During sleep mode or the screen off I have a 54mA drain this is too far from my Android ROM HD2 it only has 3-6mA drain. I have the latest firmware 3.32, AOSP nonsense. I worried this drain to much even with cpu underclocked to 916Mhz, Minimal Rom.
I used Battery Monitor with graphical history.
Just my own experience, but I haven't really heard of a sensation owner getting 3-5 mA battery drain. The lowest mine generally gets is in the 40s and 50s. I'm more than willing to be corrected on this however, if other sensation owners are getting significantly lower battery drain then I am definitely interested to hear about it
When my sensation was still stock it wouldn't even get below triple figures and the battery life was woeful. Since rooting and so forth I'm seeing the 40-50 mA I mentioned before. With moderate use I'd get about 36 hrs out of a charge.
Maybe have a read of this if you want to look into it? It is a Desire thread, but that makes no difference to the process being used.
Ignore the reported mA values, the battery driver doesn't report them so your widget/app has to interpret what it can best guess. Even the percentage remaining is only an approximate value. Standby times will vary depending on how much time the phone is awake but after going from 100% to 10% you should get around 5hrs 'screen time on' with a senseless ROM and stock battery - 3 or 4hrs with a sense ROM. If you are getting less than this you may have a signal issue or a rogue app, otherwise don't worry about the mA values.
I came from the HD2 also, I spent a while trying to replicate it's standby consumptions on the sensation - I've now uninstalled all the battery monitors as they were useless on this phone.
I am using CurrentWidget and i get drain like 10 mA in sleep.
Also mine active use time of Sensation XE (stock accu) with insert coin 5.1.4 rom is more then 24 hours right now (after removing all unused by me services, and performing battery calibration + 8+1+1 charge cycle) + I always charge it for hour or two after it is showing 100%. So basically i unplug it @ morning ~ 6 AM, listen music for hour +, then all the day wifi + twitter + facebook + icq are active + some phonetalks, may be some photo\vid recording, reading e-mails and etc + hour of music on way back home, and after all that when i come home @ evening I usually have 60 - 50% left. No games are played, they are the only thing that can drain fast.
All i did - spent few days reading forums and internets about battery use, then selected all that made common sense and did it. Now I am very happy with mine phone performance. (also quattro gives mine device ~2800 score in benchmark). And active use time feels for me like 3x or even 4x of what I experienced on a stock system when I bought phone.

No the 3-6ma is from HD2 device,
WOW 36hrs thats too good what ROM version you are using Mine with Virtous no sense last only 16-20 hrs with 2-3hrs wifi, 3.5 hrs screen on time with lowest brightness.. I also maximize the cpu for battery eg. lower down the frequency to 800-1000, samplling rate, treshold etc,,,

What does dis mean? can you direct me to link to this.
I'm impress with your battery performance! - stock accu u mean kernel?

Check my sig, I'm using Darkforest 6.1.0. OC'd to 1.5 GHz on-demand, powersave on screen off. Auto-brightness. Right now I have 52% battery left after 17hrs moderate use today. Goes alright

I have updated to the official ICS (AT&T) and now I'm no longer getting much battery life. I had some issues with the update, so I wiped my phone and I have little to no apps.
I used to get 10+ hours of battery life, and now I don't even get 8 idle hours (so now it doesn't even last the work day). I checked Battery Usage after it was down to 20% and cell standby took up 90% of battery life.
I used to run JuiceDefender, but I reinstalled it on ICS.
Why have I lost so much battery life; how can I fix this?

I have noticed the same thing on the stock ICS. Also noticed very slow charge times using USB (possibly true with A/C charging but I am normally asleep when I charge with A/C).
Is this just caused by the bloat that they put in? I want to flash a custom ROM just for battery life at this point.

Im also seeing Cell Standby as a higher % than I used to.
install sky ics rom , this is the best battery . you can easy use more than 15hours . nexus mod 5.04 is also good . and much easier for noob to install . stock sucks .
Try Instigators Kernel. Does wonders for your SR battery....

Instigator's kernel is for AOSP (CM9/AOKP) so for ICS based official or roms you will need a different one such as mohan's kernel:

As for battery loss, there are some cases where if the flash wasnt done with 100% battery it could be reading the battery wrong and some people have had success with recalibrating their battery (look up battery calibration on play store). Now it was said that it really doesnt do anything for battery improvements and was just for stats use or whatever but for some people it helped their devices read the right battery stats.
Hi All,
I'm noticing that Cell Standby is taking up a large % of the battery on LiquidSmooth RC7 ROM. Is anybody else noticing this?
Is this due to the same issue with where the power_profile.xml file is set to use 34 mA instead of 3.4 mA?
Is there a proper zip file to fix this issue if so? I know there have been some in the past but not sure if they work for AOSP ROMs and more specifically for LiquidSmooth RC7 ROM.
Thanks.
a little off topic.. but how are you getting 16 hours without a charge and still at half battery %?
i have the processor governor on Powersave and i'm a heavy user of my phone on liquidsmooth RC7 and i barely get 10% of battery life an hour.

Your cell standby is not high... By the looks of it you were on wifi and didn't use your phone that much because you have 16 hours on without a charge and still have a lot of juice left... From what I understand cell standby goes up the less you use the phone...so it looks normal to me imo but I'm no expert

pschatz12 is right that I was barely using the phone besides talking to my wife when I was driving home. In regard to the processor governor, I never changed the settings after flashing so it's whatever the default is. However, I don't believe it is correct that cell standby would take up the most power without that cell standby power drain bug because I used to have this same issue on regular ICS stock ROM and it was fixed when I updated the power_profile.xml file that is located within the framework-res.apk file in /system/framework.
The problem is, you have to recompile the file or it won't work properly and could potentially soft brick the phone which has happened to me before.
As a result, I'm asking if anybody else on LiquidSmooth RC7 rom is noticing this Cell Standby power drain issue because I don't think it should be normal and is something that the developers should potentially look at fixing.
In terms of battery life I get on this ROM, I have let it sit without using it for 2 days and 2 hours (so 50+ hours) and when I looked at the phone it still had 26% battery left so it's pretty good. However, I just don't like seeing Cell Standby take up so much battery life and it just reminds me of the Cell Standby power drain issue mentioned in this post on the original ICS ROM:

I have a Nexus S with a jellybean stock ROM. Batterylife is currently very poor. I only can do like 5-6 hours on one charge. When you google on battery life Nexus S you see that many people have this problem as well.
I was wondering if I root the phone and install Cyanogenmod if battery life should be better. Any comments?
It depends on how do you use your phone and on your battery's state.
With cyanogen (CM stock kernel) I do 2-2.30 of screen usage, 30-60 minutes of calls, 30-40 minutes of navigation and minimum 30-40 whatsapp messages ( I have disabled all syncronization services except those fo Google)
Well, I have a ns4g and I would say it depends on your usage. I'm getting about 2.5 hours of screen time. If I disable sync & data and such it idles pretty well but I also have 3 accounts that I sync. JB is definitely worse than ICS, where I didn't really need to care that I own 3 chargers and 2 spare batteries.

How long have you used the phone? If its more than 1 year and a half (like me), I just did something that gave me a better battery life.
wait for it..
I bought a new battery. no kidding. I got 13 hours battery life with 2 hours of screen on time. All Stock, like you
Hi all. I purchased a nexus S recently, second hand. It had a 4.1.1 stock JB installed. The battery life was horrible, i hardly managed 5 hours with less than 2 hours of screen time. I changed the rom to CM 10.1.3 stable, although i do know that CM roms are battery hungry yet battery remained about the same as before. Thinking maybe the battery was faulty, i got a new one. It seems slightly better but still i am managing only 2 hours screen time with Cm10.1.3 and a matrix kernel. Plus, the charging is SUPER SLOW. Takes more than 4 hours to reach 100% charge. Is that normal? Kindly any suggestions would be appreciated.
maybe is battery problem ..change it
Battery problem is common issues in nexus S..I am hardly get 2 hr + screen on time..

Hi There
you can try to clean the -ve,+ve and the BSI terminals of the battery get them back to golden color and charge it to 100% then Calibre it.
