Hi. There's a few call recording apps in the market but IMHO none are that great, and most of them haven't been updated for 2.0 yet. With N1 hardware is it possible to build a better, solid app? I do a lot of interviews over the phone (am a researcher) so something like this would be golden.
isnt this illegal? oo, unless you tell them the conversation could be recorded.
I was using Air Voice on the HTC Hero, and as said, it is broken on Android 2.x.
I am so looking for this kind of app on the Nexus one.
Google Voice can do it, I think... See here. I just read through it, but I'm not exactly sure what the restrictions are. Basically you just press 4 during or before your conversation, but a note at the bottoms says:
"Note: at this time you can only record calls you receive on your Google Voice number. You can't record calls you initiate using our Click2Call from our website or the Return Call feature from your voicemail."
But it doesn't mention anything about if you place a call using your phone. I don't know if this helps you any, unless you make the interviewer call you first
Ultimate Voice Recorder v2.3.4 Will get 'er done.
Tasker also will do the trick. It's not in the Market yet [get it here] but it was one of the top three utilities in ADC2. It's like Locale on steroids. Takes a bit to get used to but it's amazing
Thanks for the input.
1) Google Voice only records on calls made to you GV number. I'm not really using GV yet (except for voicemail), and most of the calls I initiate.
2) Ultimate Voice Recorder -- not clear to me its been upgraded for Eclair. I've contacted the developed, but we'll see -- its reviews are middling.
3) Tasker. Wow, I've just downloaded it, and don't know about its recording capabilities, but everything else, damn, it could change a lot of the way I use my phone. Thanks for that rec!
The way tasker is worded it sounds like it only records your outgoing voice.
+1 on Ultimate Voice Recorder
I believe the problem is Android does not let you intercept the incoming audio during a call. I'd love to see a framework change for rooted phones that would allow this. After all there are plenty of countries that don't think its odd for you to be able to record your own conversations with someone.

If you have Verizon or AT&T, maybe you can ask the US Gov't for all your conversations. They record all of them and store them in a US data base and have been doing it since before 2000.
Tmobile was the only one who said ..."Warrant please".
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I still haven't forgotten.

I didn't realize that about T-Mobile. That racks up points in their favor for me too.
Hi!
I was wondering if there's any way to get 3G video calls on Android? I'm not talking about apps like Yahoo Messenger, GTalk, Skype, Fring etc..
Am talking about 3G video calls provided by the operator that would work with other phones that have video calling.
Only android2.3.4 support for video calls.

Android 2.3.4 supports video calls via GTalk, right? Am not talking about that. Am talking about video calls over 3G available on other phones.
You can implement video calls on Android 2.2 and above. Yahoo Messenger works on 2.2+.
But, am talking about operator calls.
Try Tango! Works great for me.

Tango again requires the other person to have Tango.
Am talking about regular 3G video calls that will work with other non-smart phones.
This is what I want to know too...I have free video call minutes here but these darn new devices dont seem to support them???

Most of the non-smart new phones support this though. It's weird that someone has not written an app for this yet.
They have written an app for that, but it is required for both parties to have the app...your statements contradict themselves. Easy answer for your question...no. You can not make a 3G video call, or a 4G or wi-fi for that matter without both parties using an app to host it.
There is a standard video call protocol for 3G used by many 3G phones. This is what am looking for. Perhaps, you are not aware of real 3G video calling.

yep.. i`ve been trying to find any app that could do the video call via native 3g without the data plan.. but none to my luck yet.. i`m using the SGS and it does have 3g native calling but cm7 n miui doesnt support it and i love miui but cant make any video call except when using gtalk etc.. so it is not very convenient as i have to make sure the other side to have the same software that i was using.. rightnow i could always video called my friend who is using symbian phone with my SGS but with if i was using cm7 or miui rom i cant do that.. its weird that no one actually write the app for this yet..
Sorry for unburying this thread, but do we have any news in this field? Still no 3g videocalling to non-smart phones? my girlfriend has a simple enough Samsung Blade (S5600v), and she is able to make video calls, but not me (weird)...
Can someone please tell me how to take 3g video calls with ffc of my samsung galaxy s 4g? I know that the sgs i9000 dialer has the video call button.. But I dont see a video call button on my 4g or is there a dialer.apk which has the video calling option? I am referring to the 3g video calls by the service provider.. Not wifi calling or qik or skype! please someone help me!
im pretty sure there is no video call button. the way you video chat is with the video chat applications.
What are the apps? Are u taking about video calls or chats? I mean the conventional video call through my sim card service provider.. Not three wifi calling or voip or skype! Thanks!
arent the video call and video chat features...the same thing?
Lol yah.. But I am asking about 3g or 4g video calls.. Like the samsung galaxy s i9000 .. Ok so as my i9000 has the video call button on the dialer can I copy the phone.apk to my galaxy s4g? Reply thanks!
To be more clear.. I need to know how to take video calls to my friends mobile number? Not to their tango, skype or any other app account.. I mean through our service provider... Mmm
There is no video calling on stock Rom but there is in the acid team Rom audiophile edition it's pretty good.

to answer this question. you can't directly call them just like you do a normal call or text. the video uses your data service. and honestly. i have found unless you have great 4g or wifi, the quality sucks and it lags. Program that comes stock with the phone is Quik. But there are others..
http://qik.com/
In qik can u call to phone numbers just like normal calls? So can u explain what's the video call button the i9000 galaxy dialer? yes my service provides very fast 4g speeds..

I am surprised that the video-call feature is not yet enabled on a 4g device!!! I realized it only now, but looking at the posts here, it looks like it is not popular at all,,, the video-call-over-cellular network, dedicated channels! In india, it surely is not so popular yet,,so no issues,,, please let me know if you come across a way to place video-calls-over-cellular dedicated channels - the same thing that you are talking about!

Oh goodness! That is the dialer im looking for!! Where and how do I get that to my 4g?! Please more info!
it was ansered earlier in your post the audiophile rom has phone to phone calling not sure how well or if at all it actually works and the landscape is messed up working on fixing that but since i have no one to call video to video i cant test it to see if in fact it actually works if it doesnt id like to know cause i have an idea of takeing the tango drivers etc and just incoperateing it into the dialer as that allows for direct to direct calling though there sevice
hey raver if you interested in help with tested stuff im down. right now im just runnin icbinb. but for help purposes i wouldnt mind trying out audiophile. i wanna check out the sound tweaks anyways.
I know that in america u people use wifi calls through apps the most.. That is why I think the 4g does not have that option.. But tell me if I can copy paste the dialer apk from the team acid rom and paste it in my system/ app? Thank u

Ok, so can this be done? If so, can anyone provide a step-by-step guide as to how it is done? It would be of great help to a starter like me.

Doesn't work though..
Does anyone have voice call recording apk ?
collaboration on finding the app
I'm slowly trying one by one.
Made a spreadsheet in Google Docs to document the effort.
Can't post link directly cause i'm a new user here.
After the root URL for google docs, it's:
/spreadsheet/ccc?
key=0AoXJEOIu0EvfdHNEdFNLUU5KR0lLemVzaUl3ckdTelE
Email me or reply with your email address to get write access to the document,
so we can collaborate on the search.
I guess a very generous developer could resolve the issues for us. Maybe create a script or a kernel.
Hi All
sorry for asking this. If there is a thread that can help, i appreciate for the reply. Is it possible to have the video call option at the Dialing option. Rather using external software like Qik.
this is dev section , and by using gingerclone you can but i really do not see the reason why you would use it as smartphones with front face cams have oovoo, skype, fring, qik useable so it not really nessary
Thanks for the info. its actually because I am in malaysia which most of us use direct 3G video call option rather than going to the other software ( register & use).
Oh ok no prob
