first flash and TiBu - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm stock rooted with an unlocked bootloader. I have been a flash addict to my fascinate and my DINC2, but haven't flashed any ROMS on my GS3 yet. I have a lot of stuff downloaded and many pictures taken. My question is if I use Titanium Backup for all my apps, do a nandroid and flash CleanRom2.5, when I restore apps with Titanium, should I be able to restore apps AND data, since I'm going TW rom to TW rom?
I have a lot of information I don't want to lose, which is why it's taken me this long to think about flashing a custom rom.
Side Note, can I get stock rom to save everything to the SD card? It saves a lot of stuff on the internal memory.
My facebook widget is not updating since the last FB update...anyone else?

Yes you can. It's a good idea to tick the migrate data option in preferences before restoring (let's titanium know it's a different rom/device). If something hangs when restoring for longer than 5 min, stop restore and freeze whatever was hanging and do it again.
You can change the storage location in preferences, however if you already made a backup on internal you'll need to move the folder first with a file explorer to your sd. Then in ti preferences change storage location to that exact folder.

[Q] App backup

So, the best way to backup apps before installing the Froyo update to a previously non-rooted Mesmerize?
App-Brain? I understand that won't necessarily save any data associated with the apps...
I used Titantium for my phone which was running Superclean ROM, with the Voodoo kernel, but now my wife (who didn't want me playing with her phone previously) wants to update to Froyo...
titanium is the best way to do it and preserve the user data.
however, if she really doesn't want her phone rooted (even though the froyo update will void the warranty, and is pre-rooted anyway ) you're stuck using appbrain.
i personally used titanium to back up all my apps and system data, and it worked great.

I used titanium backup, the free version will suffice for backups. You will have to make the backups on your phone, then reinstall Titanium Backup once you boot into froyo, in order to restore your backups again.

+1 I would get the premium mostly cause you will always use this app. Also, I have a spare sd card, and I make a mirror of the internal sd by just select all> copy> paste into external sd card. Then you have a mirror of what is on the internal card.
I used My Backup when I rooted my phone, saved it to sd, and it worked quite nice. Saved all my messages and was easy to restore. Had the option of saving data and app or just one or the other.

Nearly stock rooted 2.3.3

Is there a ROM out there with root, clockwork, etc etc already installed that wont completely wipe my SD card? I am tired of loosing EVERYTHING on my SD card each time I have to do simple tasks on this phone.
I am on a rooted 2.3.1 and loving it but I would like to try out another rom. Most of the roms out there now are for 2.3.2 or 2.3.3 only but to upgrade and loose root means to have to wipe my sd card again to unlock my bootloader hence my question
As far as I am aware, when you unlock the bootloader or flash a new ROM, it shouldn't be wiping your SD card (/sdcard).. However, when you flash a new rom, its highly recommended to wipe the Data & Cache. Though doing this DOES wipe your settings etc..
Since you already have root, you could simply download Titanium backup to backup all your settings/apps/data (there are plenty of guides for this..), then flash the new ROM, and restore everything with Titanium Backup again. The process is very simple and doesn't take long at all..
Also, most ROMs that are in these threads should already be rooted and contain superuser, busybox, etc..
The closest to stock that I've seen is here. There are four flavors and two of them are already rooted..Though I think this ROM is no longer going to be updated.
The current ROM I use is NSCollab and I would highly recommend it..It already is rooted and contains tweaks and a few apps like ROM Manager etc..
Actually when you unlock the bootloader it does delete your SD card, yes that includes your titanium backup folder ie you loose that too.
Wiping settings etc is no big deal, but wiping all my music, photos, titanium backups etcetera etc is what I am concerned about. I lost all the when I rooted initially

TI can sync to a dropbox account. As for the Contents of the SD card. Back those up before changing ROM's. My understanding is that it's the bootloader unlock that wipes the works (I did mine the day i got it, so it was already virgin)
Most of the third party roms offer upgrade paths without wiping, CM7 for example, you can keep updating and rarely do you have to re-install a thing.
but once you unlock the bootloader, you should never again have to wipe your sd card. at that point, any time you change a ROM, the sd card remains in tact and is not wiped. so you only lose data the "first" time you root. then from that point forward, you change ROMs at will and lose nothing etc.
If you can't use dropbox, you could simply backup with titanium and copy the contents from the sdcard to your computer, then unlock the bootloader..

[Q] Native Apps

I had some native apps get deleted in the process of trying to convert them to user apps and move them to sd card (stupid I know!). Titanium backup hung up during the process and when it closed it apparently didn't finish and so the apps just went away. And I thought I had backed everything beforehand but apparently not.
They were the text messaging, photo gallery and calculator. Is there a way to reload just these three to the phone? It is rooted and I am still running the stock setup but need to get these loaded again (and frozen like I had them).
There are stock nandroid backups in the dev section.
Seeing as the stock Nandroid backups are a real pain to use, you might just want to check out a stock-ish ROM instead... like b_randon14's. The complete and "stock" ones should have all the apps the way they came originally.
...Although how you return some of the stockier apps without just flashing a darn system ROM could be difficult...
Do a nandoid backup
Flash a stock ROM
grab the apk files from /system/app and copy them to your SD card
restore your backup
Pop the missing apk's in /system/app
I keep a local copy of all the stock apk's on my PC, it's helped having them a few times

Issues with Titanium Backup

I have taken a backup of all my apps and data on Revolver ROM using TB, saved it on my MicroSD. Flashed Megatron , installed TB and tried restoring the apps but TB still doesn't pick them up.
I did point to the right backup folder in Preferences, but still to no avail. Flashed back Revolver and tried restoring again, but same issues. Copied the TB backup folder from the MicroSD to the TF internal SD, changed the backup folder location again in Preferences, but still TB doesn't pick up the apps and restore them.
Anyone else facing the same issues ? Need help here. Thanks
Maybe the rom you were coming from stored the apks differently like odexed or some nonsense and now megatron can't see them? Idk I'd wish I could help... bumb to find the answer

[Q] About to install CyanogenMod on my S3, what files do I backup?

So I've rooted my phone, and I would like to install CyanogenMod as my ROM, as I hear it's great. I have TitaniumBackup, and I am using a youtube video called "How To Install STABLE CyanogenMod 10 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on the Samsung Galaxy S3 / III" as a guide. He says not to backup system data, just apps you want. If I wanted to save my texts, pictures, and videos, what would I do for that? I know that Contacts are saved with your email address, as I have read. I could care less about my apps, but what option do I choose on TitaniumBackup in order to save what I said? Thanks for helping a noob out.
I personally just install then wipe data/cache and do a factory reset, then just let Google Services resynchronize my apps upon login.

Also, as far as pics go, I sync those to the cloud, or on my external sdcard. When you install CM, it doesn't touch the contents of your external card, so you should be good there. As far as sms goes, I know TiBu can do it, but I don't us it, so I wouldn't know how to go about it.

You don't need to backup your photos and videos BUT I will say if you have anything on your internal storage (say photos or videos) then you want to move that to your external sdcard, flash CM, then move them back to internal. JB 4.2 and 4.3 have a /0 folder and your internal storage per Samsung's Touchwiz UI gets changed when moving to AOSP for the first time. Texts can be backed up in Titanium Backup, just set the filter for "System" and "not backed up", then scroll to "Messages (sms and mms)" which should be yellow and backup that file too. Titanium Backup defaults all backups to internal storage so you may want to copy this to your external sdcard as well. Lastly, backup your IMEI. When you flash CM, if you have any issues AFTER restoring your app data and texts, start over without that restored data and you'll likely know what your culprit is. So, wipe data and format system, flash CM or CM nightly, flash gapps, boot into rom, enjoy.

This has been very helpful, but I just have a question or two. If I make a backup of an app like Gallery, or Messaging, will it save all the texts, photos, or anything internal like that? Also, is there a way to just move these files from my internal to external SD card, without having to connect to a computer? I'm not sure whether to move the TitaniumBackup files from my phone to PC, because it looks like it's missing a few things. Is there a built-in option I can use instead?

No it won't save that data and those are System apps which you do not backup. Basically, only backup apps that you downloaded from the Play Store.
Yea, you can use a file browser such as Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, Holo Explorer, to name a few, to move files just like you would on a laptop. For Titanium Backup (TB.), you would move just the TB folder after you've performed a backup via TB.

I know this isn't exactly what you are talking about but make sure to use a backup from recovery mode. Just in case you didn't move the necessary files or forgot something you and restore your phone to it's original state. I haven't seen the video but it is the menu that comes up after you hold down the power button, home button and the volume up button.
