[Q] Could a restored backup ROM have issues? - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys, I've been silently stalking these forums for a while, but decided I wanted to be a part of this community myself. Anyway, here's my question:
I recently flashed CM10 onto my new Galaxy S3, and just decided that I like the functions of Touchwiz better than AOSP. No problem, I had made a backup, so I wiped my data and cache (not sure if that was necessary) and flashed back, then rebooted. Again, no issues.
However, I noticed upon flasing back that I had some blank home screens that I didn't used to have. Still no issue, I deleted them. However, my setting menu seems a little laggy when I press the options. As I said, this is a new phone for me so I'm not sure if it's my imagination, and I've never heard of issues with a restored backup happening before. On my old Droid 3, however, I think I noticed my gallery being slower when I flashed back to stock.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to participating here more.

Well, I have ran into that problem before with CWM. I'm not sure if the problem is or CWM. I much default to CWM as it very hard to screw up making CWM backup. I started using TWRP recently but I haven't used it yet to restore a back so I cant tell you if that one works better or just the same.

Do you backup with Rom Manager?
Gesendet von meinem GT-I5510

My bad, I ran ROM manager and flashed CWM Recovery 6.0.1.2.

When you use ADW launcher and do a backup with Rom manager, the phone doesn't shutdown clean, that resets the adw launcher.

I'm not using a launcher, so it's not that. Should I move this to the Galaxy SIII forums? I figured it was just a general problem.

Did you by chance restore Titanium data/apps after you restored the Nandroid? I know one time I went from a Sense ROM to AOSP and restored my apps and app data from Titanium and my phone was going nuts. I reflashed my Nandroid and omitted the titanium restore and all was well.

[Q] LauncherPro Borks Nandroid Restore

I just tried a Nan restore. I had LauncherPro set as default before I ran the backup. After the restore my system booted into LP a lot was missing. I launched Sense and it also was messed up and gave the tip screen you get on initial out of the box startup.
I tried another backup with the same result. I finally used a third backup that was done before I installed LauncherPro and everthing was fine.
Can anyone explain this. Is there anyway to get my later backups back now?

Can you elaborate on what rom, kernel, and what was missing?
Also you should be able to do a backup which will create backup with the current date and time. This is so you can later restore to that point to fix potential errors.
I backed up my stock rom with LP running as default over Sense.
I flashed to Virtuous 3.0.1 with adrynalyne kernel 2.6.32.15
I was missing my custom wallpaper and most home screen icons in LP. When I launched Sense same thing plus it acted like an initial out of the box install by showing me the pinch screen tip, etc.
I'm guessing but it seems that booting into LP on a sense rom caused the problem. As I said I went back to the previous backup, at which time I was also using LP and had the exact same result. When I went back to an even earlier backup, before installin LP, everything went fine.
I mentioned this on another post but then posted it as a new thread since it was off topic there and my post problem was resolved. I am told by another member that what I did is done commonly by others and the problem cannot be with the Nan backups. Can't think of another explanation though. Unlikely to get 2 corrupt nandroid backups, especially considering CW checks the md5.
When others restore to LP default has it been with Sense ROMs?
Just glad I had a lot of backups.

Wow this sounds like dejavu lol exact same thing happened to me too with virtuous rom and launcher pro, I had 2 back-ups that were totally borked with the exact same problems you described, I thought it was only me seeing I was the only one that seemed to have this problem so I didn't report it. I saw my sd card was almost full and just assumed that was it.

Well that's good to know. I'm still thinking it is flashing a Sense ROM and then not booting and loading Sense on initial startup. I don't know enough to know if this is reasonable, I'm just looking at the behavior. I can't think of another explanation.
I wonder if there is any way to get my later backups restored. Maybe something can be manually changed before boot up to put Sense back as default.

[Q] Need help with frozen apps and stock rom

I rooted my g2x and froze a bunch of apps including the stock launcher and the stock keyboard (installed golauncher and swiftkey x beta). Just recently I've been getting the wifi disabled problem even though I've had the phone for almost two months now. So, I decided to factory reset my device to see if that would help. The problem is that the stock keyboard and launcher didn't unfreeze with the reset and I can't re-setup my phone. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Err.. did you do a nandroid backup before? I made the mistake of freezing the launcher before I had reinstalled a different one... bad news... wiped and reflashed and it was fine... you said yours stayed frozen? That is no good... hopefully you have a backup from before stuff was frozen...

You can dload the stock nandroids from the dev section and flash those, they are complete backups of factory rom.
G2X
Thanks! I'll give it a go.

[Q] Application is not installed on your phone

I know there are a lot of questions about this on XDA, but no one seems to give a straight answer on how to fix this or even prevent it.
I flashed kh2 deodexed today via CWM, everything went fine.. I installed titanium backup to restore my apps, which I did, they worked fine until I rebooted the phone. Then the apps dissapeared, and the home screen shortcuts display the SD card icon and they won't open "Application is not installed on your phone".
Then, I did a wipe to data and cache partitions, but this time I restored apps only (without data) one by one, as I needed. Not as a batch, as I did last time, and was working ok. Though, I thought I'd try the ICBINB kh2 ROM, so I flashed it fine. Restored apps through titanium backup, this time one by one, mostly apps only (some of them w/ data) and was working fine, but suddenly the apps dissapeared again.
I'm about to wipe the phone to fix this... but, is there a way to prevent this from happening again?
Is restoring data from titanium causing this?
Well there has been many direct answers on this topic. Factory reset. restore from cwm, not TB.

hey, didn't know that. **presses thanks button**
I just restored apps via cwm, fixed permissions and it's working. It even got my settings back.. wtf. I was living under a rock all this time.
But is it completely safe? I guess that for GB builds, doing backups and restoring this way may be harmless, but probably not the same story if coming from a froyo rom.
Anyway, thanks a lot.
yea, what i did was flash both 2.2.1 and 2.3+ fresh. then backup each and whatever rom you go to, flash the corresponding backup.

[Q] Strange problem with Embryo

I recently flashed Embryo from SKY ICS and love it, but I had a weird issue come up.
I think it went back to the old dialer/keypad (the SKY one) when I restored data with titanium backup.
I just want the new keypad back and I can't figure out how to do it.
I reflashed after wiping all caches and everything works perfectly (as it did the first time) except I've never been able to see the new dialer again.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I've looked for a while on here for someone else having this so as to try not to ask a stupid question, but here I am anyway.
SKY was the first time I ever did anything to my phone, so I might be overlooking something due to inexperience, but I've combed through every option I can think of.

If your using tibu to restore apk files etc you have you gotta remember is that if you were on sky or any other rom you are restoring the app data from, that rom. To your new build.. The only time I use restore data/app content I'm tibu. Is if I know it's for from. The Rom I'm gonna flash

[Q] Restored backup - phone slower

Hey guys, I posted this in the general forums but didn't get much help, so I'll throw it here, in case it's a phone-specific problem.
Using ROM manager, I flashed CWM Recovery and made a backup. I wiped data and cache, flashed CM10, messed around and decided that I liked Touchwiz better. So I wiped my data and cache (not sure if that was necessary but I guess it couldn't hurt) and restored my ROM. the first thing I noticed was that my blank home screens that I deleted were back. No huge deal, I just got rid of them (but shouldn't a backup keep all my settings?)
The next thing I noticed was some lag when I press buttons in the settings menu. Now, the phone was still very new to me before I flashed CM10 so maybe that's just my mind playing tricks on me, but on my old Droid 3 after flashing back to recovery I remember my gallery loading noticeably slower.
Has anyone else encountered this problem before? And sorry if I broke any rules about posting twice/if this is the wrong section, I looked around but didn't find anything. Thanks in advance!
Might need time to settle in? Placebo?
try clean wipe and then restore i also encountered a problem when restoring as it didnt restore my sd-ext
If you use Titanium Backup, then backing up and restoring your apps on a clean install may result in better performance.
It's trying to collect all the previous data. I had the same issue. I had to wipe data to make it faster again.. good luck.
