update question - HTC One S

im fairly new to the Android. been on a jailbroken iphone for years but was offered a free upgrade to the htc one s. after getting i saw a video showing off jelly bean. after a couple months of waiting for new gave up and rooted and installed the cyanogenmod 10 nightly. and then the following week tmobile released this new update 4.0.4 and sense 4.1. the cm10 works great and on my phone everything that i use works great..so really my question is should i go thru the trouble of trying to go back to stock to update or is the cm10 jelly bean better? please and thank you

Looking for a "stock" Jelly Bean ROM for S3

My wife has decided that her new phone will be the S3 from Verizon. She's coming from a Droid X2, so this will be a huge upgrade for her.
I personally have a Galaxy Nexus running Bugless Beast. I have done some searching and so far only found SuperNexus. Are there any other "vanilla" Jelly Bean ROMs out there for the S3 like Bugless Beast?
I want to keep it simple and avoid too many modifications if possible. In the end I may just root it and leave it stock for her as I know there are a ton of features built into it that she may like.
Looking for opinions too. Stay stock and wait for Jelly Bean to be approved from Verizon or unlock and ROM right away?
Thanks in advance!

At this point, you should stay stock and wait for Verizon Jelly Bean. For your wife it is better to keep everything stock. With Jelly Bean, the phone is going to be super fast and trouble free vs custom rom (specially when new update arrived, you have to do extra work to get the new update).
I would just wait. If shes coming from a DX2 it doesnt sound like she wants/needs all the mods. Stock is awesome if you want to make minor tweeks you can just root it. Jelly Bean will be over from Verizon early next year.
I put some custom ROMs on my fiances S3 and when I put a TW ROM on she asked what I did as she couldnt tell a difference. Tried a AOSP and she hated it so I ended up putting it back to stock and rooting it for apps like TiBu

Thanks for your suggestion. I may just leave her stock and root it to ensure we can back up data. She's lost data before on her X2 sadly when the flash card died and another time when her original Droid X died and had to be warrantied.
Thanks again.
I would put cleanrom on it for her. It has the stock feel but with a smoother experience.

[Q] Picking up a refurb Xoom (Wifi) - how best to update, unlock, install ROM?

Hi all,
I am receiving a factory refurbished Wifi-only Xoom next week. I am guessing that it will be on 3.0, and I'd like to bring it up to the latest JB and install a custom rom (probably EOS 3 for the moment, then EOS 4 at the next MR).
What's the best procedure for this? Should I take OTA updates up to 4.1.2, then unlock, root and install a ROM? Or should I just unlock, root and flash a ROM from the start, i.e. skipping the OTA updates? Or does it not really matter?
Thanks in advance.

Not really answering your question, just an opinion .....
Why not just leave it on OTA 4.1.2? Unless you have a real need to unlock or some pressing need for 4.2. In my experience the difference between 4.1.2 and 4.2 is insignificant. EOS 3 is conceivably a back step on the OTA updates. Continually updating for updating's sake is fine if that is your hobby (and that is why you are here in these forums), but it might not achieve much. And you could replace a smooth stable 4.1.2 with a buggy and laggy 4.2 - for what?
If there is some app or function you need that requires root or a custom rom then that is a different story.
I am awaiting a refub MZ604 myself so I share you impulse, but I am taking a wait and see approach and giving it some thought.

Hey, thanks a lot for your advice. I wasn't so much counting on jumping ahead to 4.2 just yet, so I'm with you there.
Regarding a 4.1.1 ROM vs the 4.1.2 OTA, I had thought (just based on my personal experience with other Android devices, my Razr in particular) that a nice 4.1.1 ROM like EOS 3 would outperform stock, even a version that is one minor update ahead, since the ROM would (presumably) be optimized, free of bloatware, etc. Perhaps that's not a big issue with the Xoom?
Again, thanks. I'll probably take your advice and see how things go with 4.1.2 OTA for a while.
Interestingly, the refurbished Xoom came with 4.1.2 pre-loaded. I wasn't expecting that. Seems to be running fine.
Mine arrived today. It only took 11 days to cross the world. An MZ604 GED device. Came with 4.04 then promptly updated itself to 4.1.1 then a few minutes later it upgraded itself to 4.1.2. It is pure Android and runs fast and smoothly.
More than happy with this refurb - it looks brand new and 4.1.2 is new enough.

[Q] simple question needing a simple answer.

When android rolls out with 4.3, will users with the galaxy tab 2 10.1 still be supported as far as development with custom ROMs goes? Without making anyone mad here I'm going to ask another way... Will I ever see android 4.3 on a tablet I purchased a little over a month ago? It is keeping me up all night searching for answers and I'm at my ropes end.
Thanks for reading.
P.s I should have sprung the extra hunskie for the note 2 huh?

The custom roms will always be there...if the hardware will allow it we'll get the update here...I've seen many older devices getting jelly bean although they were officialy left on gingerbread or even froyo

Yeah, even the boost zte warp now has a buggy jellybean, and Ly-f1 clones (cheap alwinner tabs) were getting jellybean ROMs very shortly after the source was released, so i agree the prospects look good.

i already have 4.2 based ROMs for my RazrM, and it's still on 4.1.2. If there's an update pushed for the Tab, it will be developed and released in custom ROMs. If the OTA isn't pushed to the Tab, I can almost guarantee there will still be aftermarket ROMs based off 4.3 or 5.0 or whatever comes out next. Truthfully, I don't know why you are losing sleep over this.

Android Jelly Bean - Should I upgrade?

Hi,
its been long since I visited here last time.
I am thinking to buy two Galaxy Alpha phones for my kids. They are 9 and 10. They would be using message apps and some game apps on their phone mainly, apart from as a phone.
Problem is that the Android version is still Jelly bean and there is no way to upgrade to newer version. Yes I could provably do flash roms, but it has been long time since I flashed custom roms and I would not want to do it as it would be my kids.
I know that Google stopped security patch update for Jelly Bean. Is there any drawback apart from it? Would Galaxy Alpha with Jelly Bean be still usable? I am concern about not being able to use message apps and some game apps on Jelly Bean.
Would anyone advice me please?
Cheers,
