All of the articles I've read about Sense 4.1 say that the 3D effects have been removed from the launcher, however everything looks the same to me as it did before the update.
This is what I noticed:
- faster throughout, a bit smoother as well, especially for sense stuff
- more free RAM
- wifi strength has definitely improved as well as the speeds slightly (can't test just how much stronger the signal is, as it is raining outside and that is the only time when my wifi is the weakest i.e. 1-2 bars )
- signal strength with "GSM only" connection has improved, getting full bars most of the time now (although it still goes back to 3 or so every now and then and is why there is virtually no difference in the screens below), however, it has vastly improved when I have a "WCDMA only" connection as you can see
- data speeds aren't much better although the upload is higher and the ping is a bit better
- browsing seems much quicker
- sense browser has an updated UI, which is much nicer and more functional, the double tap to zoom in renders the page a lot quicker
- as we all know, the 3 dot menu button tweak
- EA games, where we can get dead space for free (looks great and works very well on the S)
- I think multi-tasking is a bit better as well
- auto focus
- front camera quality is better

i also noticed the more free ram, very nice. Not sure on the signal yet as I have not fully test it. The 3 dot button is neat.

Where and how can one get dead space for free? I updated today and google play says it is not compatible with my device.

After you update, there should be an "EA games" app in your app drawer and when you click on it, you get the following:
Just click on the game and it starts downloading and then installs and after that, launch it from the app drawer and the required files (about 150MB IIRC) will then download.
Huh, I didn't get that. I am on t mobile USA.
DeadSpace for Free on the Tmobile USA version?
Hmm, not sure why it isn't showing up for you
Maybe only for international one s devices? Mine is UK sim free.

I'm curious too.
okay, i did a quick signal test and I think the signal attenuation and strength seemed to have improved as previously, it will drop signal when I am in the elevator but now it will still retain the signal with 1 bar.
also, noticed that the battery life seemed to have improved as well.

found this vid on youtube. you must be rooted to install set CPU, but its worth it. i'm goign to be testing my gains today since i can see big gains being made while the phone is in standby mode especially.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt3H75qnupA
what other tips do you guys have?
can you do this with the captivate? what are the overclock speeds?
I installed set cpu on my captivate and it has dramatically increased my battery time
i thought set cpu was crashing captivates? how's it been going for you guys?
I've got it on mine and it hasn't crashed. I will note however, that if you go too low for the Max speed, this phone will come to a crawl. I had mine set at 400/200 for battery <20%, and it had trouble coming out of the lock screen. Did some tweaking but my batter is almost dead anyways, so I will have to comment on it tomorrow.
I'm debating if I want to get JuiceDefender or not. It's a good program, but the "turn off data" for 15 mins is what's getting me. I text and Google Talk alot, so I may just download the program and use it while I'm at work, then disable it when I get home.
i thought this was a waste since the phone will go down to 100mhz on its own to conserve power?
it will but when you are using it, it can climb up to 1000 wasting power. Nothing on the android should really require that much horsepower atm
a simple approach i started using on an earlier smartphone, was a wallpaper that was predominantly black - considering the display is the predominant battery drain
i've been using this one, just enough going on to be visually intriguing but not take a lot of juice - whenever i look around for wallpapers, i keep coming back to this one - once i've seen a new wallpaper for a day or so, i've bored of it. Plus my flip clock widget, i set it with transparent background and transparent digit plates, to minimize the white display
i've posted the full size image in case anyone wants to copy
the other nice part, for me, the widgets are easy to discern

+1 to this post.
Very good approach to conserving power, since, according to the phone itself, the display usually takes up a high percentage of its battery life. This wallpaper is also really good, because not only is it predominantly black, but the main color is red, which drains the least amount of life of all colors.
Think I might try that once I get my brick working or trade it in for a new one...

So when i try and use SetCPU (which is supposedly the most effective power saver) I get around 500 mhz... That being said, I wasn't using the new 2.0.1 version. Is there support for Captivates in newer versions? I need help with this >.< My battery isn't lasting nearly long enough for me, and I really want to get close to 25 hours with heavy usage on my captivate (or close to) as Carlos suggested in his video.
Thanks.

There is a thread about sense 4.1 and android 4.0.4 update.
Anyway, you should update, trust me. It's a major update (not 4.0.4 but sense 4.1) and it's really worth it.

Thanks for the replies and for the recommendation.
What did you like about the upgrade?

Snappier, better interface in browser, fixed the focus issues in videocamera, and most important fixed the multitasking bug.
For me the best part of the update is, that the notification bug is gone. Before my phone didn´t receive mails and whatsapp messages while in standby. Now it works perfectly and it´s faster too :good:

the HOME BUTTON ISSUE for quite some users.

I had encountered the home button issue while on vacation.. before upgrading. Educated guess is that is a hardware interference issue, not software. Even if it is affected by software, I haven't had a single issue with anything since upgrading, and I am on euro version on US AT&T in a small city (i have zero bars right now at work dur to bad weather) and have yet to encounter the home button issue again.

Sorry, never use wifi calling so can't comment, although I think someone else mentioned that it was fixed in another thread here, not 100% sure....
I know this topic has been beaten into the ground but I think my problem may be slightly different. Within seconds I get a whole bunch of satellites in view between 22 and 34 SNR but I NEVER get a lock, I can leave it for half an hour and nothing happens.
I know the hardware works because it worked (badly) when I was running Froyo Audiophile. I just flashed Valhalla Black FB Edition and I get the satellites beautifully fast (way better than before) but it just won't lock. I've tried:

A bunch of sites giving different setting configs.
GPS Aids (Paid) w/ it's own GPS Doctor
GPS Doctor (Paid)
One thing I did notice is that in GPS Aids it won't do XTRA data, just LTO, and it's own GPS Doctor couldn't fix it. Another thing I noticed is that in GPS Test, it won't show the satellites on the map, it shows them on top of each other above the map (in the SNR scale box). Below I have a picture and video of this happening.

I've been manually copying the files in, and ya I copied them in again after trying all the fixes. I read through the notes thoroughly now, tried the cache wiping, battery out, etc...
Currently I'm trying out a whole bunch of different versions of the file(s), and then I'll try flashing a different ROM. Is there one you can recommend? This is the list I'm going off:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/List_of_ROMs
I'm not sure if I should switch back to Froyo or not, and the only stock Gingerbread one I see doesn't seem to be deodexed.
Thanks for the response.
Alright, well after flashing back to stock gingerbread then stock froyo I got it back to its slow self. Then flashed back up to valhalla and working but slow. Added in google 3.1 no ssl and hasn't done too much, but at least I have GPS again and I can go through all the notes and see if I can get it working a bit faster. At this point it still waited for 9 connections (5-10 minutes) to lock 4 of them.

If stock and/or stock plus this patch cannot resolve your problem, I would venture a guess that you have a weak GPS receiver.
Several of us have gotten the Android Q/10 update on our devices.
A quick review would be greatly appreciated from the ones on Android 10.
Please kindly touch on these topics
1. Battery, Screen on Time and Standby.
2. Performance (Launch speed, Ram management, general smoothness of scrolling on menus etc)
3. Camera
4. Any new features. Or redacted features eg. The Screen recorder has disappeared.
5. Benchmarks. Did Samsung sneakily throttle the SOC even more or does it have improved perfomance?
6. Do Goodlock plugins still work? What about the other plugins (Game performance plugins etc)
PS
Miscellaneous
The A20 was never the fastest phone of its price in my opinion. It struggles in some scenarios that cheaper phones wouldn't. I would like to know if this behaviour has changed on Android 10.
eg
1. The share function. It normally takes several seconds to come up. How is it on Android 10?
2. Going to recent apps from a landscape app/game? It usually lags and takes several seconds to figure out what orientation it should be. Did they fix this?
3. Does the Settings app and several other system apps take forever to launch when you compare the launch speeds to similarly priced or even cheaper phones?
4.What about the scrolling experience in between menus? Is it still a laggy mess? The "apps" section especially on the Settings app runs at 2 frames per second! And the device care section too.
5. Auto rotation. It was never instant. It is always a laggy mess on my A20. Go to youtube while your auto rotation is turned on. Turn your phone to Landscape. Does it go to Full screen immediately or does it lag and stutter then do it like on Android 9?
6. OpenGL is crap on Android 9. Is it better on 10? What about Vulkan?
7. What about game load times? I am usually the last to load into game arenas on my A20. Be it Mobile Legends, the newly released Area F2, Call Of Duty mobile, Arena of Valor etc. I am always the last, several seconds after everybody has. Have they fixed this?
Thanks y'all
Happy reviewing
It will really help.

Good thread,
feedback soon:
Firstly the upgrade has enabled me to backup and restore. I lost this ability when I can upgrade to pie U4. This is well worth the effort of upgrading.
Secondly, I can now run Ultimate Q and an overclocked kernel from Minh.
I'm currently running stock Q with Minh kernel.
To do a proper review you would need to have 2 phones side by side: one running stock pie and the other with stock Q.
I'll go back to stock kernel and do my best to strain my 65 year old brain to remember what stock pie was like.
I can also run some benchmarks.
for me i get the official android Q flashing it with odin and i notice the following:
#the battery draining so fast.
#the performance is good but its cause battery draining.
#the camera in android Pie have much options. in pro mod.and the colors much real in Q.
#some new option in sharing and one handmod keyboard and alarm. sounds..the screen recording can be add as it in pie.iam using the same apps in Q and its works.screen show battery will charging.
#the performance is better but its laggy some time and the battery draining fast... i have made some tweaks in vendor build.prop file and still testing..till now i have a good performance and good battery life after many test.but still testing more.i created a topic for stock pie rom in the same tweaks from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ance-build-prop-v1-0-stock-rom-t4073303/page2
- Overall feel it's the same
- New gesture navigation is good
- No screen recording is definitely bad since nice shot is not working anymore
- the privacy features are a plus
- the ui is overall more consistent
- stock apps are mostly the same with a few minor tweaks here and there
- the fingerprint sensor is faster
- i can't say anything about gaming performance since i don't play any graphic intensive game
- battery is still kind of the same
I am currently using a205f with stock q
Stock debloated Rom
Minhker kernel

my mom is still on stock as she still has the phone on warranty. the main reason i would look to upgrade her is because the call recording seems to be slightly more open on Q, so is q atleast better on stock?
when will Android 11 update will be available to N9860
it is taking to long to receive it
any one know why ?
No clue....I'm still waiting being on Nov 1 patch!!
My S20 FE (Exynos) already received it month ago, while the Snapdragon version of the same still hasn't received it.
I'm beginning to think Exynos is getting a lot of early love.

It is available, but only for China right now but it's the same model. I think really close for Hong Kong.
It's available on chc csc, but if you use Google dialer ussd codes, android 11 stops them from working so now I can't enable wwd csc. I'm going up downgrade to 10. I lost 5g and many features. Do not like it

I updated on the 4th of February but so far the battery usage appears to be similar although it's early days.
The only hiccup so far for me is the amount of apps in the folder that shows on one page i.e 3x4 now, but that's no deal breaker.
Sorry but I do not use Goodlock or any of the plug ins.
The finger print scanner appears faster and more accurate.
I like the way I can tap on the date and time on my lockscreen which now then shows my calendar , music and weather.
All early days.

Have you noticed any detoriation is call quality, signal, wifi performance, sound output and music playback.
Any changes on charging timings etc.
The volume control bar has changed to test tube like design. What's your input on that?

Call quality is the same.
I mainly use mobile data but WiFi is strong.
Network signal is the same.
I turn my phone off at night and charge then so I'm not sure on charging times.
I use Spotify Premium coupled with Samsung Buds Live and the quality remains very good although I'm no audiophile in any sense of the word.
The new volume bar reminds me a little bit of iOS !

Thank you for your feedback.
Lets see when would I get it in Pakistan
Few bugs for me
- Night mode shots take WAY longer to process
- Camera apparently taking brighter pics than before , I have to always reduce brightness slider for faces
- Gallery straight from GCAM crashes, very slow to load when you delete pics
- Goodlock Multistar, Clockface, Pantastic and Quickstar working with their updated versions
- Battery life almost same
I decided to do factory reset since I'm noticing fps drops in games.
Wow, there is a huge difference now. The phone is literally flying and the games just runs perfect for me now.
I really recommend it if you notice performance drops.
