[Help!?] Search bar in recents turned into a circle icon.

As you can see from the screenshot. Instead of having a search bar I'm stuck with this google circle icon on the top. Does anyone know how I can get the search bar back?
The bar was never there to begin with and yes I've done a clean flash. I've tried giving all the permission rights to the Google search app but it didn't work.
Rom: Temasek Caf ( latest, has happened to me in pretty much every version since the beginning of December.
Kernel: stock
Twrp: 2.8.6.0.0
Gapps: I've tried Opengapps micro, Banks and slim zero. The problem occurs no matter which gapps I use.
No additional mods.
Clean flash: wipe cache, dalvik cache, data and system.
Has this happened to anyone before? And how did you manage to solve it? Does anyone have any ideas that I can try, to solve this? All ideas are much appreciated!

Click to collapse
Try this
Go to Settings
Click on Search Button
Search for "search bar"
You'll see result as Show search bar in recents menu
Disable that switch

That takes away the icon but i would actually like to have the search bar there not disable it. Have tried to disable and enable and it's only the circle icon that shows and not the search bar. I'm clueless.
@katinatez this issue happens to me on your build too. On first boot the status bar in recent shows as a bar. Then I get prompted to update Google search from playstore. Once it's updated the bar turns into a circle icon. A reboot won't fix it. Do you by any chance know what's goning on? Here's a screenshot from your latest build 3.9.
