Just bought my 10.1 but one big problem :( downloads stuck on play store - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, i turned my back on iphones and ipads and took the plunge and brought a note 10.1 tonight
First impressions is it looks like a quality piece of kit but iv come across one glaring problem
I cant seem to download any apps from the ''play store'' i bought some, filled in my card details etc yet when i click install it just says ''downloading'' and just stays on that
It doesnt seem to download anything
Any ideas why its not working? iv looked for many solutions, ie settings, applications, clear data.....factory resets etc
Nothing seems to work if i can get this working it will be truely awesome!
any help guys?

The only thing I can think of is that there is an update for the Play Store. So maybe in your notification section you might see this and maybe nothing will download until after it has been updated.

I've had this problem occasionally on my smaller galaxy note. When it happens I just reboot and then it works. Worth a try

I had that problem. Edit your router settings and try enabling mac address filter

by reboot do you mean ''reset to factory settings'' ? if so i tried this and it didnt work

i left it downloading a 2mb app earlier and it came up with ''could not be downloaded due to an error. (495)''

ageecee has suggested for you to edit your router settings and try enabling mac address filter.
If you're not sure how to do this try going to a free public WiFi spot such as a coffee shop and see if you can turn the WiFi off and back on on your Galaxy and then see if your apps will download. If they will download from a public area but not from home then it is something in your security settings at home.

will give it a go mate, i know how to edit router srttings but i cant seem to log into my damn router at the mo

If the op said that he added CC details to his Google account, this tells me he can connect fine. Therefore no need to modify router settings or enable Mac address settings. A reboot of the device should fix it.

[Q] Missing YouTube on my new Xoom

I picked up my xoom earlier tonight and have been playing with it but I cant seem to find the YouTube app. It says it is installed when I go in settings, but it doesn't show up in the app list. Am i alone on this one?
thanks!
Make sure you click "All" in apps (upper left corner).
If you're in "My Apps", you won't see YouTube, as well as many other apps that are pre-installed.

Did you buy your Xoom from UK? I bought mine from US and I also don't see featured apps for tablets.
About Youtube, it didn't show up under the apps for me too at first, but when I connected to internet and added a google account it magically appeared. It still shows only 8kb in system settings, so this is normal.

Sorry to go off topic but where did you get your zoom from?
Do a factory reset. This fixed it for several of us.
Settings -> privacy -> factory data reset
Missing YouTube Also
I had to exchange for a new Xoom yesterday. I bought it from Costco and cannot get the YouTube app to download. It shows that it is in my system, but it isn't under the apps.
The YouTube app did work on the original Xoom I had, but I can't get it to work on this one. I'm on my 3rd factory reset.
Side note, my 'Books' don't work either...like EL_G15, it says 'Application is not Installed'
They're not missing. They're corrupted. If you go to manage apps you'll see that they'll show 0kb size. Not sure what else we tried but I know specifically that after I rooted mine the youtube and books app were at 0kb. Factory reset fixed it.
On my Xoom the Youtube app works fine but still shows 0kb under settings menu, so I believe this is normal.
i purchased mine from eBay. Its a US unit that the supplier imported. I've tried 3 factory resets, but still no youtube.
Just to add - I just did a Factory reset on a Xoom that the YouTube app worked properly, now it has the same problem as my new one.

funny thing with my xoom (canadian version from best buy) ... youtube is there, but the market shows it as not installed.
also no sign of books
google books is not available outside US.

error while retrieving information from server. [RPC]

I seem to be having this strange issue with google market.
if I go to my apps, I only (according to play store) 1 app installed which is nit the case. Secondly, play store seems to think I have never purchased an app, eg, I have purchased titanium back up pro, but the store is yet again asking me to buy it at 4.99 where as it would usualy state 'purchased' and download. Secondly on trying to repurchase it states there was an error with the wallet, i then receive 2 emails a charge mail, and a refund message.
when i log in to the the play store on the web, it clearly shows apps that i have purchased in my account history with no price and the word 'purchased' but if I navigate manually, using search, it will state a price and ask me to pay
also i am using the same google account, i only have one.
below is an image of the error
Same problem, after cleaning cache problem disappears with bringing new one, f*&king blank page! No installed apps nor purchased asking me to buy it again. "All apps" tab is empty too. Damn wtf is wrong lol..
what rom are you using buddy?
I have the same problem.
The Google Play Market support could not help yet.
I think it does not matter what ROM on phone, this is a google play bug.
Yea i suppose, but looking on google play, its not under any known issues :/ looks like it may be a while before its fixed.
I contacted the customer support.
They could not solve the problem yet
it seems that the lost connection between Google account and purchased apps.
I sent some screenshots in Google Play support and I hope that the problem will be solved.
I advise you to contact Google Play support: [email protected]
I think if there is a lot of posts about this issue, it will speed up the solution
phew glad to see I"m not the only one. I'm hit with this as well on THREE different androids (one of whom is stock unrooted so its not my fault rofl).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24058132
I have also realized I am not getting application updates. its rare I go 3 days without a single update, maybe its because it thinks I have not purchased any apps lol
Any chances that your phone market local data is not yet synced properly with the google play ? I have seen that my apps (free or paid) is not listed out immediately right after I do a full wipe or flash a new rom with full wipe. But it will eventually show up itself after awhile with data/wifi connections. I personally didn't know how long it required to sync back but eventually they will appear back when I access the market again after I restored my personal data back.
By the way, did you guys try to check your account and performs a manual market sync in the Account settings section ?
yes yes and yes we've tried all the normal market fixes, downgraded market, uninstalled updates etc.
This issue is visible on multiple droids I own (including one unrooted stock) and on web market as well, its definitely server side
I'll check in on this thread too lol. I'm in exactly the same position. No response from google.

It seems not the same problem. This is another google play problem...
This discussion about the problem when the purchased app not in app-list when I trying to download&install app, google play say that the app is not bought.
Google Play thinks I have not purchased any apps.
I noticed that going to play.google.com and trying to install apps that way would give me errors. Trying to view my apps would have a page error. All my apps on my phone are gone, but my tablet has them oddly. Weird!

I have them on my phone and not my tablet! I think it might be related to market version whether or not they disappear device side. Can only assume the newest versions of market/store download the list from the server, rather than locally. Play.google.com doesn't work for me either.

upgraded playstore, now get sign in error msg.

hello. hopefully posted in the right spot, but unsure if anyone has seen this issue... there was an update recently for the play store, so i did an upgrade, and now getting the nagging sign in error for gmail associated with this phone.
entering my pw does nothing. it just comes back almost instantly to reenter pw again.
i did a kill this to see what or where the message was coming from... what it killed was the google services framework, so its not a fake... but... wanted to see if anyone's seen this, and if there's a fix...
i'm on a droid 3 rooted, debloated, and that's all thats been done..
playstore is at 3.5.19 and gsframework is at 2.3.7

your phone is rooted and cleaned (no bloatware) but how did you do that by flashing a custom rom or made by yourself
if made by yourself I suggest to delete playstore directly (use Root Explorer etc) and install from sdcard a new playstore you can find it by Google do not forget to activate "unknown sources" in menu/applications before to install new playstore form sdcard
another solution is to get stock rom and flash it then update playstore in this case all things should go if not there is a compatibility problem -last version of playstore is not compatible with your phone/OS

**UPDATE**
This morning while browsing androidpolice, saw an app i wanted to try out (Google+ Analytics) ... so I tried to do it via the playstore on PC.. guess what? My Droid 3 was delisted from the account. How and why? I scanned the QR code that went directly to the Analytics app on PLaystore on my Droid 3, and installed successfully - it even lists Analytics on the PC view of the play store's "My Orders".
I was comparing the differences between my phone and my wife's Rezound, and I did notice one thing so far.. we both had the Droid Eris, and she had the Rezound now. Her Rezound listed verizon as the carrier, but on my account my Eris was oddly listed as verizon... and my Droid 3 not on the list at all!
Anyways, there's a link there for people who "Don't see your device?" question.. link is: http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1146414 ...
it states they are merging the personal google account with the google app account which may cause issues...
Now, is anyone having this issue at all? Google notes that this falls under a few percentages of users only ;\
mmm i probably won't go that route yet.

after googling a few, and finding more info, it ended up being a sync issue between the google servers - since the phone was registered to an gmail account that was made prior to whatever is being merged at this time, it messed up the sync. the error is gone now, and my phone is now re-listed in the devices list in the play store settings tab.
yay.

[FIX] Google Play download/connection problems

Many people have been asking why Google play either fails to download apps or fails to connect at all, so here's a few things that might fix it!
1) Clear the Cache from Google Play in your settings.
(Settings > Applications > Google Play > Clear cache)
2) Try removing your Google account and re-adding it
3) Seems obvious, but try turning your internet of and on
4) Try rebooting your device
5) restart your internet (Through your main hub)
If non of these work, you may be best contacting Google to get it checked out!
Hope this helps

Also tried everything. Even complete uninstall of the play store through titanium backup and reinstall manually the apk. No luck. Internet working fine, only market is dead. The strangest thing is that it was working well, I did not modify anything, then it stopped working.
Please help
If you've tried everything above, you could try restoring your phone. This would be a pain but if you back everything up first shouldnt be too much of a problem. Or you could just leave it a week or so and see if it starts working . If not, I'd say contact Google.

That's the obvious last solution, but it doesn't really make sense. There must be a reason for the market to be doing this. I also tried manually installing a few different versions of the play store apk, not just the latest one. Still the same results.
I know what you mean. Maybe certain devices can sometimes have trouble accessing the market itself, or maybe its just a temporary thing with the Google servers.

1 more thing.
If you patched any app using lucky patcher, it would have created an odex file in data/app. In order to install it again, you should delete that .odex file.
Sent from my muffin LIFE! Under maintenance.!
I don't recall having used Lucky Patcher. Sadly I will never find out what went wrong. Flashed another rom. It was time for a change anyway
I will try this trick
I think also, if you install a ROM or have a device that does not come pre installed with Google play, that flashing Gapps may be better! Because I've tried manually installing the play store using an apk before. And most of the time it won't downloads apps. Try to flash Gapps as that may solve it. You can get gapps by searching for it followed by your android version on Google ^_^ good luck

I had a similar issue where my rommed kindle fire either couldn't connect or was unable to download apps from the play store. On connecting to the store the device details failed to register at all limiting greatly the available downloads.
Resolved the issue by using a gmail address for logging into the play store. For some reason using email other than gmail caused an issue.
Also removing/hiding unused devices in play store allows you to reconnect devices correctly it seems.

I think the registration process creates (or allows you to create) a gmail address but you can log into play store with the non-gmail address used to register. Unfortunately it seems doing so causes download problems.

Try using it with a gmail address then? Other than what I suggested I'm not sure to be honest. My last solution was to contact Google but they can't give a lot of support to custom ROMs.

I had this same problem with my LG Optimus V, famous for this kind of thing. The first time this happen, I clicked on settings, then Applications, then Manage Applications. Then clicked ALL, then Google Play Store. Then I clicked on Force Stop, then Clear Data, then Clear Cache. Then run Google Play Store and agree to terms. This always worked for me using Froyo 2.2.2 -- When that didn't work, I un-installed the updated Google Play Store and reverting back to the basic one.
Later on this problem happened again, but this time it was when I rooted and flashed a custom ROM. I started getting the error message the file didn't download, but this time it was also telling me the file couldn't download because of low memory. Go figure, Optimus V only have 256 megs of internal ram, but anything below 100 megs gives the the Google error. So just before tossing my phone in the trash I read a post somewhere here on XDA forum that showed step by step how to partition a microSD card and link the second partition as internal memory using an app called Link2SD.
So I tried it on a 16 GB card and after rebooting my phone, it fixed it. Never had the problem again. Plus my Optimus V thinks there is 1GB of internal ram now. Being most phones today have 1GB or more internal ram, there should be no reason for this kind of error.

Regarding the latest Play Store update there's this annoying new feature (I was hoping it was some kind of bug) that stacks any updated apps at the top of the "My Apps" list and I find it really annoying.
Is there any way of clearing them so they go back into the list ? Google Maps is still there from 2 days ago and now I have another stuck up there and it looks untidy.

This may or not help you, but give this a read:
http://www.guidingtech.com/16923/remove-apps-history-google-play-store/
From what I read so far, you need the updated Google Play App v3.9+ it gives you the ability to select which apps to remove from your "My Apps List" Hope this helps.

[Q] RPC:S-3 error retrieving information from server

Hi all,
I am getting "rpc:s-3 error retrieving information from server" on every app when i try to download or update. I have tried clearing the data on play store, download manager, and google services and rebooting but it did not fix it. Has anyone found a fix for this?
I am on the stable release of 10.2 CM from Dec 2 and have the latest gapps.
Thanks
Anyone?
Try going Settings>Accounts>Google> Tap your account> Three dots in the upper right (or press menu button) "Remove Account" ... then readd your account .. then clear Play store cache and data and try it

Thanks! That got it! :good:
No need to remove the Google account on this problem. It suffices to:
Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All
Google Play Store -> Clear data
Google Service Framework -> Clear data
Reboot
Found at http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/59861/error-retrieving-information-from-server-rpc-s-3
Error retrieving information from server. [RPC: S - 3]
I tried all mentioned above , removed account, added back, cleared data & cache, rebooted but still am getting the same error on my Samsung S3
Error retrieving information from server. [RPC: S - 3]
Please help. Thanks much in advance

Same here. I've had this issue for over 2 months now. Google keeps saying it is a "known issue" for some. I have tried absolutely everything possible. Everything. I get it on my GS4 and my Nexus 7. I can not download anything or update anything. This is becoming very very irritating.

This may sound stupid, but changing my Google password and re-signing in on my phone actually made the error go away.
Hope that helps.

Aww that's unfortunate
Ok, here's another idea, have you recently updated "Google Play Services"? It appears that it has been updated on 12/21/13. Perhaps it has the fix?

Hi, do you still have the problem? I got it but it was solved easily. But, while searching the forums for solutions, I stumbled upon one that you may have not tried yet. It is in this link. Tell me if it works.
huhh,
seems I can't post a link. try pasting this in google and the first result is the page I found:
google_play_error_retrieving_information_from
Good luck!

I have tried that solution also. BUT!, About an hr ago it started notifying me that I had updates. Have not seen that in over 2 months. Opened up the play store, and it has mysteriously started working for me on both my devices! Woohoo! Hopefully Google has figured out what when wrong for users like myself and a lot of others and will start pushing out the sync fixes. :highfive:

works perfectly
turn off you internet
go to settings > application > select Google play store and Google play service > clear cache
then turn on the internet .
fixed
I've tried every suggestion out there (including those in this thread) for fixing the RPC:S-3 error and I haven't had any success. All apps install or update successfully except Flipboard, Gmail, Google Play Books and YouTube - they always get the RPC:S-3 error. The only other thing I can remotely think of is the fact that pertinent system apps aren't up to date or their versions aren't fully compatible with each other: Google Play Store 4.4.21, Google Play services 4.0.34 (924341-36) and Google Services Framework 4.3-757479.
Could that be the culprit? If so, how do I fix it? If not, any other ideas?
P.S. - Galaxy S III with Android 4.3
SOLVED!!! Finally! Not sure what the fix was exactly (since I tinkered with just everything in this session) but I think it was removing ALL Google accounts (I had 7 total) and possibly combined with toggling Sync and the clear cache & data trick. Here's everything I did:
Updated Google Play services to 4.1.32 (978161-36)
Updated Play Store to 4.4.22
Turned off Sync
Removed all 7 Google accounts
Cleared cache AND data for Google Play services, Google Play Store and Google Services Framework (I know the Google engineer said not to, but F it!)
Restarted the phone
Cleared cache AND data again for the aforementioned apps/services (I'm paranoid/anal)
Restarted the phone again
Turned Sync back on
Re-added just ONE Google account (my primary one)
Cleared cache and data again (told ya!)
Restarted the phone again
All the apps that were giving me the RPC:S-3 error have successfully updated/installed automatically. What a F'ing experience!
Well, 'til the next RPC:S-3 (or RPC:S-5:AEC-0) fiasco...
This is what i did and it fixed the issue.
Remove google account (all of them)
Un-install updates and cache what not
re-boot device.
Re add the account and don't update or anything yet.
Let your device sit for about 5 mins.
Download a random app from app store( don't update any other app yet)
after it's done downloading different app now you can update your apps
This method worked for me. Try it
