install it:

That should fix your problem if it doesn't then there is something else wrong.
So I Odin back to stock through the whole root clockwork and unlock I am definitely
Unlocked at this point and I'm sure but no matter what kernel I flash it won't boot I get a crazy pixilated screen that is multicolored which is more than it would do prior to all this but no boot wtf is wrong here any ideas ?? anyone have anything remotely close to this happen to them ??

Post a link to what kernel you're trying to flash. Also, which rom are you on-AOSP OR TW and which Android version is it?
I finally got faux main line v15 to work via a ROM with aroma installer so idk what the hell I was doing wrong but I was wrong somewhere

Jelly 'beans' rom build 19 question

So I tried installing this last week had trouble and got me on the screen that says something like 'this is non Verizon please take to nearest Verizon store' SOMETHING LIKE THAT, sure you'll know what I'm talking about. And I want to try over but I'm not to sure why that happened. I'm THINKING it was because phone wasn't unlocked. But I'm not to sure if it was locked of unlocked. Is there several reasons that message can come up or is there one main cause, that cause being phone wasn't unlocked??

Only reason why you saw this prompt is because the bootloader is still locked. Odin flash a stock image then use Casual to root and unlock or use Invisiblek's guide on Rootzwiki to root and unlock via Odin. What root utility did you use to root?

Well I got it unlocked and rooted, so when I do the wipe and factory reset then flash rom it should all be fine right? The factory reset and wipe won't lock the bootloader?
