I have a Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket for AT&T. I have been rooted for a year now. I have installed a ton of roms over this time period.
However, now, everytime I try to install a ROM I always get the Status 7 Error message.
-I have wiped the phone 3-4 times before attempting to install a rom
-I updated CWM to 6.0.1.3 (latest version)
-I have installed a kernel first before attempting to install a ROM
-I have used a MacBook and a regular PC desktop to download the ROMs
I did everything above to try and see if the different ways work, but nothing did.
Now I can't use my phone since I can't install a ROM. Could someone please help?
Thank you in advance!

Here are my few suggestions:
Might try using odin to go back to stock. The sticky threads around here should be helpful for that.
Have you tried TWRP? Or sk8r's CWM touch? Some people have better luck with one recovery over others.

Why? Its a question, and its not specific to a certain ROM.

Also, why did this occur now and not before?
Take out the top couple lines involving the word assert and showing a model number
It happens due to ROM makers putting that in to protect from bricks there is normally a toggle in recoveries to ignore it
Edit: in the time its taken to make all those posts you could have Google searched and had it fixed in about 5 mins

Negative. I did a ton of thread digging, I know I can just revert back to original rom with ODIN, but I'd rather not do it. I am looking for the simplest answer so that I can create a thread about it for people who do not want to search for hours and complete those lucrative tasks.
Also, MOST answers are like yours; they tell people what to do, but if people don't understand the 'lingo', the answer is useless. People need/want specifics, and that is what I am trying to do in the thread I am going to create. People shouldn't have to dig in threads with over 100+ pages.
Thank you for your help though.

Get ez-recovery, makes flashing different recoveries super easy. After flashing rom and setting up, go back to recovery and flash the kernal. That's what I did on synergy and imo's kernal. Beans v5 flashes it all at once. So far both run great with very good battery life.

If you flash any CM10 based ROM's you will have to do some extra steps. IMO you should just start off with Touch Wiz based ROMS so all you need to do is flash from your SD once and reboot.

Can you install zip files on your phone using cwm without connecting to cpu? With a file manager of course. Sorry I'm new and always wondered that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
The only stupid question is one you ask without reading and researching in an effort to find the answer yourself first. Whether that applies here is something only you will know.
That being said, what you're talking about is called flashing, and is one of the most basic functions of CWM (or any recovery). You can do it, but only if the ZIP you're installing is flashable. If you try to install a non-flashable ZIP through CWM, you will cause serious mayhem and may brick your phone. Luckily, virtually all ZIPs have flashable/non-flashable specified by the author, so if you flash a non-flashable ZIP and brick yourself, it's pretty much 100% of the time your fault for not paying attention.
Flashing is detailed in vincom's excellent sticky posts, which are required reading for anyone who wants to mod their phone, and should be read through and fully understood before one even thinks about modding their phone. You can find them in his signature, or you can just look at the top of the various Skyrocket forums and find them there.
I've read vincoms post and no where did it say you could flash a zip without being on a pc. And I'm not completely new I flash roms all the time what I was just asking if I could download the zip file on my phone and flash it. Once in a while your going to miss a thread or two. And this is the q&a thread. You can ask anything you want. YOU Didn't have to reply. So the only stupid thing here is you buddy. Thanks though

Mods: we've resolved this amongst ourselves. It was a misunderstanding on both ends, and context was lost in translation.
I don't get the question.. I've never flash anything while connected to my PC except the first time when I used Odin. I flash stuff every day without being connected to a pc.. That's sort of the point of CWM. However, I would recommend Sk8's newest touch CWM instead of the official version.

I think the answer to your question, if I understand it right, is yes. As long as it is a flashable zip you can use cwm, twrp or even ROM manager. The only issue, for me anyways, is finding the file once it's downloaded. It should go to the downloads folder but sometimes mine goes to my external SD card. Just a challenge and I usually accept and win. Hope that's what you're after.

On average it takes about 15-20 mins give or take.well if you do it properly ie flash the correct version of fxz for your phone there are little chances to fail.but if that happens you can always retry.and hardbrick is very unlikely.

I just have to point this out to EVERYONE. This is one reason you do NOT EVER remove busybox. It was not the fact the the hijack was removed, but because busybox links itself to MANY critical "linux" functions, and it does not re-link those back to the motobox (minimal busybox like binary), or rename old bin files if they were there before, so there are things like mount and other functions that do not work properly.
I am not chastizing the OP here, just making a point to everyone about busybox, as this has been mentioned very little in the forums, so I thought this is a good place to point this out and the hazards with removing busybox, it will bootloop you nearly everytime.
It is better to just fxz back to full stock before/instead of removing busybox. Although I am still really not sure why anyone would want to remove busybox at all, it gives you a ton of linux utilities all in one binary and creates links to things like mount, etc.

I totally dis-agree. It does have bearing in here, because if someone does actually do a search for removing busybox on an atrix 2, this will come up. That was really the ONLY reason I put it here. And also the Brick thread is really for bricks, removing busybox is a whole other can of worms. And look I have respect that you have come up lately and taken an active role in here, but don't forget I have been trail blazing on this phone for over a year now, and have been trying to save people from themselves the whole time, so maybe re-read and think about why I did what I did in here. I am not aware of a CWM flashable back-to-stock zip. You need to use a computer and either Odin or Heimdall it back. Qkster said to look at his thread and I recommend following that advice. His Heimdall package works pretty well.

dman's uclb3 CWM flashable
I have never used it, but dman's uclb3 is CWM flashable. You might want to read the thread carefully as always.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22775901
When I asked recently about the confusing (to me) comments about video near the beginning of that thread, it was clarified that video depends on the kernel, and those comments do not apply if you have the latest GB kernels from Entropy or Zen ( which have no video problems)
Others are welcome to chime in if I have missed something important.
Man, I've been through about every post there is about the infuse on every site you can imagine. You know you're at the right place when every other site either quotes somebody from here or just straight up links you back to xda. If you can't find what you're looking for with a simple search on here then you shouldn't be doing what you're trying to do or you have a truly unique problem which is rare.
To get to the point, I don't think you can flash back to stock from cwm but if you succeed in doing so, please post your results and how you did it. If you're trying to fix a bad flash or getting the phone ready to sell or for any other reason, there is no replacing odin in my opinion. I know that flashing a ROM from cwm is super easy, but odin is just a hair less easy. Even if you have to borrow a computer, it should take no more than 10 minutes including download time. Thats my two cents. Take it or leave it. Best of luck to you.

Jelly bean ROMs use a different system partition that cwm can't change. If you flash the stock ROM you will get stuck at the Samsung screen.
If you are in jelly bean you need to Odin or heimdall back to stock.

No worries, I wasn’t taking offense to your comments. I was fishing for information about possible limitations of dman's uclb3 CWM flashable GB package (That info did come later in csandman1977’s post where he identified that package won’t work when coming from Jelly Bean.). Please don't hesitate to share your experience and thoughts here.

I think you’re talking about dman's uclb3 CWM flashable.
As identified by csandman above, it won’t work coming from Jelly Bean. I’m not sure about ICS.
I’m pretty sure it would work fine coming from any Froyo or GB Rom.
I've been rooting phones, flashing roms, and even flashing others phones to different carriers for, 5-6 years now I'd say. So, I know what I'm doing. I recently started using Goo Manager to download things occasionally, and to say the least I'm screwed. Downloaded the latest twrp recovery and it automatically booted into recovery and flashed the image. Endpoint...hard bricked.
Just be careful with goo is all I'm saying. I never confirmed it to flash the download and it didn't even ask. As soon as it was done dl'ing it just did it. I knew instantly it was going to be problematic. Because it wasn't actually the twrp img for my skyrocket. I was downloading it to use on another phone and transfer to my computer. So, now I'm without a phone. Sucks..
Anyone know of a way to get into download mode without having to use Jtag? lol prolllly not

I am not sure why someone that has been doing this for years would put anything on the phones memory that doesn't go with the phone for any reason. It seems like half, if not more, of the bricks that happen are because of the wrong thing trying to be installed on the phone. Knowing that, it seems like a good idea to NEVER put anything on the phone that doesn't go with the phone, if you plan on using it or not. I guess this is just another precautionary tale for others now because if you really are hard bricked then Jtag is your option. Assuming you have already tried download mode, Odin, etc...Anyone doing this as long as you would have already known to try that stuff first...right? Good luck.
I got into a similar problem with goo manager. Ended with hard brick. Will never use goo or rom manager. Odin and twrp or cmw are the way to go. And never, ever flash anything unless you know it's for your device. That was the problem with goo, it said it was but wasn't.

I've got 5 devices successfully running Goomanager / TWRP, and none of them have had a single issue. I just make sure that what I am getting for each device is FOR each individual device.

You know you can force a reboot of the phone during the download by holding the power key or pulling the battery, right? If you knew what the file was, why didn't you do that?
I've downloaded ROM files hundreds of times through GooManager and gapps files at least a few dozen on three different phones across two platforms (Rocket and Note II). I've also flashed recoveries through it more times than I can remember. It's never once caused a problem, downloaded the wrong file, or even soft-bricked me.
I thought you couldn't brick a phone by a botched recovery flash. Because it's only writing to the recovery partition and not the system. Just what I once read anyway.

I didn't know it was the wrong file until after it installed. It was supposed to be a gapps package that went with the Rom. I't didn't look right and I should have known better but I went with goo.
Just reinforces you should always know that what ever you flash make sure it's for your specific device.

I'm no noob. I was downloading the fIle. Not flashing it. It flashed on it's own INSTANTLY after it finished downloading. Without asking. It never did that the dozens of times I downloaded stuff before. So, there.

And yeah, I've learned to do things the old fashioned way. That's what. Based on the type of responses here, I see why some others have bad impressions of XDA members. Think whatever you want. Just sharing because it sucks. Guarantee you I know more than most of you who replied. Unless your a developer, lol.

I only used goo manager to flash touch recovery on and I have had no problem with it..werid..
I did copy a recovery on my old SG Europa and it was the wrong one and bricked it,lucky I was able to get a replacement. You learn from your mistakes.
I have been there..
