[Q] ICS Rooted but Not Rooted? - Motorola Atrix 2

Installed the new ICS leak the other day. Works great but some apps that require root access aren't letting me use them...like titanium backup and rootdim and battery calibration. I am rooted because root explorer let's me edit build.prop, but something is going on.
Any ideas?

Try re running root.bat(windows) or root.sh(think that's it for *nix). I had thought I was rooted but had to run it again.

Thanks, I will try that tonight.

Disabled superuser and installed supersu..that worked for me
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app

I had the same problem. Used OTA root protector in superuser and after official OTA super was there but did not work properly. I rerooted using the A2 root bat and now superuser is working properly. The only thing not working is that it crashes when you try to do a backup of the permissions, but that is not a big deal for me.

Superuser 2.2.2 doesn't appear to work on DINC

I saw the "extras" in ROM manager and tried the updated Superuser. It showed up in my apps but none of my root apps worked. I had to revert to a backup to get root back. Anyone else tried?

i think the type of superuser depends on the rom your using, and an updated superuser might not work with the one you have. i tried cooking a rom with the "ninja" superuser and it wouldn't work but when i tried the "#" superuser it worked. if your using a custom rom then i would ask the dev if it would support updated superuser apks.
hope this helps...at least a little.
2.2.2 Superuser.apk does not work for me either.
Works ok for me.

It does not work with stock rom but does work with pmf Rom.

ICS leak lost root for autostarts

I'm running the ICS leak, and just installed autostarts. It says it failed to change app status, likely because I did not have root access. Now obviously I have root access, being on the ICS leak already. And root still seems to work for root browser, ROM manager's clock calibration tool, and everything else except autostarts (and also Rom manager's autostart tool.)
Now I know that there are hundreds of threads involving this on google and on XDA, but I haven't found one pertaining specifically to the A2 and ICS leak. I'm working on figuring it out myself but I wanted to know if anyone knew about a known issue involving specifically A2 on ICS leak. Doing a restore now to see if autostarts will work with a clean ICS install.
EDIT: Hm... seems autostarts has problems with ICS to begin with. I didn't know that, as my brother's samsung something or other on ICS works just fine. And they say ICS ready right there on the app store page lol...
ICS leak doesn't require root. You may need to re-root using this method:

Yes I suppose I said that wrong. ICS doesn't require root, but I am rooted. I will try re-rooting, but as I said, root works for several other root-requiring apps.

Did you root before or after flashing the leak? Did you clear your caches and wipe data? If not, I would suggest wiping data and clearing cache and dalvik and flashing again. Also, if I helped you in any way, don't forget about that nifty little thanks button...
i was having problems with apps telling me i was unrooted on the ics leak even though i had rooted and some root operations worked.
i installed supersu from the play store and used that to grant permissions to apps instead of the superuser app and that made everything work perfectly.
i have frozen superuser because i like supersu better.

If you froze, or removed any apps that are not normally removable if not rooted, the install will fail. Safestrap has been known to cause OTA failures in the past. Dont know if that is still an issue or not.

OK nothing frozen or removed. But I do have safe strap is there anything I can do with it to make the its work. Like uninstall it?
open the app, choose uninstall recovery.
open settings/apps/manage and uninstall the app
check both internal and external SD cards for any Safestrap folders and delete them.

Thanks worked like a charm. Update completed root restored using ota root keeper entitlement check completed. Jellybean smooth as butter.
I've never used safe strap and I tried using OTA rootkeeper to temporarily unroot and it still won't update...

did you update/remove any of the verizon supplied apps? If you froze them with TB, then just unfreeze them. If you have deleted any of them, then you will have to find the root thread here and startover installing ICS, and move forward with the updates from there.

Something up with the stock SU on this build.
Some people are saying that they simply updated the SU binary and fixed it.
I downloaded SuperSU from the Play Store. Installed it. Opened it. Let it update. Then disabled the stock SU.
Worked like a charm

I've had this issue also, but changing the app I use didn't help...going to redo everything tomorrow but instead of going from entropy's build to 4.2...going to take the extra step of going to 4.1 first...only thing I haven't tried and from what I saw in another thread it worked, so hopefully that's all it is...will post when I try it but figured I'd pass on what I saw in another thread here
After going to the 4.1build first, I haven't had a single issue...

Setting -> Apps (under Device) or... From your home screen hit Menu button -> Manage Apps.
Then swipe over until you see All at the top of the screen.
From there, when you click any App, you can disable, uninstall (not stock apps, typically), clear App Cache, etc. You'll see
I usually kill things like browser (I use Chrome and FF), stock gallery(I flash Photosphere), and some wallpaper choices and things I don't use.

You can delete everything and flash a stock rom before returning it. Which model of phone are you using?
