Mount Windows Share - G Tablet General

I finally got 4.1 running. Is CIFS still the only way to mount Windows share?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636181
Thanks

There's also Mount Manager, but I personally prefer cifsmanager
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Followed instructions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1397461
But I am getting segmentation fault when trying to mount. Is there a set of different modules for this version of kernel?
Thanks

Report back: Mount Manager works. The modules are not needed as it's built into kernel

Mount Manager mounting read only

Running Vegan and have installed mount manager but it seems to only mount cifs read only. The share is on a windows 7 box and is set to full control. I have tried connecting as guest and with a username and password as well as setting rw but it only ever mounts read only.
Any body got any ideas?

Yes. Vegan 5.1.
It mounts fine. Just read only.

I think you misunderstood thebadfrog's question.
Try flashing clemsyn's kernel for the VEGAn via recovery mode.

I have now tried it and it is exactly the same. Read only. Might be an issue with mount manager. Is anybody else using it?

Same problem with cifs manager. The same settings on my Desire gives it read/write access but it does other work with my tab.
I have the same issue and it's driving me nuts! its a great app, just what I need, but without the write permissions it's of little use.
There is a rw option, but I cant get it to do anything. Using Vegan 5.1 with clemsyn kernel. Any one else seeing this or have any clues...?
has someone been able to solve this issue? i'm facing the same problem on another device too..

[Q] Cisco AnyConnect for Rooted Devices

Has anyone got the Cisco Any Connect for Rooted Devices App to work on the TF??? I keep getting the "This device does not meet minimum requirements to run this software (TunTap driver could not be located)" error. Anyone find a workaround?
I'd root my TF in a sec if it will work. I've been trying to get this to work on my D2G but it also doesn't have a TunTap driver. I found tun.ko in one of the forums but have to had the chance to see how one might install it. I know some custom ROMs have it included.
works fine rooted prime + clemsyn 16
It seems that it is not able to load the tun.ko if it is present as a module. I had to use insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko to make it work. I have a stock kernel with just added tun.ko module.
Woah, didn't know this came out...thanks. Will give it a shot.
Edit: Appears to work fine, but I need get get my ASA license.
Awesome! Finally!
The app installs fine but when you try to connect is when you get that error. @ljs_cz, does the stock 3.1 come with the tun.ko module? If not where can I find one? I found a post with a module but its for 3.0.
Totally wasn't aware this existed. Works flawlessly on my TF running prime and clemsyn. This combined with RemoteRDP means I don't need to carry round my laptop when I'm on call!
Thank you OP, life-changer.
For those who are on stock 3.1 root, copy tun.ko to /system/lib/modules and
install it from a terminal, command "insmod tun.ko".
Check with command lsmod, you should see tun.ko loaded.
Install cisco anyconnect for rooted device and you are set.
Note, you will need to load tun.ko again after a reboot.

Thanks ill give that a try!!!
Ok its works great but when i restart the device the module isn't installed anymore and i have to insmod again. Any way to keep is installed after device boots???

i tried copying the tun.ko to /system/lib/modules but i got Permission Denied.
Is there another way to make this work?
I am rooted with build model 8.4.4.11
You need to mount the /system as RW before you can copy it. I am not sure of the ADB command, but you can do it through total commander (file manager) which is how I did it.
is it possible that you could give me a step by step guide as to how to accomplish this? i am trying but seem to be failing.
Bump, I could also use some help with ssretz's problem.
hmm..on ICS, tried your solution anyway. copied the file over to the location you specified, but when i run the command in the terminal it says no such file or directory.
Edit...i ran su -c insmod /system/xxx/xxx/tun.ko
i ran su earlier, but not on the same line.
that seems to register it. will test later.
still failing to copy files
Hi,
im running the TF PRIME 2 with ICS 4
im trying all of the suggested aboe and still failing to copy a file to the system/library/modules folder
any help?

I've done it via command line (you must mount the system directory in RW mode) using multiple iteration of the proper switches until it finally worked, but if you're struggling, just spend a couple bucks to buy Root Explorer. The aggravation you'll save will be well worth it.
Root Explorer has a button that will eliminate the command line instructions necessary to mount the system directory in RW mode and return it to R only, along with allowing you a simple copy/paste interface to move the files.
connects but does not route over tunnel with CM9/Megatron 1.0.1
Current system with issue: Megatron 1.0.1 with stock kernel.
Details:
I am able to connect using Rooted anyconnect, and I see my route table getting updated but when I try to access a resource on the vpn network it can not reach. I am not able to ping, ssh, rdc to any resource thru the tunnel. Local lan resources such as my own computer work fine or internet resources
I see the following interfaces get created after I connect:
-csctun0
-droptun0
My route table displays updated routes after vpn connects showing to use the iface of the cscotun0 for the resources that need to be routed thru. (192.*, 10.*, etc)
Funny thing is that I am able to use the stock 4.0 ICS and/or older honeycomb releases and it works fine. It's just with Megatron 1.0.1 or any CM9 rom. I tried using update-cm-9-20120329-NIGHTLY-tf101-signed.zip, still a nogo. Leads me to believe could be related to the CM9 trunk.
The logs between stock and CM9 flavored roms look the same on anyconnect. Nothing glaring.
lsmod doesn't show the tun module in as I believe now tun is compiled directly in the kernel (can someone confirm this?) (Running lsmod with stock doesn't show tun, nor in CM9/Megatron).
I love me some cyanogen and really like ricardopvz work especially the quick apps, but I need my vpn working for production support as its nice to work off the tablet when I am not near a computer.
Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Confirmed that my problem only exists with CM9/Megatron roms
AOKP and stock based roms work fine. Any one else have this issue?

I've compiled it using Infused 2.0.0 kernel and it is Gingerbread. So it might not work with other ROMs.
Generally you do not need to install the modules. Just place them anywhere on sdcard and load them via insmod (root required). Please see CifsManager application description for more details.
How to install?
So, with this CIFS support, I can play my video files (AVI/DivX/RMVB...)
on local NAS via Wifi? (Just like use BuzzPlayer in iPhone)
Great!
The question is... how to install it? any document about install?

Read [email protected]'s instructions, or use SGS Kernel Flasher to flash my 8-13 Daily Driver kernel (Note: For instructions on THAT, read the SGS Kernel Flasher docs. CWM can flash the zip too.)
modprobe the cifs module (Module autoloading MIGHT work in the daily driver kernel so this might not be needed, I haven't tested this much)
Install the CifsManager app from the market.
I attempted to install this via CWM and it installed so fast I wasn't sure if it worked or not. So I rebooted and installed CIFS Manager and ran it. I setup a test share on my laptop on the same network subnet and shared it out to everyone. I created a new share in CIFS Manager and then attempted to browse to the share and I get an error.
Mount Point: /mnt/cifs/download
Username: my username
Password: my password
Options: blank
I get an error stating:
Mounting the share has failed with an error.
{mount: No such device or address}
{mount: mounting the share failed the host is down}
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I copied the cifs.ko and slow-work.ko to /system/modules and changed the mod path in CIFS manager. I also checked/changed permissions on those two files as well. Am I missing something???
NooB apologies extended to OP.
Since they're small files, it would flash fast.
Using ADB or Android Terminal Emulator, run lsmod - do you see cifs.ko in the list?

Hmm, it probably isn't loaded then. So you may need to run the following in a terminal:
Code:
insmod /wherever/you/put/cifs.ko

Cifs Mount Issues

I apologize if this has been posted, but I've done many searches and haven't seemed to make any progress.
I'm struggling to mount my file share from within the local network. Ultimately I want them available through VPN, but I figure local access needs to come first. Here is the command I'm running through terminal
Code:
busybox mount //xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/<share> /mnt/sdcard/cifs -t cifs -o user=<user>,pass=<password>
The cifs.ko module has been loaded, so I don't figure that to be the issue. I've also rearranged the mount command in several configurations and still get the same error.
Code:
mount: mounting //xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/<share> on /mnt/sdcard/cifs failed: Invalid argument
I'm trying to mount a shared folder on OS X 10.7 using the full file path (/Users/.../...). I know the share works as I can access it on other machines, just not the phone.
Any help is appreciated.
Have you checked out CifsManager in the Play Store? Looks like it might do what you're trying to accomplish.
If you're not against accessing your files through a file manager, I personally like ES File Explorer. It has SMB access, among many other options.
I have tried both of those with no luck. Once I get the command right, I would fill out the CifsManager's parameters appropriately.

Directory Binding can be done in Jelly bean 4.2

Directory binding through remount no longer works sincd Jelly bean 4.2.1 which added multiuser feature.
However, with help of stickmount (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=en),
the directory binding becomes possible again. The key point, I believe, is stickmount mount an OTG USB storage as
a subdir under internal sdcard. The procedure is as follows:
Precondition: your device is rooted, has stickmount and termianl emulator installed
Assumption: app XXX uses data file in /sdcard/XXX and you want to move its data to USB storage
step 1: Plugin an OTG USB, stickmount will run and mount it as /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1, check this sub dir with any file
explorer.
step 2: Create a directory XXX under /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1 and copy to it all files and subdir in /sdcard/XXX
step 3: Make /sdcard/XXX empty (Delete all its files and subdirs)
step 4: run terminal emulator in su mode, issue command
mount -o bind /data/media/0/usbStorage/sda1/XXX /data/media/0/XXX
step 5: Run file manager to check directory /sdcard/XXX is binded successfully.
Run your application XXX
My device is ASUS TF101 in EOS4' jellean bean 4.2.1. with a dock. My OTG usb is inserted to the dock.
With stickMount, we can make directory link to folders on OTG card in JB4.2.2. But how about links to folders on external sdcard (extSdCard). In the latter case, FolderMount may come to the rescue. My know FolderMount in a zigzag way. At the begiging, FM did not work on my ASUS TF101 in JB4.2.2 (EOS4). It allowed me to define and activate a directory link, and the link was visible in my file explorer but the files and folders inside could not be accessed unless I turned on the "Root" setting of the explorer. And in the notification area, I saw error message :
Error.extSdCard permission
Problem fixing external sdcard ownership/permission
When FM 2.09 comes out, I tried many times and finally found what was the problem. I had a mount point 'Removable/MicroSD' binding to /dev/block/mmcblk1p1, which was established at boot through Tasker. After removed this bind, FM starts to work fine. The lesson I learned is:
Do not use different user tools to make directory binds to the same extSdCard, or there might be conflict in changing ownership/permission. I am not saying FM is perfect, it is still in development, and it is not the only fish in the sea. What I am trying to say is the time comes to make directory bind in JB4.2.2 with help from stickMount, FolderMount and other good tools.
Notes:
1. App "Directory Bind" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262) still does not work
even with help of stickmount. I have an App which uses data in /sdcard/HJNCE. While a directory Bind can
be established successfully with the above said scheme, "Directory Bind" app refused to save such a link(
source path=/data/media/0/usbStorage/sda1/HJNCE/ and target path= /data/media/0/HJNCE/), saying
"Enter valid target directory". After the target path was changed to /sdcard/HJNCE, the link was saved
and started in the app, but there was actually no bind between the two directories.
2. The "mount -o bind..." command may be put in a Tasker's task excuting at device boot.
Good start.

My experience with FolderMount is not so good:
It never work on my ASUS TF101 in JB4.2.2 (EOS4). I tried two versions (v1.7.2 and v2.0.5) without a success. I tried to make a link with source= /storage/emulated/0/testd and destination=/storage/sdcard1/tested, FolderMount allow me to define and activate the link, and the link is visible in my file explorer but the files and folders inside cannot be accessed unless I turn on the "Root" setting in the explorer. And in the notification area, I see the following message from FolderMount:
Error.extSdCard permission
